“Brianna!” James shouted into his best friend’s ear
“Hmm?” Brianna groaned turning in her bed
“What do you mean hmm? Were late for school genius!” he said shaking her awake
“What?!” she was fully awake now; she quickly jumped out of her bed sprinting to her closet searching desperately for clothes. “Why didn’t you call me?” She said reappearing with dark blue skinnys and a yellow band tee.
“I tried to about a thousand times but you wouldn’t answer your phone so I came over to wake you up personally” he answered standing by the door frame of Brianna’s bedroom
“Oh crap!” Brianna reached for her pillow and fumbled with the sheets “found it!” she said grabbing her phone “lets go”
“Aren’t you going to wear shoes? Brush your wild pillow hair? And maybe brush your teeth?” James teased
“Oh my god!” she rushed into the bathroom across the hallway from her room. 15 minutes later they arrived at Jersey High School.
“Hurry up!” James said pushing Brianna through the door of their first period class.
“Ms. McArthur and Mr. Knight late as always” Mr. Myles their chemistry teacher said “please take your seats and get started on today’s assignments”
“Yes sir” Brianna said shyly to her teacher
They both made their way back to back of the room and sat in their assigned seats. Brianna’s friend lexis who was sitting in front of her turned and whispered “woke up late again?”
“Yeah” Brianna whispered back
“God I really hate chemistry” James complained as they made their way down the crowded hallway
“You wouldn’t hate it so much if you’d pay attention instead of flirting with lexis” Brianna laughed
James snorted “don’t hate! You know you’re the only girl for me” he said playfully
Brianna giggled “if you say so honey bunny”
They both cracked up with laughter
Brianna was in fourth period world literature, which was one of her only class she didn’t have with James. She was seated in the front row closest to the door. Mrs. Meyers was talking about some unknown author and Brianna lost interest, instead she looked into the hallway. Mrs. Meyers always left the door open. Then a boy her age passed by with the principle, Brianna gasped, he was breath taking. He was even more gorgeous than James. He was tall, he had a vanilla tone of skin, his hair was dark and his eyes…they were beautiful. They were the deepest blue she had ever seen in her life. He turned and looked at her, he nodded and kept walking.
“Hey! Hello? Earth to Brianna!” James snapped his finger in front of her face
“Oh” she said startled “what?”
“You’ve been dazing off that’s what” James said as he chugged down his milk
“I’m sorry. What were you saying?” she said trying to focus her attention on him and not on the boy she had seen
“I was saying that I have practice everyday this week and half of next week for football” he said poking at his greasy pizza with his straw
“Oh for next Friday’s away game?” Brianna asked
“Yeah for that, practice starts at 4:00 and ends at 6:30 each day. It’s such a drag!” he slumped into his chair
“well if it makes you feel better I have cheerleading practice every day this week until Friday from 4:30 to 6:00” she said “ and we have morning drills starting tomorrow at 7:30 until 8:05”
“Hmm guess I do feel better then”
Jordan one of jame’s football teammates came over to their table “guess what captain?” he said smiling wickedly at James
“What?” James said showing no interest in the topic
“Rumor has it that we’re going to have a new player on our team here tomorrow. They say he is one of the best.” He said looking at James for some sort of reaction
James was a year older than Brianna he was the football and basketball captain. He was the best player in both teams as well as the hottest guy in school.
“oh.” James said as he chewed on his nails “we’ll have to see during practice tomorrow then wont we?”
“Whatever you say boss” Jordan smiled at Brianna and left
“You excited to know who it is.” Brianna asked
“Naw” James said then he smiled “actually yeah, I want to see if he’s any good”
When school was over James dropped Brianna off at her house and left to go to football practice. Brianna entered her house. There was no one home other than T-Rex, her cat, who was sleeping on her bed. He opened his eyes as soon as Brianna entered her room and meowed. “Hi boy!” she said petting the cat. He jumped off her bed and went to his bed in the corner of her room. Brianna found her laptop and brought it to her bed. She had to type a paper for American Government. Her phone began to ring, she checked the caller I.D. it was Ileana, she was class president and one of Brianna’s closest friends. Brianna answered “hello?”
“Guess what?!” her friend shouted
“Um what?” Brianna asked curiously
“We have a new student at our school!” Ileana said excitedly
“Who?” Brianna asked interested
“A boy named Xavier he’s a senior, he just transferred” Ileana squealed
“How do you know?” Brianna asked. Her heart was racing; maybe it was the boy she had seen.
“I’m class president, silly! I know these kinds of things and anyways Principal Johnson was looking for someone to guide him and since sadly I’m not going to be at school tomorrow, I offered your loyal services”
Brianna gasped loudly and managed to ask her friend “why me?”
Ileana laughed loudly “because people love you, you’re a sweetheart, so kind and gentle. So I put you up for the job so you in what?”
“Um okay have fun at your meeting in New York” Brianna said defeated
“Yea thanks!” Brianna heard a click and her friend was gone. She shut her phone. She looked at the time displaying on alarm clock on her dresser it was 5:00. James was still at practice. She flopped on her bed and closed her eyes. The vibration of her phone woke her up. Brianna slowly reached under her pillow a and answered it. “hello?”
“Hey!” James said
“Hi, you out of practice?”
“Well duh! It’s been about an hour now, were you sleeping or what?” he said he sounded like he was looking for something
“Well I was but you called”
James laughed “well bri I’m going to let you go okay? See you tomorrow and don’t be late! I’ll be at your house at 7:00 k? Bye” Brianna threw her phone on her bed and went to take a shower when she was finally ready for bed it was 10. She hated being home alone; her parents were going to be gone for 3 weeks on a mission in Africa to help the sick. At least I have James she thought to herself. T-Rex was already fast asleep on his bed; she laid on her bed and fell asleep.

