Chapter 1
I flex my fingers, still numb, as I look around. It was quiet a little too quiet. I stood up from behind the bush and walked over to the huge tree in the middle of the field. They should be here by now what is taking them so long?
I slowly eased my way into the tree and perched onto a sturdy branch a few feet off the ground. Once again I scanned my surroundings. I looked at my wristwatch. Quarter to 12. I heard a low growl in the distance. Then came the sound of feet. They neared the tree.
I looked down to see a pure white werewolf. I quietly climbed down and stood in front of it.
“Took you long enough Ralph.”
Ralph quickly changed into human form. His long slender body towered over me. His blue eyes looking over me.
“Where’s Ulric? He was supposed to get here before me.”
His jaw tightened.
“Speak of the devil.”
I pointed over in the direction of the moon. A pure black wolf came out from behind a group of trees and howled. Ralph laughed.
“Jeez Ulric always a show off.”
The wolf quickly took human form and Ulric stood there in front of me.
“Where did you go to?” He asked looking at me. I stuck my tongue out at him.
“None of your business that’s where.”
He did the same to me.
“Hey quit it you two or I’ll put you in time out.”
We both turned and stick our tongues out at Ralph.
“Let’s get home it’s getting late.”
Ulric and I looked at each other.
“Race You!"
We both yelled and took off changing into wolf form. The process was quick and painless and always left me feeling excited. Ulric was a giant compared to me. He was pure black just like his hair and his eyes always stayed that bright yellow no matter what form he was in.
Me on the other hand I was a deep white colored wolf same as my hair and my eyes were purple as human and wolf. I beat Ulric home by a few seconds and was already human when he arrived.
“You were always faster than me.”He said becoming human.
“Good then when we battle I know I won’t be the one getting killed.”
He playfully punched me in the arm and I tackled him into the dirt. We were muddy when Ralph showed up.
“Don’t bring that mud into my house you can hose off in the backyard.”
He then went inside.
“Ever get the feeling he’s treating us like kids?” Ulric asked.
“All the time. C’mon lets go wash off.” I stood and helped him to his feet. After we had both hosed off we stepped into the house.
“I hope you had the decency to strip off those wet clothes before coming into my house.” We heard Emily say. We both looked at each other and shrugged our shoulders. We both started to strip.
Then we walked to our room. I know it sounds weird but there’s a whole pack of wolves living here and it just so happens me and Ulric are the youngest.
There’s Ralph, the head of the pack, Emily, his wife, Maxine, she’s about 28 now, Maxine’s twin brother Leo, let’s see oh yeah there’s still Amber, Ralph’s sister, and then there’s my older brother Gabriel and his girlfriend Vivian. Then there’s me and Ulric, he’s older than me by 2 years, unfortunately.
The one bad thing about being one of the youngest is when mating season comes because we have to meet with other packs in order to mate, and the young ones go first. Usually though there are some that mate within one pack like Gabriel and Vivian. Ralph and Emily were from two different packs when they first met. This will be my first mating year and I know this sounds crazy but I want Ulric. We’ve known each other since we were little and lucky me he doesn’t have a mate yet.
“Luna?” Ulric said snapping me out of my thoughts.
“Yeah?” “You can bath first.” “Ok.” I walked over to our bathroom, each room has its own, and started to peel away the muddy clothing. I looked into the mirror. My purple eyes stared back at me and I saw a heart shaped face. Not to brag but I was really pretty among the humans.
I filled the tub with hot water and climbed in. After a few minutes of soaking I began to wash. That’s when I heard a soft knock on the door.
“Yeah?” “Luna it’s Maxine. May I come in?” “Sure the doors unlocked.” The handle turned and the door slowly opened. “I don’t mean to bother you but can I talk to you for a minute?” “Sure.” I replied.
Maxine may be 28 but she looked younger. She was shorter than me and had a nice head of strawberry blond hair that was cut to frame her heart shaped face.
“What do you want to talk about?” She blushed.
“The upcoming mating season.” I was quite for a minute.
