It was early autumn morning when detective’s telephone rang.
“Hello, am I talking to detective Tom?” said the man.
“Yes, who am I talking to?” Tom asked.
“I want to become your client. I want you to gather information about one person,” man said.
“Ok, who is she? Your wife, daughter or love of your whole life? Because I need to know who I will be dealing with,” said detective.
“Let’s just say… I am her secret admirer,” said the man.
Detective wrote note in his notebook: “New client is spy .”
“So, how can I call you, sir,” detective asked.
“You can call me Adam,” said the man.
“Well, Adam, before I start my investigation you must make a prepay. It’s a guarantee that you won’t disappear with information I gathered for you without paying,” said Tom.
“Money is already on your account! I read the rules on your website. You can check your account if you don’t believe me,” Adam said.
Detective quickly checked account. Adam told truth and money was there.

“I need to know at least her name and surname and current location to start investigation. It would be great if you could come to my office and we could discuss this together,” said detective.

“I’m very busy man. I can’t come to your office that’s the reason I’m hiring you. I want you to observe her for two weeks and gather as much information about her as you possibly can,” Adam said.
“Very well,” said Tom.

“She is Rita Young. She lives in Riga. She’s student, but I don’t know what she is studying or where. I want you to find out more about her. I need to know everything about her interests, friends, family, studies, hobbies, social network accounts and all other information you can get about her,” Adam said.
“Adam, I’ll try to do my best and gather all available information about her,” said detective.

“Thank you! I’ll call you after two weeks. Goodbye!” said Adam.

“Goodbye!”

Detective decided to go to police office, to find out if there are criminal records on Rita. He also wanted to find out her home address.
Detective had to wait for two hours before he could talk to one of police officers. Because it was Monday. Monday usually is very busy day at the police office.
After long chat with police officer he got the information he wanted. There were no criminal records on Rita. He found out that Rita’s last known home address is in the centre of Riga.
He went there to check it out.
He saw old time building with small flats in it. Such type of flats usually had two rooms in them. Flat where Rita was registered was on the second floor of the house. There were garages under windows.
“Nice observing spot,” detective thought.
That evening he climbed on one of garages, took out his camera and started to wait.
He waited for five hours, but Rita didn’t show up.
“I guess, you won’t be spending this night at home,” Tom thought.
He climbed off the garage and went home.
He searched the web for social network accounts. He found one on very popular social network.
Luckily, he also had an account there. He logged in, typed her name and surname in the search bar.
He found her comment on her friend’s picture. He clicked on her avatar, but all he could see was announcement that said: “Sorry, this profile has been deactivated and is no longer available!”
He decided to make a file on her with dates of observations, so it would be easy for him to work.
On the next evening he came to my house and climbed on garage’s roof. I had no idea that someone’s watching over me.
It was seven o’clock and I came home. That evening I forgot to close curtains in my kitchen, so he saw what I was doing. I should have been more careful.
He took pictures of me cooking dinner. He also took pictures of me eating.
When I left kitchen Tom could no longer see what I was doing in my flat, so he waited few hours and then went home.
“It’s 9.11. observation day 3, 6:30 in the morning. Today I’m waiting for Rita to go to her study place, so I can found out more about her,” detective wrote down in his notebook.
It was seven o’clock in the morning and I was in a hurry to get to Latvian academy of art in time. I didn’t notice that someone was following me all the way to academy.
„Rita wants to become a designer. She is studying at Latvian academy of art. Her studies begin at nine in the morning and end at four o’clock in the afternoon. This is her second year in this education program,” detective wrote in his notebook.
Tom went inside of academy and told principal that he’s Rita’s relative and he wants to find out how she is doing.
„Well, Rita is nice person, she is great at drawing, but when it comes to history she can’t remember all the important facts, but no one is perfect,” principal said.
„Of course,” said Tom.
„So, what other subjects besides history she is studying?” Tom asked.
„She is studying composition, fashion illustration, sewing technology,” principal said.
“That’s very interesting. And are there any fashion events or shows she can participate in?”
“Yes, every year there is a list of events students can get into. But there’s, usually, a battle for the best collection amongst students. She can get into fashion events only if her lecturers will allow her. The most popular event that all students want to get in is called “HABITUS BALTIJA”. It is new fashion artist’s competition,” principal said.
After questioning principal Tom returned to his office and after five he came to my house.
That day I closed all the curtains in all rooms and kitchen because neighbour said that thieves stole stuff from others. I didn’t want thieves to see what is inside of my flat.
„I can’t see a thing,” Tom thought, after looking at the windows.
So, no more observations for that day.
10.11. Usual day at academy. Rita has entered the dress she made into competiton, but she didn’t get even to third place. I guess, her lecturers just don’t understand modern art. Lecturer gave place to other student’s dress that looks like nun’s dress. Rita’s dress looked like dress from one of those extraterrestrial movies. And extraterrestrial horns went so well with that dress,” detective wrote his observations.
11.11. Today after lectures Rita and her friends went to protest against governments plan to cut funds for education. They were victorious because government members promised not to touch the funds. Later they went to club to celebrate their victory.
This club is one of most popular clubs among students and is close to academy.
12.11. Today Rita went to theatre with her friends. Apparently, she likes comedy. After that she went home and watched movies all evening.
13.11. Today she went into the forest with one of her friends. They started to collect plastic bottles that were thrown out in there. It turns out that they have to make dress from recyclable materials and there’s competition called “Green”. It means that they have to make dresses from recyclable materials.
They decided to make dress together. They were talking that it is hard for one person to make such dress.
I guess, this is way to save nature and do homework assignment. They gathered full 100 liter bag of plastic bottles.
14.11. Today Rita was improvising at her history lecture. I even took pictures. She looked like an actress…All those fake emotions. That’s weirdest way I have seen someone trying to hide the fact of not being prepared for lecture.
15.11. Today she was in such a hurry that she forgot her scarf on bench near academy. I took scarf with me. They have to make that dress from plastic bottles for tomorrow, so she went to get something to hold that dress together. After shopping in one of those hobby shops Rita invited her friends over and they started to make dress, but hey closed curtains, so I couldn’t see what they were doing.
16.11. Today was the day Rita and her friends brought plastic dress to academy. That look on other student’s faces was priceless. They got second place in competition for “green” dresses. Their prize was huge box of candy and bottle of wine. After lectures Rita and her friends went to her home to celebrate.
17.11. Today Rita brought a baby to lectures. “It’s not hers, but I will find out who’s is it,” Tom thought.
After lectures Rita went to park. A man sat next to her on bench.
“Hello, Roland!” said Rita.
“Hello, thanks for watching baby for me,” he said.
Rita gave baby to man.
“You know that I’m always ready to take care of my little niece,” Rita said.
“That’s shocking, but if she doesn’t have brothers or sister’s than how could she have a niece?” Tom thought.
“How is Kristina doing?” Rita asked.
“Not so well. If there won’t be any improvements, than she will never come out of coma,” man said.
Rita started to cry.
“Rita, please stop crying! If we will believe, than she will get better. But if will start to think about the worst possible, than she won’t get up and ever will hold baby in her arms,” man tried to cheer her up.
“Do you remember that car crash? We thought she wouldn’t make it, but she did! Even doctors said that was a miracle because she recovered in only two months. That happened because we believed and prayed for her. So, if we will believe this time she will recover. I still believe in miracles,” man said.
“I hope, you are right,” Rita said.
Rita went home. “She closed those curtains again and it is useless to stay here. I’m not going to see anything anyway,” Tom thought.
18.11. Today is day of independence in Latvia, but Rita was working hard. They have to make a Christmas costume. There’s competition, again. Rita’s mark of this half of study year depends on this work. She was sewing something from black fabric all day. She made mistakes, so she had to star over many times.
19.11. Today Tom brought his parabolic dish to hear what was going on in Rita’s home.
Tom heard Rita talking on the phone something about charity event in Rita’s academy. He searched the web and found out that students after making Christmas costumes will sell them along with hand made jewelry, ceramic objects, their paintings and will donate some of money to restore academy’s hall. Event is called “Jarmarka” and it has been happening every year for seven years now.
20.11. “What is she making from that fabric and metal things,” Tom wondered. “This is third day in a row she is making something, but I can’t see what it is and can’t tell by the sounds, either,” Tom thought.
21.11. Today students have brought their Christmas costumes for evaluation and sale.
“Rita, I think your cat’s costume is cute, but It’s not the first place material,” lecturer said.
“I don’t think you got the hidden message behind this costume! I wanted to give all men a message that we are not something they can consume, use and then throw out!” Rita said.
“I get the message, but I won’t change my mind. Your costume will take second place and that’s final,” lecturer said.

