The Barrier
By Joseph P Hradisky Jr
This story is about breaking through barriers both physical and mental. Physical in the sense of overcoming things like crossing a river, climbing a mountain, surviving a blizzard. Mental in the idea of standing on their own feet instead of kneeling before those who think they are superior. It is always about knowing what is right and doing it regardless of the consequences.
I dedicate this book to my wonderful wife Terri, my two sons Alec and Ian.

The snow was falling softly with just a taste of wind swirling the flakes around.
It was a hard enough snowfall that if the wind did blow harder the visibility would be reduced to zero. Aaron trudged through the foot deep snow trying to get back to the camp. So far he was heading in the right direction which really didn't help the situation they were in. He should have listened to himself and just said no to take these city people back when they could have holed up safely in the deserted village. But gold was gold and lately money, of any kind, was too hard to come by. If all went well he wouldn't have to hire out again until spring for what they were paying him.
"How much further?" It was Glenn Peter, head of the cultural expedition, he was an impatient one. Wanted everything right
