CHAPTER ONE

THE BOY WHO BECOMES THE GREATEST

Mea Mwamba, twenty years old, was born on July 3, 1995. He was sitting alone on the king-size bed with luxurious marble walls and floor in his chamber.

Its table was made of sea-colored gems, and gold and red cushion chairs under it.

Though Mea had those expensive material things, he was nothing more than a dreamer.

When birds and horses’ galloping sounds interrupted the silence, he continued to do what he does every other day.

“Lord, thank you for giving me the breath of life. It is not that I am better than those who are in the hospital, homeless, or those who are dead, but your grace. And thank you for giving me another best day like this. In the mighty name of Jesus, I pray. Amen—.” He prayed.

He came to Wamehadiwa, England from Tucson on May 15, 2023. His mentor finds work for him in the palace’s farmyard.

He fell back asleep on his comfortable cushion-able king-size hay bed in the farm mansion’s enormous attic.

Mea sincerely wants to win the tournament of becoming the guardsman, though he is a commoner. Even worse, his fantasy vision of getting closer to the princess.

He is humiliated and made fun of by nobilities, wealthy businesspeople, and monarchs for other kingdoms.

Later, as he was asleep, he felt water dripping on his face.

He woke up but smashed his head against the pail of water which went flying in the air and fell back on his where water drenched in that wintry morning in the east of the essential location in England named Wamehadiwa (wuh-me-eh-huh-dee-wah)—means they are promised in Swahili.

He took out the pail while he shuttered because of the cold where he met face-to-face with his favorite horse Nazarene.

“Jesus. And as you know. Besides, morning Nazarene. And thank you for freshening up by drenching me with icy water this early in the morning!” He scolded.

“My good Jesus, I am late for the tournament. I am sure I am going to become one this time around. It is my greatest dream to become the best of them all!” Mea squealed.

Mea let the horses’ stables, cattle, and all other domestic animals.

He was on his way to the palace, which was just a mile away.

Time had passed, and Mea was at the mercy of his worst nightmare.

Mea was being knocked down by his worst nightmare over and over as he fell hard on the sand.

“On the floor again. Christ, peasant. And why don’t you give up? Do you wish for your deathbed?” He laughed.

“Not even close. And you know that I am doing my best, Neveah. And please give me a break!” Mea complained.

“I beg your pardon. No excuses. And stand up to fight light a man.” Neveah scoffed.

Mea stood firm, but Neveah knocked him on the sand while he tried to barricade every impact of Neveah’s sword clash.

“Lord Andrew, Neveah is not fighting fairly,” Mea called.

“Nonsense. Please, you must put effort into your fight, commoner the chocolate. And besides, you want to become a guardsman, don’t you?” Andrew snickered.

“That is right, uncle. And why won’t you stand down? Excuse me, I am announcing my next opponent.” Neveah announced.

I open the door and walk straight inside. All eyes of the boys looked in Neveah’s direction. They were wondering eyes about my identity in shock as I marched towards Neveah, but Mea got on his feet.

“I will fight you. And do not announce yet until you have defeated me, Nicolas!” Mea shouted.

Neveah glanced in front of him and his widened when he saw Mea on his feet. He was bewildered too to have seen himself up because he was beaten up terribly.

“My. Suppose it is not a stubborn jerk himself. And what do you want to prove in my domain?” Neveah snickered.

“Save your breath, Neveah. First, this is not your domain but a tournament. Besides, are you here to talk or defeat me for the last time?” Mea scoffed.

“Jesus, still sore about being kissed the dirty again and again? Besides, this talk about the boy who becomes the greatest is ridiculous! Are you trying to prove to me that you are the greatest?” Neveah teased.

“Let us fight until one of us is defeated!” Mea interfered.

“Even better,” Neveah added.

Mea gazed at him without a care in the world, Neveah was observing him with widened eyes.

Mea was focusing on him but with confidence that showed fear itself.

Neveah saw that fear was not in his eyes, only dullness of seriousness.

“Fight until one of us is defeated? Can you even hear yourself, Mea?” Neveah cracked.

“I can hear myself loud and clear. Are you going to fight or ask me these unanswerable questions? Besides, is this the reason you are doing here?” Mea roared.

“No, I came here to be one of the princess’ guardsmen. And win her heart!” He replied.

“That is nice, Neveah,” Mea muttered.