Chapter 2

“God I hate drills!” Lexis said as she ran besides Brianna “it’s a pain”
Brianna smiled and said “at least you’re in shape”
“Yea or I would be dead by now! Couch is really pushing it!” they stopped running and put their hands on their knees to catch their breath. Brianna didn’t feel tired though, they had ran at least 1 mile. I was 8 when they finished. They had 5 minutes to get ready and Brianna still had to go and meet the new boy at 8:05. She was in her black tank top and baggy grey sweatpants with her hair tied up in a bun above her head. She had no choice but to leave the gym as she was. She went to the office.
“Yes?” the secretary asked without looking up from her typing
“There’s a new student who I was supposed to guide around school today?” Brianna explained
“Oh yes. He’ll l be here any minute why don’t you sit down?” The secretary said waving at a chair that was along the office wall.
“I think I’ll get a drink first” Brianna stepped out of the office. She walked slowly down the hallway towards the drinking fountain. She was thirsty; her mouth was dry which meant she was nervous. Her phone buzzed in her pocket. She fumbled trying to open it; she had a new text message from James.

She replied quickly

She was too busy trying to explain herself to James she didn’t notice the boy behind her.
"are you brianna?" the voice was deep but soft.Brianna jumped, dropping her phone in the proccess. she reached down to get it but the boy had caught it in his hand "sorry i didnt mean to startle you" he apologized
Brianna stood there motionless. it was the boy she had seen the day before! he was hotter in person brianna thought to herself. "umm..yeah..you're xavier right?" she stuttered
he smiled softly "yeah that's me" he said as he handed back her phone
"oh okay. do you have your schedule?"
"yeah you want it? here" he reached into his back pocket and pulled out his schedule. he handed it to her.
"wow!" she said we have chemistry, World literature and lunch together" as she spoke,her phone vibrated again. she knew it was james, so she opened the phone and read the text.

WHO'S THAT? -JAMESTOWN

xavier was looking at her "boyfriend?" he asked
brianna laughed "no he's my best friend, who's freaking out right now because he didnt know where i was. he's also in our chemistry class first period." she explained
"oh i see"
"well i should probably show you where its at" brianna started walking and xavier followed her.
"is this it?" xavier asked looking at the door and down at his schedule that brianna had handed back.
brianna flashed him a smile "yeah it is!" she put her hand on the door handle "you ready?" she asked looking into his gorgeous eyes
"i guess i am" he shrugged
"So if you add these two chemicals together what do you get?" Mr. Myles addressed to the class. by then everyones attention was on brianna and xavier. the girls were starring at him in awe and wonder.
"and you are?" Mr. myles asked impatiently not liking the fact he was being interrupted
"i'm xavier Montoya" xavier said looking at the clock by the door
"oh i see, well Mrs. McArthur would you please show Mr. montoya to his seat."
"yes" brianna led the way back towards the end of the room.
lexis turned around "hey!" she said looking at xavier with a sly grin
"hey lex" brianna answered "do you know where james is? he just texted me"
lexis looked at james's seat "i could have sworn he was here just a minute ago but i guess i must of been distracted" she said looking at xavier again
"oh" brianna slumped in her chair
"you alright?" xavier said taking james's seat beside brianna
"yes" brianna said
the intercom beeped and the secretary's voice came through "Mr. myles could you please sent xavier to the office, its urgent." xavier was already off his seat and out the door before she finished
"he's gone" Mr. Myles said
"okay thank you"
brianna looked around..where was james? why did he leave without telling her where he was going. she was worried this wasnt like him..and xavier..why did he leave so suddenly..it was only first period

chapter 3

She didn’t see either of them until lunch. James was the first one to show up. He marched through the cafeteria looking on the edge. He flopped himself on a chair across from where Brianna was seated. “Where were you?” Brianna asked handing him a bag of Lays.
“Out and about. Something came up and I had to take care of it.” He said as he looked around the cafeteria.
“Oh...is everything okay?”
“Yeah...why wouldn’t it be?”
“I don’t know. It was just a question…sorry” Brianna said. She was relieved to see that he was okay. She just wondered what could be so important that had James looking like someone was out to kill him.
“I’m sorry” James said grabbing her hand
“Its okay” Brianna sighed giving him a small smile
“Okay” James said removing his hand, when people started to stare and smiled at her “I don’t want you to think I’m an asshole”
Brianna laughed “I couldn’t hate you...your my best friend”
James gave her a weak smile “yeah...Always” James stiffened and muttered under his breath just then Xavier walked in the room. Brianna saw him right away and waved at him. James was clenching his fists; he was giving Xavier the death stare. Xavier made his way over to the table where Brianna and James were seated. “Who are you?” James hissed
Xavier noticed James for the first time, he was too busy smiling and looking at Brianna, his smile faded. Both boys stared at each other. You could cut the air around them with a knife. “I’m Xavier Montoya...who are you?” Xavier asked. James just kept staring
“James knight” James growled never taking his eyes off of him
“Oh aren’t you like the football captain?”
“Yeah that’s me” James replied
“I thought so. I wanted to know about joining the football team.” Xavier said as he sat down next to Brianna, and looking up at James. Who was looking away biting his lip.
He finally looked back and gave Xavier a hard look. “If you want to be on the football team you gotta show me what you got, so I can recommend you to coach O. we already have enough players but we’ll see. Be at the football field at 7:00.”
They glared at each other “I’ll be there”