“This is your first year right?” I nodded.
“But this is Ulric’s second and well you may have some tough competition.” Which means I have some tough opponents. “Who is it?” “Macey Rose.” She replied.
“Ah damn it I’m screwed.” Max laughed.
“You can take her.” She told me. Then she stood up and walked to the door.
“You may not know it but Ulric likes you to.” Then she left. I quickly finished my bath and slipped into one of Ulric’s shirts. I hadn’t done the laundry yet. When I walked out of the bathroom Ulric was spread across my bed playing the play station 3.
“You’re dirty and on my bed. Bad dog.” I swatted him playfully. “You were taking too long in the bath and I got bored.”
“Well I’m done now so go shower you smell like wet dog.” He paused his game and looked up at me.
“You look good in Slayer.” He said laughing. He stood up and gracefully walked into the bathroom how a guy his height can walk gracefully I have absolutely no clue. I lay down on my bed and started to play the game.
I must have dozed off after awhile because when I woke up the clock read 5 a.m. Great Luna good way to end the night. I looked over at Ulric’s bed where he lay still asleep. I didn’t have to start getting ready for school till 6 but since I had nothing better to do I went ahead and got dressed.
I quickly put my bra on and then a tank top and a nice black shirt to go with it.
Then I slipped into my favorite skinny jeans and slipped into my converse. By 6 everyone else started getting ready. I applied my eyeliner and lipstick as Ulric walked into the bathroom.
“Uh another day of boring school.” He said putting toothpaste on his toothbrush.
“Another B-day you mean.” I replied laughing.
“It’s a B-day?” “Yup which means we have all our classes together today.” He smiled. “Is that a bad thing?”
“Yes Ulric yes it is.” Then I left him to finish up.

Chapter 2
It wasn’t long after till we all started climbing into cars. Ralph, Emily, and Amber took the 2009 Nissan GTR while Gabriel, Vivian, Ulric and me took the Ford F-250. Maxine and Leo took the Jeep wrangler unlimited. Yeah we were kind of rich.
Gabriel pulled up right outside Clifford J. High. We both climbed out and started for the school.
“Lunar Adams.” I felt a hand on my back.
“Brad Stills.” I replied without looking.
“Have you finally given the thought to going out with me?”
I turned my eyes on him and saw him shiver.
“I have.” “So? What do you say?” I paused a moment.
Brad was the quarterback for the football team and he wasn’t too bad looking he had long blond hair that came down a little past his jaw, he also had bright blue eyes, but he was still human.
He was looking me over like I was his new play toy and I really hated it.
“No.” I said bluntly.
“No?” He asked stupidly.
“That’s what I said isn’t it?” My voice was cold and I knew it.
He just looked at me. He couldn’t say anything. I turned and started to walk away when someone grabbed my arm.
“Don’t you walk away from me.” Brad yelled at me. I turned getting ready to hit him. That’s when Ulric stepped in.
“That’s enough Brad.” Ulric said stepping between us.
“Ulric what are you doing?” I asked but he didn’t reply.
“Oh it’s Ulric Knight coming to the rescue.” Brad said taunting him.
“I suggest you leave Luna alone.” Ulric’s eyes narrowed. That’s when Brad backed away.
“I’ll remember this Knight.” Then he turned around and left. Ulric turned and looked at me. I was glaring at him.
“What?” He asked all innocent like.
“I didn’t need your help I had it under control.”
“Yeah it sure looked like you did.” He said sarcastically. I just sighed and walked away.
It was no use arguing since he always seemed to win. I walked to my class as fast as I could.
“Luna wait up.” Ulric said trying to catch up but I didn’t listen. I turned and walked into our math class.
“Luna please let me talk to you.” He asked sitting at his seat which unfortunately was right next to mine. I turned my eyes on him.
“What?” I asked through clenched teeth.
“I was only trying to help you out.” He said sighing. “Why do you always get this mad when someone tries to help you out?” I looked away.
“Because I’m not weak and I don’t want people to think I am.”
“I wasn’t trying to make you look weak.” He said. “I was just trying to help.”