And what is that supposed to mean?” He asked.

My heart was aching to see such a jerk like him was interested in the princess, but Neveah charged after him.

Neither did we care as they charged against each other with their swords. Neveah knocked me over after saying a word point with her sword.

“I told you, Mea. And I am the best. Neither are you good at sword fighting so it will be best if you just give up. Everyone knows that you do not want to defeat me! I mean before anything gets messier.” Neveah continued.

“Let us find out. Neither do I ever give up am I understood? And I am going to complete my want of becoming the greatest guardsman, understand!” Mea roared.

“Right, fight till no one of us moves.” Neveah groaned.

Neveah charged after me but he backflipped and knocked him over with his feet on the sand. His sword pointed at his neck.

“And it seems as if we are even, monsieur self-righteous?” Mea answered.

“Not so overconfident, it was just lucky Mea. This time around I will not let my guard down.” Neveah replied.

“As I said, let us find out.” Mea nodded.

Neveah charged after him without holding back, but he blocked all his advances in a sword duel.

Mea ended up being a champion, however, Neveah did not take it lightly.

He flung Mea hard on the wall and penetrated through and his sword pierced through the wall.

Mea dodged all of Neveah’s advances of wanting to murder him, but he was unable to.

No, this cannot be! And you are dead, peasant—!” Neveah paused.

“Enough, Neveah! And can you see you are embarrassing our noble family name?” Andrew scolded.

No, a chance, uncle. I must put this peasant thorn in my flesh. I mean, out of his misery!” Neveah declared.

“Christ, my Living God. Look around you, boy!” Andrew roared.

Neveah holds his enraged for a moment as he looks around at the people on the tournament benches.

All were staring down at him in disappointment.

Times passed, and Mea, Neveah, and Andrew were surrounded by noble skillful guardsmen.

"Perfect humiliation by the boy you declared to be the best, Andrew. Neither do you have any idea that the boy was nothing but a failure?"

One guardsman cracked sarcastically.

“Defeated by the peasant, Neveah, made fun of. I am surely going to put this in remembrance, my amigo!" Another guardsman laughed.

All burst out laughing at Andrew, because of how his nephew embarrassed him publicly.

CHAPTER TWO

THE MOCKERY OF THE INNOCENT COMMONER

Abruptly, amidst the crowd of the audience, there were noble people and monarchs from other parts of other kingdoms who were displeased.

“I am not surprised that a commoner would be in the guardsman’s tournament, Naman!” He muttered. “And I am sure that the queen is going soft!” He continued.

“Watch your words carefully, Duke Thessalonians. Or the queen will have your head!" Naman whispered.

“Believe me, my boy, I fear no one. Not even the queen!” Duke Thessalonians said.

“Not even the queen, you said. Besides, I heard what you said, my lord. He said.

“Her Majesty had gone soft-hearted. And where must do something about it.” He uttered.

“My king, are you suggesting treason? And did you just hear that has come out of your mouth, King Philippe? Apart from that, the mockery of the innocent commoner boy. It is not fair you two!" Naman swallowed.

“I did. And what are you going to do about it? Going further, something must be done by such outrageous laws of non-noble families joining the tournament to become Guardsman." Philippe roared.

“Um, well, this is her kingdom, not yours, my king!" Naman snickered silently.

Phillippe and Thessalonians inhaled deeply while Naman left the intoxicating, ridiculous murmurers.

Their eyes were wandering about where the unidentified boy came from in shock as Mea marched towards Neveah, but Mea got on his feet.

“I will fight you. And do not announce yet until you have defeated me, Nicolas!” Mea shouted.

Neveah glanced in front of him and his widened when he saw Mea on his feet. He was bewildered too to have seen himself up because he was beaten up terribly.

“That is nice, Nicolas,” Mea muttered.

“And what is that supposed to mean?” He asked.

My heart was aching to see such a jerk like him was interested in the princess, but Neveah charged after him.

He pounced forward without even holding back with all his fierceness.

Neither did we care as they charged against each other with their swords.

Neveah knocked him over after mockingly snickered in laughter as he pointed the sword at him.

Mea ended up being a champion, however, Neveah did not take it lightly.

He flung Mea hard on the wall and penetrated through and his sword pierced through the wall.

Mea whelped in anguish while the skillful older guardsmen pounced on him.

