Having A Baby

Tara was sitting in a blue comfortable chair, one that is so big more the one person could fit in it at the same time, she was bored today. She didn’t think she had ever been this bored her entire life, he friends were always around, she could look around the room, and there her friends would be.
For the last two months Tara has been sitting home alone or with her mother. She lost all her supposed to be best friends, when she told them she was pregnant. It wasn’t like she went out there and picked some random boy and had sex with him to have a child. This is not what she wanted for her life at 16 years old; the only problem was she didn’t do anything not to get pregnant either.
Tara was stewing today almost a war path kind of day for her, she didn’t understand how girls who were supposed to be your best friends just left you alone, they were supposed to be there no matter what popped in your life; at least she had her mom Lana, who was happy she was going to be a grandmother. She was of course disappointed with Tara for getting pregnant so young but, as she told her daughter she didn’t believe in abortions so she was having a baby.
It was just Tara and her mother every since her father left and started a new family with his new wife; about five maybe six years ago. The thing of it was Tara didn’t really miss her dad all that much, she loved him sure but who walked out on their family to start another family? Then be extra happy you had a boy and Tara was like company when she went to visit her father, not like his daughter.
Tara now has a little brother named Timmy who was now going on six years old, which meant he was cheating on her mother and that didn’t set to well with her either. He should have just left and had his family not break her heart to where she has not date since he left. Tara really hated her stepmother looked as young if not younger than her; she thought her dad could have done better.
Tara looked at the clocked and noticed her dad would be there to pick her up soon even though she could drive herself he insisted she let him come get her today. All she could do is agree or else he would of turned into ass. She didn’t want to happen before she told him she was pregnant. Her father did not know she was going to have a baby and she was already two months along going into her third month real soon, he should have saw the weight gain but of course he didn’t.
She was getting tired of waiting for him to come; she was popping her gum and swinging her leg over the arm of the chair, and hanging her head over the side. She hated to wait and she had been waiting for more than twenty-minutes already. If he didn’t hurry up she would jump in her black cavalier and drive herself to her father’s house, her cell phone went off; answering her father’s call she said, “dad where are you? I have been waiting a long time now; mom is already gone to work.” He told her he was pulling up in a few minutes. She was glad her mother parked her car in the garage because she lied to her father and told him her mother just left for work.
Tara jumped out of the chair and walked over to the door, she took a peek out the door and saw he was pulling into the drive way now, she yelled, “bye mom, love you” and opened the door all the way to step out onto the porch. She smiled at her dad though she knew this was going to be hard weekend, she didn’t know if he wanted to come get her because he had some news but boy did she have some news for him. She didn’t even know if she was ready to tell him, he was going to go ape shit on her and she didn’t know why he had anything to say about it, he left them.
“Hi dad, how have you been doing?” she asked and kissed his cheek.
They got through that part alright, but she needed to know why she could not drive herself. She opened her mouth to say something when her dad started to talking; he was asking her things that didn’t really matter as if he didn’t want to get to the point.
“Dad did mom call you already or something? You are acting really weird.”
“What would your mother need to call and tell me about you? I have been thinking lately that I have not had a lot of time but you have not called or came to see me and you got your license; what two months ago?”
Tara was glad they were going to pull into her father’s drive way, that meant until Timmy was not in ear shot this conversation was over. She didn’t mind though she needed more time to think of how to tell him she was going to have a baby.
Tara and her father walked into the house, there to greet them; more like greet her father was her stepmother Stephanie. She plastered a fake smile on her face and said,” Hi Stephanie, how are you doing?” hey she was trying to be nice.
“Please come were going to have steak on the grill and dinner rolls, with grilled potatoes, and corn on the cob.” Stephanie said with a fake smile herself.
We walked into the kitchen where Timmy was already seated in a high back white chair that matched the round white table. It was nice enough, she guessed. She sat down next to Timmy, it wasn’t his fault who is parents are. “Hey there sport, how’s it going?” she kissed the top of his head before she sat down.
