The End Of What Was, The Beginning Of What Is

chchchch. ch. chchchch. chchch. The pencil stopped moving. "What are you drawing?" He looked up to see a familiar face. He grimaced. The pencil was put down gently and the notepad was closed. "Nothing important, I was just making notes." The other person shook his head in slight disbelief and awe. "Your the only person I know who takes notes in the form of sketches." He reached over and grabbed a bulging backpack.

"What are you doing Zander..." He stated more than asked, in a warning tone.

Zander stuck out his tongue. "Were going to be late to our next class."

The fact of the classroom being empty struck him and his eyes widened. He lurched up and knocked back his seat. He ignored it and snatched his backpack from Zander as they ran out of the class. "Crap crap crap!” After running down the hall at full speed, they skidded to a halt between the elevator and the stairs. They both glanced between the stairs and the elevator.

"How about the elevator? It goes straight down and might be faster than the stairs?" he asked.

Zander looked down at the stairs. The college building was 5 floors high, and running/jumping down the stairs with heavy backpacks might be dangerous...

"Sure, lets hurry."

They run into the elevator and press down. As the door started to close when someone sprinted towards them from the bottom of the stairs.

He was covered in sweat, his eyes bloodshot from tears, and urine dripped down his pants. He was 15ft away from them when he tripped. Something jumped over the boy and landed close him. The young man reached his hands towards them. The thing grabbed him and dragged him back towards the stairs. The person clawed desperately at the ground causing his nails to rip up and blood slid over the floor. His terrorized face disappeared, hidden from view as he was dragged down. The doors shut with a small ding! just as his blood-chilling screams filled the building.

Realization In Hell

He and Zander were frozen. Both had their bodies pressed as far away from the door as they physically could. Shaking legs, unsure minds, and short, panicking, breaths. Zander recovered a little and glanced at Chase. Chase was leaning heavily on they rail in the elevator, his hands gripping it hard enough to turn bone white. His face was blank; the only way of seeing the panic on it was his wide eyes staring at the door. His light brown backpack had fallen onto the floor, littering it with textbooks. Pencil graphite was smudged on his paled hands, making them look almost skeletal. Zander Looked back at the door with dawning realization.

"Chase."

Chase startled, and looked at Zander in a half quizzed expression. "What?"

"What floor are we now."

Chase looked at the lights depicting what floor they were at now. "We're on floor 2-" He cut off realizing why Zander had gone into a hard silence. "Fu-! Wait, can we go back up? Can we stop the elevator?!" Chase was frantically looking for something to help. Zander shook his head. "No. This isn’t a NCIS elevator you can just pause when you want. Its normal." Both of them thought unlike this situation... Zander looked at Chase’s back, grabbed it, took out a large textbook, and handed it to Chase. "Don’t suppose you have an AK-47 hidden in that bag somewhere?" Chase took the textbook and held it with two hands, ready to smash. "I wish, but I’m pretty sure that would be illegal. It would be real nice about now." Zander nodded in agreement as he emptied the backpack of all its junk besides one textbook. He positioned himself so he would be able to swing the bag at anything that surprised them. Ding! The door opened.

Limited Knowlege

Ding! The doors opened and something moved. Chase made a half-choked/surprised noise and swung. "Wai-!" The textbook, slammed against the unknown object with tremendous force, caused a large and sickening POP! The unknown object flew hard and fast, making a splotch! and a wet squeal when it slid off something. Zander shuddered. "I was going to say wait, but I see now I was too late."

"Huh?"

"Look at what you swung at."

Chase looked, the elevator light illuminating the rest of the object. It was a body, now missing a head. It had been leaning up against the elevator doors, like the person had tripped, fallen, then turned to look at the attacker a second before death. Blood was covering its entire body, with multiple jagged marks all over. Chase turned green, pivoted around, and barfed up his lunch. Zander chuckled darkly, about to upchuck himself. "Actually, that was kind of impressive..." he muttered. He looked closer. He snickered darkly.

"Chase, come look. Its Carter."

Chase looked up in surprise. "The quarterback?"

