Prolong

Prolong

I sat down beside a tree, by the lake, listening to my dog barking at some random people, in their boats on the water. It was funny, I thought, one day you're head over heels for someone and the next you just wanted to choke them and rip out your heart and lock away your soul. Love is like that; A dangerous game for two. I will never love again, I told myself a month ago and I will stick and live up to that promise. But for how long?

I stood up from where I sat and looked over to the lake. The water was glistening and the sun was sparkling as it went down. I turned to leave, ignoring my dog, Rose. She'll find her way home, just like I do all the time. I made my way home realizing that I had no feelings for the world.  I decided I was done with it. I cared more about a person than I cared about myself. No wonder I was always getting hurt. I had to make my heart as cold as ice, I thought to myself making my way down the dirt path to somewhere I called Home.

I thought about all those times I thought  I was in love and how many times it turned out to be a lie. Thank God, I wasn't one of those dumb scants who met guys and make them lure them in their pants. My mama taught me better than that. It was also odd that at the age of 18 I was still a virgin. Yes, I am pretty youg to be feeling so much pain. Anyways, at the age of 18 for a rich girl, She'd be married with her first child by now, and that's where I live and for poor girls, like me we'd be whore or sluts selling things we'll never ever get back for our own. I knew what I had to do. I had to be as cold as ice to get what I wanted and that's exactly what I'd be:

A cold bitch.

Chapter 1

It was the summer of 2000. My parents lived in a small shack by a lake. The country was filled with handsome and rich bachelors who were also dumb and conceited. My parents you might have realized by now aren't the riches folks but they wanted the best from me and always told to follow my heart. I did and ended up falling in the process. I sat down reading a book my parents bought me for my birthday, behind the shack, under a big tree, beside the lake. Although I might be poor I didn't say I wanted to be poor and dumb.

"Emily!" my mother, Carla, called from the house.

My mother was practically the sanes lady I've ever met. I could tell her almost anything.I stood and made my way to the door. I came to find my mother and father seated with a rich couple. They seemed to be observing me. I turned to my mother whipping around my tall, brown, hair and flashing my green eyes in their direction.

"What's going on?" I asked them, holding my book to my chest.

My mother looked up wearily, then said," Baby, I want you to have a better life than what we have to offer now."

"Mother, what are you talking about?" I asked chuckling.

"Hun, this couple has agreed to wed you with their son."

I was shocked. It seemed like my whole body had gone numb. I took a deep breath to calm myself. It came so fast, I didn't even expect something like this to happen to me.

"Mother, you can't be serious?" I asked.

She nodded and stood to take a step towards me.  I did the most unthinkable thing to my parents.  I turned and ran back through the door I came through.

Chapter 2

I ran with my book clenched at my chest. I ran till I was out of breath and came to a stop in a flower grove. I sat down in the grass under a big tree. The sun was blazing in the distance , I could tell. I felt tears trailing it's way down my face.

I tried wiping them away as fast as I could but each time I did, a new set woild push its way out, so I let them flow not stopping them any longer. I placed a hand to cover my face feeling stupid, but shy at the same time. I couldn't help myself. I thought about the situation, about my parents  and what intentions they had for me to wed so early.

I didn't find any, yet it was a chance to have a better life.
