The
Midnight
Market

Velvet… yes the night was just that… velvet. The sky was clear…yet there were no stars, and the moon was shining brightly against the darkness… just velvet.
The air was warm with that uncertain spring chill. Zuda was walking through the streets of the Midnight Market when she first laid eyes on the shadowy figure that seemed to be in every semi-lit corner of the city. Many times she had walked those very streets where the “weird” merchants sold unique and rare items at superior deals that the daylight merchants refused to sell at their booths and tents.
Zuda stepped into Kira’s Spells and Cauldrons and began browsing through the new water spell books. Once again she noticed the figure. She paid for her book and went home.
Zuda was a bright 22 year old with fair skin and black hair not to mention her eyes were the most icy blue you could ever imagine.
She walked into her tiny apartment and locked the door. She was met by Jakarby her two year old pit-bull. Jakarby was an amazing 80 pounds and jet black with a powder white belly and tip on his tail. “Oh Jakarby…” she said as she bent over to rub his belly. She grabbed her new book and made her way to her favorite beanbag chair. Jakarby laid his head in her lap just as he had done since he was just a pup.
About fifteen minutes after she heard a knock at the door. She put down her book and got up to answer it. She opened the chain lock as far as it would allow “Hello? Hello?” she shrugged her shoulders and shut her door. As she stepped back towards her chair there was yet another knock at the door. “Seriously?” she looked at Jakarby and went to answer the door again. This time she opened the door and stepped out into the hallway.
At the end of the hall she once again saw the shadowy figure from the market. Scared and confused she ran back into her apartment. She locked her door and ran to her bed to jump under the covers. Jakarby jumped up and buried himself under the remaining covers Zuda had somehow managed to miss. After a while of contemplating what had happened she finally fell asleep.
A few weeks passed and she had almost forgot about that shadowy figure she had saw at the market. It was about 8:30 that evening and she decided that she would take Jakarby with her since she was still nervous about going to the market alone. Jakarby loved going, and had not gone for quite some time. She dug out her blue and silver cloak and Jakarby sapphire and onyx studded harness that she had spent a small fortune acquiring from one of the merchants that just happened to be passing through. 11:15 rolled around as they headed out. 37th street was a good two miles from her apartment, and she figured she could mosey since it had been a while since they had made the trip.
“Well…” she said as she looked at her pup “…we should go see Mr. Bogbottom.” Jakarby perked up and got excited. He knew there would be warm dragonweed cookies waiting for him when they got there. “I should tell him and see…” she stopped mid sentence to find the shadowy figure not more than an arms length in front of her. Jakarby sat behind her and gave a small whimper. “Who are you?” she demanded. The figure turned and vanished.
Scared almost senseless she ran the remaining three blocks to Mr. Bogbottom’s Alchemy tent. She had been going to see him for about five years and trusted his theories of medicine. They finally made it through the tiny opening of his tent. “What’s the hurry child?” Mr. Bogbottom said turning his head towards the door. “Jakarby!!” he continued pulling a dragonweed cookie from his pocket. Jakarby sat anxiously as he was tossed the little cookie.
Zuda was still out of breath so Mr. Bogbottom gave Jakarby some attention. A few minutes later she finally managed to compose herself enough to finally tell him what had happened. “Something or someone is…” she was interrupted by a snotty owl named Hulah “…following you?”
Hulah was a pretty barn owl with an amazing gift of speech and the fact that she was psychic also wierded everyone out. “Yes I know..” Mr. Bogbottom paused long enough to toss Hulah a mouse before continuing “..She can be a bit naughty at times. So tell me.. You have yet to speak with this figure?”
Zuda looked up at him “I have tried but it vanished and I got scared and ran here.” Hulah now having been fed was a bit more personable. “Well she really has been chosen..” she said in her usual goody two shoes manner.
Zuda looked confused “ Chosen?! For what?!” she said with a panic rising in her voice.
Mr. Bogbottom walked over to her and placed his hand on her shoulder. “In due time child. Come walk with me.”
Zuda trusted him and decided it might be best to leave Jakarby with Hulah. Together they made their way to Sid Murray Lane which was not on Zuda’s list of things to do that night or ever for that matter. “Why in the world are we here?” Zuda looked at Mr. Bogbottom like he had one too many dragonweed cookies.
