My name is Raksha. Everyone calls me Demon cause my name means demon. I am sixteen years old. I have black hair, eyes that look the color gray, pale skin, and I have an usual symptom in which no matter how much food I eat I never gain any pounds or fat. I constantly weigh 105 pounds.
I can do many things. I can dance, sneak around, and I am a great fighter. I have been fighting since I’ve been 6 years old. My brother taught me how to fight while he was being trained since he’s been 6 too. We are twins.
My brother is Damon Night. He has competed in many competitions and has won almost all of them. What nobody knows is that I can kick his butt any time. I became better than him because I taught myself moves that include many different skills. The only person that knows I can fight is my brother.
School was over, finally, and I was waiting for my ride. My boyfriend picks me up after school.
My boyfriend is Hunter. He is seventeen years old, a year older than me. He has pale blond hair, clear blue eyes, pale skin, and has some serious muscles. We have been dating for 6 months and are not having difficulty at all. He is a fighter and trains at Sinister with my brother. Sinister is the number one fight place in our county.
He finally came. I got into his car and turned on the radio.
‘So how was school?’ he asked.
‘Fine.’ I answered then we went to Sinister.
At Sinister Hunter trained while I hung out at the bar where they only serve soda, water, and lemonade since they can’t risk any of the fighters drunk.
Damon came in and came over to me.
‘Demon we need to talk.’ he said
‘What is it?’
‘I am coming over to your school tomorrow to give a performance and I need a partner.’
We go to different schools so we don’t get into each others ways.
‘NO!’ I yelled, I didn’t want anybody to know my secret.
‘Come on I need a partner and nobody is up for it not even your boyfriend. He says he can’t cause I’m too good and will probably kick his ass which is true so I need you to fight with me.’
‘Do you know how long I’ve been keeping this secret. Ten years. I’ve kept it for ten years cause I didn’t anybody to know and now you want me to come out of the closet and say all of a sudden ‘hey everybody look I can fight’’
‘Yea.’
‘Well I’m not so go ask someone else’ I got up and left Sinister. I didn’t want to be around my brother anymore then the next guy. I walked to my house which was about 10 blocks away but I was so angry at Damon I was able to walk that long.
When I got home I immediately went upstairs to my room and went on the computer. I put on some music but that didn’t help so I turned off my computer and went to my kitchen. I got myself a snack as my parents came into the kitchen and sat down and watched me as I got some gummy worms.
I finally sat down across from my parents and gave them a questioning look.
‘We have something to tell you.’ my mom said.
‘What?’
‘You are going to a camp for teens to control their fighting.’
I sat there frozen and staring wide eyed at my parents.
‘Damon told us that he taught you how to fight and that it would be a good idea to do it cause you are just beginning to learn and he doesn’t want you to hurt anyone.’
If he told them that I was better than him I would’ve killed him.
‘I’m not going.’ I finally said.
‘Oh yes you are. Tomorrow you will be leaving for the camp. It is about an hour away and there will be teenagers from all over the country trying to learn how to control their fighting as will you. Now go get packed and you will leave first thing tomorrow morning.’ my dad said then he and my mom left me in the kitchen still stunned that I’m going to camp and that Damon told them I could fight.
I went to my room and called Hunter to tell him what’s happening.
‘Hello?’ he answered.
‘It’s me.’
‘Hey Demon how’s it going?’
‘I have to tell you something.’
‘What is it?’ Hunter said concerned.
‘I’m going to camp tomorrow. It’s a camp for teenagers to control their fighting skills.’
‘You can fight?’
‘Damon taught me and I’m probably gonna put him in the hospital for telling my parents.’
‘Wait tomorrow.’
‘Yep.’
‘This is bullshit’
‘I know but I have to go or my parents will hogtie me up and drag me there against my own will if I don’t go willingly and it’s an hour away.’
‘At least you’re close by’
‘Not close enough.’ I mumbled.
‘Hey don’t worry I’ll come before you leave to say goodbye.’
‘Well I better start packing or else I won’t have time to beat up Damon and pack for tomorrow.’
‘K well bye. Love you’
‘Love you too.’ I said then hung up and got out my duffel bag.
I started to pack my clothes. Once I had all my clothes packed I got my other duffel bag and packed some personal belongings and some more clothes that didn’t fit in my other duffel. When I got done I went downstairs to find Damon cause he should be here by now.
‘Damon!!!’ I yelled.
I saw him run into the kitchen I went into the kitchen to find him I caught him ducking behind the counter. I went over and trapped him like a helpless bunny.
‘You told them!’ I yelled.
‘Yes.’
‘And now they’re sending me to some camp’
‘Yes.’
‘What the hell is wrong with you!!?’
‘It was time.’
I got mad and went upstairs to my room.
I laid down on my bed and just stared up at my ceiling.
I stayed like that for the rest of the day then I changed into my pajamas and went to sleep.
I woke up to someone shaking my arm and calling my name.
‘Raksha. Wake up Raksha.’
I opened my eyes to see Hunter sitting on my bed.
‘Uggghhh….. Few more hours. Me sleepy.’
‘come on you don’t want to miss your first day at camp.’
‘fuck camp’
‘do it for me.’
I groaned then got out of bed.
‘come on lets get you changed then it’s off for camp.!’
I went to my closet and got my clothes. I went to the bathroom and changed then I went back to my room and fixed my hair. I got my duffels and went downstairs. Hunter helped me carry one of my duffels.
My dad was waiting at the car.
‘this is it.’ I said.
‘promise me one thing.’ Hunter said.
‘what?’
‘you don’t forget about me.’
‘I could never.’
Hunter gave me a goodbye kiss then I went into the car.
I waved goodbye to Hunter then my dad drove away.
During the entire trip I didn’t talk at all. I was thinking about what would happen when I get there. Of course I would try to make friends but then again I could pretend to be mysterious girl and not talk to anyone. This was going to be fun.
We finally got there.
I looked out the window to see who I would be going to camp with. There were a lot of different people. For one almost all the guys were hot. The girls were really pretty. I could tell they came from all over the world from how they dressed. I got out of the car and got my duffels. I said goodbye to my dad then went over to a bench and sat down.
I felt guys stares as I sat there and glares from girls around me. Apparently they thought I was prettier than them.
The counselor’s came. There were ten in all. A lot of girls and guys were called out and some of the names they messed up on.
‘Raksha.’ counselor number 5 called. I got my duffels and went over to my group. Guys stared as I stood next to a couple of girls.
When everyone was finally called out we went to our cabins. Our cabin was like a two story house.
We slept on the top floor. Girls on the right guys on the left. We had to share a room with one another since there were 10 rooms and 10 guys and 10 girls.
I got stuck in a room with a girl named Jasmine.
I set up my side of the room while she set up hers. We didn’t talk at all until we were done. I had photos on my little dressers and my clothes in drawers and my bed already had sheets and a comforter so I didn’t have to do anything with it.
When we were done I sat on my bed while she went onto her laptop.
‘So why are you here?’ Jasmine asked.
‘Parents found out I could fight through my bro and now I’m stuck here. I would’ve killed my bro but I was to tired of looking at him.’
‘Is that him?’
She motioned to a picture of me and my bro on cliff with the view in the background.
‘Yea it is. So why are you here?’
‘When I beat my brother so bad that he had to go to the hospital my parents sent me here.’
‘Cool.’
‘Since we’re gonna be living together for a while why not be friends while we’re here. You know since we have to share a room. I wouldn’t want to be enemies with someone who’s name means demon.’
I smiled deviously.
‘That’s what everybody calls me actually so be free to call me Demon or Raksha. Just so you know Demon is much easier to pronounce.’
‘All right Demon.’ She said testing out my nickname.
‘I fuckin hate this place.’ I said laying down.
‘How do you know? We just got here.’
‘A little something called I’m hot and there’s a lot of hot guys here looking for some action while I have a boyfriend.’
‘You have a boyfriend?!’
‘Yep. Been dating for 6 months now.’
‘I wish guys were interested in me.’ Jasmine said sadly.
I sat up.
‘What are you talking about you’re beautiful, how can guys not be interested in you.’
‘They just aren’t’
A bell rang out of nowhere and then I realized a speaker in the corner in ceiling up in the room.
‘All members of group 5 come down to the living room.’
Jasmine and I went downstairs together. It looked like everybody was getting along fine. I sat on a desk while everyone took a seat on either the sofa, chair, or floor.
‘Okay everyone I’m your counselor Scott. Now there are only a few rules you have to know before we go get breakfast. One, no food fights, Second, you can’t prance around naked, Three, no sex, Four, you can’t leave till the end of camp which is in three months, and Five, you deserve every punishment you get. Now lets go down to the dining hall and get some breakfast.’
Jasmine and I walked together over to the dining hall and sat together. A lot of people came over to say hi then they just left. I finished with my food before anyone. No matter how much I eat I never gain fat cause I work out a lot.
‘You were hungry.’
‘Left in a hurry.’
I made up an excuse cause I didn’t want anybody to know.
‘So have you ever had sex?’ Jasmine asked me curious.
‘God no’ I said.
‘Why not you look like someone who would’ve already had sex.’
‘I know and that’s the reason why. Why would I want to have sex with anyone I meet. It’s just not natural you should have sex with someone you love.’
‘I haven’t either.’ Jasmine said.
A girl came over to us. She looked dangerous which is perfect for me but not for Jasmine. I could tell she felt uncomfortable.
‘Hey.’ she said and sat down.
‘What’s up?’
‘Lookin for a place to sit. Everyone seems afraid of me like you friend here. By the way I’m Rachel.’
‘My friend is Jasmine. I’m Raksha but you can call me Demon since they both mean the same thing.’
I knew I caught her by surprise cause of the reaction I got when I introduced us.
‘You aren’t afraid of me?’ Rachel asked.
‘Why should I be? Once you get to know the real me I would seem tougher than you so why not do it the other way around and anyways I hang out with a lot of fighters like hardcore fighters so I’m used to the dangerous type people.’
‘Your not half bad.’
‘Thanks oh and just so you know try not to get into a fight with me cause I can pummel you to the ground’
I sat back and watched her. She was happy with me and I could tell she has met someone who she can be friends with.
I noticed some guys comin over to our table so I signaled Jasmine and Rachel. They acted natural.
They got to us there were four guys in all.
‘Hey mind if we sit here.’
‘Not at all.’ Jasmine said.
They said down.
‘So what are the prettiest girls here talkin about.’
‘Come on I bet you said that line to every group of girls here. Try something new.’ I said. Jasmine and Rachel smiled at me.
‘Oh she got you.’ His buddy said.
‘I’m Jaco, the one with brown hair and black highlights, that’s Simon, the one with geeky glasses, that’s Jake, the one with a scar under his eye, and that’s Newt, he has blond hair and brown highlights and newt is just a nickname.’
‘I’m Rachel, the one with brown hair, that’s Jasmine, the one with blond hair, and that’s Raksha, the one with black hair and the one who likes to be called Demon.’
‘Why demon?’ Jake asked.
‘That’s what my name means demon.’
‘Nice.’
My phone rang. I answered it cause it was Hunter.
‘Hey.’ I said.
‘How’s camp so far?’
‘Good’
‘Made any friends’
‘Yep’
‘Oh here’s your brother.’
‘Your with my brother!’ I said shocked.
‘Yea apparently he needs a ride to school so I offered.’
‘Hey Demon.’ Damon said.
‘Hey Damon.’
‘You still mad at me’
‘Oh yea just wait till I get home after this you’ll wish you never told mom and dad.’
‘Gotta go. Bye talk to you later.’
‘Well I gotta go to if I don’t get off I’ll probably run into a car.’ Hunter said.
‘ok bye and stop talking on the phone and driving.’
He laughed then hung up.
‘Was that your boyfriend?’ Jasmine asked.
