Afterword
“Core of Darkness”
A child conceived in Light,
Born unto Night,
Of Darkness impure,
In a shell of Light, secure.
Perfect human look-alike,
Doppelganger poised to strike,
Subtle, though it may be,
Unafraid to be let free.
Held back by Light’s strong will,
Not long can Darkness stay still,
Rushing and striking Light’s shell,
Attempting to unleash a creature of the Fell.
A being apparently humble,
Strong and difficult to crumble,
Yet inside, nothing but weakness,
Showing a simple meekness.
Truly the walking dead,
Long ago, had the soul fled,
Consumed by Darkness inside,
In Light does it reside.
The shell breaking,
The being quaking,
Darkness flourishing,
Light discouraging.
Darkness shatters through,
Upon the being, pain imbue,
Agony coursing, watch it writhe,
The being so thin, so lithe.
Hear its screeches pierce the air,
Its fingers rip and claw at its hair,
Down its face run the crystalline tears,
Surrounding it, the scent of fear.
Slowly, it starts to calm,
A faint light glows from its palm,
The injuries inflicted, now fading,
The sobs of pain abating.
Its sobs become softer, more gentle,
The writhing slows, starting to settle,
Smell of fear diluting, replaced with scent of sorrow,
Wipes it eyes, ready for tomorrow.
It slowly stands,
Cleans away the tear-streaked bands,
Renew the smile on its face,
Released again into this hellish place,
Walking off, seeming so kind,
Appearing heavenly divined,
Existing in a cold starkness,
Ruled by its core of Darkness.
“Eclipse of Light”
Darkness rising,
Light downsizing,
Shadow abounding,
Beauty drowning.
The world suffocates,
Under cruel Fates,
Tears and Fear reign,
Alongside Brother Pain.
The innocent are jailed,
The righteous have failed,
Now corruption empowering,
Honesty cowering.
The Heavenly are damned,
The pure are banned,
While Hellions are raised,
And devilish are praised.
The gentle are raped,
The held misshaped,
The doing of foul hands,
Painting Earth with blood-streaked bands.
A horror from nightmares,
Destroying those who dare,
World sinking into hate,
Taste of vile can’t sate.
Plague of evil spreading,
Future of the world dreading,
Corruption, the deadly disease,
Consuming the hopeful pleas.
The Barons now sit high,
Fear shall amplify,
Sin reigning supreme,
Undoubtedly…no dream.
The good are lost,
Far away, they’re tossed,
Into the blackening curtain,
Into the Fates uncertain.
Death, running rampant,
Everywhere, the Barons rant,
Fire, a world ablaze,
Reality, a blurring haze.
Into itself humanity crashes,
Reaper’s scythe flashes,
Sanity aflame,
Everything a shame.
Reign of darkness impending,
Purity no longer fending,
All that was pure and right,
Lost in this eclipse of Light.
“Fallen Angel’s Reprieve”
This place…
So haunted…
A dying race…
Undaunted…
Collapsing,
Into the void,
Relapsing,
The mortals, toyed…
Shadows of a world old,
Eclipsed in dark,
Ice cold,
Bearing Lucifer’s mark…
Fire consumes the world,
Here and there, a crackle,
Nightmares unfurled,
One broken shackle…
Silent,
Save the roar of flame,
Memories, violent,
Decay untame…
Whispers of Death,
Plague of Sin,
Wind’s breath,
Peace broken…
A hellish curse,
Destruction freed,
The never-ending verse,
The lost creed…
All that blaspheme,
Gone,
None to redeem,
No one…
At the sight,
Fled the vigil,
Lost the fight,
Now bear the sigil…
Song of silence,
Rhyme of reaping,
Verse of violence,
Line of leading…
All is lost,
Infinite damnation,
The greatest cost,
No salvation…
Final judgment,
Day’s end,
World dormant,
Fantasy blend…
Fields razed,
Sanity breached,
Pyres blazed,
Madness unleashed…
Rapture impure,
Apocalypse risen,
Armageddon, the cure,
Death, the vision…
Did some survive?
Or did all perish?
Did one strive?
