BACK: With No. 4 Needles cast on 71 sts. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for 2½ in. Change to No. 8 Needles increasing to 89 sts. Work in pattern as follows: Row 1—Knit. Row 2—K 1, * P 1, K 1; repeat from * across row. Repeat above 2 rows until piece measures 10½ in. from lower edge. Decrease 1 st at each ends every other row 6 times for underarm. Work even until piece measures 8 in. from first decrease at underarm. Bind off 6 sts at beginning of each of next 8 rows for shoulders. Bind off remaining sts for back of neck.
RIGHT FRONT: With No. 4 Needles cast on 57 sts. Row 1—P 1, K 1, over the first 8 sts for buttonhole band, P 2; K 1, P 1, over remaining sts. Row 2—P 1, K 1, over the first 47 sts, K 2; P 1, K 1, over remaining 8 sts. Repeat above 2 rows working a buttonhole ½ in. from lower edge as follows (right side): P 1, K 1, P 1, bind off next 2 sts, K 1, P 1, K 1, P 2; work across row. Work back, casting on 2 sts over the bound off sts. Repeat buttonholes every inch until 4 buttonholes in all have been made. When ribbing measures 3½ in. from lower edge, change to No. 8 Needles and work as follows: Row 1—(right side)—P 1, K 1, over the first 8 sts, P 2, K across row. Row 2—P 1, K 1, over the first 47 sts, K 2; P 1, K 1, over remaining 8 sts. Repeat above 2 rows, decreasing 1 st at front edge after the P 2, on the 21st row from ribbing and every 10th row thereafter to 34 sts as follows: P 1, K 1, over the first 8 sts, P 2, K 2 tog, work across row. When piece measures 10½ in. from lower edge; decrease 1 st at underarm edge every other row 6 times. Continuing decreases at front edge, work in pattern until piece measures 8 in. from first decrease at underarm. Starting at shoulder edge, bifid off 6 sts every other row 4 times. Continue ribbing on remaining 10 sts for 2½ in. Bind off.
LEFT FRONT: Work to correspond to right front omitting buttonholes and decreasing at front edge by slip K and pass instead of K 2 tog.
Sew shoulder seams. Sew ribbing tog. at back of neck and sew to neck edge.
ARMHOLE BANDS: With No. 4 Needles on right side of garment, pick up 113 sts from end to end of armhole. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for 5 rows. Bind off.
Sew underarm seams.

Work in pattern as follows: Row 1—K 3, * P 1, K 1, P 2, K 2, P 2, K 1, P 1, K 4; repeat from * across row ending last repeat K 3. Row 2—P 3, * K 1, P 1, K 2, P 2, K 2, P 1, K 1, P 4; repeat from * across row ending last repeat P 3. Repeat above 2 rows for pattern, working across st over the ribs of K 2, on the 5th and every 4th row thereafter as follows (right side): K the 2nd st on left hand Needle, then K the first, drop both sts from left hand Needle to right hand Needle tog. When piece measures 12 in. from lower edge, bind off 8 sts at beginning of each of next 2 rows for underarm; decrease 1 st at each end every other row 6 times. Work even until piece measures 6½ in. from underarm. Bind off 8 sts at beginning of each of next 8 rows for shoulders. Change to No. 2 Needles increasing to 37 sts. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for 8 rows. Bind off.
FRONT: Work same as given for back until piece measures 4½ in. from underarm. Work over 37 sts; place on st-holder. Bind off next 26 sts for front of neck. On remaining 37 sts, work 2 rows even; decrease 1 st at neck edge every other row 5 times. Work even until piece measures 6½ in. from underarm. Starting at shoulder edge, bind off 8 sts every other row 4 times. Work other side to correspond.
FRONT NECKBAND: With No. 2 Needles on right side of garment, pick up 75 sts from shoulder to shoulder. Work in ribbing of