Chapter 4

By the end of the school day everyone was talking about the new boy, especially the girls. Brianna heard them as she changed into her sports bra and shorts. She saw Chelsea, the cheer captain stand on one of the benches in the locker rooms. “Listen up girls. We are going to practice outside today because the gym is going to be used by someone else today. So we will be going out to the football field to practice today. So be out in the field in two minutes”
It was nice outside. Lexis nudged Brianna when they arrived at the football field “look” she said. Brianna looked. The cheerleaders had stopped to look in awe. James was in short with no shirt on, he had the body of a model. “Why didn’t you tell he had a hot bod!?” lexis squealed. Brianna didn’t know what to say. She had seen James without a shirt on before. He would always go to her house to swim in her pool. She didn’t tell lexis though. “Well now you know” she said smiling
James rushed over to where Brianna was covered in sweat, when practice was over. Mostly everyone was gone but them. “Just wanted to see if you’d wait for a bit” he said lying down in the grass
“Yeah” Brianna wanted to say and get to see Xavier. She sat down on the ground next to James and laid her head on his stomach. They both looked up the sky. James was playing with Brianna’s long brown hair. They laid there until they heard someone clear their throat. Brianna sat up and saw Xavier. James was on his feet immediately .
“Sorry if I interrupted something” Xavier said
“Its cool man, we were just laying down” James said putting on his muscle shirt. “You ready?”
xavier was in basketball shorts and had a black t-shirt on. “Yeah”
“Okay good. Brianna I’m going to need you for this” James said handing Brianna stopwatch
“Oh okay...do you just want me to time his speed?” She said pulling her hair up in a ponytail
“I just need you to help me judge him...sound good?”
“Yeah”
“Okay” James stretched his arms out in front of him. “First I need to see how fast you can run, I need to see endurance. We’re going to be running from here to the park and back. “He said
The park was about 3 miles away; Brianna knew that James could easily run 5 miles without breaking a sweat.
“All right sound good. Shall we get started?” Xavier said dropping his gym bag on the grass by Brianna.
“Ready, set go!” Brianna shouted as she started the stopwatch. The boys took off running, the seemed to be going at the same speed. She decided to sit down on the grass and check her phone for any missed calls. She had a new text message.
It was from Ileana
How’d it go?! What did he say 2 u? –Lilli
Brianna smiled, she hit reply
Ok. He just asked if James was my bf! Lolz –Bri
She hit send. She untied her ponytail as she lied down on the grass and closed her eyes, and then she heard someone approaching. She thought it was James but when she opened her eyes she saw Xavier. She stood up right away. Xavier stopped when he saw Brianna stand. “Hey!” he said as he caught his breath. Brianna stood staring. James was nowhere to be seen. It was less than 5 minutes.
She finally found her voice “hi” she kneeled down to open her cheer bag. “Would you like some water?” she asked retrieving her water bottle.
“Yeah sure” Xavier grabbed the water bottle. He chugged the water down quickly, it dripped down his neck. “Sorry” he said examining the empty pink bottle.
“It’s okay” Brianna said as he handed her back the water bottle
Xavier stared at her. She was pretty for a human girl. She was medium height at least 5’7 and she had an amazing body. He knew that for sure as he checked her out from head to toe. Her hair was brown and it was straight and long, it reached her waist. She had pretty dark green eyes. Her smile was beautiful, he wanted to lean in and touch her lips.
She felt him staring. She blushed and looked away. Xavier smiled softly. “You think I’m in or what?” he asked
Brianna turned with a smile on her face “of course, you’re definitely in” Xavier grinned.

