"Zombie movies suck," Sara said in a disgusting voice. She took a handful of popcorn and shoved it into her mouth as the butter dripped down her chin.
"What are you talking about?" Amelia asked Sara, just as Amelia realized Sara had already eaten a fith of Sara's popcorn container.
"Sara," I spoke, as I took away her popcorn container. "the movie hasn't even started yet and your popcorn is nearly empty,"
"Olivia, give it back," Sara said, as she reached over Amelia to grab her container back.
"The movie's starting," Amelia grabbed the remote and highered the volume on the TV in her attic. "better get quiet if you want to hear the beginning,"
"Some of us don't want to hear the beginning," Sara spoke quietly, but just loud enough for Amelia to hear her.
"Ug, not a news interruption!" I belted.
The news reporter popped up in the middle of the TV. She spoke, saying, "Sorry for the inturruption, folks, but there's mysteriously been some zombies roming around the Sleepy Hollow, NY area. I highly suggest that if anyone who is watching this and lives in that area should take cover this instent."
Amelia lowered the volume. She looked to her left, at me, then to her right, at Sara. We all exchanged scared, frightened, and nervous looks.
If there was a zombie apocalypse, which I dought, what would happen? What could happen?
"See, this is why I hate zombie movies, because they always make you scared and make stupid things up and,"
"Sara, this isn't fake, at least I don't think," Sara and Amelia broke the silence.
"It has to be fake, zombies aren't real," Sara stated.
"Well, even if it is fake, we need to make a plan," I told them.
"Like what?" Amelia asked.
"I don't know, like what we're gonna do when the zombies try to attack us," I told her.
"Well, while you guys do that, I'll be making some more popcorn." Sara got up and walked towards the mini kitchen in Amelia's attic.
"Sara, c'mon. If this is true, which there's a fifty percent chance that it is very true, and we need to plan," I yanked the popcorn out of her hand and brought her to the couch to sit down.
"Okay, what are we going to plan?" Sara sat down and asked us.
"Well, we should get a bunch of food, you know, stock up," Amelia said.
"At cTown," Sara added in.
"Anyway, we should get some canoes and kayaks from the beach club," Amelia said.
"Yeah, three canoes or kayaks, one for supplies, one for food, and one for us," I told them.
"Or, instead, we should bring our pets. Then, each of us could go in one canoe or kayak. But Sara cannot go in the food canoe," Amelia said.
I laughed, as Sara asked, "How come?"
"Because we'll have no food left," I told Sara as she took out a pepperoni stick.
"Save that for the boat!" yelled Amelia.
"Ug," Sara complained. "why do these stupid zombies have to exist!"
"Sara, c'mon. This is kinda serious. But then again, who takes zombies serious?" I asked Amelia.
"When they're eating you and you don't have a plan," Amelia responded.
We finally finished talking about our excellent plan.
We'll go to cTown, then head to the beach club for canoes and kayaks. We'll set sail and zombies can't swim!
Our plan is perfect. We'll definetly survive. But what about Grace? And Natalie, and Julia?
"Guys, we should call the girls," I told them, both Sara and Amelia agreeing.
"You call Julia," Amelia said pointing to me. "you call Grace. I'll call Natalie,"
We did as told.
"Julia's not answering," I said.
"Neither is Natalie." Amelia said.
"Whatever. Let's just do our plan now," said Sara.
So, all three of us left for cTown, up the street from Amelia's house, also, the main part of our plan.
"How much food do we need?" Amelia asked Sara and I.
I was thinking maybe all three of us should grab as many things we want.
"I'm thinking like a whole canoe full of food, or maybe two," Sara shared with us.
"I don't know, Sara. Maybe three quarters of the canoe, so that one of us could fit inside," Amelia explained.
"Let's just grab what we want, and then we'll meet up near the entrance," I said to both of them, as we discovered we were the only ones in the grocery market.
We all split and went into seperate aisles.
I went into one aisle, but then realized that all our friends could die. I needed to call them and tell them to come.
"Amelia! Sara!" I screamed. They both came running towards me instantly.
"What?" Sara asked, sounded tired.