‘Yep.’
‘Wait is your brother Damon Night?’ Newt asked.
‘Yea why?’
‘He’s an awesome fighter.’
‘Just wait till you see me in action.’ I said.
‘Wait if you know how to fight then how come I’ve never heard of you?’ Jaco said.
‘Been keeping it a secret since I’ve been six. If anybody knew I could fight I knew things would get worse.’
‘What do you mean?’ Rachel asked.
‘It’s a little thing called school and ever since people found out I can’t participate in my fighting class they hate me so if they find out I could actually fight they would hate me more.’
‘Oh ok.’
When everyone got done eating we went outside to get some fresh air. We were talking about how Simon should get some cooler glasses when a group of girls came over to us.
Rachel, Jasmine, Jaco, Simon, Newt, and Jake stayed there and talked to them while I walked away. I went for a walk along the river there. When I hit forest I backtracked and went to a little clearing full of fighting stuff.
I went into the clearing to see what we would be practicing on. I saw dummies small and big. Wooden boards big and small. A ring for fighting.
I didn’t know someone was there until they came up to me.
‘Hello I’m Rick the director of this camp and I would like to know if you would like to be in our little demonstration.’
‘Ok.’
‘Come with me then.’
I followed the director to a room. I changed into a fighting training outfit then went to a building where a ring was set up. I had to wait and come out on his cue which was introducing me.
Half an hour later I heard a lot of noise so I guessed everyone was here. I didn’t get to be in that room for very long cause I heard my name. I went out to face everyone.
‘Raksha is here today to fight for her life or actually just fight against the best fighters in the county.’ I stood there stunned at what I just heard.
‘I would like to welcome Ricky, William, Jose, and Pepe.’
These three big muscle guys came out and stood at the other side of the ring.
‘I can’t fight against them. I haven’t fought against anyone in my life.’ I whispered to the director.
‘And fight!’
The fight started. They all cornered me. Then I jumped over them to stand in the middle. I never got a chance to run away because they started punching me and kicking me. When they were done I had pain everywhere and I was on the floor of the ring.
That’s when I got angry. They were high fiving each other when I slowly got back up. They looked at me surprised.
‘Enough!!!’ I yelled loudly.
‘You wanna fight let’s fight.’ I said putting my hands up.
This time I was ready. I fought with all I had. I was moving around the floor so much I lost track where I just was a minute ago. After a long time I was standing up with my fists up ready to fight and four guys on the ground groaning in pain. When a long time passed I put my hands down and my guard down but that was a mistake. Ricky tripped me and got up but I got back up and punched him so hard I heard his jaw crack and he was down. I was breathing hard. The director came onto the ring.
‘Well look at that.’ he said looking at the four guys on the floor.
‘Our winner DEMON!!’
I heard a lot of cheering and clapping.
The four guys got up slowly and practically limped to the director.
I left when one of them got up. I ran out of the room and outside. I kept running until I got to my room. I ran to my room cause I didn’t want anyone to see how badly hurt I was. Strangely enough when I ran it didn’t hurt do much but when I stopped it erupted in pain.
In my room I sat down on my bed and check my side. I had a nasty bruises all over my chest and sides. I looked at my legs and saw bruises there too.
I got up to get some ointment for my bruises when Jasmine and Rachel came tumbling in.
‘Hey why’d you run away everyone wants to cheer you on and those guys you beat up want to talk to you.’ Rachel said.
‘Shut the door.’ I said angrily.
Jasmine shut the door.
I limped over to my dresser and got the ointment. I went back over to my bed and lifted my shirt up. Rachel and Jasmine gasped at what they saw.
‘Now I understand why you ran away’ Jasmine said.
I started rubbing the ointment on my bruises which made them hurt more. By the time I was done I was lying on my bed in pain.
‘Hey are you okay you don’t look so great.’
‘Just hurts.’ I said weakly.
The ointment was to cure my bruises but with a cost. The ointment is used right wouldn’t do anything at all but if it’s used wrong I can so weak that I have to go into the hospital and that’s what’s happening now.
‘Get me a bowl of water now. I have to take this stuff of.’ I said.
They ran out of the room and ten minutes later were back with a bowl of water.
I washed the ointment off before I would get worse.
‘Oh god what am I gonna do without that ointment I’m gonna be in pain for a long time.’ I said while laying down.
‘Well we could make an excuse as to why you ran away like you did because you just wanted some alone time. And then we could hide you out here while you get better’
There was a knock on the door.
I widened my eyes in panic.
‘Who is it?’ Jasmine said.
‘It’s Jaco, Simon, Jake, and Newt. Let us in.’
‘Should we?’ Jasmine asked.
‘Hold on.’
I went into the bathroom.
They opened the door and I heard four pairs of footsteps go into the room.
‘Hey what’s up? Demon runs off and then you two disappear. What’s going on?’
‘Oh she needed some alone time so she came here. She left a while ago to the river, I think she wants to be left alone for a while, you know.’
‘Oh ok well come on the fighters wants everybody to go too the dining hall to have a victory dinner.’
‘I thought Demon beat them up. How can they still walk?’
‘They have this special stuff they put on to heal their wounds and bruises.’
‘We’ll be there in a little bit.’
I heard the door shut.
‘Demon come on they’re gone.’
I got up slowly and went into the my room and laid down on my bed. I winced as I bent down to sit on my bed.
‘Oh god. How long do you think you guys can cover for me?’ I asked closing my eyes.
‘Maybe until tomorrow but by then the counselor will get suspicious.’ Jasmine said.
‘Might as well go to the dining hall then there’s no point of me hanging around here.’
I got up and walked normally over to the door. It hurt a lot but I was able to deal with it since I’ve been through worse.
Rachel, Jasmine, and I walked to the dining hall were everyone watched as we made our way to a table.
‘How you holding up?’ Rachel whispered to me.
‘Pain lots of pain but I’ve been through worse so I can bear it but we’re gonna have to leave early.’
‘K. I’ll tell Jasmine.’
We finally got to a table and sat down. I had every urge to wince but I didn’t.
The guys came over and sat with us. A lot of people came over to congratulate me.
I was still in pain but I was dealing with it until I felt four people pat me on my back.
‘Hey winner.’ the guys I fought said.
‘Hey how’d you like being beaten by a girl?’ I teased.
‘It’s a change for one.’ Ricky said.
‘Hey what’d you do about your injuries?’ William said.
‘I um, I put some ointment on them to help heal better.’ I lied.
Rachel and Jasmine glanced at me but nobody noticed.
‘Hey Demon will you come with me, you too Rachel.’
We all went outside and I let out a breath I didn’t know I was holding in.
‘How are you doing Demon?’ Jasmine asked.
‘I swear I am ready to punch someone in the face.’
My cell phone rang and I saw that it was Hunter calling. My eyes widened in panic. I answered it.
‘Hey.’ I said casually.
‘What’s wrong?’ he asked.
‘How do you know if something’s wrong all I said so far is hey.?’
‘Come on we’ve been going out for 6 months. I practically know you and I know when you’re hiding something cause you’re stalling right now.’
‘I’m not hiding anything I’m just not in the mood to talk I’ve been having a bad day.’
‘What happened?’
‘Just got in a verbal fight with an asshole and I got angry at someone cause they wouldn’t leave me alone.’
‘Ok well talk to you before I go to sleep.’
‘K talk to you later.’
I hung up.
‘You’re good at lying.’ Rachel said.
‘It was hard cause he knows me.’
I sat down on a rock.
‘What am I going to do?’
‘We better go back before they come looking for us.’
We went back to the group of guys waiting for us. Rachel and Jasmine sat down while I stayed standing up.
‘How bout we celebrate with dinner?’ Pepe said.
‘Oh I’m just gonna go back to my room I’m feeling kind of tired.’ I said then left before anyone had time to talk.
In my room I laid down and took a nap.
I woke up to Jasmine shaking my arm.
‘Demon wake up.’
I opened my eyes to see her staring at me.
‘You were talking in your sleep.’
‘What time is it?’
‘Almost three a.m.’
I sat up so fast I almost yelped because of the pain but I covered my mouth with my hand in time.
‘I can’t get out of bed. It’ll hurt to much.’ I said.
‘We have to tell the counselor.’ Jasmine whispered.
‘No.’ I said sharply.
‘No one can know except you and Rachel if anyone else knows then I won’t learn to deal with this kind of thing.’
‘You’re tough.’
‘Thanks.’
‘Come on Rachel is meeting us by the river in ten minutes. That’s another reason why I woke you up.’
I got out of bed and changed into some clothes. Jasmine and I silently slipped out of our cabin and went to the river where Rachel was already there.
I couldn’t walk anymore. I felt more pain than I thought I would.
I fell to my knees.
‘Get the counselor.’ I said. Jasmine left to get the counselor while Rachel helped me lay down on the ground.
Jasmine came back ten minutes later with our counselor behind her.
‘They’re right there.’
Scott bent down next to me.
‘What’s wrong? I get woken up by Jasmine here telling me I need to hurry.’
‘Hurts.’ I said.
‘Where?’
I shook my head.
‘Help me up Rachel, Jasmine.’
They helped me up. They put my arms around their shoulders so they can carry me back to the room. While we went to the cabin, Scott asked questions and more questions until we got there. Rachel and Jasmine helped me up to my room and helped me lay down in my bed.
‘Tell me where it hurts.’ Scott said.
I shook my head.
‘She doesn’t want anyone to know where it hurts except for me and Rachel. I think she’s trying to ask you if you have anything for pain.’ Jasmine said.
I nodded my head.
Scott left and came back with a first aid kit.
‘Leave.’ I said.
He left. I sat up and put some ointment on my bruises and then I laid down.
‘Whatever you do don’t let anyone come in this room or tell anyone.’ I said weakly then passed out.
I woke up to the sun shining in my eyes.
I felt bad. I looked around the room to see I was all by myself. The door opened and I snapped my head to see who it was.
Jasmine and Rachel were shouting at someone then slammed the door shut.
‘Finally you’re awake everyone wants to know what happened to you. They heard us come in last night and now they’re all worried about you.’ Rachel said.
‘Tell them I’m tired and want to be left alone. I hurt myself while walking to the river. That way they won’t get suspicious.’
‘But then Scott will want to see if your injured’
‘Tell him if he touches me I’ll bite his hand off. I don’t know say anything that will let me off the hook anyways I’m well enough to walk now so there won’t be any suspicious activity and anyways maybe now I can put some of my own ointment cream stuff to put on my bruises.’
‘ok I’ll go give the first aid kit to Scott’
Jasmine went out and Rachel got my cream stuff while I sat up.
I rubbed it on all my bruises. This time I didn’t feel weak at all.
‘This is not how I wanted to spend my camp days.’
‘I think you should confess.’
‘Do you know what that will do to me? I will have to go to the hospital and then my parents are gonna be ashamed of me because I couldn’t fight and anyways if I leave now I will never hear the end of it from my brother.’
‘Man you got it tough at home’
‘No I don’t but it feels tough to me.’
Jasmine came running in. She slammed the door shut.
‘The guys are coming hurry stand up so they see you’re all right’
Jasmine stepped out of the way just as the door burst open. I jumped out of bed.
‘Ok what’s all this talk about you being hurt.’ Jaco said.
‘I fell and hurt my stomach. I couldn’t walk so I got Jasmine to tell the counselor to come. Rachel and Jasmine got me back here in one piece and then I told Scott to get the first aid kit and he did and now I’m all right I put some of that ointment stuff for bruises.’ Ok so it wasn’t the whole truth.
‘Lift up your shirt.’ Newt said.
‘Why?’
‘to see if you’re telling the truth.’
‘I am Rachel and Jasmine have seen.’
‘We have to see for ourselves.’
‘Jasmine shut the door and lock it and if any of the guys try to run out the door and tell the counselor give them a good punch to the gut.’