One to cherish…
Yes, in a sense,
He, the Destroyer,
What made us recompense,
He, the Deployer…
The tormentor,
Who ended all,
The dementor,
Whom enthrall…
Now we are left,
Silent and foreboding,
Downed, by the blade deft,
Our world eroding…
The race slain,
Lifestream sliced,
A dead domain,
Lifeblood iced…
But, now it is over,
A place humble and meek,
A world now sober,
At long last the deep sleep…
The final relieve,
All he must deceive,
What next shall he conceive?
In this fallen angel’s reprieve…
“Lost”
I once ran away,
Hiding from day,
Awaiting the night,
Possessing no fright.
Watching the falling sun,
Hoping day to be done,
Day bleeds into dusk,
Light’s dropping husk.
I fled into the dark,
Heard the mourning cry of the last lark,
Down the sun fell,
And arose creatures from beyond Hell.
Up rose the moon,
Dark the world shall be soon,
The Fell rising from the ground,
Death now a harmonic sound.
Quickly and silently I hid,
Horrific things they did,
As I watched I cried soft tears,
Bearing the agony of the years.
The moon risen high,
Only sound, my soft cry,
The beasts came near,
Sensing my fear.
A behemoth nearby searched and searched,
The closer he came, the stronger my stomach lurched,
He failed and returned to his pit,
Leaving me in the tree, to sit.
I was too afraid to climb down,
Unwanting to see the bloodied town,
I shed tears and prayed for the souls,
Shivering in the night grown cold.
I am now left alone,
To hear Silence’s melodic tones,
All was quiet at a heavy cost,
Here I remain, forever lost.
“Ripped From Innocence”
Come hither,
And I shall tell you a story,
Of ages that wither,
And days once gory.
A child out of the womb,
Born of flesh and blood,
Already sealed in it’s tomb,
Returning to the mud.
Innocent and pure,
Loving and living in light,
Possessing an unseen allure,
Unbeknownst to his own sight.
Face of joy,
Eyes of love,
This sweet little boy,
Graced by God above.
Yet something hides,
Dwelling deep within,
Where Pain resides,
And Misery kin.
He has been broken,
This innocent child,
So lowly spoken,
How is he defiled?
Cursed to suffer,
Marked by Sin,
Submit to the tougher,
Never win.
He became a victim,
Of horrible crime,
Those would hurt him,
Shan’t bide their time.
Ripped from his innocence,
Lost to the light of day,
Over him fear shall rinse,
Deep his secrets stored away.
Cheeks streaked with tear,
Hand clutching heart,
Eyes glow with fear,
His world torn apart.
No more life,
Just heartbreak and bloodshed,
Eternal strife,
Into darkness he was led.
Day and night, silent tears fell,
Crying from such pain,
Never shall he tell,
Never again.
Finally the tears stop,
The blood starts,
Each red drop,
Of a dying heart.
Near death,
Darkness overwhelm,
Falling curtain, failing breath,
Into Hell’s fiery realm.
Hope is not lost,
One light exists yet,
Love the price, the cost,
A dangerous bet.
A heart true,
Finds the boy now older,
A sweet beckon, soft coo,
His beauty in the eye of this beholder.
One simple motion,
Her arms wrap him in care,
The loving potion,
New light. Does he dare?
His eyes open, he sees,
A new world, another chance,
Oh God, please, please...
Don’t strike him down with your lance.
The tears brushed,
Alighting his face, a smile,
Cheeks flushed,
Maybe he’ll stay a while.
Will he be fine?
Will he be okay?
Is there a sign?
Who can say?
“Shameful Heart”
What have I done?
What can I claim?
There is no more fun,
Just so much shame.
An agonizing sin,
This hateful betrayal,
My mind a roaring din,
How badly have I failed?
My heart became fickle,
I sewed pain and distrust,
Sliced through by Misery’s sickle,
Succumbance to temptations of Lust.
I failed one love,
And I broke another,
One pure as a dove,
The other gentle as a mother.
Fate so cruel,
Destiny so twisted,
I exist as nothing, save Pain’s tool,
The agony unbested.
