Elle stood out over the balcony. The Greek toga dress she wore flowed around her. She saw Richard McGull below her.
"Elle! Let me see your hair!" he called out. She threw down her long dark blonde hair. Her hair was like Pfairytale. She had the loveliest hair anyone had ever seen. It was beautiful, it had natural blond highlights with a touch of brunette and red blended in. She looked down at her longtime crush. He smiled back at her, his wavy brown hair blowing in the wind. His green eyes sparkled with love.
The alarm clock started playing a tacky song. Elle shut it off. She looked at the clock and found it amazing that she could fall asleep, have a five-second dream, then wake back up ten hours later. Other tacky song, it had been a great week. She had gotten a raise on her allowance, her own personal online store was doing fantastic, and she had claimed the top spot when last year's Alpha left for Harvard University.
The best of the best, the prettiest of the prettiest, the sneakiest of the sneakiest, and the baddest of the baddest got to be an Alpha. Every year since the school began in nineteen-ninety nine there have been two Alphas: one boy and one girl. They do not have to be a couple, though it certainly helps. She hopped out of bed, did a quick five-minute yoga routine, downed a glass of water, and jumped in the shower. She shampooed, conditioned, hot-oiled, exfoliated, and styled her naturally curly hair.
She applied her makeup, making sure to perfect her red lipstick. She wanted to impress Richard this year and finally make him hers. She had already planned her dresses for the year. Homecoming, winter formal, prom. Even her wedding dress.
She finished making herself even prettier, and looked through her wardrobe. She chose a denim ruffled skirt and a purple v-neck halter top with an empire waist. Her shoe selection was lavendar pumps. Her purse color was black (because black goes with everything), and she picked up a comfortable red jacket. She paused, looked at it, and shook her head. She put it over her arm and picked a black denim jacket. She picked up her tote bag and headed to her car. Her parents weren't up yet. Her father was a notorious lawyer, and her mom did reviews and surveys for a living. She actually made good money.
Elle pulled into the school parking lot. Ironically, the school was called Park High School, named after a female politician who hadn't gotten far, but she'd tried. Elle turned to face the pretty Asian girl in the green car to her right. Lexandra Yu had chosen a yellow skirt that showcased her gorgeous olive skin.