I lifted my shirt up so they could see the bruises. They were stunned at what they saw. I put my shirt back down and sat down.
‘That looks more serious than you said.’
‘That’s because it was from the fight, that’s why I ran out, I needed to put some of that ointment stuff and when that didn’t work I just left it alone until today.’ I looked at the floor.
‘Hey why didn’t you tell us you know we can keep a secret?’
‘Actually I don’t, I barely know you guys so I could only trust Rachel and Jasmine cause I couldn’t stop them from barging in. I can’t tell anyone cause I have to learn to deal with it but I’ve been through worse so I can deal with it.’
‘Worse?’
‘Come on my bro taught me at my house. We practiced when my parents were gone and I broke my arm a lot of times, my legs, my ribs, my nose, and my neck when I was practicing a jump and accidentally landed on my neck.’
My phone rang. It was my brother. I answered it.
‘Hello’ I said bored.
‘You still mad at me?’
‘Mad at you I’m furious. Oh just wait till I get home.’
‘Come on it was a good thing.’
‘Not really and anyways we haven’t even started anything with fighting.’
‘Actually we are gonna start our first fighting session tonight’ Simon said.
I held up my finger and shushed him.
‘See.’ Damon said.
‘How come you’re not here?’
‘Because I am not as dangerous as you.’
‘I am not dangerous!’
‘What about those guys you beat up?’ Jake said.
‘You beat someone up!!!’ my brother yelled.
‘Thanks a lot Jake.’ I said angrily
‘ I did not beat someone up I was in a competition and may have hurt the guys pretty badly but I only did it cause I got tired of them beating me up and anyways they can still walk.’
‘Barely.’ Jaco muttered.
I gave him a glare.
‘well if it was competition then ok but be more careful the next time they could literally hurt you because they would probably be mad at you.’
‘Nah I had dinner with them and they seemed fine being beat up by a girl.’
‘They were guys!!!!!!!! All of them!!!’
‘Yes.’
‘Demon…’
‘Don’t say it I know guys are stronger and tougher than girls and can beat me up as if I was the prey and they were the predator.’
‘Hey that is so not true I can beat up a guy easily if I wanted to!!!!!’ Rachel yelled. ‘give that phone to me and let me give him a piece of my mind.’ Rachel said angrily.
‘See what you do Damon you make girls mad.’
‘Hey how was I supposed to know other girls are in there with you.’
‘Ummmm maybe because I have a girl as a roommate and that I make friends with dangerous people.’
‘well I better hang up before she comes onto the phone, bye.’ Damon said then hung up.
A siren went off. We all ran out and went outside. There was a huge crowd of people there already waiting and I noticed some of them from DragonQuest. I started to walk to them but the guys held me back. I got out of their grip and went to them. I saw Josh, Nicole, Gary, Kate, J’mar, and Susie. Apparently they still remembered me because they greeted me as if I was an old friend.
‘Hey Demon how’s it going?’ Nicole said.
‘It’s going good. Why are you guys here I thought you would be at DragonQuest training.’
‘We were called out to help with the fighting tonight. Apparently they need some strong people to look after you guys or you might get carried away and accidentally kill each other.’
‘I wouldn’t kill anyone except maybe my brother.’
We laughed and then the director came over to us.
‘Ah Demon I suppose you know them since they come from your town. Now I want all of you including Demon to go over to the clearing, Demon knows where it is so she can lead you, and wait for the all the fighters there. You will all be fighting each other as an example of how to do it nice and clean and nothing hurtful.’
‘Wait why Demon?’ Josh asked.
‘Well I presume she would be going with you guys since she beat the four top fighters in the county.’
They all stared at me. I smiled.
‘Now go now and you won’t be late.’
I lead the way to the clearing. We walked in silent. When we got there we waited for all the fighters.
They finally came ten minutes later and there were a bunch of them. There were about more than a hundred kids I think. We went up into a tree so we can make a grand entrance. I used to do this all the time. Flip out of a tree and land perfectly.
When the director introduced us we each took our turn flipping out of the tree. I made a perfect flip and landed on my feet.
‘Ok now they are going to be showing you moves that won’t hurt anyone or damage someone.’
I didn’t participate because I had no partner and because I just wanted to watch.
‘Now Demon will be showing us moves that could possibly kill someone.’ the director said.
I looked at him stunned as did everyone else. We all went to the director and I had to hold my hand from slapping him across the face.
‘I don’t think that would be a great idea and anyways I’m still sore from the beating I got at the fight I was in. I can hurt myself and others around me if I do it.’
‘Yea we don’t think it would be a good idea either cause her brother, the one who taught her, told us he also warned us that she can do things even we can’t do and that it’s dangerous for her to do it cause she hurt herself the last time.’
‘Demon do it now on that practice dummy.’ the director ordered.
I had no choice I went up to the practice dummy. I looked nervously at the group then began. I did simple moves that would hurt anyone and then I started to do more complicated ones that hurt my bruises even with the ointment stuff on it. Then I started doing moved I made up that could a lot of damage to someone. I was scared to do my last move cause the last time I did it I hurt myself really badly. I jumped into the air and did a spin and kick but I turned it into a tornado that whipped the dummy senseless and that’s when I lost control. I got to close to the dummy and I hurt my leg and then when I tried to stop I landed on the ground face down and the worse part was that I there was a hard ground so I hurt my bruises really badly.
I rolled myself over and almost screamed in pain. I sat up and held my stomach. It really hurt now and would take forever to heal. I winced as I stood up. I practically fell over as a wave of pain erupted into my leg and stomach, it was a good thing a tree was nearby or else I would’ve collapsed.
Josh, Nicole, Gary, Susie, J’mar, Kate, Rachel, Jasmine, and the guys rushed over to me.
As I tried to take a step I almost fell but they caught me. I glared at the director.
‘Told you I was gonna hurt myself. I never perfected that move cause I never got a good enough height and speed and these are the results.’ I said through clenched teeth at the director. I got out of their grip and walked back to my cabin. It was painful but I bared with it. I was about to fall when I got to my bed. I laid down and started doing what I did last time this happened. I checked to see what hurt and what not then I bent every muscle and bone no matter how much it hurt. Nothing was broken but I had lots of bruises on my stomach and legs now.
I heard someone come up to my room. I braced myself for who it was. I was surprised to see Damon come rushing into the room with all the stuff I need for my bruises.
‘How you doing? I knew that the director would probably make you do the move anyway so I came rushing here as soon as possible.’
Damon checked my stomach and legs then he put some cream on my stomach and wrapped a bandage around it so the cream stuff wouldn’t come off. Then with my legs he put some ointment that made them sting then they relaxed and I couldn’t feel my legs.
‘Ok as soon as you can feel your legs again put ice on them but only for ten minutes then you can start walking not running but walking and then you’ll just have to wait till the bruises on you’re stomach heal with that cream.’
‘Thanks’
‘No prob now I’m gonna go tell the director of your condition and then I will make sure that Hunter knows, he’s been worried sick about you cause you didn’t answer his call.’
‘Oh tell him I went to sleep early.’
Damon left and I laid there and stared up at the ceiling until Jasmine came.
‘So what’s the deal?’
‘I can’t feel my legs and when I do I have to put ice on them and until then I can’t get out of bed.’
‘What about your stomach?’
‘my bro put some cream on to make it heal and until then it’ll be pure hell for a couple days.’
‘so what are you gonna do till you can feel your legs?’
‘I have no clue. I guess just lay here or get my phone and text.’
‘Well I gotta go I’m meeting them for lunch. I’ll bring you something back so you won’t starve.’
‘Thanks.’ I said then Jasmine left.
An hour later my phone rang and I immediately knew who it was, Hunter. I answered it.
‘Why didn’t you tell me?’ he said
‘I didn’t want you to get worried.’
‘Well your brother just came and told me everything from when he got there and from when he left. When did you get the bruises on your stomach?’
‘Before you last called.’
‘Well why didn’t you tell me then?’
‘I didn’t anyone to know only two people knew cause they barged in on me while I was checking them out, and anyways I didn’t want anybody to know cause I knew they would tell the counselor and then the counselor will tell the director and then I would go to a hospital or go to the infirmary they have here. I didn’t want to get any special treatment.’
‘Well Demon you gotta tell me things like this I am your boyfriend aren’t I?’
‘Of course you are!’
‘Then why didn’t you tell me?’
‘I just said the reason why.’
‘But why didn’t you tell your boyfriend about it?’
I stayed silent for a while.
‘Cause I was afraid of how you would react!’ I finally yelled into the phone and as soon as I said it I knew that was why I didn’t tell him.
‘What did you think that I would think that you couldn’t get into a fight without getting hurt or that you really don’t know how to fight and got yourself beat up on purpose!!!!’ he started yelling too.
‘No I thought that you would think that I wasn’t good enough for you cause I can’t even protect myself in a lousy fight!’
‘Was it a lousy fight!!??’
‘No and yes. It wasn’t cause I beat those guys and yes because they were beating me up first until I had enough and got angry and beat them up for a change. I didn’t stick around in the end cause I ran out and went to my room cause I needed to check how much damage they did!!!. Is that what you want to hear??’
I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. I needed to calm myself before I got to angry and hit something or hurt someone.
‘Well then why didn’t you tell me in the first place!!’
‘Weren’t you listening at all to our conversation over the phone or were you to busy not listening to what I had to say!’
‘well I don’t know cause all I remember is that we started yelling at each other and then we were talking about god knows what.’
‘What do you want to hear from me? I did nothing wrong all I did was keep something from you that I wouldn’t even tell my own brother!’
‘Well maybe that’s your problem you keep things from people and then it all comes out when something bad happens to you.’
‘Well it’s not my fault that I don’t share everything about myself. I’m not used to telling people my problems or sharing anything about myself cause nobody ever understood me!!!’ I yelled into the phone.
‘How do you know that? How do you know if nobody understands you?’
‘Cause I just know.’
‘No, cause you never give people a chance to let them know you for who you are and you keep secrets like this so you never have people tell you what to do!!’
‘Fuck you!!!!’ I yelled at Hunter then hung up.
I was mad at Hunter. Then I realized we just had a huge fight. Tears ran down my face. It was the worst fight yet.
Jasmine came in with a bag of food then she saw me and put the food on my dresser next to me.
‘What happened?’
‘Hunter and I had a fight.’
‘Is this like your first fight with him?’
‘No but it’s the worst one yet. I yelled Fuck You at him then hung up’
‘That sounds pretty bad.’
‘We fought over why I didn’t tell him about what happened to me.’
‘so what are you gonna do?’
‘Ummmm…well first off I’m gonna eat cause I’m starving and second can you get me a bag of ice please cause I’m starting to get feeling in my legs back.’
Jasmine left then came back with my back of ice.
I put the ice on my legs for ten minutes then I ate the food that Jasmine brought for me. She watched tv while I ate. When I finished I threw away my trash then watched tv with Jasmine. I saw Hunter on tv.
‘Turn up the volume.’ I said to Jasmine. She turned up the volume.
‘We have Hunter Niells here the most dangerous fighter we have seen so far. He just beat the number one fighter in this half of the counrty. Tell me Hunter what is your secret to having so much strength.’
‘From my inspiration.’
‘And who would that be.’
‘My girlfriend.’
‘And who’s this lucky ladies name’
‘Raksha but I call her Demon.’
‘She sounds like a very lucky lady’
I smiled.
‘Hunter!’ someone called his name.
A girl came running over and I noticed that it was Lacy.
‘Hey baby.’ she said putting her arm around his waist. I frowned.
‘Is this the lucky Demon.’
‘No.’ Hunter replied.
‘Oh then who is it?’
The girl then kissed him on the lips.
‘looks like Demon isn’t the only one with Hunter.’
