The vampire girlfriend
Chapter 1
“Hey, Derrick,” said Ashanti. Ashanti has long dark brown hair and fairly tan skin, with pale green eyes. She’s not the tallest girl at school; she’s only 5 feet tall. Derrick on the other hand has slightly darker skin than Ashanti and is taller than her coming to about 6 ft. tall. He has short, slightly curly jet black hair. They have been friends for two years. They’re both juniors at Trinity High in Miami, Florida. Derrick is on the football team and Ashanti is head cheerleader. She has had a crush on Derrick since freshman year but won’t tell him out of fear that he doesn’t feel the same. But what she doesn’t know is that Derrick does in fact like her. He looked her up and down and finally said “What’s up Ash?” She replied “Nothing much so how was your summer?” “It was kind of boring.” Derrick said. Ashanti lightly put her hand on his arm which made him pause. She said “Aww. You poor thing.” They both laughed at her attempt at baby talk. When they finally calmed down Ashanti asked “What class do you have first period?” Derrick looked at his schedule and said “I have gym. Did you hear that we have a game against the Eagles next Friday? We’ve only been in school one week, and they’re already trying to make up play against the 3rd best football team in high school history.” Ashanti laughed at this and said “I think you’re over exaggerating a little bit, but yea I did hear about that, and for the next few days the football players and cheerleaders have to wear their uniforms to gym class and practice.” Derrick didn’t say anything. All he could do was think about how beautiful he thought Ashanti was. When the first bell rang, Ashanti grabbed Derrick’s hand pulling him toward the gym while saying “C’mon, I don’t wanna be late.” When they reached the gym, they went their separate ways. Derrick walked toward the boys’ locker room and Ashanti walked to the girls. The football team uniform: red and blue jersey and blue shorts. Derrick had the number “16” under his last name, Wells, on the back of his jersey. The cheerleaders’ uniforms: also red and blue. The skirts were blue with red trim on the bottom. The tops came just above their bellybuttons and had the word “LIONS” printed across them in white, block letters. Derrick came out before Ashanti and decided to wait for her by the locker room door. When she came out, she tripped. Luckily Derrick was right there and caught her. His left hand ended up on her back and his right hand on her side. Derrick asked, “You Okay Ash?” trying not to sound nervous or stutter her words but failing miserably, she said “Y-Yeah, I’m-I’m fine.” Derrick realized the way her voice sounded and knew she was nervous, hell he was nervous too. They looked into each others eyes. All Derrick was thinking was: Man, I want to kiss her. So he tried. But when he leaned down to kiss her, Ashanti got scared. “Um, maybe we should get to class.” Derrick let her go and got to class. After a few more classes, school was finally over. Ashanti and Derrick lived across the street from each other a few blocks from the school. They decided to go to Derrick’s house to watch a few movies. Since it was Friday, they didn’t have a curfew so Ashanti could be home whenever she wanted but decided not to stay out too late. When they were two blocks from Derrick’s house, Ashanti called her mom, Tricia, “Hey mom, I’m goin’ over to Derrick’s house. I’ll be home at 10.” “’Kay hun, just don’t be late.” “’Kay mom love you bye.” She hung up her phone and started walking again. After a few minutes of silence Ashanti couldn’t take it anymore, she decided to just tell Derrick the truth to get the weight off of her shoulders. If he felt the same way that’s great, but then she started thinking: What if he doesn’t? I’d be so embarrassed and that would ruin our friendship. Derrick noticed her hesitation and the worried expression on her face. He stood in front of her and asked, “What’s wrong Ash?” She looked away from him and simply said, “Nothing.” Her reply was so soft that Derrick would have missed it if he weren’t standing so close. He softly said “Ash--” She interrupted him and said “Just drop it, Derrick.” She stepped around him and started walking again leaving him behind. He did what she wanted and dropped it for the time being. He turned and jogged to catch up with her. They continued walking to his house.