Drifting apart,
I’m fading away,
Began at a bad start,
Over, and now I pay.
No longer do I see my sun,
Surrounded in dark,
Myself, I now shun,
Victim of Sin’s mark.
Born in Pain,
Wreaking havoc,
Caught in tear-streaked rain,
I stand here, a lone maverick.
Merely Fate’ pawn,
Bearing Eternity’s scars,
My Light totally gone,
Heaven’s crossed stars.
Soul crushed,
Emptiness impending,
Sobs of torment, now hushed,
My seams rending.
Wallowing in self-hate,
Nothing, but an abomination,
Threaded by cruel Fate,
Subject to everyone’s domination.
All I do is destroy,
Hurt all who mean to me,
A pawn in Misery’s employ,
Crushing all I see.
Lost in Darkness, frozen in time,
Ripping all I love apart,
Committing this terrible crime,
Inside me, just a shameful heart.
“Eden”
The garden of divine perfection,
Place of no insurrection,
The haven of eternal joy,
With no agony in employ.
A truly wondrous thing,
Where birds beautifully sing,
With happiness overflowing,
And new life ever-sewing.
Our very first home,
Where animals happily roam,
And creatures live safe,
Protected from tension’s chafe.
There is naught but joy, love, and hope,
Under God’s all-seeing scope,
In simple yet glorious majesty,
Nowhere, tragedy or travesty.
Everything moving in harmonic beauty,
Possessing no difficult duty,
A forest of heavenly glory,
Life like it were a story.
No horrible death, only glorious life,
No suffering, no strife,
Each being existing in bliss,
Without knowledge of their nakedness.
The heavenly garden,
Creatures living in pardon,
There: no pain, no bleedin’
In the Garden of Eden.
“Phoenix”
Bird born of ash,
A flaming sash,
The fire of new life,
End of aged strife.
Creature of no death,
Brought to life in one breath,
Starting consumed in dark,
Covered in End’s mark.
A small flicker of light,
Still dark as night,
From the ash comes a faint glow,
Nothing remarkable, though.
Then sparks a flame,
Of which, lifelight came,
Spreading slow, burning soft,
Light moving into Darkness’ loft.
Crawling faster,
Moving outward from its caster,
The fire quickly grows brighter,
Light becoming mightier.
The bird nearing rebirth,
Almost burnt out of its hearth,
Darkness relenting by fire,
Truly a sight to admire.
Flame still burning,
Life still learning,
Light empowering,
New life flowering.
Thus it is reborn
From ash and death it is torn,
Finally at its flaming zenith,
Lives the resurrected phoenix.
"River - Unity"
Hear the river sing,
Listen to the words that ring,
Understand his say,
Follow his way.
The River says that we should unite,
We should not fight,
Not those who are our brothers,
To not strike one another.
We need to be friends,
Not threaten each others’ ends,
We must become one people, one race,
Not slander our friend’s face.
We need to join together,
So we may stand through any weather,
We must stand for good and peace,
Instead of rip at each other, piece by piece.
The River sings to us all,
Together we shall not fall,
River tells us to become one,
United, no harm can be done!
"Crown of My Heart"
Before you it was dark,
My heart was cold as ice,
I bore the Exile’s mark,
Solo, my great entice.
Empty were my eyes,
Devoid of life,
I lost my prize,
Just tear-shedding strife.
My life was Hurt,
Drowned in Pain,
Ignored every passing flirt,
Forgot everything vain.
Then I left all that behind,
And tried to start anew,
Old body, new mind,
Watched in a different hue.
Yet again, I fail,
I gave up, I quit,
Emissary of Lost hail,
Come deal me the final hit.
I was at the brink,
The last step off the bridge,
Ready to sink,
And fall off the ridge.
But I stopped,
I saw something,
Kept me from being dropped,
And what did it bring?
I saw another chance,
I saw something new,
Who holds this stance?
It is you.
You give me light,
A second hope,
A new sight,
No longer will I mope.
I was deathly afraid,
Cowered in fear,
Did all that you bade,
Just wanting you here.
