Have you ever felt like no matter what you do you can never have everything in you life stay the same? Well that’s exactly what happened to Melody Deshler. She was the average teenage girl that everybody loved. She was beautiful, popular, and everybody’s friend. But really that was just a shadow covering and ever so bright life. When she was twelve, her father died in a car accident. She was so heart broken that she couldn’t find it inside of herself to cry. She always made herself presentable in front of her twin sister, Harmony, and also keeps the house clean while her mom was at work. You would think when you first meet her that her life is perfect. You would be wrong. She only seems that way of her charm. Charm is a magical power that she inherited when she was born. She is able to make people see what she wants them to see and can make them do what she wants. She only uses her power when she’s around her friends but there are some that are like her, those who know what she is and what she’s going through. They are called charm speakers and they can see inside you to see what you dream for the most. This is where our story begins, with the life of Melody Deshler and how she dreamed and impossible dream.

I remember coming home from school and finding my mom on the phone with tears running down her face. I know my mom well enough to know she doesn’t cry unless it’s really important. I wanted to ask her what was wrong but I knew better than to disturb her while she’s on the phone so I walked into the kitchen and made myself a snack and went into my room to do my homework. It was about half and hour later when I heard my twin sister Harmony running in the door screaming at me to come outside. I wasn’t sure what was going on be I heard the fear in her voice and ran with her. When I got outside I saw my mom, covered in what I thought to be blood, holding a lifeless body. What I didn’t know was that the lifeless body she was holding was the body of my father. She screamed and cried for my dad to come back but of course it was too late. When I tried to comfort her, she threw her head back and cried and ancient mourning song from the Sioux Indians from which she is descended. I picked up the words immediately and sang with her. “Come back my love,” she sang, “Come back to this home and this life,” she screamed at his body, “Come back to your family, your wife and children,” she cried, “Please remember how to live, my love.” we both held each and sang. Harmony walked over to us and began to sing as well. Our cries of sorrow filled the streets and drew the attention of our neighbors. T felt their eyes on us, crying over our dead father. I felt their anxiety and fear. I hated knowing what other people felt and I wanted it to stop. I stood up; my blood stained clothed making me look like an evil presence. I let my charm spirit take over and forced everyone see what I wanted to see. But it didn’t happen how I wanted it too. My charm spirit forced my mind to go blank and I ran to my father and held him in my arms. I help him so tight that my nails started breaking his skin and made him bleed even more. I looked up to see our silver BMW all smashed to pieces. I finally understood what had happened and I hated it. I was finally able to force my charm spirit out and return to my proper state of mind. I promised from that day forward I would never use my charm spirit unless I absolutely needed too. Too bad I would have to use it a lot more than I would want in the coming years………