Chapter 2
ONCE THEY GOT TO DERRICK'S HOUSE THEY WENT TO HIS ROOM. THEY SAT ON HIS BED AND WATCHED A FEW SCARY MOVIES. DERRICK WAS LYING ON HIS BACK WITH HIS ARM ELEVATING HIS HEAD. ASHANTI WAS LYING BESIDE HIM, WITH HER ARM WRAPPED AROUND HIS STOMACH, HER HEAD RESTING ON HIS CHEST. WHENEVER A SCARY PART CAME UP, SHE WOULD TURN HER HEAD SO HER EYES WERE COVERD. HE CHUCKLED AND ASKED "ARE YOU OK?" ASHANTI REPLIED "YEAH IM FINE. I JUST DON’T LIKE SCARY MOVIES ALL THAT MUCH." SO DERRICK TURNED THE MOVIE OFF AND STARTED TO TICKLE HER TO MAKE HER FEEL BETTER. THEY BOTH STARTED LAUGHING. WHEN THEY SOBERED FROM ALL THE LAUGHTER, SHE LOOKED HIM IN HIS BROWN EYES AND BEFORE SHE COULD STOP THE WORDS FROM SLIPPING OUT SHE SAID, “I LOVE YOU.” WHEN SHE SAW THE LOOK ON HIS FACE, SHE FELT EMBARRASED. SHE WIGGLED FROM UNDER HIM AND GOT OFF THE BED AND TURNED HER BACK TO DERRICK. THEN, IN A SHAKY VOICE, SHE SAID “I’M SORRY. I NEVER SHOULD HAVE SAID THAT.” SHE HEARED HIM GET OFF OF THE BED AND SUDDENLY SHE FELT HIS ARMS GO AROUND HER WAIST. SHE TENSED UP BUT THEN SHE RELAXED AGAINST HIM. DERRICK TURNED HER IN HIS ARMS. SHE WOULDN’T LOOK AT HIM BECAUSE SHE WAS AFRAID HE WOULD SEE THE FEAR IN HER EYES. DERRICK LIFTED HER CHIN WITH HIS FINGER SO SHE WOULD LOOK AT HIM. HER PALE GREEN EYES WERE SHINING BECAUSE OF ALL THE CRYING. DERRICK LEANED IN TO KISS HER AND HER BREATH CAUGHT. BEFORE DERRICK COULD TOUCH HIS LIPS TO HERS, ASHANTI’S PHONE VIBRATED. SHE LOOKED AT THE NUMBER IN CONFUSION. SHE HESITATED FOR A MOMENT, THEN DECIDED TO ANSWER THE CALL. SHE HEARD A GUY’S VOICE AT THE OTHER END, BUT DIDN’T RECOGNIZE IT. HE SAID, "HEY HOT STUFF. HOW YOU DOIN’?" THE VOICE SOUNDED LIKE A DEEP WHISPER. SHE WAS SCARED BECAUSE SHE DIDN’T KNOW WHO IT WAS. SHE REPLIED IN A FRANTIC VOICE, "WHO IS THIS? HOW’D YOU GET THIS NUMBER?" THEN SHE FROZE BECAUSE SHE HEARD THE NAME, THE NAME THAT SENT A CHILL DOWN HER SPINE, “DRAKE.” THEN ALL SHE HEARD WAS BREATHING AT THE OTHER END AND A SUDDEN CLICK. SHE QUICKLY CLOSED HER PHONE AND THREW IT ON THE BED AND KEPT STARING AT IT. DERRICK LOOKED AT HER AND ASKED "ARE YOU OKAY? WHO WAS THAT?" SHE QUICKLY TURNED AROUND AND JUS STARED AT HIM, ANGER FLASHING IN HER EYES "DON’T YOU THINK IF I KNEW WHO IT WAS, I WOULDN’T HAVE ASKED?!?!” DERRICK JUST STOOD THERE AND STARED AT HER. HE WAS SHOCKED AT HER OUTBURST. WHEN HE DIDN’T SAY ANYTHIN SHE WHISPERD, “I HAVE TO GO.” SHE HEADED FOR THE DOOR AND DIDN’T STOP WHEN SHE HEARD DERRICK’S VOICE. HE STARTED “WAI--” BUT BEFORE HE COULD SAY WHAT HE WANTED SHE WAS OUT THE DOOR. DERRICK WAS STILL STUNNED AT WHAT SHE SAID. SHE WAS USUALLY CALM AND NEVER YELLED AT ANYONE. HE SNAPPED OUT OF HIS DAZE WHEN HE HEARD THE FRONT DOOR SLAM. THINKING FAST, DERRICK GRABBED HIS JACKET AND RUSHED OUT THE DOOR TO CATCH UP WITH THE GIRL HE LOVES.