Tom was there and heard this conversation.
“I believe, you have talent and I like this “paws off” writing on that shirt,” Tom said to me.
“I want to buy this for my wife. How much for this costume?” Tom asked.
“Five lats!” I replied.
“I will take this!” Tom said.
I didn’t pay attention to him because he was like everyone else there-interested in hand made things.
I should have paid attention.
“I just can’t give all of those photos and her scarf to that guy. I don’t have heart to do it. I have exposed many politicians that take bribes, criminals, other bad guys. All those people that I have observed just were bad and deserved to to be exposed, but Rita is just student and nice person, she doesn’t deserve for her personal life to be revealed to some weird guy named Adam,” Tom thought.
Tom wrote a note to me, gathered all pictures of me that he took and my scarf. He put all these items in box and left it on my doorstep on the next morning. That’s the morning I’ll never forget.
Today Adam called Tom again.
“Well, two weeks have passed, so what can you tell me about Rita?” Adam asked Tom.
Rita is student at Latvia’s art academy, she likes comedy. She’s learning to become a designer, likes to hang out with my friends, but doesn’t have any social network profiles.
“Why did you only sent me pictures of her hand made dresses and that costume? Didn’t you took any pictures of her?” Adam asked.
Tom said: “They were blurry because it’s hard to capture face when someone’s on the move.”
“Well, you can have her hand made costume. I will sell it to you for 10 lats. What do you say?”
“I will pay much more to than 10 lats to reward you for information and her costume,” Adam said.
“Tomorrow I will send someone to pick up her costume and you will receive your payment. Thank you for this investigation!” Adam said.
From now I’ll be more careful because I don’t know who may be watching what I’m doing at this moment.
One December evening when I came home, I saw another box on my doorstep. There was a mobile phone in that box and a note.

Note said: “This is my gift for you for Christmas. This phone is untraceable, you will need it, trust me.” Signed: “Your friend”
That was shocking.