“We are here to answer some questions. I believe you are ready” Mr. Bogbottom said to her with a smile on his face. They walked to a bronze trimmed door. Mr. Bogbottom took her hand and led her through the door. Noting the fact that they went through a door that was closed at the time did more than just weird her out it actually scared her. As she got to the other side she was in a large room that seemed to be as huge as a city, its cathedral ceiling seemed to reach the very clouds in the sky. She noticed many shadowy figures carrying books and talking to each other. “This is a school…right?”
Zuda felt relieved to see Mr. Bogbottom smile and nod even though her stomach felt like she should be nervous. “Mr. Bogbottom!! Your cloak!!” she watched in amazement as his market attire magically change to a midnight blue robe adorned with golden tassels.
“You are right Zuda but you must realize this is no ordinary school.”
They walked to a room with a single shadowy figure that looked exactly like the one who had been apparently following her. As they moved closer the figure slowly removed its hood. A tall beautiful woman emerged from under the ebony cape. “Zuda, I am Celia. Come, please sit so we can talk.” she motioned to the chair with her outstretched hand. Zuda was surprised to see such a beautiful person.
Mr. Bogbottom looked at his watch and quickly said “Oh goodness I am late. Students can’t learn without a teacher. Celia will help you and I will see you in a bit.” Zuda smiled and with a flip of his robe he vanished.
Zuda focused back on Celia and caught herself staring. Celia smiled and with a comforting tone spoke to her. “you have never seen an elf I see. I am the headmistress here.”
Zuda quickly asked “And where exactly is here?” Celia smiled once again and raised her arms as if to embrace all the air in the room. “This is Sid Murray University” at this time Celia materialized two ruby goblets filled with tea. She handed one to Zuda. “ I have been watching you for a while now and hope I have not frightened you too badly. I have tried to contact you without being seen but someone else is also looking for you and they unfortunately do not have your best interest at heart.” Zuda now knew what her tummy had been trying to tell her. Celia continued “You have been chosen for something no human being or animal should have to face, and it is of most importance you listen and do what I tell you to do.”
Zuda slammed her goblet on the table, nearly shattering the delicate glass. “ I did not ask to be here! What are you talking about?!”
Celia stood up and looked at her in a stern manner. “You have much to learn about yourself before you can learn anything else. You and Jakarby will come live here at the campus!” and with that Celia raised her arms and in a flash Zuda was sitting in her favorite beanbag chair with Jakarby fast asleep in her lap. The time on her clock read 11:45pm. She jumped up startled and extremely confused. A note was lying on the floor under her mail slot. She picked it up and read it out loud. “Midnight Market…2 AM…Thursday….Stir Cross Alley” Zuda crumpled the paper and checked her room for anything or anyone else creepy. She locked her window and door and climbed into bed. Jakarby snuggled up to her and they fell asleep.
Zuda woke up late the next morning. She reached over to get her glass of water but in its place was the note. Not crumpled but just as it was when she found it lying on her floor the night before. “This is not possible!” she said as she picked up the note and tore it into pieces. As the pieces fell to the floor they reattached and reformed the note. This time she picked it up and put it in her bag.
Zuda worked at the Daylight Market with her mother. They sold many different blankets and beaded tapestries her mother and sisters made. Zuda did not make very much money there but was happy not having to work the cliche 9 to 5 job. She got to Isabella’s Tapestries around 10:30 and was more than an hour late.
“Zuda are you ill? You are never late and you look like you had a rough night.” Isabella walked over to feel her daughters head.
“I’m ok. I just got a lot on my mind and I have not been sleeping well.” Zuda gave her mother a smile and sat down behind the counter with her book to wait for customers. The day seemed to drag out for an eternity. Finally around closing time a man walked in and Isabella greeted him. He was expressionless and cold in appearance and about 32 years of age.
“Are you Zuda?” he spoke in a dark tone staring directly at Zuda. She gasped and a look of panic crossed her face.
Isabella sternly spoke to the man. “I am sorry but you need to leave.” The man turned and as he left he muttered three words “Stir Cross Alley”. Zuda broke into tears as her mother flipped the door closed to show that her tent was closed. She walked over to her daughter and pulled her close. “Zuda, who was that? Are you n trouble?”
“No I am not in trouble and I don’t know who that was”
“I have told you about going to that wretched market. Now look at you. Running yourself ragged with worry. You…” Isabella was interrupted by her daughter.
“No. You don’t understand. There is more to the market than you think. I am and will be fine!” And with that she got up and walked out of the tent.