"We need to call everyone, they could die," I told them.
"Oh, you're right. You guys brought your phones, right?" Amelia asked us, as we nodded our heads. "Great. Call 'em."
So, we did as told, once again.
And, the people we called did as told, too, because all of them came to cTown.
Sophia, Grace, Tess, and Kate, but not Julia or Natalie, or Andrea. For some reason, they weren't answering. Neither was Courtney.
"Okay, guys, grab the food you want to survive," Sara explained to all of them.
Once again, we all split into different aisles. However, I did see someone in the same aisle as me. There was only nine aisles, and seven of us.
Time flew as my cart was full. I went to the entrance.
Surprisingly, Amelia, Grace, Sophia, Tess, and Kate were already there. However, Sara? Still looking for food.
Eventually, Sara was finished. She came towards us, all of us facing her. Sara facing the door leading to outside.
"You finally finished!" joked Tess.
"Yeah, you took forever! And look how much food you've got!" Kate kidded.
Sara started laughing a little, then looked through the door. The small small tranformed into a horrified expression.
"Sara?" I asked her, checking if she was alright.
"Ahh!" screamed Sara, "Natalie's a zombie!?"
For a second, all of us thought Sara was crazy. But, then we realized that Sara would never lie about something like that. Slowly, we all turned out heads to look behind us.
I caught a glimpse of of Natalie as a zombie in the distance.
Then, she got closer, and closer, and Sara wasn't lying.
It was scary, and to make it worse, a crowd of zombies followed Natalie.
All of us freaked, except for 2. Amelia and I. Sara was somewhere in between freaking and knowing she needed to think quick.
Sophia, on the other hand, flipped. Screamed. Cried. However, she could still text all her contacts to come to cTown.
Slowly, as the zombies got closer to us, Sophia's contacts showed up. However, time was running out. I needed to make a decision, run, fight, or die.
Running seemed like a good option.
But I couldn't leave all my friends.
Slowly and cautiously, I pulled out my hand gun.
Aiming a zombie, I thought hard about doing this.
The crowd of Sophia's contacts quickly now came. Graham ran right towards Sophia, to comfort her. Tell her it's alright. But that was a lie.
I chose to shoot.
Firing the gun at the zombie, I realized who it was.
It was Jasmine, my best friend.
I had to. She was already dead, I had to face it. If I didn't do it, then I would be dead.
"Olivia, Amelia!" recognizing Sara's scared voice, I looked behind me to see she was about to be attacked by what is now Julia. Did Julia not recognized Sara? They're best friends!
"I'll be right there," I yelled back.
She heard me.
Firing quickly, I heard a scream.
I was already running towards Sara when I turned around. I wish I hadn't.
Tears rolled down my cheeks, and I knew this isn't going to be the only time I cry today.
"Cyrus!"
I had shot Cyrus, by accident.
Cyrus and I don't completely get along, but I swear, I would never meaningly shoot him.
"Cyrus!!! You don't know how incredibly sorry I am!!" I screamed, sounding like some three-year old whining.
I watched him fall, blood streaming out.
I couldn't do anything to stop him die, though. 1. I shot his chest 2. You usually can't survive that. 3. He's surrounded by zombies, so if I tried, I would die.
I sadly left him, heading towards Sara.
Forcibly, I pushed Julia away from Sara, Julia hitting the ground.
Turning, I saw Graham. As a zombie.
Well, not fully morphed, yet.
Him heading towards Sophia, made me rush to her.
He was so close, though. And I was so far away.
Graham, Sophia's boyfriend, attacked Sophia.
She fell, crying, frightened.
I whipped my head around and didn't know what to do, what to say.
I cried again.
More friends being attacked? Hopefully not.
Grace and Maura were running, along with Helen. At least they weren't being attacked.
Friends being zombies, I couldn't get used to that. Not today. Not ever.
Within a blink of an eye, I was surrounded.
Zombies, four of 'em.
Around me. Watching me. I was afraid, very afraid.
However I couldn't just spend my time sobbing like an idiot.
I had to take action. My hand gun? Over by Cyrus' body, where I dropped it.