Chapter 5

Just then Brianna saw James heading into the parking lot. “James!” she yelled as she waved, she walked her way to where he had stopped to wait for her.
“Hey” he said looking back at Xavier “you ready to go?” he asked grabbing his bag
“Um yeah” Brianna said. She noticed that something was bothering James, she wanted to ask him but she knew it was always better to wait. She looked back at Xavier; he looked so gorgeous standing there in the field. She wanted to go and talk to him but she had to go and comfort her best friend. So she climbed into James’s truck even though she didn’t have her bags.
James noticed Xavier looking at Brianna and he didn’t like it one bit. He felt better though when she climbed into the truck with him. He saw Xavier as he pulled out of the parking out reaching for Brianna’s bags. He looked over at his best friend; she had left her things behind just to comfort him. He felt like an asshole yet he felt good knowing she cared about him. He smiled. “I’m hungry” he said patting his stomach as he stopped at a stop light.
“Oh well what do you want to eat?” Brianna asked looking at her phone.
“Surprise me” James said turning right as the light changed to green.
“I can make us something to eat if you want. I have plenty of food at home since mom and dad are gone. Brianna said putting her phone down
“Okay” James smiled “what are you going to make?”
Brianna thought for a second “I think I’ll make spaghetti”
James grinned he liked spaghetti. He pulled into the drive way of her house. The house was big but it looked lonely. James shut off his truck and opened the front door with the key he had. He headed straight to the kitchen, digging through cabinets and Brianna’s refrigerator.
Brianna’s phone beeped. “Who is it?” James asked with a mouth full of Doritos.
“Hold on” Brianna said as she walked to into the living room to take the phone call. A few minutes later she returned with a smile on her face. James didn’t know what to expect so instead he helped her cook. By the time they had finished eating, cleaned the kitchen till it was spotless from all of the mess James made it was 9:30. James was lying down on Brianna’s bed dead asleep.
She poked him “hmm” he said
“You staying the night?” she asked although she already knew the answer
“What does it look like?” he mumbled. Brianna smiled; she made her way down the hall into the guest room to sleep since James was already in her room. It was 1:34 and Brianna was still wide awake. She turned on the lamp next to the bed. Just then her phone began to ring, she looked at the caller I.D. it was a number she didn’t recognize. She decided to answer the phone after a few rings “hello?”
“Hey” the voice said softly “can’t believe your still up this late”
Brianna smiled as her heart raced. She didn’t believe it. Lexis had called her when she got home to ask her if it was okay if she gave Brianna’s phone number to Xavier. Brianna had asked why and all lexis said was that he had asked for it. And now here she was talking on the phone with him. “Yeah me either” she said with a grin on her face
“Why do you say that” Xavier asked
“Because I usually go to sleep early when I have cheer drills”
Xavier laughed “should I hang up then?”
“No! It’s okay; I want to talk to you”
“Okay then, if you say so”
“So what are you up to at 1:34 in the morning?” Brianna asked as she logged into her laptop she had retrieved from her room.
“Well I can’t sleep, there’s always something going on in my house at all hours”
“Oh…is that why you had to leave right away in the morning?”
“Yeah my family had a visitor over and I had to be here to meet him”
“Sounds like your family is busy” Brianna responded as she got a hold of her I-tunes.
“Yeah you can say that…” he never finished his sentence.
“My lord, your brother requires your presence in the meeting hall immediately”
Brianna was puzzled. The man in the background had called Xavier “my Lord”. What did that mean? He had a brother? Older maybe? Brianna found herself dumbfounded. Xavier’s voice broke her thoughts. “Hey I’m sorry, I have to go. I really wanted to talk to you but I can’t at the moment. Promise we’ll talk tomorrow?”
“Uhh yea, I promise. See you at school”
“Bye Brianna” he hung up. He hated his so called brother. Andrew sure did know how to get on Xavier’s nerves. Xavier actually liked talking to Brianna. She was sweet and beautiful. She was nothing like the girls he knew, who were cold hearted and cruel. He didn’t like her friend James, he didn’t smell human.

Brianna woke up to the alarm on her cell phone. It was 6:30 and surprisingly she didn’t feel tired like she thought she would be. She heard the shower going, which meant James, was in the shower. It was good that he stayed over a lot because he already had extra clothes at her house. She went into her room and headed to her closet to raid for something to wear. She found some faded skinny jeans a black sweater and her black converse.
“Hey what’s up?” James said walking in her room drying his hair with the towel in his right hand. Brianna turned and looked he had no shirt on just his black sweat pants and his white with red Jordan’s.
“Nothing just finding some clothes to wear, so I can get in the shower” she said grabbing towel of her dresser drawer.
“Uh-huh well I’m going to eat something do you want anything?” he asked
“Umm no I’ll buy something at school” Brianna said hanging up James’s wet towel on her desk chair.
“Oh okay. Don’t take too long or I’ll break down the door” he said with a grin
Brianna giggled as she headed to the bathroom. She took 20 minutes in the shower. She dressed herself, dried her hair, and headed downstairs to meet James. “Ready to go?” James asked as he picked up his keys from the counter
“Yeah” Brianna said grabbing her bag from the counter as well.
“Okay lets go, we don’t want to be late” James said as he opened the front door and stepped out. Brianna followed him.
James almost ran into Xavier. “what the hell?!” he yelled