As she was leaving her mother called to her. “take some time off Zuda. I will make sure things are taken care of.”
Zuda breathed a sigh of relief. They did not always get along but her parents always made sure her bills were paid when she needed it.
She went home and fed Jakarby. She was not hungry so she went to take a hot bath. She sat and thought about things and wondered what the man wanted with her and who he was. She got out after a while and made a salad before heading to bed. The next morning she decided to take Jakarby to her parents to allow herself time to figure out what exactly was going on in her life. As she was walking home she noticed the shadowy figure in an alley.
She approached with caution as she whispered “Celia?”
Celia removed her hood. “Zuda, we must hurry.” she grabbed Zuda by the hand and in a split second they were inside Zuda’s apartment.
“You gotta teach me how to do that!” Zuda said still out of breath but with excitement.
“You will learn many things in time, but for now we must protect you.” Celia said with distinct panic in her voice.
Zuda removed the note from her bag and handed it to Celia. “ A tracking note?! Where did you get this?”
Zuda spoke quietly as if she was in trouble “It was on my floor and I have tried to destroy it but it just keeps on materializing, and a man came to my mother’s tent yesterday.”
“Kyafus” Celia muttered under your breath continuing with a normal tone” you are in much more danger than we thought. What ever you do you must not go to that alley alone. I need to go figure some things out.” Celia vanished leaving Zuda and taking the note so Kyafus could not find her as quickly.
Zuda began looking through her books and found a small book bound in leather. The small book read Location Binding. “This should have something about that note.” she said to herself as she flipped through the pages. She stopped when a particular section jumped out at her, “Tracking spells? This looks promising.” Zuda was so accustom to talking to Jakarby that it never crossed her mind that she had been talking to herself.
She began reading the page in her head out of fear for reading them out loud. Ingredients for tracking ink…a photograph, pickled toush root, 3 rotten eggs, two minced fickle beetles and 1 cup of risek juice…boil all ingredients in cauldron for three minutes. Place ink in quill to write on paper. This ink will make the paper indestructible and able to be tracked for 3 days…
Zuda ripped out the page and placed it in her bag. She spent the evening researching and ended up falling asleep in the wee hours of the morning. She awoke to find Celia standing over her with a very small bag. “Put what you need in this bag. Jakarby is waiting with Mr. Bogbottom. You have 15 minutes so do not tarry.” Celia was quick and to the point and vanished again. Zuda made a mad dash to gather things in the small bag that to look at its size would not accommodate a bowling ball. Celia reappeared seconds after she was finished and once again in a flash they were standing on a beautiful brick pathway in the most beautiful place she had ever seen. She looked around to take in the scenery. She noticed Jakarby peering through a satin and lace covered window. “This is your new apartment here on the campus. Time in the human world is placed on hold as long as you are here. Place your things inside we must get back before too long.”
Celia walked away this time down the path and Zuda went inside to hug Jakarby and checkout her apartment. Celia knocked at her door and handed her a coveted ebony robe adorned with silver accents. “We should be going Zuda. It is 9:30”
Zuda placed on her robe and they began walking down the pathway to a huge door that read Stir Cross Alley. Celia looked at her and squeezed her arm “ When we go through the door keep quiet and do not let go.” they passed through the door into a smoke filled alley and now Zuda was more scared than she had ever been in her life. They quietly walked up to the door without blocking the entrance. Sitting at the table were three men and a woman along with an empty chair. Among the men sat the man that Zuda had encountered in her mothers tent. They listened to the conversation…
“Kyafus ….. she should have been here by now” the woman said in a very irritated tone.
Kyafus looked at her and calmly “You better hope that she does.” he tapped his fingers on the table.
Zuda gasped and the room fell silent. Celia grabbed her and they darted down the hall back to the door that lead back to the university. Back on the other side Zuda broke down into tears. Celia knelt beside her and tried to calm her down. “Many things will be revealed to you as soon as you start training.” Zuda looked up at her with a look of doubt and desperation.
They walked to Celia’s chambers. Once again she materialized more tea. They sat there in silence for what seemed to be a very long time. Celia took a deep breath and let out a sigh “Well you are in far greater danger than we expected. Kyafus will stop at nothing to get to you. You must start training as soon as possible to have the slightest chance of beating him for he is the most powerful and evil being to ever walk the planet.”
Zuda now realized what cards she had been dealt. “Why do I need to fight him? It is just not fair.” Zuda cried to Celia.
