PROLOGUE

Scarlette Roberts stood inside the gate of the Chandler Manor. She was astounded by the enormity of the property, the winding drive seemed to last forever. As she came to the clear, ahead of her stood the grand Chandler Manor.

She was astounded by the crown molding and frescoes that lined the ceiling. As for the furniture though it was as intrusive as its owner. She was a prying spinster but she saw early on she would not get the worst of her. Take one or two to the cheek she kept on telling herself.

The Gardens were exquisite she had not witnessed such grandeur. She was sure to be lost in here, should I keep going? So she retraced her steps promising herself she would revisit the gardens when she had more time.

She was enjoying the warm summer breeze. Being surrounded by luxury didn't change the fact that she was a maid's daughter- a low-life, commoner- judged by people who look down upon her and her mother- who just passed away.

She blinked back the tears that was threatening to fall. Her mother was a hard working and a very loving mother. She was her mother as well as father. Cancer took her away from Scarlette and for her last breath she was able to tell her to find her uncle George who is really her father.

It turned out that he was the CEO of one of the most leading company in the world. He died, too. Months before her mother's death.

She had known him as his uncle. He was always there for her birthday, giving her expensive gifts that always ended up at her closet. She appreciate the gifts, yes but she was not the type of person to brag material things. She preffered to be invinsible to the eyes of dumb teenage kids.

Her inner ramblings was cut off by a clearing of throat. She doesn't have to turn around to guess who it was. It was his her father's wife- Victoria Chandler. She cleared her throat again. She reluctantly face her.

There she was. The devil himself with her arms crossed, head held high, nose scrunched up in disgust, and impatiently tapping her $2,000 Jimmy Choo.

"Why did you come here? I told you not to go here! They might see you." She sneered grabbing her arm and violently yanking her towards the high bushes. Of course the 'they' she was referring to was the stuck up, snob, and arrogant socialites.

"I just wanted to tell you that I'm leaving," she simply said. She can already imagine her smiling victoriously and clapping her hands but for some unknown reason she wasn't. Instead her face was red with fury and her grip on her arm was squishing the life out of her poor arm.

"No! You are not leaving unless I say so." She said through gritted teeth. "You still have to pay your debts. Remember whose money your mother used on her treatment. I'm not going to let you get away with it, you and your mother has made my family a laughing stock."

Scarlette took a step back. Victoria's voice was low and venomous that she didn’t pay attention to what she said, just the way she said it shocked her. She had become a whole different person. Her shining blue eyes had now changed to a dark and gloomy black. Her teeth clenched together.

Of course no one knew about her being George Chandler illegitimate child except the Chandler's, she was just a paranoid old woman who cares about her status and image.

"But how will I pay you back? I'm just a fourteen year old, homeless and no money." her voice quivered.

Victoria's face turned into a sly smile and the grip from his arm loosened. "That's what you think," She purred.

"What?" Scarlette was confused. The last time she checked her purse contains a seven hundred dollars and an old Nokia phone.

"Oh, do you think George died without giving you anything?" She crossed her arms again. "Of course he would give you the whole company!" She laughed bitterly.

Her eyes buldged.

"Imagine?! You?! Your not even his legitimate child. Imagine what will other people say to me?" She cried. "But of course! I already have a plan. You'll marry my son next week and when your eighteen . . ." She trailed off. "Let's just say that the company will be in my son's good hands. How's that sound?" She smiled enthusiastically. "Ok. Great!" And in an istant she was gone leaving Scarlette dumbfounded at the garden.

She shook her head. "What a bi-polar." She huffed.

I'm only fourteen, for christ sake! I can't marry him!

---------

Weeks had passed. Scarlette had never been so hopeless in her life. She'll be marrying Victoria's son -Jakeson Adelson-Chandler- from another man before George. They never had the chance to produce another child.

After the wedding they headed to Paris and it's only the beginning of life's harsh awakening for Scarlette.

I don't even know what to type, it's like this story just popped into my head and the next thing I knew it was already on the said category. I even had to wait for like a month for my other story to get a booze up and this one only has to take hours! not days.. Anyway! Let's get on with the story and I'll stop my babbling.

**

FIVE YEARS LATER

Scarrlette woke up with the twins arguing on the bed on who's going to wake her. She smiled while watching the two girls who was completely oblivious that their mother was already awake.

"No! I get to wake mommy." Pamela said pouting her lips.

"Aww! Pammy!" Patricia whaled. "Don't do that!" she pointed a finger at her sister's lip.

"What? You mean this?" She gave her a puupy look face and Scarlette already knew that Pat lost the argument.

"Fine!" Patricia huffed and crossed her tiny hands across her chest.

Scarlette pretended to be asleep. The bed wobbled and the next thing she knew her face was peppered with Pamela's lips.