Chapter 3
AFTER ASHANTI LEFT DERRICK’S HOUSE SHE DECIDED NOT TO GO HOME. SHE DIDN’T HAVE TO BE HOME ‘TILL 10 AND IT WAS ONLY 7: 30. SINCE IT WAS AFTER SCHOOL HOURS SHE DECIDED TO GO TO THE SCHOOL’S FOOTBALL FEILD SO SHE COULD THINK ABOUT WHAT JUST HAPPENED WITH DERRICK. WHEN SHE GOT THERE SHE SAT ON THE BLEACHERS. ALL KINDS OF NEGATIVE THOUGHTS CROSSED ASHANTI’S MIND BUT ONE THING CAME LOUDER AND CLEARER THAN ANYTHING ELSE: WHY WOULD YOU TELL HIM YOU LOVE HIM ASHANTI?!? WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?!?! OF ALL THE OTHER THINGS YOU COULD HAVE SAID YOU SAY THAT!?! STUPID!!! STUPID!!! SSTUUPIID!!! SUDDENLY SHE HEARD FOOTSTEPS AND HOPED IT WASN’T WHO SHE THOUGHT IT WOULD BE, BUT IT WAS. DERRICK. THEY STARED AT EACH OTHER BEFORE HE CAME TO SIT WITH HER. THEY SAT IN SILENCE FOR WHAT FELT LIKE FOREVER TO ASHANTI. FINALLY DERRICK BROKE THE SILENCE. “ASH, I--” HE STARTED BUT WAS INTERUPTED, “NO, DERRICK, DON’T TELL ME. I KNOW WHAT YOU’RE GONNA SAY. YOU’RE GONNA TELL ME THAT YOU DON’T FEEL THAT WAY ABOUT ME. YOU’RE GONNA SAY THAT WE SHOULD JUST BE FRIENDS. I’VE HAD MY HEART BROKEN BEFORE; I DON’T NEED IT BROKEN AGAIN.” WITH THAT SAID SHE GOT UP AND TRIED TO WALK AWAY ONLY TO FEEL DERRICK’S HAND CATCH HER WRIST. SHE CLOSED HER EYES AND SAID IN A WHISPER “DERRICK, PLEASE DON’T DO THIS.” HE GOT UP AND STOOD INFRONT OF HER AND SAID, “ASH LOOK AT ME.” HESITANTLY SHE LOOKED AT HIM. HE CONTINUED, “JUST BECAUSE YOU’VE HAD YOUR HEART BROKEN BY OTHER GUYS, DOESN’T MEAN I’LL DO THE SAME. I’D BE LYING IF I SAID THAT I DIDN’T LOVE YOU. I LOVE HAVING YOU AS A FRIEND BUT I’VE HAD FEELINGS FOR YOU FOR TWO YEARS. I LOVE YOU ASHANTI AND I WOULD NEVER HURT YOU.” BY THE TIME HE GOT HIS FEELINGS OUT, ASHANTI WAS CRYING. DERRICK WIPED THE TEARS FROM HER EYES. ALL SHE COULD SAY WAS, “DERRICK IM SO SORRY I DON’T KNOW WHAT’S WRONG WITH ME. ONE MINUTE IM PERFECTLY FINE, THEN THE NEXT I JUST GET SO MAD. I’M SORRY.” DERRICK PUT HIS ARMS AROUND HER AND INSTINCTIVELY ASHANTI PUT HER ARMS AROUND DERRICK’S NECK. DERRICK SAID, “IT’S OKAY. DON’T CRY, I HATE SEEING YOU LIKE THIS.” BUT IT WASN’T OKAY. THERE WAS SOMETHING DERRICK DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT ASHANTI, NOT EVEN ASHANTI KNOW THIS HERSELF….NOT YET ANYWAY. WHAT THEY DIDN’T KNO IS THAT ASHANTI IS…
A FLEDGLING. A YOUNG VAMPIRE.
