There are two other major things that we cannot live without. I do not care who you are as a Christian, what you do or have, you will not make it in this life without these two things. I am sure that you know what they are if you are a true and mature Christian. It is Faith in God and the Holy Spirit. Faith is the #1 most important thing a Christian must have. It is so significant that even Jesus Christ Himself put it first and He did not do anything without it. Then Jesus said to the disciples, “Have faith in God (Mark 11:22, NLT). Apostle emphasized about the importance of faith in God. So, you see, it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that there is a God and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him (Hebrews 11:6, NLT).
The Holy Spirit is the one thing born again Christians must be filled with. I say this because it is in the Holy Scriptures and Jesus Christ also had to be filled with. The Holy Spirit connects directly us to God. One day when the crowds were being baptized, Jesus himself was baptized. As he was praying, the heavens opened, and the Holy Spirit descended on him in the form of a dove. And a voice from heaven said, “You are my beloved Son, and I am fully pleased with you,” (Luke 3:21-22, NLT).
The Holy Spirit is more than just speaking in tongues because He plays a major role in our spiritual lives. I can give you a whole lot of things just talking about the importance of the Holy Spirit in a Christian’s life. I used to be a teacher of the Holy Spirit as a subject in a church that I got saved in. Do not get me wrong, I am not a theologian, bible scholar or ordained minister. The knowledge I have is from the teachings I used to have in the church and a handful of revelation from God in my relationship with Him. I must also add that the Holy Spirit is the most complex subject any Christian can master. There are a lot of ordained ministers of the gospel who
With the Holy Spirit comes the Spiritual Gifts, which what I am talking about in this book. This book is birthed out of what I have observed from Christians lives and the body of Jesus Christ. We have neglected the leadership of the Holy Spirit and the function of spiritual gifts in our daily lives. We do our own things by our own will and use these gifts for our own selfish desires and gain. Yet, these spiritual gifts were given to us for the purpose of God and His gain, not ours. People are no longer getting saved in large numbers, and the world does not believe in the church of Jesus Christ because our conducts. Let me not step into some toes and just get to work.
The Holy Spirit Phenomenon
As I have said before that the Holy Spirit is the most important thing in a Christian’s life altogether. He is the one who connects us to God. Jesus Christ gives us access to Eternal Life, but the Holy Spirit gives us access to communication with God. I believe that the Holy Spirit is given less credit than He deserves. He is only mentioned of in the book of Acts. The reason may be the fact that He mostly works behind the scenes. In the beginning of creation, the Holy Spirit is easily overlooked at, but He was in the beginning.
The Holy Spirit in the Beginning
The account of God’s creation in the book of Genesis 1 easily overlooks at the presence of the Holy Spirit. We always focus on God creating the heaven and earth, the earth being without form, void and darkness. Then we move to God speaking light and everything into being. I would like to take a moment and point you to something very powerful and significant. The last part of genesis 1:2 says …And the spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters (KJV). The Holy Spirit has been present since the beginning, or even before. I always used to wonder why the Spirit of God is mentioned in the midst of creation was, but He was never focused on. As I dwelled and focused more into this last part of this verse, it came to me that the Holy Spirit was involved in restoring what was messed up between verses 1 and 2, according to history. A spirit brings life to something. The Holy Spirit brings life to the Word of God. You will understand this more later on when I talk about the birth of Jesus Christ.
If the Spirit of God did not have anything to contribute in creation, He would not have been spoken of in the first place. Why something of no significance would be mentioned in the bible. It came to my spirit that the Holy Spirit is the one who made the Word God spoke come to life. The Holy Spirit gives life to the Word of God. That is why people who have the Word but not the Holy Spirit cannot make things happen, raise the dead heal the sick and so forth. He is the one who has enabled us to represent his new covenant. This is a covenant, not of written laws, but of the Spirit. The old way ends in death; in the new way, the Holy Spirit gives life (2 Corinthians 3:6, NLT). The apostles began to make things happen after they were filed with the Holy Spirit. Hence Jesus Christ said “But when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, you will receive power”… (Acts 1:8, NLT). I do not want to go ahead of myself with this because the Holy Spirit carries with Him life. You have to look closely at a series of events where the Holy Spirit was present. Anything or anyone who was dead came to life.
The Holy Spirit inside a man
If it was not for the Holy Spirit no human being would be alive. Adam was just a lifeless body until the Holy Spirit came inside him. And the Lord God formed a man’s body from the dust of the ground and breathed into it the breath of life. And the man became a living person (Genesis 2:7, NLT). Adam was a man with the Holy Spirit of God until sin removed holiness, and man became just a living spirit. God is a Spirit… (John 4:24, KJV). In the Old Testament, the Holy Spirit was referred to as the Spirit of God. It is in the New Testament that He was referred to as the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit upon God’s chosen
Before Christ and Pentecost, the Holy Spirit came upon people whom God chosen. However, the purpose was still the same as now. That is to fulfill the Will and purposes of God. God put the Holy Spirit upon priests, prophets and kings to perform His Will. To priest the Holy Spirit was for the work of the tabernacle, which was holy and sacred; to prophets it was to deliver His message of past, present and future events; and to kings it was to lead His nation. Here is one scripture reference: So as David stood there among his brothers, Samuel took the olive oil he had brought and poured it on David’s head. And the Spirit of the Lord came mightily upon him from that day on (1 Samuel 16:13, NLT).
The Holy Spirit in the birth of Jesus Christ & John the Baptist
As I have said earlier on that where the Holy Spirit is there is life. This story is no exception. An angel of God came to Mary and told her that she will have a miracle child. Mary was a virgin and not yet married to Joseph, so this was hard for her to digest. Mary asked the angel, “But how can I have a baby? I am a virgin.” The angel replied, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the baby born to you will be holy, and he will be called the Son of God (Luke 1:34-35, NLT). Christ is the Holy Spirit Himself inside a man of flesh called Jesus. Do you see the transition from Adam to Jesus? Adam was the Holy Spirit of God inside a dust man named Adam. This is restoration of what took place in the beginning. The Scriptures tell us, “The first man, Adam, became a living person.” But the last Adam—that is, Christ—is a life-giving Spirit (1 Corinthians 15:45,
