Once upon a time, there was an old man. He lived happily with his wife. Then, his wife died. So, the old man adopted a son. When he held his son, it was like hugging his wife. So, the old man had surgeons put the boy's heart in a box, to keep forever. Everyday, the old man would sit by the fire. Everyday the boy would ask "Daddy, may I please have my heart?" The old man would sadly look at the boy's chest. A zipper where they took out the boy's heart. But still, the old man said "No, you may not have your heart. We must keep it in that box." The old man would wear the key to the box around his neck. He would never take it off. The boy tried several times to get the key, but he couldn't in the night since the old man was a very light sleeper. The boy couldn't even reach the box. It was on a high shelf. The boy wouldn't cry, he felt no emotions. No matter how many times the boy tried to climb the shelves, the old man would get up and carry him down. He'd be careful not to let the boy grab the key. The boy would sit next the old man at night, looking at the fire. One night, the boy had a plan. That night, the old man tucked in the boy. The boy waited a few hours before the old man fell asleep. The boy got out of bed and walked to the living room. The old man was asleep next to the fireplace. The boy did what he thought he'd never do. The boy pushed the old man into the fire. The old man burned and died. The boy took the key and climbed the shelves. The boy got the box and set it down next to his dead father. The boy opened the box and looked at his heart. The boy unzipped his chest and placed his heart in. The boy zipped his chest and closed the box. Now, he was happy to get his heart. But he was upset that the only person who loved him, he had burned.
