Chapter 1:Aunt Sophia Gone
"Samantha Elina Jenkins, please come to the front office immediately". Boomed Rosedale High's loudspeaker. Sam arose from her desk and walked towards the door. Everyone in Mrs.Erin's 10th grade class giggled and pointed as Sam turned the brass doorknob and stepped into Rosedale's cream colored hall with the terracotta tiles. She straightened her crisp white blouse and brushed dirt off of her blue denim jeans. She didn't usally get called to the front office unless of emergencys so she was quite nervous as her Mary Jane pumps clicked against the hard floor. When she reached the front office Ms.Evans, a short middle aged woman who wore way too much red lipstick, opened the door for her and led her to the prinipals office in the back. Sam sat down in one of the comfy cushioned seats and tucked her legs under the chair. "Hello Miss Jenkins." A broad smile spread across Mr.Sanchez's wrinkly face. His silver hair gleamed in the light from the ceiling fan. "Um hi," Sam said nervously. "Im afraid I have to inform you of some tragic news." His face looked solemn as he explained to her that her great Aunt Sophia had just died of a heart attack. Tears sprang to Sam's worried eyes and she started to cry after a few seconds. Her great Aunt Sophia and her were very close. Aunt Sophia had made Sam cookies when she was sick, she sung to her when she was sad, and she always played board games with her when no one else would ever since Sam was little. "Im very sorry Samantha." Mr.Sanchez said after a few moments. "Um,-sniffle-,its okay Mr.Sanchez. Sam walked to the front of the office and sat in another chair as she waited for her parents to pick her up from school. When Mr. and Mrs.Jenkins walked in the doors of the office Sam smiled warily at them. She could see they had been crying too from the way their eyes were red and puffy. "Oh sweetie, im so sorry." Sighed Samantha's Mom. "Yeah I know its ok though mom, I knew she was having troubles." Sam said wistfully. And she did know her Aunt was having troubles by the way it was hard for her to breathe last time they played checkers in Samantha's front foyer of her mansion. Mr.Jenkins sighed. "Well OK lets go home now and maybe we can rent a movie with your brother and eat some popcorn like we used to do." Sam's father suggested. "Well alright." Sam didn't really want to,all she wanted to do was cry in her room, but she knew her dad was only trying to help, so she stood up and walked out of Rosedale High into the light Spring air. Her dad drove home and when they got there Sam hopped out of the car and slowly walked into her Victorian style colonial mansion. Her mom and dad right on her heels. Immediatly Sam's little brother Jason walked up to Sam and hugged her, and she hugged him back.
Chapter 2:Ryan
Samantha walked into Rosedale High the next day and everybody seemed to know about her Aunt Sophia. People looked at Sam sadly as if they said anything she would burst into tears. But maybe she would, so she let the people stare and feel sorry for her. Why shouldn't they? But after 3rd period everyone seemed to foget about Sam and her Aunt. Sam was popular at Rosedale High with her best friend Clancy and her assistant, ok well actually a student named Betsy Jhonson who she paid, and her life was great. Until her Aunt died. But she had to calm herself when she thought about it. As Sam and Clancy were walking down the hall Sam saw the new kid who was in her homeroom walking in the opposite direction as Sam and Clancy. He was actually kind of cute with his bleach blond surfer boy hair and his perfectly tanned summer skin. Today he was waering khaki shorts with a muscle tee. He looked gorgeous from where Sam was standing. Sam looked down at her outfit. She was wearing light brown gouchi short shorts with a puffy white Chanel shirt, it was cut up a feew inches to show a strip of her perfect tan toned belly skin. Her gleaming golden hair was up in a high ponytail, and she had on her new kiss me pina coloda flavored lip gloss. It shined on her lips as she clip clopped down the hall in her strappy tan sandals. Yesterday she was a runny mascara mess from crying but today she back and more gorgeous than ever. Ryan (new kid) walked up to Sam and Sam was shocked to see him in front of her, she hadn't seen him coming towards her. She tightened her ponytail and said "Hi!" Ryan looked at her with a puzzled look. "Um yeah uh hi, I just found out were chemistry partners and i was wondering if you have the lab notes." At first Sam thought it was a pick up line, you know "chemistry partners," and she was a bit excited until she realized he was serious. "Oh um yes actually I do." She smiled at him showing dazzling white teeth. "Wow thanks, atleast someone is nice to me at this school." He said. before he walked off Sam called after him: "Hey wait heres my number if you need anything else for chemistry!" He looked back at her with a sparkle in his eye and a lopsided grin on his beautiful face. "Thanks I'll call you." He said as he took Sam's number. Then he walked away. Sam turned to Clancy who had been silent the whole time. Clancy blurted out: "You know its against popularity rules to date an outsider, especially the new guys." Sam frowned. She didn't know why she liked this guy so much....she just did. "Well if that's the way your gonna be then fine, but if it means dating him-I think I can break a few rules. Sam scowled at Clancy and stomped off in the opposite direction.