Celia stood up and appeared to be another six feet taller on top of her already seven foot tall structure. “You will die! Do you understand? If you do not fight…you will die!!”
Zuda stood up with tears in her eyes and walked home. Jakarby was sitting by the door like usual. She gave him his dinner and then curled up an the largest feather bed she had ever seen and after a long bout of crying finally fell asleep. She awoke the next morning to Jakarby licking her face. “Ok, ok I am awake.” she scratched his ears and rubbed his belly. She got up and made some tea and took a shower in her marble bathroom. She decided to go talk to Mr. Bogbottom and grabbed Jakarby’s collar and leash. They walked for a bit and finally came to a blue alley lined with onyx stones. They walked to the door and right as she began to knock the door was already opening. “How nice of you to drop by.” Hulah said apparently in a decent mood.
Jakarby ran over to Mr. Bogbottom nearly knocking him over. “OK! OK!” he laughed handing him a few dragonweed cookies. Jakarby took his cookies and went over to lay down near Hulah. Mr. Bogbottom motioned to Zuda “We have much to talk about my dear. Things are starting to get quite messy.” She followed him through a beaded curtain into a hookah room filled with beanbag chairs. They sat down in front of a magnificent hookah adorned with onyx and ruby stones encased within opalescent icy blue glass. “You must be wondering what is going on. But I must warn you though….you may not like what you are about to hear and you just might not believe me, but I assure you it is all true.” Zuda perked up with interest and listened as she and Mr. Bogbottom enjoyed some dragonweed.
Mr. Bogbottom had been talking for quite some time before he finally said it. “Kyafus. Now that’s the real reason why you are here isn’t it?” Zuda listened as Mr. Bogbottom began telling her things about her past that she could have swore was just the dragonweed talking. “Ten years before you were born…your parents had a son. He was as bright as rain and had a lot of potential beginning to bloom by his 7th birthday. He began possessing magical abilities that allowed him to progress in his alchemy faster than anyone had ever seen. At nine he began using his abilities to do very evil cruel things. He poisoned small animals and tortured an 11 year old girl using telepathy until she almost died. Your parents could no longer control his anger or drive to rule the world, so they sent him to Anakoridge Mental Hospital for Children.”
He paused and Zuda now teary eyed and trying to find something to say spoke in a broken tone. “ A brother? I have never heard my parents even mention a brother.”
Mr. Bogbottom let out a sigh and continued “ Your mother found out she was going to have you not too long after that and decided it best for them never to mention him. Kyafus continued to grow meaner and develop more of a passion for mind control and conjuration. By 13 he had already tortured over two hundred hospital staff and patients and had inadvertently killed close to 50 others. At 15 he escaped with a few devoted followers and went to Liscarpia to hone in on his skills and convert followers…”
“And where exactly is that?” Zuda chipped in.
“Liscarpia is in the dimension south of here. Now if you don’t mind…” Mr. Bogbottom looked at her as if to scold her for interrupting a history lesson. Zuda apologized and sunk a little more in her chair. Mr. Bogbottom continued “ Soon he heard about you and this outraged him so bad that he has been searching for you ever since. Your parents changed their name to protect you and your future siblings. He has been torturing and in some cases killing girls that are potentially you. Now unaware that you are who you are, is getting closer and closer to finding out the truth and when he does you will certainly get it worse than all the others … unless you train hard and beat him. Good thing for you, there will be people there to help you along your way.” He stood up and handed her two bone shaped dragonweed cookies “Jakarby is also very special as you will soon find out.”
Zuda placed them in her bag and made a decision that the best thing to do was get enrolled in school. After all Sid Murray U was an amazing place and her accommodations were more than necessary not to mention she got to be with Jakarby which was indeed her best friend in the whole world next to Mr. Bogbottom. Zuda gathered her things and decided to get home to rest before the morning came and she had to get up and face her future head on. Jakarby was a good boy as usual on the way home and after some much needed doggie kibble was excited to receive his dragonweed bones. Zuda fell asleep quickly that night and dreamed of all the things she was going to get herself into. Morning came much too quickly and to her surprise Celia was sitting at her kitchen table with a fresh pot of tea made and a small silver box. Zuda loved Celia’s tea so she was more than happy to see a big glass sitting on the table waiting for her. “Good morning dear.” Celia said smiling and sipping on her tea. “I have brought you a special gift.” Celia handed the silver box to Zuda.