"I'm up! I'm up!" She throw her hands in the air. The girls giggled and attack her with hugs and kisses.

"Mommy, is the creepy lady gonna be with us again?" Pamela asked referring to Grandma Claire's maid.

"Of course she is. And she's not creepy. That's just the way grown up's are," Patricia replied with a 'duh' tone.

"I'm not asking you." Pam snapped.

"Stop it, you guys." Scarlette glared playfully. "How about we cook pancakes and then I'll drop you off to school?" The two groaned and mumbled about what's the point in going to school.

She got up and the two trailed behind her.

They ate silently when Pam asked "Mom, Mitchell said dad doesn't love us because he's not here. Is that true mommy?" Her big baby blue eyes that resembled her father stared at her and she found herself five years ago staring at the man that she loved, or that's what she thought.

"Mom?"

She mentally shook her head and smile, "Of course your dad loves you two. It's just that daddy is a very busy man." they nod their heads.

"We're going to be late! Now get those cute little butts moving. Chop chop." She made a slicing motion in her hand.

All the pain washed away just by looking at those two angels. She sighed and cleaned the table.

Another day. Same routine.

**

Jakeson Chandler woke up with a massive head ache. Someone opened the the curtains which is a stupid thing to do. He squinted his eyes.

"Nice to know that you're still alive." Travis shouted.

He groaned and went still on his bed. The heel of his palm was covering his eyes.

"Hey! Get up!" Travis grumbled while tugging him.

"Shit, dude! I have a fucking hangover. Leave me alone!" He murmured.

He heard him sigh. "You have to forget about Scarlette."

Hearing her name brought an unpleasant feelings: Anger, pain, sadness, and regret. He regret sleeping with Chloe. She was his fuck buddy and he was young and stupid. He can't get Scarlette's image out of his mind. It was tearing him apart. He still love her, yes he's already in love with her at that time and it scared the hell out of him.

"Whatever." He got up and walked towards the bathroom leaving Travis in the room.

Chapter 02

It's already half past ten when she finally finished teaching and baby sitting the Johnson twins. She was paid one hundred fifty dollars per hour, nine hundred dollars everyday. Enough for their needs and besides Grandma Clare Chandler has been taking care of her since she was six months pregnant.

She was wise, elegant, and surprisingly taken her without hesitation, but when she turned eighteen a year ago she decided to move but her Grandma won't let her then gave up as long her Grandma finds a house for her and her daughters and her job should only be for extra income.

The Johnson twins reminded her of her two daughter. If she was still in the Manor and didn't left would life be like this for her two daughter?

"Good night Mrs. Johnson."

"Oh, how many times do I have to tell you to call me Kate?" Kate shook her head and smile.

"About a hundred more." She chuckled.

She laugh. "Well good night to you, too. Next time bring those two little angel of yours here so you don't have to worry every minute." She gave her a warm smile.

"Sure. I'll think about it." She waved her hand and got in the car.

-----

Eleven o'clock on the dot she pulled over her Grandma's mansion. She was greeted by her grandma wearing a red robe.

"Oh my- Scarlette. I missed you!" Her Grandma Claire kissed her cheek and hugged her tight.

"Grandma . . . Can't . . . Breath!" She choked out.

She reluctantly pulled away from her and sigh. "I just wanted to hug you. is that hard to give to a dying woman like me?" She cried wiping the non-existent tear.

"Whoa! Grandma, who told you you're dying?" She asked trying not to laugh. Her grandma is such a drama queen.

"No one. I just assume I was. Old people die too, you know?" She said a matter of fact.

"But your not old! You're like, Fifty nine-"

She cut her off. "Fifty eight." She sniffed.

"Fifty eight or something. That's hardly old at all!" She exclaimed.

"I knew you would say that to make me feel better that's why I have a surprise for you."

She groaned. Not again! Her grandma is always trying to find a way to give her things that she knows she can't refuse.

"What is this Grandma?" She asked holding a key in front of her.

"You are a Chandler. You're not suppose to be dumb." She muttered. "It's a key."

"I know it's a key. I mean, what for?"

"To open your head so we can find your brain."

She rolled her eyes. "Ha-ha. You're so funny Grandma and very sarcastic too." She feigned sweetness.

"Why thank you."

"That's not a compliment."

"Whatever. Go outside and play."

She rolled her eyes again. Once she stepped outside she saw a Volkswagen Hybrid.

"Grandma!" She groaned.

"Nu-uh! It's either you take or I'll take your car."

"Fine," she grumbled.

"It's already eleven thirty I think I should get the kids."

"They're already sleeping. Why don't you stay here for the night." She suggested.

She shrugged. "Sure." She kissed her grandma goodbye and headed towards the guestroom near the twins.