Chapter 4
WHEN ASHANTI GOT HOME THAT NIGHT, SHE HAD A HUGE GOOFY GRIN ON HER FACE. HER MOM WAS IN THE LIVINGROOM WATCHING NCIS. WHEN SHE HEARD THE DOOR CLOSE, SHE TURNED AND SAW HER DAUGHTER STANDING THERE LOOKING GIDDY. “WHAT’S GOT YOU ON CLOUD NINE?” ASHANTI’S SMILE JUST GREW BIGGER WHEN SHE FINALLY SAID IN A SING SONG VOICE, “OH, NOTHING. IT’S JUST A BEAUTIFUL DAY. THE FLOWERS ARE BLOOMING, THE STARS ARE SHINING BRIGHT!” WHEN TRICIA DIDN’T SAY ANYTHING MORE, ASHANTI WENT UP TO HER ROOM. AFTER SHE GOT HER PAJAMAS ON, SHE SAW THAT SHE HAD A TEXT FROM DERRICK. SHE OPENED AND READ IT: HEYY, BEAUTIFUL. U WANNA HNG OUT 2MORROW? SHE QUICKLY REPLIED BACK: SURE, THT SNDS GR8. WHEN HE DIDN’T TEXT BACK, SHE REALIZED HOW TIRED SHE WAS. SHE GLANCED OVER AT HER ALARM CLOCK AND SAW THAT IT WAS ONLY 9:50. SHE YAWNED, PUT HER PHONE ON HER BEDSIDE TABLE AND WENT TO SLEEP. THAT DIDN’T LAST LONG BECAUSE AT 11:00 SHE WOKE UP WITH A SEARING PAIN IN HER SKULL AND GUMS. THE PAIN WAS SO INTENCE THAT ALL SHE COULD DO WAS SCREAM. “AAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!” SHE SLOWLY GOT OUT OF BED AND LOOKED IN HER MIRROR TO SEE WHAT WAS WRONG WITH HER MOUTH. WHEN SHE OPENED IT, SHE SAW TWO ABNORMALLY SHARP TEETH BULGING FROM HER GUMS. FREAKED OUT, SHE YELLED, “MAMMA!!!” HER MOM QUICKLY RAN TO HER ROOM. “WHA--,” SHE STARTED, BUT WHEN SHE ASHANTI’S MOUTH SHE BROKE INTO A MASSIVE GRIN AND SAID, “OH MY GOD HONNEY. YOUR FANGS FINALLY CAME IN.” ASHANTI LOOKED AT HER MOTHER WITH CONFUSION, “WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? MA, WHAT’S GOING ON?” BUT THE LITTLE FACT THAT SHE WAS A BIT SCARED TO CLOSE HER MOUTH BECAUSE OF HER FANGS, HER WORDS SOUNDED MORE LIKE: “WAR HU YAKIN AHOUT? HA, WHAS GON ON?” TRICIA’S SMILE SLOWLY STARTED TO FADE. “SWEETHEART, YOU SHOULD SIT DOWN FOR THIS.” ASHANTI SAT ON HER BED, WAITHING FOR HER MOTHER TO FINISH. “YOU’RE A VAMPIRE, WELL A FLEDGLING VAMPIRE.” ASHANTI JUST LOOKED AT HER MOTHER LIKE SHE WAS CRAZIEST PERSON IN THE WORLD. WHEN SHE HAD THE GUTS TO FINALLY CLOSE HER MOUTH SHE SAID, “THAT’S IMPOSSIBLE, VAMPIRES DON’T EXIST.” “WELL THAT’S NOT COMPLETELY TRUE. YOU’RE ONE, AND MY WHOLE SIDE OF THE FAMILY WERE VAMPIRES.” TRICIA SAID, AND AS AN ATTEMPT TO MAKE HER DAUGHTER BELIEVE HER, SHE RETRACTED HER FANGS. ASHANTI JUMPED IN SURPRISE ALTHOUGH SHE DIDN’T KNOW WHY, CONSIDERING SHE HAD A PAIR OF HER OWN. “OK, SO SAY WE ARE