You were struck,
I was there,
To give you luck,
And help you bear.
I wanted you to see,
Died for you to know,
Who I could be,
What I could show.
But I waited,
Ever-patiently by your side,
Told you, you were not hated,
Not once I lied.
Then came my turn,
I showed you how I felt,
Made you to learn,
Your reaction made my heart melt.
I said, I love you,
And I smiled,
You said, I love you too,
And we cried a while.
You are my love,
Beside me in joy,
My heavenly dove,
So sweetly coy.
With you, I see light,
Near you, I have hope,
Beside you, it’s so bright,
Along you, I’ll always cope.
My beloved mate,
My only desire,
Please be my fate,
Please kindle my heartfire.
Others may say you’re impure,
But you’re my virgin so-sweet,
Together we’ll endure,
Misery, we’ll defeat.
‘Til Death do us part,
Mate, purer than divine manna,
You are the crown of my heart,
My dearest Hannah.
“Midnight Meadow”
The sky made of colors, rich,
Stars shining high in the night,
Finally found our own little niche,
At last everything is all right.
I hold you in my arms now,
Whispering soft words of love,
My heart to you, I vow,
Thanking the Trinity above.
Lay your head over my heart,
Hear every gentle beat,
Nothing will tear us apart,
My love, my sweet.
I lean down and ask for a kiss,
You pause and brush my lips,
The one love I could always miss,
Across your cheek, brush my fingertips.
I pull away slowly,
A content smile lights my face,
I am yours wholly,
No longer need you chase.
We lie down in the flowers,
Holding each other, so warm,
Around us the trees tower,
No more emotional storm.
I hold you close,
My soft breath against your neck,
My delicate rose,
We no longer a wreck.
I sigh I love you,
Curling my fingers in your hair,
My love so true,
My heart, I’ll always share.
With you, I’m sure I’m safe,
I am secure,
Love no longer a wraith,
Our hearts so pure.
Lie your head against my chest,
Close your eyes and dream,
Now let your body fall to rest,
As I watch the stars gleam.
Together we shall live happily,
Following in Bliss’s shadow,
So won’t you join me,
In our midnight meadow?
“Star In The Dark”
When I came here,
I had nothing, was nothing,
Lived in constant fear,
Just wanted to be something.
I had no more will,
Awaited death,
Thought about that pill,
That final rest.
The world was bleak,
Mere shades of hate,
Chased away the meek,
Yet one light could abate.
One gentle soul,
Faint glow,
Could it make me whole?
Or deal me the final blow?
I chased after it,
This golden ember,
So darkly lit,
In that dreary November.
Followed the dream,
Saw it flame and saw it fade,
Ripped at the seams,
Still I stayed.
Stepped in faith,
Through months of waiting,
No longer a wraith,
No more agonized waiting.
The glowing light,
It was and is you,
Nearby, I’ve no fright,
One of so very few.
I asked for your love,
You did not reject,
Nor did you shove,
Both of us, less wrecked.
I asked your hand,
Please be my mate,
Beside you I’ll always stand,
To protect and to sate.
You are the light of my life,
Whom only I shall mark,
With you, there is no more strife,
You, my star in the dark.
“Intertwined”
Many things you see,
Coincide with one another.
Where Light, Darkness,
Where Darkness, Hope.
Where Hope, Despair,
Where Despair, Joy.
Every light casts a shadow,
The brighter that light, the darker its shadow.
Life and Death,
Future and Past.
Beginning and End.
Love and Hate.
Without one the other dies,
Without both we are lost.
Good and Bad.
Right and Wrong.
Heaven and Hell.
God and Devil.
Everything is intertwined.
Everything is balanced.
No thought without voice.
No deed without consequence.
Afterword
These poems come from a time of great hardship for me. I was in my first strong relationship and kept making mistakes throughout the whole thing. No matter how hard I tried I couldn't seem to stop from making the same mistake repeatedly. To the careful reader, I am sure you can see the points where things were good, and things were not so.
Yet from all of this turmoil, I only grew both in spirit and heart. Now the question is, has the reading experience made you grow any?