“Step down, boy. And you are a disappointment to me.” Andrew roared.

“Jesus, man, Andrew. I am sure you are thinking of controlling your nephew! It seems as if Mea won this tournament. Another one is going to happen tonight to prove all three of them as Guardsmen. Mea, my boy, are you fine?” He asked.

“Classic, I am fine Noe. And what is your problem, you jerk?” Mea shouted.

“My problem is I cannot believe that a weakling commoner like you would defeat me!” Neveah shouted.

“Quit complaining, Neveah. And just swallow your pride.” Mea scoffed.

“Two of you, stop bickering. Neveah, you lose.” Noe scolded.

“But he is the one who started—!” Neveah paused.

“One more word from you. And you will say bye-bye to your precious life.” Noe snarled.

He was pointing his two-edged dagger at him.

Neveah swallowed hard while moving backward.

“Again, everyone will be meeting back there in the thickest woods’ campsite tonight. In there, your courage will be tested to see if you are worthy of becoming a Guardsman by dawn.” Noe said.

Mea looked up where he saw his old mentor Duchess Chronicles marching out of the crowds.

Mea said farewell to Noel and ran off while Andrew clenched his fist.

Later, Mea rushed inside the mansion where he met the old Duchess Chronicles.

“Jesus, my boy. And are you sure that you are enjoying joining the tournament to become a Guardsman? Would I ask if you are in love with the Princess, I hope?” Duchess Chronicles asked.

“I beg your pardon. Neither am I in love with the Princess. It is just that a Guardsman is what and what to focus on. Abruptly, Neveah is the only one who is interested in the Princess.” Mea said.

Duchess Chronicles burst out laughing her eyes out. Around that same time, the queen was marching one of her brethren while they were having a conversation.

“My queen.” He called.

“I am listening to you, little brother. And what is the problem?” She asked.

“Have you heard from our grandniece?” He urged.

“Not quite.” She responded.

“Christ, that boy. Um, I cannot believe that I am going to say this going that he is going to be going to become one of the greatest Guardsman in Wamehadiwa.” He chuckled.

“Now you have mentioned. He is nothing more than a non-noble. Apart from that, it is one of our rules in the law in the kingdom. I mean, to join the tournament to become the Guardsman. And I am only trying to fulfill our father’s wishes.” She said.

“Might be right, my queen. Now if you excuse me, I have somewhere to go!” He responded.

After the queen nodded happily as she watched her brother march away, and out of her presence.

Night came by fast and all three of the new champions found themselves deep in the woods.

“My, my what do we have here if it is not this little cheat?” Neveah mocked.

Neveah smacked Mea on the crown of his head while Mea yelped in pain.

“And what is the meaning of this, Neveah? This bickering is still on instead of getting along!” Noe answered.

“Please, Noe, we all know that he cheated,” Neveah growled.

“How? By you kissing the sand? And want to know who the cheater is?” Noe asked.

“Huh, sure, Noe.” Neveah snickered.

“Um, the one who cheated is you. Though you knew that you were defeated by Mea, you still wanted to prove him wrong. What for? Oh, wait because he is not a boy from a noble family.” Noe scalded.

“Christ, sure, the is the chocolate peasant—!” Neveah paused.

He finds himself crushing hard on the ground while tasting his blood.

In a rage he stood up, unleashing his sword, but Noe was pointing his weapon at him.

“Jesus, forbid me. And I swear this sword will pierce your chest if you dare to this nonsense again,” Noe warned.

Neveah became silent while Mea stared at him.

“And as for you, boy. Why won’t you fight back? I am sure you have overwhelming confidence to beat some sense into him, instead of letting him bully you. Jesus, my Living God. I fear the worst if you became a Guardsman,” Noe said.

“Besides, you be here for the rest of the night. If you leave this campsite, forgive me, for bursting your bubbles.” He repeated.

Noe walked away where he left Mea, Neveah, and the third boy by themselves.

CHAPTER THREE

THE INCOMPLETE QUEST MUST CARRY ON

Mea was sitting around the campfire.

He was silent while they overheard all the sounds of the extraordinary night.

After they were interrupted by the maniacal laughter and galloping of horses like thunder.

“And what is going on? Still, what do you think is that?” Jonathan asked.

Neveah snickered in laughter.

“It is not funny, please Neveah.” Jonathan scolded.