“After dinner Tara, were going to go into the living room and have a talk while Stephanie takes Timmy to the park. Eat up, it’s really good.”
Tara’s heart dropped in her stomach and she started to shake, her mother already told her father so he knew she was having a baby, he was just waiting for her to tell him, and she didn’t say a word. She just sat in the car looking stupid.
She cut her meat and ate as much as she could. She ate maybe half of her steak, two bites of corn, and half the potatoes she had. “I am full, I think I will go wait for you in the living room.” She excused herself making sure she took care of her dirty dinner dishes. Tara walked into her the living room and sat on the white flowered couch, it was so ugly but anything to please the queen Stephanie. She wished her father would hurry up it felt like she had been waiting for hours, but it was only minutes before he walked into the room and sat in the rocking chair opposite of her.
In unison they said, “I am having a baby.” They both stopped and looked at each other before it sank in that Tara and Stephanie were pregnant at the same time. She could not have her father because he ran off with her and now she was having a baby at the same time as she was. This was not fair.
“What did you just say young lady? I know that I must have heard you wrong, you’re pregnant at 16?”
“What do you mean, you left me and mom and had your son, how can she pregnant again. I knew this was going to be a bad weekend, I could feel it.”
“You know you are not having that baby right? What does your mother think of you having a child this young? I bet she was jumping around for joy.” He said it like it tasted like venom.
Tara was not going to sit here and listen to him bad mouth her mother and tell her to abort her child. She had enough of him and his all so perfect life.
“I am not getting rid of my baby and I do not think you should say another bad word about my mother. She is a good mother; she didn’t run off with someone else and make a new family. She was not happy at first but what can do about it? Neither she nor do I believe in abortions. I think you should think of what you have done in your life before you start talking about an innocent person.”
He father stood up and smacked her across the face. “Get the hell out of my house and don’t you ever come back. I do not know you. You and your mother deserve each other.”
Tara grabbed her cheek as soon as his hand landed against her soft white skin; she knew that her face held a red hand print from her father. She was mad now. “Do you think I care to never see you again? I don’t, it will be the best day of my life to walk out of this house and never see you again. You remember this though; I did not run off to be a baby rapper.” She walked out the front door slamming it shut, leaving her dad wide mouthed and looking stupid.
Tara didn’t have her car with her so she had to call her boyfriend Jake would have to come and pick her up, she pulled her cell phone from her back pocket and quickly dialed the number, on the second ring he picked up. She told him where she was and what she needed. She decided to sit on the curb and wait for Jake to come get her, and hope her father did not call the police on her.

The Deal With Her Father Is Over

She did not have to wait long and she was glad for that, when she saw Jakes blue Camaro coming around the bend, her heart started beating faster and she smiled so big, she couldn’t help it; she was in love.
“Hi baby. I am so glad to see you. I just had a huge fight with my dad and guess what? Me and step mommy is pregnant.”
“Don’t worry about it; he hasn’t been around since when? You, me, and your mom got this under control.” He leaned over and kissed her cherry red lips.
Jake turned around her father’s drive way and headed back towards her mother’s house. He was going to take her home already? He just got there to pick her up.
“I can’t go home right now; I just got to my father’s house an hour ago and my mom don’t have to be at the dinner for another hour or so. I am actually hungry for something sweet can you take me to burger king, we can sit and talk for a while.”
He smiled over and her and nodded his head yes. She loved Jake. They have only been together since 8th grade and they were in 10th grade now. . He bought her things all the time, he never hit her, and he has been there every time she has needed him. She hoped Jake did better with his family then her father did with his.
“I was thinking, we need to start buying things for the babies soon, I think start with the basics, white bassinet and swing. Of course we can get diapers right along with onesies. What do you think?” she asked before they walked up to the counter.
The young looking man with zits on his face said,” how can I help you?”
“I would like two chocolate Hersey pies and a strawberry milk shake, medium.
