Title.
Seeking out the Light

Prologue.

Every minute, every hour, that we lived in our past has formed a path that we follow to create our future. Every step we take forward leaves footprints of memories behind us. Some are not as bright as others, and some are just as dark as night itself.

My past and my future were laid out for me even before i was able to take my first step.
I was born into a world where everything i was to do in my life was maped out only for me to follow, my first kiss, my first fall, my first and my last everything was all written and i had no choice but to follow.

I was a prisoner in my own life, until i decided that i wasnt going to play by the rules of the book my life was meant to follow.

Chapter one,

The air felt dry and the sun shone down in a burning heat. i hadnt been out here for more than a minute and i already felt myself start to perspire. Eww, gross! i hated the heat, i longed for winter to return. It was the end of December and the season of Summer was just starting to get into the swing of things. Only another few months then it would be back to the cold. just the way i liked it.

i looked around, the grass was turning slightly brown due to lack of watering, the sky was bright and clear. not a cloud in the sky. the only think i liked bout summer was the clear night skies. You would be able to see the stars so clear and bright, it felt like u were lying among them.

Suddenly i felt a slight twinge in the back of my head. My heart started to beat louder and my hands started to tingle. i looked around the small yard scanning the trees looking along the walls searching, searching for the eyes.

The eyes were always there. Always watching, watching, waiting, waiting but always alert. The eyes that follow me everywhere were always alert and cautious, expecting and warey.

Damn, they had found me quicker than i anticpated.I hate how they follow me, never a moment of peace, every move i make the eyes always follow. quickly i move over to the old gum tree that sits in the middle of the yard, its branches, just low enough to grab hold of and climb up to but also stretch long and high creating shadows along the ground that intertwine. i jump up and grab hold of the lowest brunch and pull my self up with ease. i climb high and deep into the trees branches finally settling myself in my favourite spot. closing my eyes i feel some relief of being out of the scorching hot sun, and out of the eyes of those who watch me.

You might think im being paranoid here, thinking that i'm always being watched. Eyes all around me all the time, but its the sad old truth and has been ever since i was, well since i left my mothers womb till now and will be till the day i leave this world.

Being someone of great importance sucks. Ever since i was a young girl i was told how important i was and that my life was the most precious thing that would one day help our people live in freedom.

My Name is Nura and well you see im a half bread, the very first half bread, something like me has never successfully happened before. Im half vampire and half human. my heart beats, i can walk in day, i heal myself quickly but most importantly i feel. i have emotions, i can bond with humans on a level that normal full blood vampires cannot.

This is why i am so important, im the start of a new bread of vampire. One that is supposedly unbeatable, i have the power of the generations of vampires before myself but with the strength of resisting the powerful urge to feed. It normally takes of years of persistance and restraint before a vampire can walk and be within a crowd of humans without the burning desire to feed apon them.

Im surrounded by humans but there is nothing that draws me to them, i have no desire to feed apon them. the thirst just isnt there.

"Nura, are you up there?"

Opening my eyes i let out a deep sigh and looked down from the tree. Ravyn one of my protectors and only friend was calling.

"You know i am, so why must you ask?" i replied with an annoyed tone

"Just trying to put some normalcy into your life" she smiled and started her climb up the tree.

Looking down at her i felt my lips tug at a smile, Ravyn might be one of the supernatural but she was a horrible with nature. She's what some people might call a prissy kind of girl. She wears all the latest fasion, heals are a must and her face is always caked on with some kind of makeup. But she's always there for me and i know i can always rely on her to have my back.

I watched her struggle as she heaved herself up onto each branch. Ravyn wasnt a vampire, but she wasnt human either, she was an entirely different breed of the supernatural together. She was a Were.

"Seriously Nura, why on do you always have to sit so high up?" Ravyn complained as she finally set herself down on the branch across from mine.

"I can see past the wall into the valley," i said staring out into the distance "beyond what i am allowed to actually step onto" i spat out in annoyance.

Ravyn frowed and lightly touched my hand.
"You know why your not allowed out there sweety, its too dangerous, there are people out there that would do anything to destroy you if they found out you were even alive."

"I know i know, im too important to be taken away, im the future of our kind, im everything to our species" sighing i turned my gaze back out past the wall "Its just, how am i supposed to live a normal life if i cant even step outside these walls i've been in since i was 3. I mean come on im 19 now, its been 16 years. i think i deserve a bit of trust and feedom."

"But your not normal Nura, your going to have to start realising that and you do have trust, we all trust you with our lives"

"So i get trust, but im not allowed to have even the tiniest bit of freedom to actually have a life? i mean i need something, i need some spice, some action, other people that i can look at instead these people i see every single day!"

"I know how you feel Nura, its hard, i get that, but you are just so important to everyone. No one wants to risk it."

"I hate my life Ravyn. i need to get out or im going to go insane."

"Your already insane Nura, how can u be tired of this face" Rayvn said with a pout.

"Your an idiot, your face is the only one i can bare to look at" i said giving Rayvn a little kick.

"Come on lets go, it'll be dark soon, every one will be waking"

"Oh joy" standing up on the branch i looked down below.

"Dont do it Nura, just climb down like a normal person"

"You said it yourself, Im not normal." And with that i stepped off the branch and fell into nothingness.

For a second i felt as light as a feather and nothing in the world could touch me. Then i felt the ground underneath my feet and my whole body shook back to life and reacted so naturally that i landed with ease.

"Grr i hate how you do that, it scares me half to death you know!" Ravyn called out climbing down the tree.

"It takes 1/5th of the time and its the only fun i get to have around here"

"If you want fun come to the Dance tomorrow night, everyone will be there, including that yummy boy Jetly."

"I think i would rather not, thanks."

"It'll be fuuuuun" Ravyn singed as she walked past me and up the stairs. "Your always saying how you want to have more fun"

"Yeah, but outside of these walls" i mumbled and followed her inside.