VAMPIRES, WHAT COMES WITH THAT?” HER MOTHER LOOKED AT HER NERVOUSLY; SHE DIDN’T WANT HER DAUGHTER TO HATE HER FOR MAKING HER SOME KIND OF MONSTER. “MOM, I COULD NEVER HATE YOU.” ASHANTI SAID THEN PAUSED WHEN SHE REALIZED THAT HER MOTHER DIDN’T SAY ANYTHING. THEY LOOKED AT EACH OTHER WIDE EYED. TRICIA’S SMILE RETURNED, “WELL, YOU JUST FOUND OUT ONE OF OUR POWERS.” ASHANTI HESITATED FOR A MINUTE, THEN SAID “ONE? WHAT ARE THE OTHERS?” TRICIA WENT TO SIT BESIDE HER CURIOUS AND FRIGHTENED CHILD. “WELL OTHER THAN THE MIND READING AND HAVING A BIT OF A TEMPER, WE CAN SEE PERFECTLY IN THE DARK, WE’RE REALLY FAST, SUPER STRONG, OUR HEARING IS ENHANCED…AND--” “MA, I CAN READ YOUR MIND, I KNOW SOMETHINGS WRONG.” ASHANTI SAID. TRICIA LOOKED AWAY FROM HER AND SAID, “WELL WHAT IM ABOUT TO TELL YOU DOESN’T REALLY COUNT AS A POWER AND IT MAY SCARE YOU BUT YOU SHOULD KNOW.” SHE LOOKED AT HER DAUGHTER. “WE HAVE TO DRINK BLOOD TO SURVIVE; BUT AS YOU GET OLDER YOU’LL BE ABLE TO CONTROL IT ALONG WITH THE ANGER.” “W-W-WHAT?” ASHANTI LOOKED AT HER MOM WITH SHOCK IN HER EYES. I HAVE TO DRINK BLOOD? WHAT ABOUT FOOD? SHE THOUGHT, TOO FRIGHTENED TO TALK. HER MOTHER THOUGHT: YES, AND YOU CAN STILL EAT FOOD BUT YOU WILL NEED BLOOD EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE. AND YOU CAN’T TELL ANYONE. ASHANTI’S BREATH QUICKEND WITH NERVES. NOT EVEN DERRICK? TRICIA: NOT EVEN DERRICK. “NOW, IT’S 11:30 AND YOU NEED YOUR REST.” SHE SAID OUT LOUD. SHE WENT TO THE DOOR AND TURNED OFF THE LIGHT. “NIGHT, HUN.” SHE SAID THEN LEFT. ASHANTI WAS TRYING TO SORT OUT EVERYTHING THAT HER MOTHER HAS TOLD HER. I’M A VAMPIRE, WELL AT LEAST THAT EXPLAINS MY RAGING MADNESS. I HAVE ALL THESE COOL POWERS; WELL EXEPT THE WHOLE BLOOD THING. MAYBE I COULD GET USED TO THIS. WITH THAT LAST SENTENCE AS THE ONLY POSSITIVE THOUGHT IN HER HEAD, ASHANTI WENT TO SLEEP.
Chapter 5
AROUND MIDNIGHT ASHANTI HEARD HER PHONE VIBRATE, BLINDLY SHE REACHED FOR IT BUT ONLY TO ACCOMPLISH KNOCKING IT TO THE FLOOR. “UGH!!” SHE ROLLED OFF HER BED TO HER PHONE, PICKED IT UP AND LOOKED AT THE NUMBER. ANGER IMMEDIATELY TOOK OVER WHEN SHE SAW THE NUMBER: 804-238-8387. DRAKE. SHE OPENED THE MESSAGE AND READ IT: I HVE UR LIL BF. IF U WNT HIM BCK U NEED 2 CME 2 THE WOODS. NOW!!! THIS MESSAGE DID NOTHING TO CALM HER ANGER; IT ONLY INTENSIFIED. SHE JUMPED UP, THREW ON SOME CLOTHES AND HURRIED OUT THE DOOR. LUCKILY HER MOM WAS ASLEEP.