One of the four zombies flew to the side, falling on the hard concrete.
Through the open gap, I saw Michael.
He . . . saved me?
I guess.
Getting back into fighting stance, and out of "caught in the moment" stance, I raced through the gap between two zombies.
Getting to Michael, we exchanged looks.
"Thanks," I said to him. "For . . . saving me."
He nodded.
The silence, broke, by a zombie (of course).
How, you ask?
Well, Michael was throwing to the floor, right in front of me.
Michael, getting transformed into a zombie, I ran away. Quickly, but worried.
Confused, much? Well, Michael and I aren't the best of friends. However, I'd care if he got attacked by a zombie!
Now, I had to seriously find Amelia and Sara to talk to them. Before anyone else got killed . . . at least so I don't have to witness it.
"Amelia!!" I screamed. I actually found her! Between all the blood, fog, zombies, and panicky people, you could barely find a building.
Amelia turned around, noticing me from the distance. Screaming back, she said, "Olivia!! I found Sara- she's with me! Come here!!"
I did as told, and caught up with them.
"What are we going to do?!" Sara asked, sounding panicky.
"I don't know . . . But I think we should go with our plan we made," Amelia told us, practically screaming.
"No! Our plan says to leave and I can't leave! WE can't leave all of our friends! They're going to die!" I screamed. By now, all three of us were pretty much sobbing.
"Olivia, we need to save ourselves. Our friends . . . They . . . They can save themselves. Olivia, trust us, this is the best thing to do right now. We'll rush to the beach club in a minute," Amelia explained.
"Okay . . . Fine. But give me like ten minutes, so I can do what I can."
Sara and Amelia nodded and went their own ways.
Taking a deep breath, I looked around.
Put yourself in my shoes.
What would you do if you suddenly found out your town has been filled with zombies? And the worst part is, all your friends are the zombies. Yet, there's more. Most of your friends are getting killed right now.
Spotting Tess and Kira running, I smiled, knowing they would make it.
Blinking, and not believing my eyes, Tess suddenly fell. Kira, too.
A few zombies did that creepy walk towards them, as they both tried to crawl away.
Just seeing the zombies go in and attack them, was tough. However, seeing them coming out was worse. How? Because Tess and Kira were in the group. Of zombies.
Throughout this whole time, I've been doing some what a lot, and some what nothing.
On the bright side, I haven't died yet.
I noticed that Grace and Maura hid behind bushes. Helen, Anna, and Kate, too. They were all in the same area.
"Yo, Olivia!" Someone called. Sara. "Ten minutes are up!"
Running towards her, I made sure I was far away from any zombie. Even what used to be my friends.
"I'm really sad about this whole thing . . ." Amelia confessed. "I mean, a lot of people died. Strangers, and friends."
"I know, it's sad." Sara comforted her, while Amelia started to cry.
"I seriously wasn't expecting this . . . I don't think anyone was." I told them.
About five guys from our grade were trying to fight back at the zombies. They couldn't.
They all were thrown, and the zombies got 'em.
Amelia told me with her hands to c'mon. I looked around, at what was my town . . . Now what is this zombie habitat.
Helen's brown eyes peeking through a shrub, watching the three of us. We were close to the only ones left. An thts why we needed to leave: we were a direct target for zombies.
"C'mon!" Amelia yelled, not being mean.
We followed her. She was leading us towards the beach club. However, it would take a while to get there from cTown.
"Hurry!" Amelia screamed, from a few feet ahead of us.
"We're running as fast as we can!" Sara yelled back at her.
"Well, try harder!" Amelia looked back at us as she turned to go on the next street.
"What's with you lately?" I asked her, trying to sound a little mean.
"Look, there's zombies behind us." She explained, stopping and pointed behind us. "If we don't run, we're gonna die. Got it?" She snapped. We quickly agreed, not trying to fight. "Guys . . . I'm sorry. I'm just as terrified as you guys are. However . . . We seriously need to act fast."
"Let's go," Sara told us.
We were now entering the manor. As we got closer, I felt more terrified.
The grocery bags were nearly about to burst; we stuffed so much food into each bag. It made me hungry, and that's when I looked behind me.
