I walked into the dining room, carrying the list of guests as I always did when the time for the annual Crusoe Christmas Dinner rolled around. I had to make sure all of my dear friends were here. I looked down the table and saw Sherlock Holmes and Conan Edogawa engaged in a very intense conversation. Of course, I listened in.
“So that young lady, Irene, really outwitted you?” exclaimed Conan.
“I’m sorry to say it, my friend, but indeed she did. That was probably one of the hardest cases I’ve faced.” answered Sherlock, with a sigh. Then he brightened up.
“So, Conan, what is it like fighting crime with all of those fancy gadgets of yours?”
“It sure helps to solve the case!” Conan said with a smile.
I turned around and checked up on the next group, which consisted of Zak and my dear friend, Alex Grimm. I’m sure they were nicely discussing their jobs, too.
“Okay, Alex, so when you're coming into a room, hoping to capture some good evidence, what do you do first?” quizzed Zak.
“Well, first you provoke the ghost in some way, such as announcing your presence, and then you set up an EVP recorder and hope for the best!” Alex answered confidently.
“Very good, you’ll make one heck of a ghost hunter yet!” Zak said, patting Alex on the back.
As I walked away, I noticed another group of my guest huddled around the fire. I smiled, as I recognized my friends, Herome and Lillianna, having a nice discussion as well.
“Princessa, shouldn’t we have invited Damien and Bianca along too?” Herome asked. “I know that they have to run the schoolhouse and all, but still, we at least should have asked!”
“Herome, for one thing, this isn’t our party in the first place, its Robi’s” sighed Lillianna, trying to talk some sense into her husband. “And also, they need to watch the schoolhouse and our kids, so why even bother to ask them when we know that their busy!”
I chuckled to myself, knowing where that conversation was going! The last group sat around the coffee table, having a calm chat about ideas for books.
“You know, Kaza, sometime we should combine our characters and write a crossover book!” exclaimed Obert Skye.
“I’ll think about it.” replied Kaza Kingsley, rolling her eyes. But Obert wasn’t ready to let go of his idea that easily.
“Come on guys, it’ll be fun!” he said.
“NO!” shouted Kaza, along with the other two authors, Rick Riordan and Garth Nix. Obert’s shoulders sagged in defeat.
By the time I had finished checking the guest list, the meal was ready, so I called everyone into the dining room. We said grace, and then ate and had a wonderful time. As I waved to the last of my guests as they prepared to return home, two questions ran through my mind, and I wondered to myself.
“Will they come again next year?”