She grabbed the shake and Jake grabbed the two pies shaking his head as he did so. They walked to the back of the restaurant and sat down on opposite sides of the table. Jake looked at her and said,” I am not saying I don’t want to do this; I want you to understand that. But do you think that it is the best time for us to be having a baby?” he asked under his breath.
She stopped opening the pie container and looked him in his eyes, “What do you mean by that Jake?” she asked him.
“I am just saying you are only two maybe three months a long and you r talking about buying baby things already. We don’t know what were doing so should we really have this baby right now? We could always give the child up for adoption.”
Tara stood up, pushing her food towards Jake, not caring where the food landed. She was tired of hearing about how young they are to be doing this, what was wrong with her that she would make such a bad mother? She did not want this for her life but what could she do about it now? It was her responsibility to take care of her child since she had lain down and made the baby. If she would have been younger she would not be thinking of keeping her baby, but she would be 17 years old right after the baby is born so she would be able to do it, and she wanted to have her baby.
“I will walk home from here. I think we should talk later because I am so upset with you right now. I just need time to think about everything, you know you could have walked away a long time ago or at least said how you felt when I first got pregnant.”
She walked out of burger king and headed down the back roads to her house. She knew she would be working for good thirty-minutes before she made it but she didn’t care, she wanted to get away from Jake. She didn’t know what was going on, she thought she knew him and they both wanted this baby. She was wrong.
Finally making it home after having walked uphill the last mile, she sure was glad to see her one story white house. She didn’t have the picket fence with a father and a dog but it was home. She saw that her mother was just getting ready to go to work when she walked into the yard.
“Honey what is the matter? Why are you walking home and with your father?” her mother Lana asked her worried.
“Mom it was so horrible and by the time it was all over with, I learned Stephanie is having a baby also. He started to run his mouth or and he smacked me. He is not going to be in my life or my Childs life after today.”
She started crying and dry heaving from being so upset at her father. It felt like he walked out of her life all over again, well in a sense he did. He had destroyed her heart and soul. When it comes to her father she didn’t care what he did or thought any more.
“Mom I am just going to go inside and take a warm bath and then I think I am going to take a nap. I have been so tired lately. I don’t have any energy all I want to do is sleep and I get sick every morning and sometimes in the afternoon and it sucks. It gives me headaches and I feel dizzy. I hate being pregnant. I feel like I am out of control.”
She walked into the house closing the behind her making sure not to slam it or else her mother would come in yelling, and she would not go to work because she would feel like she needed to watcher daughter, and then she would feel bad for making her mom miss work and money. She climbed the stairs that were right in front of the door, she walked slowly like she walking to her to grave. She finally made up the stairs and walked into the bathroom. She didn’t know if she even wanted a bath anymore, she was drained and need to lie down so that her head would stop spinning.
She didn’t know how teenagers or adult woman dealt with being pregnant, she cried all the time, she was moody, she felt like she was being stretched left and right, and she wanted to crawl in her bed and not come back out until she had the baby.
She sat on the edge of her bed and texted her Jamie, she at least would talk to here and there. Jamie kept telling her she was going to come see her but she never did show up. She told her about the whole day she just had with her dad and Jake. The text that she got back did surprise her she will not lie about that, she gasped for air, and dropped her phone on the floor. She bent down snatching her phone from the floor so she could read the message again,
“Jake has been seeing someone else for months now and she is pregnant by Jake. This other girl is six months pregnant and they are supposed to be moving into a house when the baby is born, she will be 18 by then.”
Tara was sick; she jumped up from her bed and ran into the bathroom, throwing her insides out. She didn’t know how she missed that one, her father was a cheat and she swore she would never let a boy play her like that. Guess she was wrong about things in her life that she thought she could always count on. She rinsed her mouth out from the tap water in the bathroom; she wiped her eyes, and walked back into her room lying down on her bed. She rubbed her belly, already feeling a bump there.
When she felt that bump on her stomach she busted out crying a river, she was not handling this as well as she thought she was going to be able to . She is smart and she could take care of her child, but right now she felt like giving up and doing as everyone suggested and give the baby up for adoption. Could she really do it?