Since all three of us were practically in a line, running, I expected to look back and see no one.
To my surprise, I spotted a whole bunch of zombies.
Now running across the bridge to reach the beach club, I started to wonder. What if we were the only ones? The only ones who acted fast and did something.
"Guys, were here! Now the zombies are directly behind us so we have to grab one canoe each. Go, now!" I ordered.
Forgive me for not mentioning this earlier, but we brought items. Our pets, and some "utilities" like electronics and stuff.
I had the food, Amelia had the electronics, and Sara had our pets.
We dropped all the bags we were each responsible for into the canoe we each grabbed.
For example: Sara grabbed a canoe, she's going to put the pets in there.
"They're getting closer!!" Sara screamed with fear.
With the canoes now tied together, thanks to Amelia and some rope, they were all lying on the sand. Ready to set sail.
Now getting back to Sara's statement, I laughed as I said, "Too bad zombies can't swim,"
Pushing the boats into the cold, river water, Amelia laughed a little.
"What?" I asked, sounding more relieved.
"It's funny- we started watchin' a zombie movie, and now zombies are practically invading our town. Maybe more towns," Amelia explained, not giving the best explanation.
"What 'cha trying to say?" Asked Sara, poping into our conversation.
"I don't know . . . It's just so weird. Think about it- zombies took all of our friends and probably family," she spoke up, turned around to face the water ahead of her.
" I know it's really weird," I agreed with her. " and you were right about acting fast. Look where it got us."
It's hard to think about what just happened- out there. In front of cTown. It was scary, and I have no clue how I dealt with it.
But . . . We were going to be on the water for a long time, probably.
I pulled out a snack from one of the bags and it turned out to be what looked like a poptart from Sara's bag.
"No, don't eat that!" Sara commanded.
"Okay, okay. But we should eat something." I told her. Amelia and her both agreed on the poptart.
I cracked it into thirds and gave each of them an equal piece.
Amelia's canoe was first . . . And Sara's was last. Mine was in between both of them- because I had the food.
Eating the snack, I though of what we would do next.
"So, we'll find an island of some sort . . . And live there for a while, right?" I asked both of them, just to clear things up.
"That's sound like the plan to me," Sara said.
Silence was our friend for a few minutes.
"I . . . Actually see an island over there- I think." Amelia told us, then showed us.
We managed to pick up two small tree branches before we left, to paddle.
With the help of these branches, we started to paddle towards the object that was supposably an island.
"How long were we on the water?" Sara asked.
Amelia, searching around her canoe for a watch, said, "Uhh, roughly about two or three hours. We made our way into the Atlantic,"
Great, I thought to myself.
Had it really been three hours? Or two? Had time seriously gone by that fast?
"A few more yards . . ." Amelia informed us. "Maybe five more yards until we get to the 'what looks like an island'."
"I'm hungry," Sara complained after a few minutes with our friend Silence.
"You just ate, Sara." I explained to Sara. "We need to save our food."
"Fine, fine." she huffed.
We stopped paddling after a while, and decided to have the water drift us.
"I'm too tired to do anything," Amelia complained as well.
"Guys, really? Stop complaining. We could be eaten by a zombie right now." I snapped at them.
"Well, sorry. I realized we're not helping. But c'mon. Admit you're tired." Amelia said as she sat up.
"I'm tired, but we need to be smart here. Do not take that as an insult, guys." I confessed I was a little tired. Sara opened her mouth, but we all shook for a second.
We hit shore.
"We're actually on land! I can't believe it!" Sara exclaimed as she stepped out of her canoe.
"I can't believe it either, however, we need to figure out where we are." said Amelia. Sara and I nodded.
"I can just ask a villager," Sara spoke a bit quieter. She walked over to the forty - ish year old villager. "Excuse me, but do you know what island this is?"
"Oh, yes. This is a Falkland Island. It's an island in the Atlantic Ocean, and apart of UK. Are you new here?" the women informed her.
"Oh, um, two friends and I are staying here for a while," Sara said a bit nervous.
"It's a very nice island. I'm sure you'll have fun!"