Zuda was careful not to shake the box and opened it with extreme caution. In it was a beautiful leather book with quartz letters that said Zuda’s Spells and Things. “Celia! This is… This is amazing!!” Zuda said excitingly as she dove over the table to hug Celia.
Zuda was excited to finally have a place to write down her spells that she had been tearing out of books and trying not to lose. Zuda composed herself and finished her tea. Celia spent some time getting to know Jakarby while Zuda took a shower and got ready to go with Celia to the university. Finally they headed out the door. They talked about things Zuda liked to do and about Jakarby also. The university was quiet that morning and Zuda was surprised to not hear students scurrying around chattering about the normal school stuff. They walked into Celia’s chambers and sat down at a table that had a weird looking thing-a-ma-jig on it.
“What in all creation is that?” Zuda chuckled.
Celia smiled and picked it up. “Hello Celia” a small sweet voice came from the little thing-a-ma-jig.
“Hello Naradin. We have a new student today.” Celia said sweetly placing it back on the table. Zuda was soon in shock when she saw the tiniest person she had ever seen come out of the top of the thing-a-ma-jig. Naradin brushed some dust off of her purple robe and sneezed. “Hello” she climbed over and sat on the edge of the thing-a-ma-jig. “You must be Zuda. Pleased to meecha!” She said in a voice matching her size.
Zuda lowered her head to the level of the table to look at the tiny little person talking to her. “Yes. I am.” Zuda looked at her from many different angles before Celia told her that she might want to get used to seeing things she was not accustom to seeing.
Naradin was a mere 5 and a half inches tall. The purple in her robes brought out the deep gold color of her eyes and enhanced the burgundy red curly locks of her hair. She had a sweet voice that was just perfect for her small stature.
Zuda composed herself and looked over at Celia. “So I guess I need to get my application filled out.”
“Well… it has already been done and here is your syllabus” Naradin answered.
Immediately a blue piece of paper appeared on the table with a phoenix quill pen. Zuda picked it up and began reading the sasses she would be taking when school stared in the next few weeks. Celia handed her a few papers to sign and gave her a pink paper with all of the extra-curricular thing she could get involved in.
“Now…you should go see Mrs. Toggerniky about Jakarby’s classes.” Celia placed Zuda’s paperwork in a folder and stood up. Naradin went back into her thing-a-ma-jig after saying goodbye, and Zuda without saying anything just shook her head and walked out of the room. She watched as the table slowly sank into the ground and was recovered by the emerald rug.
Zuda walked down the hall to Mrs. Toggerniky’s classroom. There were different kinds of animals actually doing things that were just too close to humans. Mrs. Toggerniky walked out from her office. “Ah… You are Zuda? Where is Jakarby?”
“Oh, he is at home I just got my schedule and Celia said to go ahead and get his classes done” Zuda said walking to a chair at yet another table. She sat there while Mrs. Toggerniky gathered all the paperwork she needed to get signed.
“Here. Fill these out” Mrs. Toggerniky almost threw the papers at her. Zuda was beginning to reconsider even placing Jakarby here but then figured Mr. Bogbottom would give her a stern talking to if she didn’t. She filled them out and gave them back to Mrs. . Toggerniky
“He comes when you come and leaves when you leave.” she said.
Zuda got up and left, she was irritated that she had just been in the same room with such a mean old lady, and that same lady would be teaching her dog.
She went home and decided to take Jakarby for a walk back in her real world as she had been referring to it when she spoke of it with Mr. Bogbottom. They walked down to the alley that read Elk Ellen Drive and passed through the door. She finally reached 3363 and knocked on the door.
“Coming.” There was a voice and the sound of running from behind the door.
Isabella answered the door happy to see her daughter. Dinner was silent and awkward that night. Zuda tried to bring up Kyafus but no matter how many different ways she tried, she just couldn’t bring herself to mention him.
They left and slowly made their way back to the door. She was frightened when she saw Kyafus standing there with his three followers from the meeting Zuda and Celia had listened to.
He started walking towards her and she tried to run but could not get her legs to move. “Zuda. Why the rush? You just got here and I think you should stay a while.” Zuda felt her legs tighten with a sharp burning sensation.
Suddenly there was a bright flash and Celia was grabbing her arm. They passed through the door and Kyafus was left raving mad that Zuda had slipped threw his fingers by just seconds.