She slid her butt backwards on her bed so she could pull back her black comforter and lay on her red sheets. She loved this bedding, it was soft and her red her blended so well with it. Before turning her fan on and drifting off to sleeps thinking that she needed her mother to braid her hair down her back, the fan made her hair feel like something was crawling over her face.

Becoming Friends With Jamie Again

Tara heard her cell phone going off in the back ground that is what woke her from her nap, she looked at the time on her alarm clock next to her bed and saw it was almost 7 pm, she looked at her cell phone and seen her mother called three times. She better call her back first before she flips out and thinks something horrible to her.
“Hi mom, I just woke up dang. What is wrong with you tonight, I am fine I just woke up. I am going to eat now, yea thanks for reminding me. Love you to, bye.”
She blew out breath and rolled her eyes. She vowed she would never be a mother that acted like a spaz. She knew how to get up and eat like a big girl and have clean clothes for school, which will be a new school. The news of her pregnancy traveled fast so the principal called her mother and asked if she would find Tara a new school.
Tara knew where the school was, she had heard of it of course. Though she never had to go there not even to pick someone up, the school was for pregnant teen mothers that wanted to finish school. The school is made up of four different trailers that were shaped in a C like pattern. That way every grade had a chance to finish school if they choice to while they were pregnant and the first six months of their child’s life. That was actually a good deal that is why Tara accepted going to that school.
She didn’t want to drop out of school because she got pregnant, after the baby is born she would continue her education, taking her child with her to school, and she would be done with school before her child turned six months old. That was plus for her because she didn’t have to go back to regular high school.
She sat in the brown kitchen chairs her mother bought to match the rectangular table, she even made cushions for the seats so they were more comfortable. She loved sitting in them chairs and remembering all the talks she had with her mother. She made herself a breakfast bowl, which consists of eggs, cheese, sausage, and potatoes. She just had to stick it in the microwave. That was a good meal for her; she didn’t eat a whole lot any ways.
She had a habit of pushing her red hair behind her ears, leaning back where ever she was sitting, and rub her stomach. She knew she was young but since the deed was done Tara wanted to hold her baby. She had been thinking of names as she ate and she walked into the living room and sat on the couch to watch TV and think at the same time.
Their living room had the couch, normal size TV since no one was ever home, and there was a computer desk in the corner with a computer hooked through it. Tara left her laptop on the coffee table unless she was in her room; she had to find something to do while she was pregnant. She hated being stuck in the house or around the yard. She wanted to go again but where could she go? When she left the house people would stare at her and that made her feel awkward.
Lana would say,” who cares what these folks think? We know what kind of girl you are and that is all that matters, well that and I love.” Tara felt the love from her mother, it was just she knew that her mother put on tough skin when she went in public with their daughter since she was 16 and pregnant. Tara felt a tear escape and roll down her cheek. She didn’t mean to put her mother in this tight spot. She is a waitress at a little diner not too far from where they live, it is actually about two blocks so Lana usually walked to work, unless the weather did not permit it and she was too tired to stand.
Tara started texting Jamie again, she told her sorry that she kept bothering and if she really didn’t want to answer back she didn’t have to. Too much of Tara’s surprise Jamie did text back and told her she was going to come see here right now; yea she had heard that before so until she knocks on the door she would just sit here bored, watching TV, and thinking of something she could do.
Tara felt herself drift off to sleep and snapped her eyes open at the same time she heard someone knock on the door. She unfolded herself from the couch and answered the door to a smiling Jamie; she looked like she was on the verge of crying.
“Come in and sit down. What is wrong?”
“Oh Tara I am so sorry that I was so mean to you. I have missed you so much; I don’t know why I have been so mean like the others. Will you forgive me please?” Jamie begged.
Tara had tears in her eyes as well, she felt like her life was coming together a little bit now. She stuttering when she tried to speak and she was having hard time breathing, taking in big gulps of air. She never cried like this so she didn’t know why she was doing so now. She looked at Jamie and told her,” sit down and let’s talk its long overdue.”