“I didn’t need help.” I said brushing my hair out of my face. I always got into trouble for it because the teachers thought I always bleached it. They didn’t know it was natural.
Just then Mr. Gunner walked in. “Alright class please take your seats.” Everyone quickly sat down. Then Mr. Gunner started taking the role.
“Lunar Adams.” He called and everyone laughed. Apparently word had got around about the Brad thing.
“Here.” I replied. He quickly went through the rest of the role. As soon as he got to Ulric’s name everyone turned at looked at him. Yeah word had gotten around fast.
Why did he always have to stick up for me? It felt like forever before class ended. I had finally calmed down. We walked into the hallway and as soon as I did I was jumped.
“LLUUNNAA!” I looked up and saw Kayla. She was my best friend outside of the pack. She was a werewolf but from another pack. She was very pretty with her shoulder length brown hair and her honey colored eyes.
“Hey Kayla.” I said laughing. “How are you today?”
“I’m great!” She said shouting at me. Kayla always seemed to be in a good mood. There are a few werewolves that go to school here since most thought that since they had this wonderful gift they didn’t need to go to school.
“Um we better get to our next class or we’ll be late.” Ulric said.
“OMG Ulric I didn’t see you there.” She hugged him then came back and hugged me again.
“See you at the mating grounds.” Then she ran off down the hall.
“She is always hyper.” Ulric said shaking his head. We both walked off to out next class which was Ancient Mythology. I’ve always been in love with mythology. Ulric only took the class since it was an easy A.
We both got to class and sat down. Ulric again sat right next to me. I’m beginning to think the teachers have a funny sense of humor. I felt someone tap my shoulder and turned around to see Macey standing there.
“What do you want?” I said turning back in my seat.
“Oh nothing really. Only one thing.” She said and I could hear the smile in her voice. Macey was fairly pretty with her red hair and green eyes. She always got the guys human or werewolf.
“And what is that one thing?” I asked already knowing the answer. She leaned down and whispered into my ear.
“I want Ulric.” Then she turned on her heel and went to take her seat in front of Ulric. Why did I let her get under my skin? I mean she’s 19 but I turn 18 in a week so she’s not that much older than me. Ok she’s prettier and smarter and let’s face it she has more experience than I ever will but I will not give up on Ulric.
The rest of the day was a blur and by the end of it I was dying to get out into the woods. Tonight was the orange moon and it always felt magical to run under it. I saw Gabriel’s truck and ran to it.
“You’re here early.” I said climbing into the passenger seat.
“Yeah tonight’s the orange moon remember? So we're going up into the mountains.” He smiled at me his chocolate eyes filled with nothing but joy. Gabriel and me almost looked the same except he had his chocolate eyes and he has darker skin then I did.
“Where’s Ulric?” He asked looking past me.
“I don’t know I saw Macey pull him off to the side after class.” I said calmly. Gabriel just looked at me.
“What?” I glared.
“Nothing I just thought you would be pissed that she’s moving in on your man.” He said quietly.
“My man? Gabriel he’s not mine I don’t even think he likes me.”
“Luna I’m just trying to help.” He sighed.
“Well don’t I can take care of myself.” I leaned back into my seat just as Ulric climbed into the car.
“Sorry I’m late.” He said and closed the door.
“Well we better hurry so we can get to the mountains before nightfall.” Gabriel drove off and went straight for the mountains. It was about 7 by time we reached the mountains peeks.
“Alright everyone out and let’s roll!” Gabriel yelled jumping out of the car. I couldn’t help but smile when I saw him morph into an all white wolf. There are not many pure white wolves out there. Gabriel, Ralph and I are the only ones so far.
I jumped out of the truck and morphed. It felt great especially under the rising orange moon. I felt my paws on the earth and I extended my claws feeling the dirt under them. I heard Ulric howl and then everyone else joined in. I was the last to howl but it felt so great.
Everyone took off in different directions but Ulric followed me. We ran side by side at first then it turned into a race. By the time we reached our tree, as we call it, we were out of breath. We morphed into our human forms.