Chapter 6
Brianna stood there speechless. She couldn’t believe that Xavier was standing in her drive way. She heard James cursing as he avoided running into Xavier again. She had a feeling the boys didn’t really like each other by the way they were standing there, their eyes shooting daggers at each other. If only a look could kill Brianna thought. “Hey” she said smiling at Xavier “I didn’t know you knew where I lived”
“I didn’t but I asked one of your friends and she gladly told me” he said breaking into a smile
“Figures” James mumbled
Xavier shot James an annoyed look “anyways I thought I’d stop by and say sorry for last night”
James gave Xavier a fishy look “what about last night?” he said eyeing both of them suspiciously
“Oh! Xavier it’s okay!” Brianna said. She turned to James and flashed him a smile “its okay James, we just talked it was nothing”
James gave Xavier a hateful glare “better not for your sake” he hissed. Then he turned to Brianna “you ready to go since Romeo already apologized?”
Xavier cleared his throat “actually I was wondering if maybe you wanted to catch a ride to school with me” he said glaring at James then smiling at Brianna
Brianna had butterflies in her stomach. Xavier went through all that trouble just to come and apologize and now he wanted to take her to school. She could almost scream with happiness. She grabbed James by the shoulder and asked “is it okay if I ride with Xavier?”
James felt like punching Xavier in the face but he couldn’t do it in front of Brianna, she would hate him. He was about to start bitching but when he looked at Brianna’s face, he saw how happy she was, he couldn’t say no. “Fine by me, I’ll ride solo then” he stomped all the way to his truck
Xavier watched James leave, he knew he pissed him off and Xavier really didn’t care. It just pissed him off that James seemed so controlling over Brianna.
Brianna didn’t mean to piss of James; she just wanted to see Xavier. “We should get going” she said after a moment of awkward silence
“Yeah” Xavier said as he began to make his way to his car.
Brianna was impressed by Xavier’s car, it was a black corvette. “I love your car” she said
“Yeah? Thanks, I heard it’s a chick magnet” he said grinning
Everyone stopped and starred as Brianna and Xavier got out of the car. Xavier opened her door; he even walked her to her locker. The girls gave Brianna hateful stares but Brianna didn’t care. When she reached to carry her books from her locker Xavier took them. They entered chemistry together; they seemed to get everyone’s attention. Brianna made her way to the back of the room to sit at her lab table with James.
“How was it?” he asked without looking her
Brianna knew he was still bad “it could have been worse” she said choosing her words correctly
A smile crossed James’s face as he imagined it. “Nice to know” he grinned he looked at her then asked “hey you want to go somewhere after school?”
“Don’t we have practice today?”
“Pft no, teachers have to go to a meeting after school”
“Oh I didn’t know that! Where do you want to go?” she asked
Xavier was overhearing the conversation that James and Brianna were having. He was sitting in the table in front of them with lexis who kept trying to flirt with him.
James acted like he was hurt “what?” Brianna asked panicking
“I can’t believe you don’t remember!” he said acting shocked “it’s our anniversary!”
Brianna gasped “Oh my god!” She squeezed his hand “I forgot!”
“I know” James said laughing now. It was their friendship anniversary. They had known each other since kindergarten. They had met in school and have been inseparable ever since.
“I haven’t bought you anything though! I’m the worst best friend ever!” Brianna said sliding down her chair.
“Calm down, I forgive you for forgetting. We just need to go shopping for the presents and then go somewhere and eat.” James explained calmly.
“Okay, I’ll go shopping for your present after school”
“Okay, I already made reservations for 8 o clock tonight”
“Okay then” Brianna said. The bell rang and James left since he had asked for the rest of the day off. Brianna was stuck at school for the rest of the day. She ran into Xavier before second period started. She almost slammed into him. “Oh hi” she said surprised to see him.
“Hey. Didn’t mean to scare you” he said grabbing her fallen books.
“Umm…its okay” Brianna wanted to leave. She had completely forgotten about James. She had to go and buy him the perfect gift.
Xavier looked at Brianna she seemed distracted “hey” he said grabbing her arm “you okay?”
“Oh um yeah!” Brianna tried to give Xavier smile but it never reached her lip “well not really” she admitted “I forgot that today was my anniversary with James”
“Oh so you are together” Xavier said he hated how his voice sounded jealous.
“Oh no it’s not like that...it’s our 12th anniversary being best friends but I have no present” she sighed the tardy bell rang but neither of them moved.
“Well why don’t you leave school go and buy him a gift?” he suggested when he saw how upset she was.
“I would but I have no car at the moment”
“I can take you”
“Really?”
“For you, I would”
“You would do that?” Brianna asked blushing
“Yeah” Xavier smiled softly. He grabbed her hand and they left the school hand in hand