Tears filled my eyes. Hunter was cheating on me. He was cheating on me with Lacy. Jasmine turned off the tv.
‘I’m so sorry Demon.’
Tears rolled down my cheeks. I got up and left the cabin. I walked to a hill then I fell to my knees and cried. I cried until I had no more tears left. Then I stood up and walked back to the cabin. I didn’t even bother wiping the tears away. I went back to my room. Jasmine wasn’t there. I sat on my bed.
I just can’t believe that he’s been cheating on me with that slut Lacy. I felt like crying all over again but I held the tears back but they came anyways. Tears rolled down my cheeks. I laid down on my bed and watched the wall.
Jasmine came like three hours later.
‘Demon it’s time for dinner.’
I sat up. I got a sweatshirt and put it on. I put the hoodie on so it covered my face except my mouth cause I need to eat out of that.
I walked in silent. When I got there I ate in silent then I went for a walk. I walked over to my cabin. I froze once I got inside. Sitting on the couch was Hunter. I suspected that he was waiting for me. I went over to him.
I took my hood off so he recognized me.
‘Hey.’ I said.
‘We need to talk.’ he said.
‘yea.’ I stayed standing.
‘I am so sorry for yelling at you over the phone. I never meant to hurt you. I was having a bad day and I guess I expressed my anger to you.’
I looked down at the floor.
‘What’s wrong?’ he asked once he saw the tears in my eyes.
‘You were cheating on me with Lacy.’ I said quietly.
He looked at me stunned.
‘I saw you two on the news like three hours ago.’
‘I can explain.’
‘What is there to explain you were cheating on me with that slut Lacy! When were you gonna tell me?’
‘I never wanted you to know.’
‘how long?’
‘a month now.’
‘How could you do this?’ I said my voice breaking.
‘It was a stupid mistake I never meant for it to get this far but we were just having fun it wasn’t serious or anything we were just fooling around.’
‘Why would you do it?’
‘I wanted to do things that I couldn’t do with you’ he said quietly.
‘Like what?’
‘Have sex, go skinny dipping, make out naked.’ he said in almost a whisper
‘I thought you loved me.’ I said quietly.
‘I do.’
‘Then why did you cheat on me!!’ I yelled. Tears were rolling down my cheeks.
He didn’t answer.
‘Is this some sick way of saying you want to break up?’ I said.
‘Of course not. I want to be with you. You Demon.’
‘Then answer me this, if you loved me then why did you cheat on me?’ I didn’t want to say it but I forced it out.
‘Cause I wanted to be with someone else at the time. But I don’t feel that way anymore. I love you more than ever.’ he tried to touch me but I backed away.
‘Demon please it was a stupid mistake and I will never do it again I’ll end things now.’
‘you’re still seeing her.’ my heart felt like it was broken into a million tiny pieces.
‘yes.’
I started crying. Just then Jasmine and Rachel came through the door and saw me with Hunter. Jasmine led me up to our room while Rachel told Hunter to leave. Rachel soon joined us in Jasmine and mine’s room.
I laid down on my bed and cried until I had no more tears left again.
‘Raksha, are you okay?’ Rachel asked.
‘I feel like my heart is shattered.’ I said in a tiny voice.
‘You loved him a lot didn’t you.’
I nodded my head.
‘Are you two still together?’ Jasmine asked.
‘I don’t know. I love him so much that I just want to be with him even though he’s seeing that slut then another part of me never wants to see him again because of what he did. I thought he loved me and then he goes and cheats on me.’
‘Well what did he say before we came?’
‘He asked me if I wanted him to stop seeing her. Then I asked him if he was still seeing her and he said yes. How could I be such an idiot?’
‘You’re not an idiot he’s the idiot. He was the one who cheated on you.’
‘but I was foolish enough to get into a relationship with him. I don’t even know if we’re together or we’re broken up but I think it’s over.’
‘you want to be alone?’
‘no I need to keep my mind occupied or else I’ll start thinking about him and my heart breaks even more every time.’
‘Ok then let’s go on the midnight hike today at midnight. Come on let’s go ask the director if we can come along.’
We found the director by cabin number eight.
‘Hey director we wanted to ask if we can join the midnight hike?’
‘Of course anyone is invited. At ten o’ clock be at the dining hall and have a pack ready with clothes, water and some snacks and even a blanket, you can never be too prepared.’
We went back to my room and Jasmine and I got packed and then we went to Rachel’s room and waited while she got everything packed and then we went back to my room. I packed my special first aid kit and some other medical stuff that wouldn’t fit in my first aid kit. We hung out in my room till 9:50 and then we went to the dining hall where a lot of people were already waiting.
We hung outside the dining hall. While we waited I got out my phone and texted: I just wanted to know if we’re still together or not but I don’t think we are. I don’t think I could ever forgive you for what you did but I’ll try but I’m not so sure. Don’t bother stopping by cause I’m going on the midnight hike and I won’t be back till late afternoon. I will always love you Hunter.
I sent it then shut my phone shut and but it back in my pocket.
I got a text ten minutes later saying: I just can’t break it off with Lacy. I’m sorry. I will always love you too Raksha.
I gasped cause he never calls me Raksha only Demon. And then I knew we were over. I shut my phone closed. The director came and we started the midnight hike. It was pretty dark outside so we had to walk carefully. Two hours later it was midnight and we were on top of the hilll looking into the view. I smiled as I saw the beauty of nature.
The trees towering over the river that sparkled under the moonlight. There were owls hooting in the night and flying to catch a meal. My smiled faded as I remembered when Hunter and I used to take midnight strolls in the dark.
I walked away and sat on a rock while everyone else saw the beauty in nature.
A guy I don’t know came over and sat down next to me.
‘So how does the night look?’
‘Beautiful.’ I said sadly.
‘Why so sad?’
‘Nothing just something personal.’
‘Boyfriend break up with you?’
I looked at him stunned.
‘I overheard your conversation while I was passing by your cabin.’
‘We were that loud huh?’
‘Don’t be sad. He was a jerk for cheating on you.’
He moved in to kiss me but I pushed him back.
‘What the hell do you think you’re doing?’ I said angrily.
‘Well now that he’s out of the way I thought that now we can be together.’
‘No thanks, I don’t sate jerks like you and I’m still not over him even though we broke up, we just broke up two hours ago dumbass.’
I got up grabbed my pack and went with the others.
He followed me.
He grabbed my arm. I struggled under his grip.
‘Let go.’ I screamed at him. He let go.
I was caught off guard and I fell but unfortunately we were on a hill so I went downhill. I rolled down the hill at a fast past and finally stopped once I reached the bottom.
I got up.
I was ready to punch something right now. I checked to make sure nothing was more bruised. My stomach was already healed but I didn’t take off the bandage and my legs were good. I heard someone yell my name. I look up to see everyone looking at me. I started climbing back up the hill. It was really steep so it took me a while to get to the top and by the time I got to the top I was exhausted.
I fell onto the ground breathing hard from that hard climb. I drank some water. Jasmine and Rachel helped me up.
I started walking back to camp. No one stopped me from walking back the way we came from. I got there in three hours cause I wanted to take my time getting there. I noticed an unusual amount of cars parked right outside my cabin. I knew I was the only one at my cabin that went on the hike but what was all this about. I silently went in. There was a hushed conversation in the kitchen.
I stopped and listened carefully.
‘I hate her.’
‘I know me too she is such a bitch.’
I wondered who they were talking about.
‘She does the stuff on purpose to get attention. I mean seriously who runs away from winning a fight and hurt themselves while doing an easy move.’
They were talking about me.
‘I bet you she does all that stuff so people don’t know her for her brother Damon but as the person who suffers a lot.’
‘I mean seriously she is the worst actor ever.’
I ran up to my room. I knew they heard me cause they shut up immediately. In my room I turned on the tv and watched the news.
Tv reports were on about what’s happening lately and then Hunter showed up on the tv again. I turned up the volume.
‘Hunter Niell is scheduled to fight his girlfriend Demon tomorrow at Camp Victory. I wonder who will win.’ I turned off the tv.
A million questions were racing through my head.
If I’m gonna fight Hunter then that means he is here right now.
I ran to the visitor’s cabin and sure enough Hunter’s car was right there parked and I also saw Lacy’s car. I can’t believe she’s here too. How can he do this. I saw two people in front of a window and I recognized them as Hunter and Lacy. They were making out. Tears rolled down my cheeks. I noticed that Hunter saw me through the window so I ran back to my room and didn’t come out till the fight.
The next day I got dressed in my special fighting outfit. It was made with black fabric that is so flexible and comfortable. I put my hair up in a ponytail with my side bangs hanging out. I put my shoes on and went to the arena where everyone was waiting.
I took my shoes off once inside and got ready by the door. I noticed Hunter and Lacy. I ignored them and stretched while the director talked about what was going to happen.
‘And may I present HHHHUUUUNNNNTTTEEERRRR!!!’ Hunter ran out. I heard a lot of cheering.
‘And now may I present the fearful DDEEEEEEMMMOOOOOONNN!!!!!’ I walked to the ring since I still can’t run. Everyone cheered for me but I showed no emotion at all.
I went to one corner where I saw Jasmine and Rachel. I guess they were acting as my coaches.
I put in my mouthguard then went out into the ring where I stood opposite of Hunter.
I got into my stance. I heard people point and laugh at me because my stance looked incorrect but was very effective. I could move anywhere swiftly and hit hard in this position.
‘FIGHT!’ the director said and Hunter and I started fighting.
Hunter started throwing punches but I defended against them easily. I threw punches in the most odd circumstances like when I ducked I would punch him in the gut right then and there and I would punch him in the chest when I defended one of his kicks. I kicked him time from time again. We were just getting started when the first round was over. I went over to my corner and Hunter to his.
‘How you holding up?’
‘Good. I feel like I have the strength to do anything.’
‘Good now go get that son of a bitch.’ Rachel said.
I smiled and went to the center of the ring.
‘FIGHT!!’
This time I started hitting him. I threw out combinations that I made up and made no sense at all. I was just about to kick him in the jaw when he punched me in the jaw hard. I fell but quickly got up and wiped the blood from my mouth. I punched Hunter in the gut that he doubled over and then I lifted my foot into the air and let it dropped it wasn’t a hard kick but it did what it was suppose to do he fell.
I got on top of him and started punching him. I got up a minute later and circled around him. A lot of people were cheering for me. Hunter got up. He had a bloody nose.
The round ended and I went to my corner.
Jasmine cleaned my mouth then put my mouthguard back in.
It was time for the final round.
I went to the middle of the ring.
‘FIGHT!!’
We were hitting each other so hard that by the time the fight was halfway through we were both pretty banged up.
Hunter punched me inn my jaw so hard I fell. I was so weak that I struggled to get up. Hunter was about to get on top of me when I rolled and then did a handstand.. I don’t know why I did a handstand but I did.
I pushed off the ground with my hands and I collided with Hunter sending both of us to the ground. I got to my knees while Hunter stood up. He was about to do his signature move. I made a quick choice. I stood up and took my mouthguard out and threw it out of the ring. I held up my hands and set my feet firmly on the ground. I saw Jasmine and Rachel look at me as if I was stupid but I had a reason why I did it. I let Hunter punch me in the jaw and that made me fall. I stayed on the floor while the referee counted down. When he got to two I spun on the ground and tripped Hunter but not before kicking him really hard in the gut. We were both on the ground not able to get up.
The referee counted down to three and it was declared a tie. I got onto my knees and breathed heavily. I wiped my mouth were more blood had emerged and was now dripping onto the floor. I stood up. Hunter stood up to and offered his hand for a handshake.
I didn’t even bother with it. I went back to my corner where Jasmine had my mouthguard. As I walked as if I never got beat up because I felt no pain. It was strange but I think it was because of my adreneline. I got the water bottle and drank it all in one drink cause I was really thirsty.