“That was great!” Ulric yelled at me.
I sighed and climbed into the tree. Ulric plopped down on the ground beneath me.
“Why not come up?” I asked.
“Eh I don’t like heights as much as you do.” He called up. I climbed back down and sat next to him. We both looked up at the moon.
“It’s pretty isn’t it?” I asked without looking at him. I heard him move a little as if he was uncomfortable.
“Luna…I talked to Macey earlier.” He said and I clenched my teeth.
“I don’t want to hear it.” I said trying to sound calm, which didn’t work out so well.
“Please listen to me.” I didn’t say anything. “Lulu?” I turned and looked at him. Lulu was my nickname he had given me when we were kids. He hadn’t called me that in so long.
“What?” He asked looking me over.
“You called me Lulu.” I said barely above a whisper.
“Yeah so?” I swear he can be so stupid sometimes.
“You haven’t called me Lulu in a very long time.” I replied and stood up. I miss the old times we used to share. The days when who got hurt and when it was time to go in was the only thing on our minds.
“Ulric can I ask you something?” I didn’t turn around as I asked the questions I had been dying to ask.
“Would you ever mate with me? I mean god that’s a stupid thing to say. I mean would you ever like…date me?” I can’t believe I asked that.
“Luna…I don’t know what to say.” I heard him stand up. I couldn’t dare look at him.
“Yes Luna I would.” I turned to look at him. That’s when he took the chance and kissed me.
I couldn’t believe it, he kissed me he actually kissed me. I was lost in his arms when we heard the howl.
It wasn’t the normal friendly howl. It sounded scared really scared. Ulric and I broke apart. That’s when we saw Leo run out from the woods. He quickly changed into human form.
“Luna. Ulric. We have to get out of here.” He fell down to the ground out cold.
“Luna you go find Ralph and the others I’ll stay with Leo.” I nodded and quickly changed into wolf. I ran into the woods as fast as I could.
“Ah looks like you came to me. Thank you for saving me the trouble.” I darted off to the side just as a sword was swung at me. Really? A sword who uses those anymore?
The man, I think, swung the sword again and I didn’t get out of the way in time and it cut my right eye. It was a deep gash and the blood flowed freely from it. The only real bad thing is when we are cut really badly it is hard for us to keep our wolf form.
I slowly started to morph into my human form. Damn it this is bad.
“Well I didn’t know you where this young.” The man stepped towards me as I slumped to the ground.
“Pretty white hair. Dazzling purple eyes. Your quite the catch.” I couldn’t do anything. Me, one of the strongest and fastest out of our pack, was defenseless against this human.
“Sleep tight…Luna.” He laughed a weird creepy laugh and stepped into the shadows. I fell to the ground and everything faded to black.

Chapter 3
I heard the voices of the others calling out to me.
I could feel the arms around me. I could feel the pain from my right eye.
“Luna…” Ah it hurt. I felt someone stitching up my eye. Since we’re werewolves we tend to not go to hospitals considering we heal pretty fast.
“Luna if you can hear me say something.” I tried. I opened my mouth but all that came out was a low moan.
“Well that’s a start.” It was Ralph I could hear him do that grunting sound he did when he was in a bad situation.
“What about her eye?” That was either Maxine or Emily.
“She’ll be blind and she’ll also have a nice little scar but other than that she’s fine.” I heard everyone sigh.
“What attacked her though that’s the real question.” Everyone was quiet.
“H…hum…man...” I said very slowly.
“Human?” I tried to nod but it hurt too badly so I just moaned.
“She said that a human did this.”
“Is that even possible?”
“I don’t know but she needs to sleep. Ulric take her to your room.” I felt arms go around me and I moaned again as I was picked up. I was then laid down on my bed then covered up.
“Luna I’m so sorry.” I heard him say then I heard the door close.
“I shouldn’t have let you go out there alone. I’m so stupid.” He kept on ranting and I just listened. After awhile he crawled into bed next to me.