Chapter 6
As she was headed to the woods all she kept thinking was: OMG. I hope Derrick is okay. Suddenly her thought went from sympathy to flat out anger. I am going to kill Drake!! I’m gonna rip his fucking head off!! Ashanti stopped walking because that thought startled her. “What the fuck is wrong with me?” she whispered. She continued walking. Once she got to the woods, she started looking for Derrick. She called his name once, no answer. She tried again a little louder, “Derrick,” For a second, she heard nothing then a muffled sound, like someone was talking into a pillow. Ashanti began walking toward the noise. As she went further into the woods, the sound got louder and louder. She finally got to the sound and saw that it was Derrick. “Oh my god,” Was all she could say. She took the tape off of Derrick’s mouth. He said “Ash? How did u know I was here?” “How do you think? That bastard told me. Are you okay?” She had finally got what she thought were tight ropes from around his body with her vampire strength. He looked at her then back at the broken chains. “How did you do that?” She just looked at him. “What do you mean?” “Well you just broke chains with your bare hands.” She glanced from the chains to Derrick. “Oh, well, umm, about that. I’m--” But she was interrupted “Well, well, well, look what we’ve got here.” Ashanti turned around to see Drake standing there with a smug smile on his face. She started walking towards him yelling and cussing him out. “You bastard. You fucking piece of shit. What the hell is wrong with you?” Once she got to him, she pushed him back with what she thought was a little bit of force. But when she pushed him he went flying 10 feet backwards into a tree. She ran to him with her super speed. When Drake tried to get up she punched him in the face. She backed up and closed her eyes to try and calm herself down. Drake took that as an advantage. “Aww the little fledgling doesn’t have the guts to finish the job, huh? Yea I know what you are.” Ashanti’s eye shot open. Even though Drake’s face hurt and was bloody from the force of the punch, he had that smug look. That and what he said next sent Ashanti over the edge. “That’s right, we both know you’re a blood sucking monster. You and the rest of your vampire family. They were easy kills…especially your mother. Oh, she was strong don’t get me wrong; she put up quite a fight. But I caught her off guard and drained her. Her blood was pretty delicious and I’m sure yours will be too.” As he was saying this he was standing up. Now he was face to face with Ashanti. Ashanti was so angry that she didn’t even feel her fangs retract, and her eyes were blood red. Drake snickered, “There we go, I was waiting for this girl to show up. Did you know your pretty hot when your mad?” He leaned in and whispered in her ear, “Do you think you can be as strong as your mother?” She snapped. Catching Drake off guard, she grabbed his neck and bit him. He yelped in pain, after a few seconds his pleads for mercy was over. Drake was dead. She let his motionless body fall to the ground and wiped the blood off of her mouth. “Ashanti?” She heard Derrick whisper. She hadn’t realized he was standing behind her watching the whole thing. She turned to face him but when he saw her eyes, he flinched back. She realized her eyes were still red. A few moments later, her eyes where back to their normal pale green. “Derrick, I--” but he interrupted her, “What the hell are you?” As he was saying this he was backing away from her. Ashanti, taking another step toward Derrick, said, “Derrick, please let me explain.” She felt tears sting her eyes. “No, stay the hell away from me.” After he said this, he turned around and walked away. Those words were hard for Ashanti to hear, but even harder for him to say. When he was out of sigh she walked home crying thinking of everything that has gone wrong in her life.