I went to the back where I sat down on the floor and put my head in my arms.
I lifted my head after a while and got up. I was about to leave when Lacy stopped me.
‘Demon I never meant for you to get hurt.’
‘It’s all right Lacy, I was sad at first but I got over it when the incident at the hill happened. I get that you and Hunter are together now and now there’s nothing in the way to make you two official. I hope you’re happy.’
I left before I would cry in front of Lacy. It was true what I said but now ever since I broke up with Hunter every time I see him or hear his name tears come rolling down my cheeks without knowing.
I walked aimlessly through the camp and found a little secret clearing at the edge of the woods. I laid down and watched the sky. I saw storm clouds gathering and before I could get up rain started pouring down.
I got up fast and left the clearing. I went to the dining hall where I saw everyone was running too and since I still couldn’t run I walked in the pouring rain. I saw Jasmine and Rachel waiting for me under the roof.
We went in and sat with the guys.
‘Demon you know you’re soaking wet’
‘I know but it’s only because I can’t run yet I can only walk so I walked for ten minutes in the pouring rain. You try it and see if you get soaked wet.’
‘I’ll take your word for it.’
We all laughed, including me.
I was feeling better now.
‘So what are we gonna do till this rain lets us leave this place packed with everyone who goes here.’ Newt said.
‘Hey is that a ladder over there that leads up to the top?’ Rachel asked.
‘Yep. Why?’ Simon said.
‘Cause I’m gonna show you why people are afraid of me.’
Rachel went over to the ladder and started climbing. At the top she went onto the support bars.
‘Hey come on up it’s fun.’ Rachel shouted to us.
No one made a move so I got up and climbed the ladder and sat next to Rachel.
‘This is fun.’ I said.
‘Wanna jump off?’
‘Are you crazy? If we jump we die dumbass.’
‘it was just a suggestion.’
‘Hey you girls get down from there!’ the director shouted to us.
We both flicked him off. We high-fived each other and laughed.
‘Get down from there now it’s not safe up there.’
‘that’s the point.’ I shouted.
‘get down now or you’ll find yourselves packing to go home.’
We frowned then made our way to the ladder but then there was a creaking sound. I turned around to face Rachel and before I knew it the beam under her fell and she started falling until I grabbed her arm. I was on my stomach holding onto her with one arm while my other arm was holding onto a beam nearby so I don’t fall with her.
Rachel swung there. With all the strength I had left in me I pulled Rachel up next to me. She got off the beams as soon as I pulled her up but I lagged behind cause she took all my strength from me.
When I finally got down I went over to Rachel where she was with the guys, and Jasmine.
‘What the hell is wrong with you?’ I said.
‘Nothing.’ she muttered.
‘Then why the hell did you go up there?’
‘Hey you went up there too.’
‘Just incase you fell. I have at least a chance to save you from falling to your death.’
‘Hey don’t get mad at me for my decisions what about you? You chose to go up there. You were the one who made friends with me. You were the one who got sent here so stop blaming me for anything.’ Rachel yelled at me.
Everyone was watching us.
‘If it wasn’t for my brother I wouldn’t be here.’
‘Well then, why don’t you get out of here cause I’m the toughest one here and I can kick your ass all the way back home.’
‘If you were so tough then you will be able to stand up against me in a fight, if you were tough enough you’ll know when to stop pushing me.’ I yelled into her face. My face was only inches apart and my eyes were full of anger.
‘You think you’re tough but you’re not you are not tough. Tough people wouldn’t care what people think of them. Tough people could care less if they hurt someone.’
‘What makes you so tough? All I see is a pathetic wimp.’
I grabbed a chair and threw it at the nearest wall which was ten feet away from us.
‘Who’s tough now?!!’
I stormed out of there. I didn’t want anything to do with anybody. I’m sick and tired of all the crap I’ve had to dealt with since I got here. I went back to my room and packed all my stuff. Into one duffel bag. I packed clothes, medical supplies, food, water, and personal belongings.
I got my coat then went on a little hike. It stopped raining and nobody was out yet so it was my time to move. I ran up the trail and after a good ten yards I slowed down to a walk.
I walked up the muddy trail. It was a good thing I put on my rubber boots before I left and put my sneakers in my duffel. I got to the top of the hill. I looked at the view.
I went down the side and continued going. I kept on walking until I saw a mysterious hole in the ground. I knelt next to the edge and looked down. It was too dark inside so I got out my extra strength flashlight, I shined the light into the hole and what I saw surprised me.
In the hole was a secret tunnel. The tunnel was dark and ominous and I saw a shadow in the tunnel. I shined the light into the tunnel and then I heard footsteps running. I jumped into the hole and followed the heavy footsteps. I ran after them.
I ended up at the end of the tunnel. Suddenly someone grabbed me from behind. I struggled in the strangers grip.
‘Who are you?’
‘What do you think you’re doing down here?’ a guy asked. He sounded like he was seventeen.
‘I’m running away from that infuriating camp.’
He let go and I spun around to face him. Even though it was dark I was absolutely bewildered. He was the hottest guy I ever saw next to Hunter. He stared at me too. I realized I was staring at him so I looked away and picked up my flashlight which I dropped when he grabbed me.
I started walking back to the opening of the tunnel. He followed me. We walked in silence. When we got to the opening I climbed the muddy side to the top. He followed me.
‘Why are you following me?’ I finally asked breaking the silence.
‘To make sure you get back safely these parts aren’t safe after it just rained.’
‘I’m not going back I’m sick and tired of all the shit that I’ve dealt with since I got to that mother fuckin camp.’
‘It can’t be that bad.’
‘Oh you have no clue.’ I sat down on the nearest rock. I looked down at the ground. He knelt in front of me and lifted my chin up I looked into his eyes.
‘Nothing can probably make you break, you seem like a strong confident, tough, brave, girl. Go back there and be who you are.’
‘I can’t be who I am. I can’t’ I said with a shaky breath.
‘Who you are is an angel.’
‘Who I am is a demon.’ I said closing my eyes.
‘Why would you think that?’
‘Cause of how I act, cause of who I am Demon Night.’
‘That doesn’t mean you have to be a demon you can chose who you want to be.’
‘It’s not that easy for me. I am not that strong, tough, confident, brave, girl. I am a fearful, angry, depressed girl. I just broke up with my boyfriend after finding out that he was cheating on me, I am angry at my brother for telling my parents I can fight, I am depressed because I don’t know who I am anymore, I thought I knew who I was but now I don’t. I feel like I’m nobody.’ Tears started rolling down my cheeks.
He wiped them away with his thumb.
‘You are a somebody, you’re just having trouble finding who you are.’
He let go and I stood up. He stood up too. I turned around to walk away but I turned back around at the exact time as the guy and before I knew it we were kissing. My arms were around his neck and his arms were around my waist.
We fell and landed on a dry spot under some branches. We kept on kissing. He was on top of me but he was holding himself up so he won’t have to put all his weight on me. My hands were around his neck pulling him to me. I knew that we both wanted the same thing as we were kissing. A loving relationship.
We both stopped after a while. We were both breathing hard. He was lying next to me.
‘I’m Gabriel.’ he said.
‘Hey. What are you doing out here?’
‘I’m camping with my friends.’
‘Cool.’
‘So Demon where’d you learn to fight?’
‘My brother taught.’
‘Is he older?’
‘No twin. He trained me while he was being trained himself.’
‘Nice, I have an older brother, he came on the camping trip.’
‘I hate my bro.’ I said sitting up.
‘Why?’ Gabriel said sitting up.
‘He told my parents about how I can fight, remember I told you I think.’
‘If you did I probably wasn’t listening. Sorry.’
I smiled.
‘So I feel bad cause you just broke up with your boyfriend and I jump on you.’ Gabriel said looking away.
‘We broke up two days ago. I found out he was cheating on me from the tv. He came over to the camp because he was scheduled to fight me but while he was here I forced myself to let him know I know and then we broke up. I was sad at first but I’ve been feeling better each minute without him. I now realize that the feelings I had for him are fading away.’
‘So when we kissed you didn’t think it was because I felt sorry for you?’
‘No.’
‘Well what about now?’
He kissed me softly on the lips.
‘Hmmmm….. I don’t know why not try it again?’ I said. He smiled and kissed me again on the lips.
‘Nope.’ I said. We both laughed and smiled.
‘You are the most beautiful girl I have ever met.’ he said.
‘You are the hottest guy I have ever known.’ I said.
‘You have to go back to camp.’ he said.
‘I don’t want to go back.’
‘Do it for me, please.’ he pleaded.
‘On one condition, I meet you again here at midnight.’
‘Deal.’
We got out from under the branches and I turned to go but not before he kissed me. I walked back the entire way. It was after dinner by the time I got back. I walked with confidence up to my room.
Jasmine was in there pacing. She hugged me once she saw me in the doorway. I closed the door and pried her off of me.
‘Oh my gosh Demon where’d you go? Everybody has been worried sick about you. Some people went out to look for you but then they had to come back because the path was too muddy.’
‘I’m okay. I was mad so I left for a little while but now that I have cleared my mind I am now relaxed and cooled off.’
‘So what did you do out there?’
‘Ok but you have to promise not to tell anyone.’
We sat on my bed.
‘Tell me. I promise.’
‘I met a guy out there.’ I said with a big smile.
‘Are you serious?’
‘Yep. He is insanely hot. We met while I was exploring a tunnel. We are gonna meet at midnight by the tunnel.’
‘Oh my gosh that is so romantic.’
‘I know.’ I grinned.
‘So are you gonna tell anybody else?’
‘No I’m only telling you cause I have to tell someone.’
‘You only have five hours till you go so you better get ready.’
‘ok.’
I changed clothes cause mine were all muddy. I brushed my teeth cause I felt like it and I put my hair up cause it was all desheveled. I went to sleep at ten like everyone else but I put on the alarm clock on my phone for eleven-thirty cause it takes half an hour to get there. I slipped out quietly and made my way back to where we were making out. I stood there looking for him.
Someone grabbed me from behind and spun me around. I recognized Gabriel at once and smiled. We started kissing. We went under the branches and this time I was on top. We were getting pretty serious when a noise interrupted us. We both sat up. Then we heard an owl and relaxed. I took out my phone and checked the time. It was getting late or should I say early.
‘I gotta go.’ I said.
‘But we only just got started.’
I got a text. It said: You gotta get back-Jasmine.
‘I gotta go. If I don’t then they might kick me out.’
‘And then I won’t be able to see you again. Go and tomorrow at midnight we’ll meet again or sooner. Keep a look out by the trees.’
I gave him a goodbye kiss then I ran back to my room. I got in just as I heard some movement in another room. I slipped in silently and laid down on my bed. I went to sleep.
Jasmine woke me up three hours later. She looked anxious.
‘So tell me what happened between you and that guy?’
‘Nothing we just kissed a little.’
‘Really? How good of a kisser is he?’
‘An awesome kisser if I say so myself.’
There was a knock on the door and I immediately laid down and faced the wall away from the door. I pretended I was asleep. Jasmine opened the door and talked a little then closed the door.
‘Demon wake up!.’ Jasmine shouted into my ear. I opened my eyes and acted as if I just woke up. It was a good thing I changed into my pajamas before I went to sleep.
‘What?’ I said groggily.
‘Someone is asking for you at the front cabin.’ a guy said. I got out of bed.
‘I’ll be there in a little bit.’ he left and I quickly got changed.
I went to the front cabin. At the front cabin I went inside to find a secretary there. I went over to her. From the way she was looking at me I knew she was expecting me.
‘Demon someone here has something for you.’ she mentioned to some chairs I haven’t noticed before. Sitting in one of the chairs was Gabriel. I acted as if I knew him but not as if I was in love with him or liked him.
