Size 2, 4, and 6 yr. — Scale: 7 ½ sts to 1 in.

 

Materials:

 

1 Pr. Standard No. 2 Needles—14 in.


    1 Pr. Standard No. 3 Needles—14 in.


    Gold Medal Fingering Yarn (A Jack Frost Product)


    2-4 yr—4 1-oz. Skeins, 6 yr—5 1-oz. Skeins

 

BACK: With No. 2 Needles cast on 81 sts (4 yr.—87, 6 yr.—93). Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for 2 in. Change to No. 3 Needles and work even in stockinette st until piece measures 8 in. (4 to 6—9 in.) or desired length from lower edge. Bind off 3 sts (4 yr.—4, 6 yr.—5) at beginning of each of next 2 rows for underarm; decrease 1 st at each end every other row 3 times. Work even on remaining sts until piece measures 3 ½ in. (4 to 6—4 in.) from underarm. then work even in garter st until armhole measures 4 ½ in. (4 yr.—4 ¾ in., 6 yr.—5 in.) from bound off sts at underarm; then work as follows: work over 20 sts (4 yr.—22, 6 yr.—24), place on st-holder. Bind off next 29 sts. On remaining sts, work even in garter st for 10 rows, then work in stockinette st for 6 rows (4 to 6 yr.—10 rows). Increase 1 st at neck edge every other row 5 times, ending at neck edge. Break yarn. Work other side to correspond. Cast on 19 sts for front of neck, join to left front. Work even to last decrease at back underarm; turning to measure at first garter st ridge over shoulder. Increase 1 st at each end every other row 3 times; cast on 3 sts (4 yr.—4 sts, 6 yr.—5) at beginning of each of next 2 rows. Complete to correspond to back.

 

SLEEVES: With No. 3 Needles, on right side of garment, pick up 66 sts (4 yr.—72, 6 yr.—78) from end to end of armhole. Work 4 rows even in garter st, then 7 rows in stockinette st. Decrease 1 st at each end every 8th row 7 times (4 yr.—9, 6 yr.—11). Work even until sleeve measures 8 in. (4 yr.—10 in., 6 yr.—12 in.) or desired length to cuff. Change to No. 2 Needles, decreasing to 41 sts (4 to 6 yr.—45 sts) at even intervals across row. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for 2 in. Bind off.

 

NECKBAND: With No. 3 Needles, on right side of garment, pick up 29 sts across back of neck. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for 6 rows. Bind off. With No. 3 Needles, on right side of garment, pick up 67 sts (4 to 6 yr.—77 sts) from shoulder to shoulder across front of neck. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for 6 rows. Bind off. Sew together at shoulders. Sew underarm and sleeve seams.

    2 (2-3) skeins Knitting Worsted or Orion Sayelle green (2 oz. skein)


    1 pair knitting needles each No. 5 and No. 8


    1 set sock needles No. 5


    1 stitch holder


    1 button for hat

 

GAUGE: 5 sts. = 1 inch

 

PATTERN:


    1st row gold: K across row.


    2nd row gold: P across row.


    3rd row green: * K1, slip 1 (yarn in front of work), K1, slip 2 (yarn in back of work) repeat from * across row end K1, slip 1 (yarn in front of work), K1.


    4th row green: * K1, slip 1 (yarn in front of work), K1, slip 2 (yarn in front of work) repeat from * across row end K1, slip 1 (yarn in front of work), K1.


    5th row gold: K across row.


    6th row gold: P across row Repeat these 6 rows for pattern.

 

BACK:


    With gold and No. 5 needles cast on 54 (58-62) sts. and work in ribbing K1, P1 for 1½  (2-2) inch. Incr. 4 (5-6) sts. at even intervals across last row of ribbing. Change to No. 8 needles and pattern. With 53 (63-68) sts. work even until the entire piece measures 8½  (9½-10½) inch. or any des. length to underarm. Shape raglan armhole: bind off at the beg. of the next 2 rows 2 sts. (all sizes). 1st row: K1, slip 1, K1, p.s.s.o., work to last 3 sts., K2 tog., K1. 2nd row: work across row. Repeat these 2 rows 18 (20-22) times. Rem. 18 (19-20) sts. slip on a holder.

 

FRONT:


    Work Front as Back until 11 (12-13) raglan decr. are completed. (There are 32 (35-38) sts. left on needle.) Still cont. to decr.