Chapter 7
For the next few months Derrick and Ashanti didn’t talk. Ashanti has called Derrick’s phone only to get his voicemail. The last time she called, she left a message: hey Derrick, it’s me. Umm…about what happened in the woods, honestly I don’t know what happened, Drake just made me so mad and I…look, yes, I’m a vampire and I understand if you never want to see me or talk to me again and I know that you owe me nothing but I would appreciate it if you didn’t tell anyone. I guess that’s it, so, bye. She hung up her phone and started to cry. She cried for everything: she cried for her dead mother, cried for Derrick and, no matter how much it angered her, she cried for Drake. If Drake hadn’t of taken him, Derrick wouldn’t have seen me like that. But I am defiantly not sad that he’s dead. My life will be so much better without him. She got out of bed, deciding that she didn’t want to lie around all day, and showered. When she finished getting dressed, she heard someone knock on the front door. She slowly went downstairs and opened the door. She was shocked to see the person standing on the porch. The one person she thought she’d never see or talk to again. Derrick. Feeling as uncomfortable as Ashanti, Derrick stuttered his words, “Umm, uhh…I just thought we should talk.” Ashanti nodded her head, grabbed his hand and said, “C’mon, let’s go to my room.” When they got to Ashanti’s room, Derrick got right to the point, “So, you’re a vampire, aren’t they supposed to have like these cool powers?” Ashanti looked at him and smiled. “Yea, I guess. My mom said that I could read minds. Other than that, we’re really fast, super strong, our hearing is exceptional and…” she looked down at her shoes embarrassed by her last power. Finally she says, “…and I can see the future, I just found that out an hour ago.” She hesitantly looked up at him and saw that he was coming closer to her. When he was inches from her he said, “What did you see?” She hesitated to tell him the truth. She looked him straight in his eyes and said, “I saw us. It was 10 years from now and we were married and we—we…” Tears were running down her cheeks now. “…We had a little girl.” At first Derrick didn’t say anything and his expression was blank, then a smile slowly crept across his face. He took her by the waist and hugged her tight. Ashanti cried harder because she felt love and security in his arms. Then Derrick pulled back and looked at her, hesitating to ask what he really wanted to know. “Ash…umm, do you, uh, have to drink blood to live?” Ashanti looked away from him and whispered, “Yea, human blood.” She looked at him, “But Derrick, you have to know that I would never hurt you.” She said in a frantic voice. Derrick just looked at her with sad eyes. He finally said, “I love you, Ashanti.” Without letting her reply, he bent and kissed her. She stiffened, but when she felt Derrick’s tongue on her bottom lip, she opened her mouth and accepted his familiar kiss. She snaked her arms up around Derrick’s neck. Considering Ashanti was a fledgling, her emotions were kind of scattered. She pressed herself up against Derrick, deepening the kiss. Derrick moaned and let his hands slip down to cup her butt. Ashanti pushed Derrick onto the bed. When she saw his eyes, she noticed that they were glazed over with lust. She got on top of him, straddling him. She started to rock herself against his hardness. Derrick groaned and grabbed her hips and dug his fingers in. Ashanti moaned and leaned over to kiss Derrick. She kissed him long and hard. Then without thinking she made a trail of gentle kisses along his cheek to his neck. This only made Derrick groan louder. She began to suck on his neck, and then she felt her fangs retract. With her vampire speed she jumped off the bed and away from Derrick. She was still facing Derrick but had her hands covering her face. He got up and went to her, gently pulling her hands from her face. He saw that her fangs were fully retracted and her eyes were blood red, one of the indicators that she needed human blood.
Chapter 8
“Ash, how long has it been since you had blood?” She was shocked to see how calm Derrick was being considering she could attack him at any moment, which she wouldn’t. She said in a soft voice, “Drake.” Anger flashed in his features at the very mention of his name because of everything he put them through. As quickly as the anger came, it went away. He took her in his arms and said in a gentle voice, “Baby, do you need my blood?” She looked at him in utter shock. “Der--,” she started, but was interrupted. “No Ash, don’t deny it. I know you are weak, so I want you can take my blood to get stronger.” She hesitated, fearful of what she had to tell him next. “Derrick if I bite you you’ll be turned into a vampire too.” Derrick didn’t even hesitate with his answer. “I don’t care, as long as I’m with you, I don’t care.” With that said he bent and gently touched his lips to hers. He went over and sat on her bed. She slowly walked to him until she was standing between his legs. Since Derrick was so much taller than her, he was at eye level with Ashanti when he was sitting down. “I love you, Derrick.” She said before she went to his neck. She kissed his neck and bit him. Derrick hissed at the pain, but then was moaning in pleasure. He grabbed her hips and, again, dug his fingers in. She took just enough blood to give her strength but not too much to make him too weak. When she was done she licked his neck to heal the wound. When she looked at Derrick, he saw that her eyes were their normal pale green and her fangs were gone. “Thanks.” She said. Derrick just smiled at her and said, “Anything for you baby.”