‘Yea I just came to give you this. Someone told me to give you this I think it was your friend or something I just came as a messenger.’ he handed me a cardboard box.
‘Thanks.’ I said then he left.
I went back to my room where I locked the door behind me. I made my way back to my bed where Jasmine accompanied my.
I opened the box. Inside it was a piece of paper. It said:
I can’t wait to see you soon. I’ll be thinking about you till then. I don’t know if I can wait till midnight so here’s a little treasure map and at the x you’ll find a great treasure. - Tunnel
I smiled and then I found another piece of paper with some directions on it.
‘Time to find my treasure.’ I said with a grin then left. Jasmine cheered me on while I left.
It said to go to the cabin where I received the box and go behind the cabin. Behind the cabin I walked onto the path until I found a log that blocked my path. Then I walked onto a little narrow dirt path that you could barely see until you got to a short tree. At the short tree I took ten steps to the right then turned to my left and walked straight till I got to a tiny clearing where trees surrounded it like a wall. I saw Gabriel standing there with a smile. I smiled and went to him.
‘I knew you would find me.’
‘Why wouldn’t I?’
‘I don’t know maybe because you’re still not over the guy that cheated on you.’
‘I haven’t thought of him since I met you. You’re different than him. In a good way though.’
‘Well I wanted to give you something so you never forget me.’
He took out a bracelet. It was really beautiful. It was a charm bracelet with twelve charms on it. They were numbers.
‘I don’t know what to say.’ I said lost for words.
‘Just say that this makes us a couple. And that when camp is over we go on an official first date just the two of us.’
‘Of course.’
I threw my arms around him and gave him a hug.
We stayed in each others arms until I saw how late it was.
‘I gotta go. See you tonight.’ I left back for camp. I got there just as lunch started and I caught up with Jasmine where I showed her the bracelet and she squealed in excitement.
We sat with Rachel and the guys.
‘No hard feelings?’ Rachel said.
‘No hard feelings.’ I assured her.
‘Hey cool bracelet where’d you get it?’ Jake asked.
‘Someone sent it to me. I don’t know. A package came for me and when I opened it this bracelet was in it and nothing else.’ I lied. Jasmine was good at hiding her smile.
I saw Hunter and Lacy sit down at a table at the other side of the room.
‘Umm…How come they’re still here?’ I asked.
‘Oh they were accepted into the camp yesterday and now they are campers here. I don’t even know why they call this a camp for controlling how to fight cause we don’t do anything except hang out.’
I ate my lunch thinking about Gabriel.
‘Attention Campers. Attention Campers.’ The director said. Everyone got silent.
‘Tonight we are gonna have a campfire. Be there and have an excellent time.’
The director left and the dining hall erupted in conversation about the campfire.
I finished my lunch and went outside. Jasmine followed me.
‘So are you gonna meet up with this guy at midnight.’
‘Oh yea. I’ll have to leave early from the campfire so you’ll have to cover for me this once. Please.’ I begged.
‘All right.’ she finally said.
‘Thank you.’ I said then hugged her.
‘You really like this guy don’t you?’ she asked after a while
I nodded my head unable to speak.
‘Well come on you have to get ready and if you’re lucky you’ll get to stay a little while longer.’ we went to my room and got ready for the campfire. We both changed into something casual but also hugs our curves and make us look hot. I changed into some black skinny jeans and a red shirt. I put my hair up. Jasmine put on some shorts and a tank top.
Finally it was time for the campfire. Dinner was gonna be served at the campfire. We sat with Rachel and the guys. We were getting our food when Hunter and Lacy got into line behind us. I ignored them and focused on getting some food. I got a hotdog, some chips, and a bottle of water.
I ate my food. I drank my water last. Then came around the smores. It was getting dark. I ate one and then denied any others. I looked at the time on my phone and saw that I only had a half an hour left then I had to go meet Gabriel.
I was getting ready to leave when Jaco suddenly stopped me.
‘Where are you going?’ he asked suspiciously.
‘I’m gonna go into the trees. I’ll be back in a little while so don’t worry I can handle myself.’
‘Yea right. From your past experience I would say you would get hurt the minute you leave.’
‘Bye.’ I said then went walking to the spot.
I walked for a half an hour and then got there. Gabriel was waiting for me under the branches. I sat next to him.
‘So what were you doing that kept you away?’
‘Campfire, friends, want an explanation where I go.’
‘What did you tell them?’
‘I’m going to take a walk into the woods and be back after a little while so I can’t stay for too long.’
‘Well then let’s get started.’
We started making out. An hour later I had to go.
‘I have to go.’ I said between breaths.
‘I wish you didn’t have to.’
‘If I don’t go then they’ll come looking. I gotta go.’ I said breaking off our connection.
‘I’ll see you tomorrow. I’m gonna be waiting behind your cabin.’
‘What do your friends say about you leaving all the time?’
‘They don’t they’re either with their girlfriends or are out exploring so right now they would be exploring.’
I smiled then said goodbye and left back to the campfire. Everyone was still there. I sat with my friends. I did a ‘I told you so’ smile at Jaco.
‘So what did I miss?’ I asked.
‘Nothing we’ve just been talking about how tomorrow we get a free day off and we get to go to the city.’
‘Really, cool.’
‘Yea.’
‘Are you coming with us to the city?’ Newt asked.
‘I don’t know maybe I’ll just hang out here cause I need to catch up on my reading but then again I might go but later on.’
‘Ok.’
‘You’ve been acting happy after your break up.’ Newt said.
‘What did you think? That I would stay sad and depressed all my life. Nope. I’m learning to just letting my feelings for him go and even though it’s not easy I’ll get through it.’
‘Good for you and maybe now you will get another guy for you.’
‘Yea I’ll wait till I get back home you never know who lives where?’
I don’t even know where Gabriel lives, I thought. I’ll ask him tomorrow.
‘It’s getting late I better get to sleep.’
I went back to my room. I changed into my pajamas and went to sleep.
The next day I woke up to find that Jasmine has already left for the city. I looked at the time, it was 10:00 a.m. I got dressed. I went out to the back of the cabin where I went over to the trees. I stepped in then stopped as I spotted Lacy and Hunter watching me. I waved at them and went in. I only went a few yards before I met up with Gabriel.
‘Ready?’ he said.
‘Ready for what?’ I asked.
‘I am going to take you into the city. I wanted to know if you could come?’
‘Of course I can because today we have a free day so we can do whatever we want.’
‘Great now lets get going my car isn’t too far from here so we can be at the city in half an hour.’ we headed off for Gabriel’s car.
We got there in fifteen minutes. He had a lamborghini. It was black with a red streak in the middle going up and down. I got into the passenger seat. We set off for the city. When we got there we went to the park and recreation center. He parked into a parking space and we got out. We walked along the river.
‘So I was wondering where you lived? If we’re going to be together I want to know that you’re not living in another country.’ I said cautiously.
‘Actually I live at Hadenville.’
‘Are you serious I live at Orion.’
‘That’s only like twenty minutes apart.’
‘This is going to work out great.’
‘Why does it matter where I live?’ Gabriel asked.
‘Well if you lived like across the u.s. I don’t know how this will work because we’re gonna be so far away and we won’t be able to see each other.’
He smiled which made me smile.
We walked some more and then we went back to the car.
He drove for a while until we got to a fast food restaurant. We went in and ordered some large fries. We sat at a corner table and ate some fries. We soon started a game of who can catch the most fries in their mouth in a row. I only got up to twenty when I missed. The score was twenty to nineteen.
‘I win.’ I said.
‘So since you when what do you get?’
‘I don’t know yet I’ll tell you when I think of it.’
Hunter and Lacy came into the fast food restaurant.
‘So what do you want to do now?’ Gabriel asked.
‘I don’t know. What time is it?’
‘Um almost 3.’
I threw a fry at him.
‘Hey what was that for?’
‘Hmmmm.. What are you talking about?’ I teased.
‘Oh it’s on.’ we started throwing fries at each other until we were all out. I had fries in my hair. I took them out and threw them into the trash. I went to the bathroom to check to see if I had any more fries left in my hair. As I got the rest of the fries out of my hair Lacy walked in and stood next to me.
I finished and I was washing my hands.
‘So who was that guy you were just with?’ Lacy asked.
‘Just someone.’ I said.
‘He is pretty cute but not as hot as Hunter. You must be dropping your standards.’
‘Who said we were together.’
‘It’s obvious by the way you two act. Is this some scheme to piss of Hunter or get him so jealous that he’ll go back running to you?’ Lacy faced me.
‘I could care less about Hunter. That guy and me are just friends for your information. So stop talking now or get ready to go to hell.’
I was at the door ready to grab the handle.
‘You should learn to get a life and stop meddling in other peoples.’
I turned around to face her.
‘You should learn to get a life bitch.’ I said harshly then went out to Gabriel.
I sat down. I noticed that Gabriel threw away the trash.
‘Can we go?’ I said.
‘Yea sure. Let’s go.’ we went out to Gabriel’s car.
‘What’s wrong?’ Gabriel asked. We were sitting in the parking lot in his car.
‘Nothing just some things that a certain person said that pissed me off.’
‘I’m guessing it was the girl that is sitting right there looking at us.’
I saw through the window and sure enough Lacy and Hunter were glancing at us.
‘Yep.’
‘And I’m guessing that’s the ex.’
‘Yea.’
‘Don’t worry we’re together now.’ I looked and him and smiled.
‘Let’s go. I want to show you something.’
Gabriel drove for a while till we got to an abandoned park.
We got out and Gabriel led me over to some trees. Behind those trees was a river. Nobody else was there.
‘Why did you bring me here?’ I asked.
‘Because of this.’ he led me over to the river. In the river was the most precious stone I have ever seen. It looked beautiful and there were little fishes swimming around it.
‘It’s beautiful.’
‘I found it a while ago.’
‘so now what do you want to do?’ I asked.
‘Ummm…. We could go check out the mall it’s supposed to be huge.’
‘Let’s go.’
We went back to the car and went to the mall. It really was huge.
We went in and started walking around.
‘So why is a girl like you so interested in fighting?’
‘It comes naturally for me. I like to make up moves on my own but the one I’ve been working on, is so complicated that I can’t get it.’
‘What do you have to do to get it right?’
‘I have to get the right height and I have to be fast enough or else I hurt myself. I tried at camp once and that just made me hurt more.’
‘More?’
‘Yea I was in a fight earlier and that pretty much messed me up but I’m okay now.’
My phone rang. It was Damon. I answered.
‘Hello Damon.’ I said.
‘Hey Demon can you do me a favor?’
‘Tell me what it is first.’
‘Kick Hunter’s ass and tell me who that guy is, the one walking with you?’
‘How do you know……’ I started
‘I saw the news and I’m in the store.’ he interrupted.
‘ummmm….Broke up with Hunter and we just met.’
‘Can you pass me the phone to him?’
‘Now why would I do that?’
‘To see if he’s good enough for you.’
‘I can judge for myself now bye oh and I already kicked Hunter’s ass when we were scheduled for a fight, it was a tie.’
I hung up.
‘Brother?’ Gabriel asked. I nodded.
‘Where is he?’ he asked.
‘In the store probably spying on us.’
‘Want to lose him?’
‘It’s like you read my mind.’
I walked fast. We were weaving through the crowd when I saw Hunter and Lacy in the crowd. We kept on weaving until we got to clear spot.
We sat down on some chairs.
‘Think we lost him?’ Gabriel asked
‘Oh yea.’
I saw a fighting store. I got up and went inside while Gabriel followed.
I went over to the boxing gloves, black tape, medical supplies section.
‘You know I can fight too.’ Gabriel said catching me off guard.
‘Really that’s cool.’
‘Yea but nobody knows cause I don’t want to be known as a fighter.’
‘I know exactly how you feel.’ I said.