“I’m so sorry.” I poked his side as best as I could.
“Do…don’t b…be sorry.” I managed to say. “It’s…not your…fault.” It hurt to speak and I guess Ulric realized.
“Don’t talk.” He told me and hugged me. I fell asleep in his warm arms.
The next morning went by fast. It was a normal Saturday morning. I was up and doing my normal things. I avoided all mirrors if at all possible because I had already seen the scar that ran from the right side of my forehead down to the left side of my jaw. Not to mention I had lost the sight in my right eye. Yeah my pretty purple eye was now a misty blue.
I will find whoever did this and I will make them pay. Everyone else is acting like nothing happened but I was pissed. I mean I could’ve died and what was with that man? How did he know my name? All these questions were running through my mind.
“Lunar.” I jumped and spilled my cup of orange juice.
“Damn it.” I said quickly trying to pick up the broken glass.
“Watch your mouth young lady.” It was Emily.
“Sorry Em.” I said wiping up the juice.
“Get your jacket we’re going to the mall.” I stood straight up and looked at her.
“Are you crazy? I’m not going out there with this scar on my face.” She just laughed.
“It suits you Lunar. It means you’re strong. Now get your jacket and let’s go.” She smiled that evil smile of hers and walked off. I sighed and grabbed my jacket. I walked out the front door into the cold October wind. My white hair whipping behind me as I climbed into Emily’s car.
“Now Lunar the reason I’m taking you to the mall is because you deserve it. Plus you need new clothes.” She said looking at my All Time Low shirt and skinny jeans.
“What’s wrong with my clothes?” She didn’t reply instead she just turned on the radio.
It took us 20 minutes to get to the mall. She just had to choose the biggest mall in all of Wyoming. Really is she trying to show me off? She found a parking space near the entrance. We both climbed out and started towards the building.
“What store do you want to hit first?” Emily asked looking at me.
“Hot Topic.” She laughed.
“I knew you were going to say that.” She held open the door for me.
“Then why did you ask?” She laughed again.
“You know Lunar I don’t know what I was thinking.” We walked to hot topic. I have always loved this store. Don’t get me wrong I like other stores to but this one has the most band tee-shirts.
“You go look around for a little.” She told me and walked around the store. I saw a few shirts that I had been dying to have. I grabbed an All Time Low shirt and The Maine. Ah it felt good to shop. I also saw a NeverShoutNever! shirt and got that one to. Then I grabbed a few pairs of skinny jeans, one red one blue and two black. I then walked over to Emily.
“Is that it?” I nodded my head and we both walked over to the cashier. The man looked us over and then rang up our stuff, which cost about $110.
We shopped at a few more stores before finally heading home.
“Thanks Em I really needed that.” I smiled as I looked through all my bags.
“Good I’m glad you had fun Lunar.” She seemed happy herself. We pulled into our driveway and I jumped out, grabbed my bags, and ran into the house right up to my room. I had so many new clothes to choose from.
Which ones shall I wear to school Monday? I finally decided on the NeverShoutNever! shirt and the blue skinny jeans. I also picked up the eye patch that Emily picked out. It was black and it had little hot pink hearts and skulls on it. I put it over my eye and looked into the mirror.
Well it did nothing to hide the scar but at least it hid my eye.
“Lunar I’m going to get something for dinner do you want anything specific?” I heard Emily yell from downstairs.
“Um how ‘bout some chicken?” I called down.
“Ok I’ll be back soon then.” I heard the door open then close. I went back into my room and saw Ulric lying on his bed.
“How did you get in here?”
“Through the window.” He stood up gracefully and walked over to me.
“How are you feeling today?” Ulric asked touching my eye patch.
“I’m doing just great.” I replied and backed away leaving him to stand there.
“Luna why hide it?” He asked regret clear as day in his eyes.
“Because I don’t like it.” I went back over to my bed and started to put my new clothes away.
“I do.” I heard him whisper. I turned and looked at him.
“What?”