“Jesus, come on, you scary cat. And I cannot believe that we are going to be Guardsman. And would you look at chocolate? There is nothing but a commoner. Man, this is surely embarrassing. I am warning you, if you fail me to be a Guardsman, you will feel my rage.” He roared.

Both his fellow candidates inhaled in annoyance but ignored Neveah’s endless mockery.

In the meantime, deep into the woods, one man was running for his life while men on horses chased after him.

Back to the campfire site, Mea stood up to go to ease himself.

“Excuse me, stubborn jerk. didn’t you hear what I said? And where are you going?” Neveah asked.

“Um, do you want to follow me? And see for yourself?” Mea commended.

Neveah covered his mouth as Mea marched into the darkness of the night.

Jonathan cracked in laughter silently.

Time passed, and all of the fellow new swordsmen went straight to bed when Mea returned to whatever place he went. It followed by him going to his sleeping warmer tent, and sound asleep.

“No one is going to see the storm coming. Marvelous. This is to be the beginning of my glorious conquest. It shall come upon them as a woman travailed with the pain of giving birth. None of them know where to run too. I'll pledge to the entire world with heads of the dead. My throne shall be exalted above all.” She cackled.

He woke up gasping, breathing heavily, and sweat running down his chin that morning. Everyone was sound asleep.

His mentor mother figure Duchess Chronicle, who was the richest noble lady, had no idea that she came to the woods. She woke in as he unleashed her double-edged sword.

“Eleazana, I have it again. I saw it—the vision!” I said.

“I beg your pardon. And what vision?” She asked.

“Of the wicked queen. Who wants to wipe everyone out of the surface of the earth?” I panicked.

“Again? This is the third time you have received this dream. And you must be the messenger boy—.” He paused.

Later, they were interrupted by the galloping of horses a few miles away.

“Must hide. Must hide, Mea, my boy, hurry!” She declared.

“Where, Eleazana?” I whispered.

“In that thick bush there.” She answered.

“Remember whatever happens don't come out of the bushes.” She said.

She watched Mea pacing towards the bushes. He went through bushes out of her sight. After a few minutes, the riders she was and around about her.

“Must be serious! And I knew that this day would come! Besides, where is the boy?” He roared.

“What kind of boy?” Eleazana asked.

“Please, don't play games with me! Where is that vermin friend of yours?” He shouted.

“No idea! Eleazana uttered.

“Fine, that messenger boy—he must die!” he growled.

“I need your help! Get him! Out with him fast!” He roared.

Out of nowhere, the guards came to grab both his sides. It is followed by the sword being his neck.

‘Every time for years, you have been looking down on me. And now I am doing you a favor by looking down on you.” He snarled.

I was staring at my adoptive father defenseless as I hid in the gigantic closet. Later, I overheard him wailing in pain when his rival swordsman pierced the double-edged sword into him.

“Neither is no one to protect your precious son. He is nothing but the rejected chestnut skin colored boy. No matter how fine luxurious linen you have put on him. Have given him the largest room, he is a nobody but vermin.” He cackled.

“Besides, I have warned you to tell that weakling son of yours to stay away from the Princess. Since he has no one to protect him, I will haunt him down even to the end of the earth.” He continued. I saw the man push my father hard to the ground without a care in the world. “Scorched everything that him to the ground!” he commanded. “Right away our lord,” the guards said. When my father’s rivalry strode out of the palace, I rushed to his side.

Mercy my boy! Mercy, please!” He gasped. Father, please do not talk. And I am here. Besides, you will be fine—!” I paused. Um, no, your home. My boy, y-your home isn’t it, Eden! I am responsible for massacring your people from your homeland. Its name is Wamehadiwa. I slew your parents. And burned your village to the ground. Have I told you, that history is about to repeat itself?” He exhaled. Please, Father, I beg of you to not speak!” I screamed. Take this! T-t-take this the queen in the north. And tell him that the storm is coming!” He coughed. Wait, what? Father, are you serious? And are you telling me, Wamehadiwa? But it is two thousand miles away!” I blinked. May I remind you that she will be this week.” I cried. No, son, she is not coming. And noble people from all over the kingdom are meeting at the palace in the north. When you arrive there, give this to the queen.” He gasped. Take care of yourself. And be strong for I know you are not weak, because I see serious and a fearsome experienced warrior. I mean, just like you people.” He gagged.