‘Let’s go back to your camp cause I want to show some moves.’ All right.
We went back to camp where Gabriel was allowed as a visitor. We went into the arena.
We went into the ring.
‘Okay now I’m gonna rush you, now try to defend.’
He came at me full speed but instead of rushing to hit me like I thought he was gonna do he jumped over me and got me from behind. I fell. I got back up.
‘Whoa that was awesome.’ I said.
‘I taught myself that one when I was watching tv.’
‘All right now my turn.’ I said. ‘I’m gonna do the move I was talking about at the mall. I’m not gonna do it to you cause then I could break you so stand back.’ Gabriel got out of the ring.
I stretched then started. I did some combinations to get me pumped up then I jumped in the air and did a spin and kick then I turn into a tornado but then again I fell and hurt myself. I got up.
‘I can’t get the right height and I’m not fast enough.’ I said.
‘The problem is that I went faster than last time.’ I tested my limbs. They were all right but I felt a little sore on my stomach.
‘That move takes a lot of strength.’ he said getting back in the ring.
‘I need to get stronger.’
‘I have an idea.’
‘What?’ I asked.
‘Start running and if and when I catch you then you have to do the move right then and there.’
I started sprinting. I ran out of the arena and that’s when Gabriel started chasing me. He was behind me about a couple yards away. People watched as Gabriel chased me. I was starting to feel tired but I kept up with my speed. I would not let him catch me. I noticed that he was starting to slack off but that didn’t stop me. I ran to the dining hall. Inside I ran across the tables. Gabriel chased me. I went out the back door and ran along the river. I saw my friend there.
‘Hey Demon whatcha doin?’ Simon asked.
‘If can’t let him catch me. If he does I have to do a move I’ve been working on.’ I mentioned to Gabriel then I saw a tree ahead of me. I went faster. I ran up to the tree jumped off from the side and grabbed the nearest branch. I climbed the tree to the very top. Gabriel saw me and stopped at the base of the tree.
‘Ah come on that’s not fair.’ he complained.
‘You never said anything about trees.’ I said.
‘Well you’ll have to come down sometime.’ Gabriel said then sat down. I laid down in between these branches that were shaped like a bed. I was getting comfortable when I heard a noise underneath me. Gabriel was climbing the tree. He was about to catch me when I jumped out of the tree. Since I was really high up in the tree it was a twenty foot jump.
I got ready to land. I landed on my feet. I was unbalanced so I tipped over and fell onto the ground. I got up and dusted myself off. I saw Gabriel climbing back down. My friends came over to me.
‘Whoa that was an awesome jump.’ Jaco said.
‘Yep. It was exhilarating.’
I felt someone grab me from behind and at once I knew it was Gabriel. I turned around and opened my eyes in shock. It was Lacy grabbing me.
‘What the hell do you think you’re doing?’ I said getting out of her grip.
‘I saw you jump out of that tree.’
‘And?’
‘And you are so full of it.’
‘What?’
‘If you think that doing dangerous stuff will get Hunter back you’re wrong.’
‘ I could care less about Hunter.’ I said.
‘Then why’d you jump out of that tree.’
‘So he doesn’t catch me.’ I pointed to Gabriel as he was landing on the ground.
‘Isn’t he the one you were with?’
‘Yea he was showing me some moves.’ I said.
‘Like jumping out of a tree like an idiot.’
‘I did that cause if he catches me I have to do a move that I’ve been working on.’
‘I still think you’re trying to get Hunter back.’
‘Why would I want to go back out with a guy who cheated on me with a slut.?’
She slapped me. I was about to punch her but Rachel held me back.
‘At least I know he won’t cheat on me.’ Lacy said.
I was so mad now.
‘Let me tell you this you pompous little bitch, next time you talk to me about Hunter and I won’t hesitate to put you in the hospital.’ I said angrily at Lacy then left. I stormed back to my room where I slammed the door shut and locked it.
I turned on the tv and laid down on my bed. There was a knock on the door.
‘What do you want?’ I said.
‘It’s me.’ Gabriel said.
‘I’m not in the mood to talk.’ I said.
‘Who said we needed to talk?’ he joked. I stayed silent.
‘Come on just let me in.’
‘Go away I just want to be alone.’
‘Don’t be such a hard-headed person about this.’
I got up and went the door. I opened it.
‘I’m not in the mood to talk.’ I said. I went down the stairs and went out the door to go outside. After a while Gabriel followed me.
‘Come on we need to talk. Don’t let your anger blind you.’
‘I’ll see you at midnight.’ I said then went to the dining hall to get something to eat. I sat by myself and ate in silence. When I got done it was 8 and I had 4 hours. I went back to my room and played with my bracelet. I smiled as I remembered when we first met. A knock on the door interrupted my thought. I opened the door to find Hunter standing there.
‘Can we talk?’ Hunter said and let himself into my room.
‘I want to talk about how you’re trying to get me back.’
‘I’m not….’ I started.
‘I’m with Lacy now and I don’t want to be with you anymore so get that through your head.’
‘I’m not trying to get you back.’
‘Then why are you always following me.’
‘What are you talking about?’
‘In the city how come you were right there at the mall, the fast food restaurant, and at the park.’
‘I didn’t know you were there until I saw you.’
‘Well cut it out cause I will never be with you again.’
‘I’ve moved on so I don’t need you anymore!!!.’ I yelled into his face then left. I ran. I went to the tunnel to meet Gabriel but I stopped and hid when I heard voices.
I hid behind a tree. I poked my head around and saw Gabriel, but he wasn’t alone, he was with another girl. They were kissing intensely. Now I understood why he was always here before I was, he is with another girl. I could I be so stupid to fall for this again. Tears rolled down my cheeks. I took off the bracelet and threw it towards at the back of Gabriel’s head which hit him head on. I ran away as I noticed that Gabriel was looking around.
I ran back to my room where Jasmine was and Hunter had already left. When Jasmine saw the tears she shut the door and locked it.
‘What happened?’ she asked.
‘I saw him kissing another girl.’ I said in a shaky breath.
‘Oh god.’
‘How could I be so stupid?’ I said sitting on my bed.
‘You’re not stupid he is.’
‘But I fell for it again.’
‘What are you gonna do?’
‘I can’t take it anymore. I hate this place. I can’t stand it I’m leaving.’
‘But….’ Jasmine started.
‘Please let me do this, I don’t want to get hurt anymore.’
Jasmine nodded and I started packing.
I took out my cell phone and called my brother.
‘Hey Demon.’
‘Damon.’ I said in a shaky breath.
‘What happened?’ he asked.
‘Can you come pick me up?’
‘Why?’
‘I don’t want to talk about but please can you come get me.’
‘Yea I’ll be there in an hour.’ I hung up and continued to pack the rest of my stuff. When I got finished Jasmine helped me carry my stuff to the front cabin. People watched. When we got there I noticed Rachel and guys were there too.
‘Demon.’
‘I’m leaving My brother will be here soon.’
‘But why?’
‘Jasmine will tell you when I’m gone but right now I just want to say goodbye.’ I hugged each of them then my brother arrived. I got into the car and went home. We didn’t talk for the entire trip. When I got home I went inside while Damon got my stuff.
Damon told my parents I was coming home cause they were waiting for me.
My mom hugged me when she saw my tear streaked face.
‘Oh honey.’ she said then I broke down crying. I cried until I had no more tears left.
‘You want to talk about it?’ my mom asked. I shook my head then went up to my room and went to sleep.
I woke up the next morning. I sat up in bed. Since it was summer vacation there was nothing to do.
I went downstairs to get breakfast and noticed that nobody was in the house. Damon must have gone to train and my parents must have gone to work. I decided to go to Sinister. I got my keys and went to Sinister after changing into some clothes to practice in.
I got there in five minutes cause I was speeding.
I went straight inside.
‘Hey Demon how’s it going?’ Josh asked. I showed no emotion on my face and went over to the training room.
In the training room I did weights and practiced on the punching bag.
When I got done I got a drink and put my head down.
Damon came over to me.
‘So why did you leave camp?’
‘I found the guy I was with cheating on me.’
‘But I thought you broke up with Hunter.’
‘It wasn’t Hunter. It was the guy you saw me at the mall with.’
‘But I thought you two just met.’
‘Yea like three or four days ago but I’ve been sneaking out to meet him in the forest by a tunnel where we met.’
‘How could you be so stupid?’ Damon said.
I slapped him then left. I went back home where I watched tv. I ate lunch. My phone rang as I finished lunch. It was an unknown number. I answered it anyways.
‘Hello?’ I asked
‘Demon hey.’ Jasmine said.
‘Hey Jasmine.’
‘That guy you were with is asking for you.’
‘I don’t want to talk to him.’
I heard her talk to someone which I guessed was Gabriel.
‘He really wants to talk to you.’
‘I don’t want to talk to him. He can go fuck around with some girl.’ I said then hung up.
I was about to put my phone away when my phone rang again. It was another unknown number. I answered it.
‘Demon can we talk?’ Gabriel said.
‘What do you want?’
‘I want to know why you left.’
‘Cause I’m sick and tired of getting hurt at that stupid camp.’
‘But…’
‘I saw you kissing that girl so try not to say anything that’ll convince me to go back like we were going to be together.’
‘Look I’m sorry but my girlfriend…..’
‘You were just using me. I should’ve known better than to fall for a guy in the woods that’s on a camping trip. And after I broke up with my boyfriend how could you use me like that?’
‘Look I was angry at my girlfriend so I went out and met you and I thought that I could get back at her by cheating on her with you. But I never knew that you turn out to be this wonderful girl that gets me so well.’
‘It’s nice to know that you never liked me.’ I said then hung up.
I went up to my room and unpacked my stuff. When I got done I went back downstairs where Damon was. He was talking on his home phone. I was about to go out of the room when he stopped me.
‘Stop right there Demon we need to talk.’ he said. I groaned and went over to him.
‘That was the director of the camp and he said that you are scheduled to go back and do a fight,’
‘I don’t want to go back to that insufferable camp.’ I said.
‘Too bad I just got off the phone with mom and dad and they are heading there as we speak.’ I swore and got my duffel where I packed my fighting clothes and medical supplies.
I went to Damon’s car where he was already waiting. I got in and looked out the window for the entire trip. We got there in a half an hour cause I was supposed to get there early. I saw Josh, Nicole, J’mar, Kate, and Gary were waiting for me. I got out and they surrounded me like bodyguards. A lot of cars were everywhere which meant that this was a public fight.
They led me over to the arena. They dispersed as we went in. I got changed into my fighting outfit and went out to meet Damon. He was waiting for me outside the door. We went out to the ring to see who I was competing against. It was only one person and that person was Gabriel. Damon led me over to a corner. I stretched and did a few warm up combinations. Then the fight began. I noticed Hunter and Lacy watching me.
‘Hello everyone. Today we have a challenger who asked to fight against our very formerly own. I would like to introduce Gabriel Wolfe.’ Gabriel went into the ring.
‘And now it is my honor to introduce the girl that is the toughest I have ever seen Demon Night.’ I went into the ring while almost everyone cheered.
‘Now this is only a two round fight for 1 minute each. Now let’s FIGHT!!!’
I got into my stance. Gabriel started punching me. I let my guard down so he punched me repeatedly for half a minute until I punched him hard in the gut the kick him in the jaw. He fell down but got back up but unfortunately the round ended. I went back to my corner where I checked out my injuries.
I had a couple bruises but that was all. I got back up. I went to the center of the arena and to the center of the ring.
‘FIGHT!!!!!’
This time I started punching and kicking. I was about ready to do a spin and kick in the air when Gabriel did a false move and got me in the back. I fell onto my back but got up immediately. I did a spin and kick in the air but landed on my foot wrong and I twisted my ankle. I clenched my teeth and got back up. We had ten seconds left. I punched Gabriel in the jaw and he fell but got back up as soon as the bell rang. It was a tie.