I don’t know what to get him” Brianna said after looking around for hours.
“Well what does he like?”Xavier asked bored. He really wasn’t interested in what James wanted he just wanted to be with Brianna. He really needed to get a grip, he knew she wasn’t his kind, that she was human yet he couldn’t stay away.
“James likes a lot of things” she said sitting down on a chair in the food court.
Xavier sat across from her
“Oh” Brianna said smiling broadly “a necklace!” she got a puzzled look from Xavier
She laughed “James always has this ugly necklace underneath his shirt, it has a paw imprinted on it but I’ve never seen it off of him. He’s always wearing except when he has practice or showers. Come on!” she stood up and pulled on Xavier’s hand.
“This one!” Brianna pointed at the necklace, it was beautiful. It was a silver cross with black stones on a leather string. “Its gorgeous” she breathed “how much is it?” she asked the sales lady
“Its $500 dollar, its on sale it was originally $800.”The lady said
Brianna looked shocked but then smiled and said “I’ll take it”
The lady grabbed the necklace of the display and it in its box “do you want it wrapped?”
“yes please” Brianna didn’t know what time it was but she still had to go home and get ready. “All set” the sales lady said “your total is $505.36”
Brianna pulled out her credit card. It was 6:15 when they finally left the mall “thank you for coming with me” she said shyly to Xavier as they got in his car
“Your welcome” Xavier replied as they pulled out of the mall parking lot they arrived at her house 10 minutes later. Xavier put the car in park
“Well thank you again Xavier, for everything, I owe you one” she said as she reached for the door handle
“you sure do” he said. Brianna laughed. It was a nice laugh not like the cold sarcastic laugh he heard from jennate.
“I’ll call you later” he said shifting the car to drive
“Okay” Brianna got out of the car and headed straight to the bathroom to take a shower. She got out 23 minutes later. She checked her phone; she had two missed phone calls from James.
“You ready?” he asked as soon as he answered
“Not yet. I barely got out of the shower”
“I’m already ready” he said happily. He sounded so proud of himself, like a three year old who finally went to the bathroom all by himself. “I’ll pick you up around 7:45 okay?”
“Yeah okay. Don’t be too early” Brianna joked and hung up
she went to her closet, it was crammed with clothes. She grabbed her black skinny jeans that hugged her waist. She found a taupe daytrip baby doll mesh tank top, that she had gotten for Christmas. She searched for her burgundy motto zipper jacket. She went to dry her and put on some mascara and lip gloss. She heard a honk outside; she ran downstairs and ran into James
“Ow” she said
James laughed “sorry”
“Its okay” she said getting her grey flats.
When they arrived at the restaurant it was packed. People were trying to get in but they were kicked out because they had no reservations. James pulled her close and pushed his way to the guy behind the booth.
“May I help you?” the guy snapped
“yeah, we have a reservation for 8:00” the guy popped his gum and looked at his computer screen. “Let me guess” he said chewing his gum loudly “James knight?” he said giving James an I have better things to do stare.
James looked like he was ready to slap the guy “yeah man, just give us our table and we’ll be on our way” the guy sighed “let me see here…table 17”
“Thank you” James said forcing the words out of his mouth. “Lets go bri” James huffed angrily
“I don’t know what I want to eat” Brianna said as she scanned the menu
“Food maybe? You know just a suggestion”
“okay what are you having then Mr. Genius?”
“I’m going to have to get me some of this Italian salad, because of my diet” he winked at her “and some battered meatballs covered in their special sauce” he said looking satisfied
“I guess I’ll have what you’re having as well”
“You sure you’ll eat it all? Cause then I’d have to sacrifice myself and eat it for you”
“Of I course I can eat it!” Brianna snapped
“Okay” James said holding his hands up in surrender
“Okay maybe you were right” Brianna said after she tried to eat the rest of her food
“aren’t I always?” James teased

Brianna blushed when James flashed a big toothy smile
James reached inside his pocket and pulled out a box. He slid it across the table, it bumped Brianna’s hand.
Brianna looked at the box, it was small yet it was so full of beautiful designs “it’s beautiful” she grinned
“Open it” James smiled
Brianna grabbed the box with both hands, she held it delicately. She opened and gasped


Chapter 7


Brianna stared at the necklace, it was gorgeous. It had a lucky tooth encrusted with onyx stones and a tag that had her name on it, the chain itself was gorgeous. “Wow” she said
“Do you like it?” James asked waiting for her response
Brianna looked up at him and smiled “of course I do! I love it! It’s so beautiful I’ve never seen anything like it”
“That’s because I had it custom made just for you” he said “I’ve had for a while now, I just didn’t want to tell you”
“Oh my gosh, this is so awesome” Brianna felt so happy it was a beautiful gift “it must have cost you a fortune” she pulled her hair up in a ponytail and put the necklace on. “How’s it luck”

“Beautiful” James grinned

Brianna reached into her bag and handed James his gift. He attacked the wrapping paper, he opened the box. “Dude!” he hissed dropping the box

“What’s wrong?!” Brianna was shocked at his reaction, James looked pale “James?” she waited for him to say something

“Where did you get this?” he choked out

“Um...at the vamp’s Hut” she managed to say

James cursed under his breath “did you go by yourself?” he said looking at her

“No I was with Xavier why?”

“Go figure” James whispered to himself “look bri its not that I don’t like it, its just that it looks expensive…like way expensive. I guess I’m just shocked”

“No I wanted to get you this! When I saw it I knew it was made for you! Really!” she grabbed his hand

James seemed calmer “yeah…I love it.” He grabbed the necklace and put it on “how do I look?”

“It looks killer” Brianna smiled

“Killer would be right” James huffed “well come on I’m ready to leave”

“Thank you James” Brianna said hugging him tightly. James squeezed her, he smelled wonderful.

“Come on we got movies to watch”

They went to rent movies at Hastings, they rented at least 10 movies, and of course all of them were horror movies. They were James’s favorite.

As they pulled into Brianna’s drive way her phone went off “it’s my parents” she mouthed to James, he nodded grabbed the keys to her house and went inside “hi mom!”