Chapter 3:Falling for him
Sam had felt guilty about her and Clancy's fight at first but then she just brushed off her guilt. Sam rolled her eyes. "What do I care anyways, I'll date whoever I want whenever I want and I don't care what peopel think so there!" She shouted to no one in particular. She jogged to lunch her blond ponytail dancing when she ran. "Hey wait up!" Called Ryan. Sam stopped in her tracks and spun around on her heel. Immediately a smile spread across her gleaming face. "Hey, whats up?" she asked. "Not much, I um-" his sentence was cut short by someone yelling at Sam to join HIM at his lunch table. It was Gregory Marshall, the band geek. Sam looked over her shoulder and frowned. "No Greg maybe tomorrow!" "Or not." she muttered under her breath. Gregory's face dropped. Sam looked back at Ryan. "So yeah?" she asked him. "Oh right well I was wondering if you wanted to have lunch with me......" he asked her. Sam's eyes sparkled with happiness. "Of course!" she exclaimed a bit too excitedly. Sam calmed herself. "Yaaaa sure why not." she corrected. They walked into the lunch room and sat down. They both had lunches of their own. They talked, laughed, and ate together for the lunch hour. Then at 9:54 Ryan blurted out: "Will you go out with me?"
Chapter 4:First Kiss
Sam was shocked at the thought then she gave him a warm smile. "Yes." she said. Ryan gave her one of his goofy grins. "Yeah? Cool Ill pick you up at 7:00 tonight." he told her. "Where are we going?" Sam asked curiously. "It's a surprise..." he told her. She was still curious but clearly he wanted her to be surprised so she threw her trash int he garbage can and walked out of the lunch room.
------------------------------
That night Sam slipped on dark skinny jeans and a tee shirt that read BEAUTY FAILS WHEN YOUR NOT PRETTY ON THE INSIDE, her Aunt Sophia had given her the t-shirt as a present. A lump formed in Sam's throat when she thought of her Aunt. She brushed the feeling off because she knew she would have to forget about it and brush off the pain and sadness sooner or later. Sam pulled on her hot pink hi-tops to match the text on the t-shirt. She brushed her long blond hair until it was bouncy around her face and shining in the light. Sam walked down the stairs and into the family room where a fire was crackling high in the fireplace. It was a chilly night so Sam grabbed a midnight blue hoodie from the coat rack in her hall closet. She slipped it on. The doorbell rang and a tinkling bell sound rang throught the house. Sam walked to the big french manor doors and opened them. There he was dressed in light blue denim jeans and another muscle tee (grey) he had on a coal black jacket that was unzipped. "Hey." he smiled at her. "Hi." Sam said dreamily then bit her lip. She didn't want to sound to desperate. "Lets go." she said to him. They got into his Mom's silver volvo, his Chevy was in the shop for repairing. They drove to a little hill that over looked all of Deansville, Ohio. The city lights twinkled in the chilly night air. "Wow," breathed Sam. It sure was pretty. "You like it?" he asked. Sam nodded. They sat down on a blue blanket Ryan had brought and they shared grapes and cider. They talked and laughed about their family stories and memories. Then, Ryan leaned in and kissed her so softly and tenderly. Sam whole body tingled with happiness from head to toe. Her body felt all warm in fuzzy inside. He leaned back on his hands in the dark green grass. Sam bit her lip.She smiled to herself. "Wow." Sam sighed.