‘It’s a tie!!’ the director said.
I walked back over to my corner even though it hurt every single time I walked on my twisted ankle. I sat down not able to bear the pain anymore. I took deep breaths.
‘You all right?’ Damon asked
‘Yea, I’m all right’
‘No you’re not what hurts?’
‘Nothing.’
‘Demon.’
‘I twisted my ankle happy.’
He bent down to my ankle and checked it out. He didn’t even touch it and I flinched.
‘You broke it dummy.’ he told me.
‘Yea I know.’
He put on an ankle brace so I don’t move my ankle to much and hurt it even more.
‘Can you walk?’ Damon asked.
‘Yea how do you think I got here.’
‘Ok well come on I’ll help you.’
Damon tried to help me up but I did it all by myself.
‘Let me help you.’
‘No I got it.’ I limped over to Jasmine who was waiting for me.
‘Now what did you do?’ she asked.
‘Broken ankle believe it or not.’
‘You always get hurt don’t you.’
‘Why do you think I left.’
‘Because of him’ Jasmine mentioned over to Gabriel who was with his friends.
‘I don’t want to talk to him. Would you mind helping me go over to the guys and Rachel?’
‘Not at all.’
I limped over to them while Jasmine made sure I didn’t fall down.
‘Hurt your ankle didn’t you?’ Rachel said.
I nodded my head.
We all laughed.
‘Well I’m a go change. Be right back.’
I went over to Damon where he gave me my duffel. I went to the dressing room and changed into some shorts and a tank top. I went out to find Lacy there waiting for me.
‘What the hell do you want?’ I asked.
‘Nice show, fake broken ankle.’
‘It’s not a show.’
‘You sure?’
‘Yea I’m sure.’
‘Ok then if it wasn’t fake it wouldn’t hurt if I did this.’
She kicked my broken ankle. I stayed up for a few seconds then I fell clutching my ankle. It was in some serious pain.
‘YOU BITCH!!!!’ I roared.
She turned pale then ran out.
Tears were coming out of my eyes. I back up to the wall then used it wall to help me up. I cleaned the tears away then washed my face. When I got done I went back out but stopped short when I saw Gabriel and his friends. I looked away as I saw him look at me then I started for the ring where Damon was waiting for me. I limped over there but it took more time cause of Lacy kicking my broken ankle.
‘You okay?’ Damon asked once I got there.
‘Can we just go get a cast on my ankle now before it gets worse.’
‘Yea, Yea come on.’
‘Demon wait!!’ Lacy yelled behind me.
I groaned then turned around to face that bitch.
‘What do you want now?’ I said harshly.
‘Oh nothing I just wanted to do this.’ she slapped me.
That’s where I drew the line. I grabbed her hair from behind her head and drew her close to me.
‘You never slap me.’ I yelled into her ear.
I shoved her away. She fell onto the ground. I turned around and started running away cause I’ve had enough. I didn’t anything to do with this camp anymore. Even on a broken ankle I could run pretty fast.
Damon ran after me but I kept on running no matter how much pain I was in. I ran towards the river and into the little secret clearing I found. Nobody knew where it was because it was do hidden you could only get through by these two broken down trees.
I fell down onto the ground and landed on my stomach. I turned around and looked up at the sky. I sat up thinking about what should I do now. Should I just leave and walk home or should I wait till someone finds me? I didn’t know what to do. I decided to just leave forever and walk home. I made my way out of the clearing and towards the river. I found Damon there waiting. I just walked past him and kept on walking. I found every outside of the arena. I kept on walking as if nothing was wrong. I was at the front cabin before Damon stopped me.
‘Demon what’s going on?’
‘You want to know what’s going on, you want to know what’s going on well here it is I’m leaving this place and I’m never coming back. I’m sick and tired of this place.’
‘Ok I get it you’ve been hurt a lot since you get here but come on get in the car and let me take you to a hospital.’
‘No.’ I said.
‘Your ankle.’
‘I don’t care about my ankle. I don’t care about anything anymore cause you want to know what I learned from being here. I learned that I can’t trust anybody cause in the end I’ll only get hurt, that’s what I learned, so JUST LEAVE ME ALONE.’ I roared into his face then I started walking home. Because of my ankle it took me a long time to get there but I didn’t go home first I went to the hospital. I got there at a late hour but the nurse seeing my condition let me go in first. I got x-rays and a cast for my ankle then I paid for my stuff with my credit card and walked home with crutches. I got home at about midnight and my family was still up.
‘Demon where have you been?’ my dad asked.
‘Walking home from the hospital.’
‘Why?’
‘Cause I can’t trust anybody anymore.’
‘What about fighting?’
‘I am never going to fight again so I guess you got your wish, I have controlled my fighting.’
‘Honey what we meant for you to go was that you don’t beserk and fight anyone you see.’ my mom said.
‘I do have it under control I’ve had it under control since I’ve been little and now I’m not fighting at all.’ I said then went up to my room. Changed into my pajamas, and went to sleep.
I woke up the next day feeling tired. I got up, got my crutches and went downstairs. I went into the kitchen and ate breakfast. I didn’t talk for the whole day. I just watched tv and ate. My phone rang several times during the day but I didn’t pick it up. I went to sleep early.
In the morning I woke up to noise downstairs. It was the weekend and nobody should be in the house. I changed into some pants and a shirt and made my way downstairs. I froze at what I saw.
Everybody from camp, that I made friends with, were here, Gabriel, Hunter and Lacy were here and my parents, and Damon. I went over to the sofa and sat down.
‘Demon come on talk to us.’ Damon said. I stayed silent.
‘Come on you have to talk to someone at some point. You can’t stay silent all your life.’ Lacy said. I flicked her off.
‘Demon why aren’t you talking to anyone?’ Gabriel asked. I stayed silent.
‘She says she can’t trust anyone anymore.’ Damon told Gabriel and everyone else.
‘That’s bullshit.’ Rachel said. Now I decided to speak.
‘It’s not bullshit cause I have trusted people all my life and I’ve always gotten hurt.’ I yelled at her.
‘That’s not true.’ Jasmine said.
‘It’s not is it. Well I trusted my brother to keep my secret and he goes behind my back and tells my parents and they send me off to camp because they think I can’t control fighting even though I’ve been keeping it a secret since I’ve been little, I trusted Hunter and thought that he would never cheat on me but no he goes off and does it anyway, I trusted Gabriel and I find out he already has a girlfriend, I trust Rachel and she does something dangerous and stupid, oh and do I have to mention that ever since I started dating guys they always end up cheating on me for some other girl, that’s why I can’t trust anyone anymore does that answer your question?’ I yelled at everyone then I got my crutches and went up to my room. I went mad. I grabbed stuff and threw them across the room making loud crashes.
I threw picture frames across the room my soccer balls, basketballs, and footballs. I threw all my stuff across the room. When my room was trashed I was still angry. I didn’t know what to do so I punched and kicked the walls. I made a lot of holes in the wall but I stopped once I realized what I was doing. Now I understood why my parents wanted me to go to the camp they were afraid I’ll go beserk and trash everything. I got scared. I went over to my mattress which was on the floor and sat on it and saw what I did. Tears rolled down my cheeks. I put my crutches against the wall and laid down on my mattress.
After a while I heard a knock on the door and the door opening.
‘Is it safe, cause I stopped hearing the noise?’ Damon asked. Apparently nobody else wanted to be the one to face me.
‘Go away.’ I said with tears still coming out of my eyes.
‘But mom and dad…’
‘Just go away tell mom and dad that they don’t have to worry about me anymore, I’m through with everything. There’s nothing left for me to do. And yes it’s all true, I’ve had other boyfriends than Hunter and they all cheated on me in the end. And you wonder why I don’t like to have a lot of friends.’
‘Because you might think that your boyfriend would cheat on you with your friend.’
‘They always do.’ I said.
‘Why?’
‘They always say I’m too intimidating for them, if you want to know my old boyfriends here you go.’ I tossed him my phone.
‘Check out the pictures and see how happy I was with them and look at me now. Do it somewhere else now.’ I told Damon.
He left.
I turned to my side and looked at the wall with many holes I made. I closed my eyes and I took a nap. I woke up and looked around. My room was all clean and my mattress was on my bed. I looked around the room some more and noticed the hole in the walls were still there. My dresser was still in it’s place I noticed something on top of it. I never put anything on top of it.
I got up, grabbed my crutches, and made my way to my dresser. On my dresser was a note. I picked it up and read it. It said:
Demon you do look happy in those photos but are you sure they cheated on you they don’t look like they would do that to you. Anyways we cleaned up your room cause there are too many obstacles in your life already and we needed to clean them up so we made a few phone calls and cleaned up everything in your past life. Old boyfriends have been dealt with did you know they still call you, text you, and send you mail (we found the letters while cleaning up your room). Hunter and Gabriel are still gonna be around though and your friend are back at camp by the time you find this letter. And one more thing I could never forget the day you beat up that kid in first grade for me because he was calling me boogerbrain. Love-Damon
I smiled at the end of the letter.
I went downstairs.
Damon was down there and all my ex-boyfriends, including Hunter and Gabriel. I stood there in the living room stunned.
‘Demon please don’t be mad.’ Damon said.
‘Why shouldn’t I be? You bring in all the guys that hurt me including you.’ I said to Damon.
‘How did I hurt you?’
‘Do you listen to me? You told mom and dad that I can fight.’
‘Anyways, the reason is to discuss something.’
‘No I’m not going through this again I’m done with everything why can’t you just get that through your head.’ I said then I went out the front door.
As I was walking across the street a car was coming but I didn’t see it. It hit me. I rolled onto the hood then fell back onto the road. I heard someone yelling for help and I knew that it was the driver then minutes later I heard running. I was trying to keep awake because my mind was trying to shut down. I didn’t want to die not like this.
‘DEMON DEMON!!!!’ Damon yelled. He got to me.
‘Demon.’ he said softly. I saw tears in his eyes.
‘Damon.’ I said weakly.
‘I never meant to hurt you.’
‘I know. I never meant to hurt you either. I guess I got my wish, I never want anything to hurt me ever again.’
‘When did you wish that?’
‘When I was walking home from the hospital and was done with everything and never wanted to be a part of something again.’
‘Hold on.’ he said.
‘I don’t think I can. I’m holding on with my remaining strength just to talk with you. But I don’t want to die I don’t want to die yet not like this.’ I said then I fainted.
I woke up in a hospital bed. I heard the monitor’s beeping and people snoring. I looked around to see my parents sleeping in chairs and Damon sleeping on the floor apparently on a sleeping blanket. I moved but found myself some limp. I took off the sheet to see the damage. I had a cast covering my whole leg with my broken ankle. I found my stomach covered with bandages. My arms has some bruises on them and I felt my face to find some stitches on my forehead and cheek.
I got cold so I covered myself with the sheet again. The door opened and the doctor came in. He saw me awake and the others asleep.
‘Nice to see you regain conciousness.’
‘I feel awful.’ I whispered.
‘well I wouldn’t be surprised you were really close to death. You put up a hell of a fight. Any normal person would be in the morgue but you, you held on with all your strength.’
‘I didn’t want to die like that, I didn’t want to die with guilt.’
‘That’s a very good reason. Anyways you will be going home today and will be in a wheelchair cause you are not well enough to walk yet.’
‘ok.’
‘As soon as your mom wakes up ask her to help you into those clothes and get you home.’
‘All right. Bye.’
‘bye.’
The doctor left I reached halfway out of my bed and reached for my clothes. I got them and started putting them on then my mom woke up and helped me with the rest. At home my brother accepted me as me and now I don’t really feel like killing him only because I’m in a cast, funny how that works out huh.