Zander and Chase looked at the body. Carter was an asshole on best terms. He was the districts best quarterback and had gotten about 5 acceptance letters from some big shot football teams. Zander had to keep himself from snorting as he commended Chase.

"I have to say, I think you hit his head farther that he could throw."

"As much as I would love to revel in that, we should think a little more about this situation. Carter is fucking strong. No matter who it was, they shouldn’t be able to kill him so easily unless they died here too." Chase looked around. "I don’t know about you, but I don’t see another body lying around here!" He said through gritted teeth.

Zander glanced up from the body and looked into the darkness, unsettled. Not only was another body missing, it was only 1:32 pm yet it was so dark inside. Was something covering the windows? What could it be? It didn’t smell like paint, besides, whatever was covering the windows was spread even and had no streaks. Breaking his train of thought, a clattering noise like bone hitting bone, echoed through the main room. Chase and Zander flinched and immediately grabbed their weapons.

The Exploration Of A World Gone Insane

Chase and Zander grabbed their weapons and listened. The clattering had stopped, but that wasn’t reassuring. Now they had no clue where it came from, or how close they were to it.

Chase shifted. Zander stifled a cough. A few minuets pass. Nothing. "Perhaps we should move? We're sitting ducks here, not to mention the light is like a beacon." Zander mentioned uncomfortably. Chase whipped his head towards Zander. "Are you insane?! At least here we have something behind us-" "SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!" A face appeared upside down above the doorway. "WHOLLY-!" "FUCKING SH-!" Zander and Chase jumped in surprise and dropped their weapons. Cursing loudly, they ran into the dark.

"WHAT IN HELL WAS THAT?" screeched Chase.

"HOW THE FUCK AM I SUPPOSE TO KNOW?" bellowed Zander.

Chase, focused only on running away, did not notice the lunch table in front of him. WHAM! Chase flipped halfway and with legs in the air, ended slamming his head on the table. Hard. He slid down and hit his head again on the floor.

"Nuuunghh..." moaned Chase.

"Dude." stated Zander, almost disbelieving.

"SCHE! SCHE! SCHE!" cried the monster, getting closer.

Zander grabbed Chase’s arm and wrenched him up. They stumbled forward towards the barely illuminated front door. "Chase! Get yourself together or we're both monster food!" Chase shook his head, cause blood from his nose to fly. Leaning forwards, Chase started to run forwards. A hand reached and snatched Zander's hair. "Erk!" It stopped him and started to drag him back. Zander wiggled, trying to escape. Chase clenched his teeth and looked for a new weapon. The dark covered all ideas, but the dim light showed the silhouette of many chairs and tables. Chase grabbed a chair and ran towards the monster. Raising the chair high over his head, Chase slammed it down as the monster turned its head towards him. The chair hit and shattered. The monster staggered and let go of Zander. Helping up Zander, they ran. They slammed into the door, and shoved. Something was preventing the doors from opening all the way, and the monster had recovered.

"Zander go first! We might be able to squeeze through the opening."

"You kidding and leave you here with the thing?!"

"Only for a second, go!"

Zander squeezed through, the door raking across his back and chest. "Done! Now hurry!" Chase started through when the monster grabbed his shoulder. Zander grabbed Chase's arm and pulled. The monster bit into Chase's arm, its teeth sinking deep. Blood pooled up and the monster ripped its teeth out, shredding skin. "AAAAAAAAUGH!" Chase screamed. Zander yanked Chase's arm and pulled him through the gap. Still holding onto Chase, Zander kicked and slammed the door closed. Putting Chase down onto the ground Zander grabbed a root and tied the door closed. Wait, root? Chase groaned. Zander pushed aside that thought, and rushed to Chase. Chase was not facing him, but instead looking over the Chihuahuan Desert. All the plants had grown over 5 times their original size, and tree roots tore through the dirt. Vitex, Desert Willow, Chamizo, Pear Cactus, and many more plants had grown. Zander looked at the huge roots that spread over more of the desert than he could see and traced them. They led back to them. Back to the building. "Whoa." murmured Chase. He was looking up above the building. Zander looked up where Chase was and saw and huge Live Oak tree growing on top of the building.
