The Well Worn Path
.
The grass has been worn away, and the golden earth is smooth from thousands of souls who have passed this way. It is not visible to the human eye and shrouded in mist.
The path leads to a bridge that is held by a wonderful rainbow. So many pets and other creatures have gone over that bridge. There they find peace and happiness.
I have lost many beloved friends who have crossed over, and I know that they are young and happy. She is no longer in pain. Their youth is eternal and their energy boundless. Whether they were hunter or prey, friend or foe, here they live as one. No longer do they suffer from age, illness, maltreatment or neglect. Here God walks among them and gives them love forever.
I can see in my mind’s eye my own friends as there were, fleet of paw. Their tails held high and their eyes bright with the vigor of youth.
They passed away in my arms. The same ones that I held as babies. I watched them grow into the best companions you could ask for. Never wanting more than your love, a pat, a belly rubbed, or a good time well spent at play. I feel them around me and they will not be forgotten during my life or our children’s life. And now was their lives comes to an end. I have been there to ease the passing, With tears, I comforted them as they took their last breathe. Their paws are set on that path that is well worn and leads them to a place of eternal peace. I will always have my precious memories and those I would not sell for any price. They were my confidant in times of doubt, defender in times of trouble, my adoring public for secret performances and most of a my warmth on long cold nights. They never chided me for being late or forgetting a treat. Their tails wagged happily no matter what. I will always miss them as I open the door every night. No longer greeted by a faithful companion, yet their memory will be there.
This there I will find you when it is my time to go. For I know you wait for me, and together we will be as it was when you were here.