They chatted for hours about every topic they could burn through before Jamie said, “I am sorry but I have to go, I have a date tonight. Though you are pregnant I gave this cute boy Doug your phone number. You can have a text buddy or something.” Jamie smiled before getting up kissing Tara on the top of her head and walking out the door.
Tara couldn’t believe Jamie would really give her cell number to any boy when she was pregnant, what would they talk about after she told him that? Oh well it would be fun for 5 minutes to see him typing away and then all of a sudden her cell phone screen turning black from no use.
She looked at the clock on the cable box and saw that it was almost time for her mother to come home from work and she couldn’t wait because she wanted to tell her that she and Jamie were friends again, she was so happy.
Tara climbed the stairs so that she could go through her closet for something she could wear for school tomorrow, jeans didn’t fit no more and neither did her skirts. She stood by the closet staring inside to see what she wanted to wear, she seen black leggings but she needed to find a shirt that would cover her ass and the little bump starting to protrude through her clothes. She could still hide her pregnancy and she loved that. She didn’t see anything in her closet so she thought, raid mom.
She walked out of her room, into the hall way, and walked to the end of the hall to her moms room, she had the perfect shirt for the leggings; a white shirt that was see through white with a white tank top underneath, it is sewed in. that would cover everything and she would stay cool enough since it was summer time still, it was so hot out right now they didn’t want to even walk to school.
She took the shirt back to her room and laid it with her leggings over the back of the chair that was in her room, it was there when she felt like being lazy and doing her make up in her room. She smiled to herself when she heard her mom come in the door, then her cell phone started going off at the same time.

Seeing Doug In Person

After she talked with her mom, she looked at her phone to see it was a text message and it was a number she didn’t know, so she replied,” who is this?”
The reply she got back she laughed but she was mad, she knew it was the boy Jamie gave her number to. She didn’t want to be mean so she read the message that read: “This is Doug. I got your number from Jamie; she said she is your best friend.” They chatted for awhile then as she knew he would the next message she got said: “Would you like to meet up pizza and a movie or just pizza?”
She didn’t want to be mean but she had to tell him that she was going to have a baby and she didn’t know when she would be dating again. She wrote him,” I am sorry about this Doug, but I cannot go out with you, Seems Jamie is playing jokes or something. I am pregnant and I don’t think I will be dating any time soon.”
She turned her phone off because she didn’t want to see the next reply that he sent. She set her phone on her bed and went looking for her mother again. She needed to see her smile and hear her voice one more time before she went to sleep, she didn’t care that she was going to have a child, she needed her mother.

“Mom I am up okay, stopping yelling. I am trying to get dressed; I will not be late my first day to a new school so I really stick out.” Tara yelled from her room. She was trying to get dressed and calm her stomach, she already got sick this morning so now she just needed her stomach to stop turning.
She walked out of her room with her back pack over both shoulders so her mother would not complain, she thinks it will make Tara walk phone and she will have problems later. “I am going to drive my own car to school so that I can just get there and get out as fast as possible.” She kissed her mother’s cheek and walked out the door. She was sitting in her hot car, rolling down her windows, and taking in deep breaths hoping she will feel better by the time she got to school.
She reached in the side pocket of her book bag to turn her cell phone off when she noticed she didn’t have her cell phone with her; she had pushed it out of her way when she climbed into bed last night. There was nothing she could do about it now so she walked into the school and saw that the class room consisted of ten people, which worked for her. She looked around the room that was to be her class room for almost a year and noticed some of the girls in here were huge; the girls were going to have their babies soon.
When she walked in the teacher asked her to sit in the empty seat next to a dark haired girl that she wasn’t going lie, she looked dirty, and Tara didn’t want to sit there but she did anyways. She walked over and sat down next to her, “Hi my name is Tara. What is your name?”
“My name is Emma.” And she was quite again. Tara sat there quietly and her homework until the bell for the end of class rang out. She did not have any homework to take home today, which made her happy.
