A Fallen Solider

A tear slid down my face dripping off the tip of my nose, staining the paper. I knew what this meant, I knew how the story went. I'd written it a thousand times before. I'd read it even more.
A poor boy so far from home, caught in the line of fire. After months across the sea, he finally gets to come back to the sleepy little town he was born and raised. Where a mothers' tears fall freely, and a father silently tries to stay strong. A brother and a sister, too young to know what went wrong. A young bride clinging to a folded up flag. Clinging to all the memories before they fade away. The church choir singing a song that echoes through the crowded pews of everyone he ever loved.
As a final goodbye is said and one last tear is shed.