-----------------------------
Ryan and Sam had been on 5 more dates after that and they had went steaady. 3 weeks after their first date Ryan and Sam walked into Rosedale High hand in hand not really caring what people thought about them. Clancy looked their way in disgust. Sam just kept walking down the hall with her boyfriend. Tee hee, boyfriend. she thought to herself. Sam stopped suddenly in the hall and kissed Ryan to make sure everyone knew she was dating him and she didn't care what they thought. Sam and Ryan got to homeroom just before the late bell. They sat down next to eachother. Sam doodled in her notebook while listening to Mrs.Erin talk about lame crap from the 1800's. She could really care less all she cared about was Ryan. Then her vision blurred and she thought of her Aunt Sophia for some reason. Sam and her Aunt were at some school function fund raiser evnt and a guy named Gary Hollows who had knew her Aunt Sophia looked at Sophia like he wanted to murder her. Sam thought back to all the times she saw that guy. Every time he had a scowl on his face staring at my Aunt in disgust. The night Sam had learned about her Aunt's death her parents had told her it was a heart attack but she found out from the local newspaper that they suspected a murder. She remembered Gary Hollows was a criminal on probation. She hadn't thought of it when she heard her Aunt was dead. But now.........her thought trailed off and she choked on the though of her Aunt Sophia being physically murdered by some scary looking creep. She came back to reality when she saw the Mrs.Erin patting Sam's back and Ryan holding her hand. Everyone was staring at her. "Are you okay sweetie?" asked the teacher. "I-im fine stuttered Sam.The teacher nodded and started talking about the civil war again. Ryan looked at Sam with a worried face but continued copying his notes into their dayplanners. Sam looked wistfully out the window and wondered so many thing about her Aunt and before she knew it the bell had rung and she was on her way to 1st period......
Chapter 5:Finding out the truth
On April 16, 2008 (today) Sam,Mr and Mrs Jenkins, and Jason all went to their Great Aunt Sophia's funeral just outside of Deansville, Ohio. Sophia had wished to be buried in that exact cemetary because thats where Great Uncle Howard was. Samantha was dressed in a short black dress with wide straps,GIGI black pumps that had been a gift from Sophia but which hurt Sam's feet,a big black hat with netting surrounding the perimeter of it,and a black cardigan sweater over the dress. She had to keep wiping away loose tears so her mascara wouldn't run. Ryan had kissed her goodbye because he wasn't exactly invited to the funeral. When they got to Oldtown Cemetery Sam quickly took a seat in on a the hard metal folding chairs and crossed her legs. The rest of her family did the same. Sam listened to the speeches and when it was her turn she stood up obiediently and took her position on the little stool. "Hello everyone, you all knew My Great Aunt Sophia and you all cherished and loved her." she said. "She was a great woman with many talents and dreams that she never really got the chance to fulfill, but she was still a great aunt-literally." (laugh) Sam went on with her speech and when it was over she took her seat again and watched her father do his speech, then mother, then Jason. At the end of the Funeral everyone hugged and cried not knowing what else to do. The whole ride home everyone was silent. Nobody said a word. We were all too sad to speak. When Sam got home, Ryan was waiting for her. She half smiled. She knew the pain of her Aunts's death would always be with her but she knew also that she had to get over it enough so that she could enjoy life again. "Sweetie Ryan is waiting for you." said Mrs.Jenkins. Sam sighed and got out the car, she walked up to Ryan and hugged him. "Im sorry," he whispered.
----------------------------
The next day was Saturday and Sam and Ryan were going to hang out. Sam slipped on some old jeans of her mom's and fished a cotton grey boyfriend tee from her dresser drawers. She pulled her hair intto a high ponytail and re-glossed her luscious lips. Sam looked at herself in the mirror and sihged. Her nails were done in a French manicure. She put on some black sparkly flip-flops and headed out. Ryan, looking more gorgeous than ever, waited for her at Central Park. They were going to see a movie.Sam's father surpringly drove up behind Sam and asked her to get in the car. "Why?" asked Sam. "Your mother and I have something to tell you." he said. Sam glanced at Ryan, who was unaware that Sam was there yet. So she got in her mothers mercedes and started to ask what was going on when her question was cut short. "Your Aunt was murdered." blurted out Mrs.Jenkins. Sam stared dumbfounded at her parents. She had sort of guessed it herself but she hadn't said anything considering the fact that she didn't want to let on that she thought her parents had lied to her. "I, um, I guess i sort of figured that part out." Her mom let out an exasperated sigh. "But why did you lie to me?" Sam asked. "Well, we didn't want you to worry to much over this honey." said Mrs Jenkins. "I mean she was having breathing problems but... she was murdered by Gary Hollows." Sam let in a short, sharp breath. "WHY DID HE KILL HER!" Sam yelled. This was too much. "Sweetie, calm down, he murdred her for the money Howard was related to Hollows and then Howard died and now technically Sophia is related to him." she said. Mr. Jenkins added, "Yes, her will would have been his if it wasnt for your mom and I confirming our relations." "But now he could kill one of us because we took away the money!" Sam shouted. A pained look came across her mothers face. "No, no honey don't worry it's gonna be OK...." her mom trailed off. Sam hopped out of the car and ran to Ryan. She hugged him tight and he hugged her back. "What is it?" he asked. "My Aunt was murdered by Gary Hollows."