“Hi sweetie” her mother Teresa replied “how are you?”
“I’m good mom and you?”
“Me, I’m fine were boarding a jet to go to Morocco”
“Oh and dad?” Brianna asked getting out of the truck
“Oh he’s with the pilot arguing, you know your father”
“Yeah” Brianna went up to her room. James was lying on her bed petting T-Rex
“Did you go out with James?” her mom asked
“Yeah we did mom, James got me this beautiful necklace”
“Oh! How lovely you better send me a picture, I would like to see it”
“Of course I will mom, and then you can show it to dad”
“Yes of course honey, is he going to stay over?”
“Yea you know James, he rented about a zillion horror movies and he will not sleep until he’s seen them all”
Her mother laughed “yes, that sure does sound like jams. Well you kids have fun and happy anniversary! Your father and I miss you and we love you very much”
“Me too mom” Brianna said and hung up
James had changed to his shorts and one of his black muscle shirts. Brianna went to her closet and found her Pajamas.

She went and flopped on the bed besides James. “So what movie do you want to watch first?” James asked as he went to turn on Brianna’s TV and DVD player

How about none?” Brianna suggested with a grin

“Your funny, which one?” James asked

Brianna sighed, she looked at the movies. They had rented Freddy Krueger movies, Friday the 13th, Freddy vs. Jason, saw 5 and 7 (Brianna hated those) Day breakers and Gabriel. “Um let’s watch Freddy Vs Jason” Brianna said after looking at each movie closely

They began to watch the movie; they were in the boiler scene, when Brianna’s phone began to ring. With a burst of speed James grabbed her phone and answered “hello?” he said wiggling his eyebrows and flashing Brianna a wicked smile. Brianna groaned. James always did that when someone interrupted a movie. Brianna grabbed for her phone but James rolled away. His face expression got serious “what you want?!” he hissed, he then rolled his eyes “why should I?” he barked into the phone, he listened then he threw Brianna’s phone on the bed and marched out of the room.

“Hello?”

“Hey I hope I didn’t interrupt anything important” Xavier voice said

Brianna smiled brightly “of course not! James just doesn’t like it when people call and were in the middle of watching a movie” she stood and went downstairs to the kitchen

“Okay, how’d it go?”

“Oh it was good, James got me the most beautiful necklace ever, and you should see it” she said reaching into the fridge to get bottled water

Xavier was silent after a few seconds of silence he spoke “oh cool nice to know you liked your gift” Xavier knew he sounded jealous, which was something new because he hated humans but this one was completely different.

“Yeah” he heard Brianna say

Just then Jennate walked into his room.

“Brianna’s it okay if I call you later?”

“Um yeah okay”

“Okay bye Brianna” he threw his phone on his bed and stood. “What do you want?” he asked her coldly. Not that he didn’t like her, she was beautiful. She had long curly black hair and a model’s body. but xavier knew her better than her looks he knew she could kill cold heartedly and not regret it ever.
"i came to see if you where going to go to your brother's party" she walked to his bed and sat next to him
"he's not my brother" xavier said coldly
she laughed dryly "you still talking to your human?" she asked, her eyes searching his face
"why does it matter to you?" he snapped
"because your mine" she said getting up and looking at him angerily
xavier got up and ran his finger through his hair, he walked towards jennate
he grabbed her arm "i am no ones, no one owns me, i own them. dont forget who your talking ot jennate" he said in a dangerous tone
she slapped him hard across the face "dont forget who your dealing with" she hissed
xavier lost his calm, he was next to her in less than a second and she was slammed against the wall in less than two.
"dont you dare talk to me that way!" he yelled. he could feel himself changing, he felt his power.
"well then what are you going to do about it?!" she yelled back at him. he seemed confused, he looked at her up and down. he then began to kiss her furiously, she kissed him back just as hard.

Brianna must have dosed off after she came back from the kitchen because when she woke up she saw James, who was watching My Bloody Valentine “what time is it?” she asked rubbing her eyes

James grunted “4:23 am” Brianna flopped on her pillow and groaned. James got up and turned off the TV, he then laid next to her “what?” he asked poking her side with his finger

“Nothing, I just can’t believe I fell asleep on you, I’m sorry” she said turning to him

“Oh” James laughed “its okay, I forgive you” they starred at each other

Brianna cupped his face in her hands and kissed him softly on the lips “good night” she said sleepily, she laid her head on his chest and fell asleep

James laid there with his eyes peeled wide open, he didn’t need sleep. Brianna had kissed him, it was shocking. She had fallen asleep on his chest, it felt good. He loved her; he didn’t want anything to happen to her. He wouldn’t...not while he was still alive. The kiss had been soft and light yet it was so amazing. Sure he had kissed many girls…but her’s was the only one he really cared about. He sighed and played with her hair. His phone vibrated in his left pocket, he slowly removed his from underneath Brianna’s weight and grabbed his phone.

“Hello” it was 6:11 in the morning who would want to bother him at this time? But he knew who it was before he checked the caller I.D. “what Jared?” James said sitting up on the bed

“Dude we got a situation, we need you down her fast”

James inhaled sharply. Jared was the second in command when James wasn’t around. Jared was a brain, if he said there was trouble it must be something big. “I’ll be there in 10” James finally said and hung up. As much as he would love to stay with Brianna he knew he couldn’t, at least not at the moment. He put his sweatpants over his shorts and grabbed for his shoes. He headed downstairs, grabbed his keys from the counter and left.