Zuda dropped to the floor wrenching in pain. Jakarby laid down beside her and licked her face. Celia and Mr. Bogbottom wore expressionless faces as they lifted her to her feet and carried her to her apartment. Zuda fell asleep and Celia fed Jakarby even though he was not hungry. Mr. Bogbottom and Celia took turns watching over Zuda and taking care of Jakarby for the next few days.
When Zuda awoke she was greeted like any other morning, Jakarby was licking her face. Celia materialized some of her famous tea and they talked about how Jakarby had been while she was recovering. Mr. Bogbottom brought her in some breakfast and they sat almost in complete silence for the rest of the morning.
“Celia? What am I going to have to do? He would have killed me. I can’t even go see my mom.” Zuda broke into tears and sunk deep into her pillow.
“We honestly do not know dear. We just know that he is more powerful now than he ever was. You know we will help you in every way we can” Celia was almost crying herself.
“Now… how bout some dragonweed cookies” Mr. Bogbottom chipped in with a goofy smile.
Zuda and Celia both laughed and Jakarby nearly knocked him over on his way into the kitchen. Later that night Celia and Mr. Bogbottom left and Zuda cuddled with Jakarby on her big feather bed.
Right as she was ready to go to sleep she thought she heard a voice say “ I love you Zuda.”
Zuda awoke the next morning not quite sure if she had heard a voice the night before. Jakarby stretched and she thought she heard him say good morning but she was in so much shock she was determined she was going nuts. Jakarby looked at her and once again said good morning. Zuda looked at him with bewilderment. “Good morning?” she said quietly. She shook her head and headed to the kitchen. She fed Jakarby even though now she felt awkward because now her dog was holding a conversation with her.
They got ready to meet the day and got to Mr. Bogbottom’s apartment a little before noon. They walked through Mr. Bogbottom’s door and this time she heard him plane as day.
“Good afternoon Sir” Jakarby said this time walking over and gently taking the dragonweed cookie from Mr. Bogbottom.
“Why hello Jakarby…” he nodded and smiled “ And to you Zuda”
Zuda was dumbfounded stuck in one place still in the doorway. Hulah flew down from her perch and landed in front of her. “Well… looks like you are off to a good start” she laughed and flew back to her perch in her everyday snobby manner.
Zuda walked over and examined Jakarby like he was the most amazing thing she had ever seen.
“Zuda, I am still me.” Jakarby said after swallowing the last of his cookie.
Zuda and Jakarby sat on the floor and talked for a very long time. Mr. Bogbottom would come in periodically to bring cookies and engage in casual conversation.
Celia came in and nearly startled Zuda to death. This time she was not in her usual ebony robe but this time she was in a silver flowing gown adorned with onyx stone accents. She walked in and sat down beside Zuda. “Well I am glad to see that you have finally tapped in to Jakarby’s gifts.” she smiled and waited for Zuda to speak.
“Celia…you nearly scared me to death and my dog is talking to me…my life can’t get any more weird.” Zuda answered in a slow mellow tone.
“Well…you might just be surprised about that.” Celia stood up and reached out her hand to help Zuda get up off the floor.
“Jakarby you should stay here with Hulah and Mr. Bogbottom for a while. I am sure you will not mind living off of spriken juice and dragonweed cookies.” Celia looked over to Jakarby smiling.
“No…I do not mind as long as Zuda does not mind…” Jakarby said stretching out and lying on the floor.
Zuda agreed even though she was wondering what exactly she was going to get herself into.
Celia and Zuda left and once again headed down the road to Stir Cross Alley. Zuda felt an overwhelming pain start in her stomach and her palms got sweaty. “Zuda, you will be ok.” Celia stopped long enough to hug her. Zuda gave a nod and wiped her hands on her cloak. They continued walking until they reached the door. “Now that you have a cloak you will not have to hold on to me. You can do a lot of things now but remember you must once again be still and quiet.” Celia once again had that tremor in her voice.
“Ok, I know that I will just have to try to stay calm.” Zuda composed herself and got ready to go through the door.
They took a deep breath and passed through the door into the same smoky hallway where they stood on the night Zuda found out that Kyafus was indeed after her life.
They once again went to the room only this time they walked in before Kyafus and his followers got there. They stood in a far corner out of the way and not too long after herd Kyafus yelling as they were approaching.
Kyafus entered the room with only the woman this time. “I have told you time and time again!!!” Kyafus threw a ball of lightning at the wall barely missing Zuda by inches. She stayed perfectly quiet and still even though she wanted to run and scream.