“I said I do. I like it Luna I mean yeah your pretty purple eye is gone but the misty blue is just as pretty and it suits you.” Ulric looked away and studied the ground which seemed to be a little more interesting than me right now.
I watched him. I should be pissed at him since it was him that sent me off on my own. But how could I be? I mean he was super cute, no wait scratch that, he was hot.
“Ulric, do you want to go for a run?” He looked at me and nodded. We both ran for the woods, we were pretty fast runners even as humans, but I was still faster.
“Meet you at our tree?” He asked panting.
“Yup.” I replied and we both changed. It felt great, though I knew Ralph and Emily might kill me.
I ran as fast as I could and beat Ulric there. While I waited I walked over to the stream and began drinking. When I had finished and the water had stilled I was able to see my reflection. My right eye was still the same misty blue and the scar was even bigger on me in wolf form.
I heard Ulric come up behind me and I quickly changed into human form. He pawed my leg and licked my neck.
“Ulric stop that tickles.” I said and tried to playfully push him away but he was to strong. I heard him cackle which sounded weird in his wolf form. His skin rippled as he changed into his human form.
At least he was lighter now but the fact that he was still on top of me made me blush. He must have noticed because he just laughed and rolled off of me.
“You’re cute when you blush.” Ulric laughed even harder. So I punched him in his arm.
“Ow that hurt Luna.” He said rubbing his arm and still laughing.
“Good it was supposed to.” I stood up and ran to the tree with Ulric right on my heels. I climbed into the tree.
“That’s not fair you know I don’t like heights.” I stuck my tongue out at him.
“Then I know I’m safe up here.” He laughed and tried to climb up only to fall back down. I looked around and saw that it was getting dark.
“Ulric I think we should go back it’s getting dark.”
“Aw but I just got up here.” I saw him one branch below me.
“Please Ulric that guy might still be out here.” I looked at him and he must have seen the fear in my eyes.
“Ok let’s get going Luna I want you to run in front of me that way I can keep an eye on you.” I nodded and climbed down from the tree. As soon as my feet hit the ground I was already in wolf form. I ran and I mean ran. I don’t think I’ve ever run that fast before. I heard Ulric behind me as we came to the house. That’s one of the ups about living in the middle of the woods away from people is that we can run right into the house in our wolf forms.
Ulric and I went straight to the kitchen. Changing forms always left us feeling very hungry. I saw the KFC container on the counter with a note from Emily.
We all went over to Steven’s. Will be back Thursday night. Enjoy the chicken. Love Emily.
“Well the others went over to Steven’s and they won’t be back till Thursday.” I said grabbing a plate.
“Really? Wow wonder why they left on such short notice?”
“I don’t know but at least it will be quiet around here.” I grabbed out four pieces of chicken and put them on my plate. Great they had left me all alone with Ulric and Thursday was the start of mating season.
Geez what were they thinking? I thought Emily and Ralph were supposed to be like my parents? Some parents they were.
“So what do you want to do tonight?” Ulric asked making me drop my chicken on the floor.
“Geez Luna wake up and smell the bacon.” Ulric said laughing. He bent over and picked up the chicken.
“I’ll just throw this away.” Om my god what was wrong with me? I started smacking myself in the forehead.
“Luna are you ok?”
“Um yeah just peachy.” I laughed nervously. “How about a movie?”
“Sounds good.” He smiled at me. That cute smile of his.
“So what do you want to watch?” I asked walking over to the DVD shelf.
“How about something scary?” I looked through our scary movies. Since Ulric and I are the only horror movie lovers we had our own shelf with nothing but horror movies.
“Um how about Chucky?” I asked him.
“Nah we watched that last week.”
“Then what about…Dead Silence?”
“Nope.” Geez picky much?
“There’s Friday the 13th?”
“What about Nightmare on Elm Street?” I picked the one with Johnny Depp. I popped it into the DVD player and settled onto the couch.
Ulric put his arm around me and pulled me closer. I just giggled and snuggled up to him. He was so warm. I started dozing off at the part where Johnny Depp died and by time the movie was over I had fallen asleep in Ulric’s arms yet again.