Brianna woke up from a nightmare. She was dreaming of a man and a woman who were being killed right in front of her. She sat on her bed covered in sweat and panting loudly. She looked around, James wasn’t there. She got up and went downstairs, he wasn’t in the kitchen, his truck and keys were gone. Brianna shut her eyes the images of the man and woman seemed so real, it scared her. She wanted to tell James but he wasn’t there. She looked at the time 11:23 it was almost noon. There was no point in going to school. She looked out at her pool; it looked so welcoming she decided to put her bathing suit on. Brianna went on the low end, she never went past 5’7, she was afraid she’d drown. She couldn’t swim very well; she only went to the deep end when she was with James.

The water was cool, it tickled Brianna’s skin. She walked towards the deep end. She stopped when she saw the cut that split the deep end. She turned to head back to the low end, and lost her footing.

She went under; her pool went up to 12 feet. Brianna panicked as she went in deeper. She couldn’t hold her breath any longer, she was all alone. She would die this way, drowning. She stopped kicking and moving her arms, she closed her eyes and let the water swallow her.


Chapter 8


Xavier had gotten no sleep, not like he needed it or anything. He didn’t go to school thanks to his brother’s party which had not ended till 8:00 am. He decided to drive to Brianna’s house. He had to see if she was there, he didn’t know why…something was bothering him. He parked his car, he sighed and got out. He knocked and ran the door bell but he got no answer. He tried the door but it was locked. He heard a splash. He went around the house and jumped the wooden fence. He saw Brianna go under water. He stood paralyzed, he didn’t know whether to save her or leave. He didn’t have to save a human but his heart spoke first. He peeled of his shirt, kicked off his shoes and dove into the pool. She was unconscious by the time he pulls her out. He laid her on the pool side. He slowly slapped her face, she didn’t move. He knew what he had to do; he had no choice if he wanted her to live. He laid his left hand to her cheek.

She gasped coughing out water. Xavier had saved her, he looked like an angel. He was soaking wet. “You saved me” she whispered softly

Xavier smiled “I couldn’t let you die”

Brianna smiled weakly, she tried to stand but her whole body was weak. Xavier carried her inside and laid her on the living room couch. Brianna then realized she was in her bathing suit. She blushed and looked away. “Thank you Xavier. You don’t know who much I owe you. I don’t think I could ever repay you”

Xavier sat in silence then quietly he replied “you owe me nothing. I’m just glad you’re alive because I you weren’t I couldn’t live with myself.” Brianna sat stunned. She felt herself blush furiously. She hears James’s truck; she could hear his loud rap music.

“Brianna!” James shouted as he walked through the entrance of the house. He walked to the living. He saw Brianna on the couch soaking wet with Xavier standing in front of her. He looked back and forth confused “what’s going on?”

Brianna slowly got up and hugged her best friend tightly. She began to cry on his chest. James began to panic “what’s wrong?” he asked grabbing her by the shoulders

“I almost died James” she cried uncontrollably. Brianna didn’t know why she was crying but from the moment she saw James she had burst out crying. She was so happy to see her best friend

Xavier felt a ping of jealousy when Brianna went running to James instead of him. He felt like punching James.

James was stunned. Almost died? “What?” she stuttered hugging her more tightly?

“I almost drowned but Xavier saved me. He saved me James” she said pulling away to look at Xavier

James looked shocked. Brianna thought as she backed away from him. James starred at Xavier. Finally after what seemed like an eternity he spoke “you’re wet” he stated “you can shower and borrow some of my clothes”

Xavier was about to protest but when Brianna grabbed his and ad led him upstairs he shut up.

James stayed downstairs, he was too shocked to say or do anything. He should have never left yet if he would have stayed Brianna would have been gone for good. He sighed heavily and went outside to make a phone call.

Brianna led Xavier in to the bathroom. He stripped of his wet shirt. Brianna almost fainted (technically speaking of course) he had a body of a god. She blushed when he caught her starring. All of sudden his arm reached out and he slowly caressed her cheek.

“You’re so beautiful” Xavier blurted out. Wow he was out if it, not she want, he just would have never said that to a human…yet now he got the feeling she wasn’t human.

“Thank you” Brianna blushed

Xavier pulled himself closer to her. They were inches away from each other. Brianna finally broke the spell. “I got to go so you can shower” she left quickly.

James had just hung up his phone when Brianna came outside. He hugged her tightly. He was glad she was alive; he would have died if she weren’t.


It was Friday morning. Brianna was in her cheerleading outfit and she was ready to go to school. She had had early practice at 7:10 but now she was in 1st period. James was furiously pulling at his hair. “its looks fine” Brianna reassured him for the 10th time.

“well it doesn’t feel fine” he grumbled “fine I’ll just look like a douche bag for the rest of the day.” He hissed furiously at his hair. Brianna couldnt help but laugh. 5 days had gone by since her incident and here she was sitting next to her best friend arguing about his hair.

Xavier had been gone for most of the week, only showing up the last 2 periods of the day. Brianna never saw him, she felt like he was avoiding her. She just decided not to confront him about it. They got out school early to be at the game on time. It was only 2, it was a 3 hour drive, it was only 9:45 am.

“there is no way I’m going to take the damn bus"