She walked back out to her car where it was hotter than this morning. She was going to hate driving home in this heat with no air conditioner in her car. She needed to hurry home and get cell phone, she didn’t know when her mom had to go to work today and she called everyday as soon as Tara got out of school to make sure she was going straight home.
Pulling in her drive way she noticed Jamie’s car was already there, how she got out of school before Jamie did, and what is she doing here? Tara thought. Walking inside the house she heard a few different voices, she followed the voices and walked into the kitchen to see Jamie, her mother, the boy Jamie was talking to, and some new boy; that she could only assume was Doug.
“What is going on in here? Jamie what are you doing here so early and with people?” Tara snapped.
She didn’t meant snap on Jamie but she was real moody lately and she was not ready to come home to a house full of people and one boy she didn’t even know, though she knew it was Doug; the boy she had met via text.
“I am sorry Tara, I wanted you to come with me and see my mother she is in town for two weeks and I didn’t want to go alone. I will though, I am sorry again, Tara.” Jamie said o the edge of tears.
“Jamie I am sorry, it has been a long day and I am just moody. I would love to go with you; when are you going to see her?”
“Right now silly, I thought us four could go. I need you and with the boys there she will not want me to stay all night. I am not the one to leave, you know what I mean?” she asked with her voice and pleaded with her eyes.
Tara nodded her head, hugged her friend, and whispered in her ear,” Now you owe big! I do mean big!”
Tara climbed the stairs with Jamie on her heels, she wasn’t anything but from that stupid lopsided smile she had on her face and Tara knew she was thinking something. She rolled her eyes she was going to know soon enough, as soon as they were in Tara’s room Jamie let it all spill.
“Tara, what is your deal? I hope you know by telling Doug that you were pregnant did nothing to push him away. He was asking me more questions after he talked with you and you did not answer him back so he called your phone and it was turned off. What is your deal? He is a good boy down there that wants to get to know you and is mad as hell that the daddy left.” Jamie said with fire in her voice.
Jamie doesn’t go off on someone unless she thinks that you need it. She was really mad at Tara for no reason as far as she was concerned, she should not have gave the boy her number in the first place, though if she was honest with herself she thought Doug was sweet and now that she saw the boy in person, oh wow was he hot. He has brown hair with emerald green eyes that could pierce you where you stood.
“I am sorry Jamie; after I told him that I was pregnant I thought that would be the end of that. I was not trying to be mean to anyone and I was only trying to protect myself. I don’t think I should be dating right now do you?”
“I will tell you this, if you like him and he likes you and he is willing to be with you even though you are pregnant by you should at least be his friend and see what happens later. That is what I think.” She said nodding her head.
With that said Tara finished dressing and found her flip flops, her feet were swelled lately. She was tired of not being able to wear her tennis shoes as she was always in tennis shoes. She smiled over her shoulder to Jamie and said,” I guess I am ready to go. This better be worth my time Jamie, I was planning on lying on the couch and taking a nap.” They both laughed.

Being Around Friends Again

Tara said bye to her mother and followed Jamie and the boys to the car. They jumped into Jamie’s car; she was going to sit in front with Jamie but of course the boy that Jamie was seeing wanted to sit in the front, She didn’t learn his name until Doug said,” James let Tara sit in front she is p…” she did not let him finish that sentence, she jumped into the back seat with Doug.
“I am sorry you got stuck back here with me. I promise that I will not bite and I will even stop talking to you if you would like me to.” He said husky.
Tara didn’t know what to think of him, yes he was nice but so was Jake and he ended up being a jerk. He didn’t care about her like he said he did and he had lied to her she found out.
“I am sorry; I don’t mean to be so cold towards you. I am having a hard time being social again after everything. I would love to talk with you.”
She smiled at him, he was good looking and she wished she could have met him first but that is not how her cards fell. Oh well he could be a good friend.
“So have you been around here long? I don’t remember seeing you before. How old are you?” she threw out there for him to answer.
“I have been here about four months now, though I didn’t get out right away. I was sent to live with my dad because my mom doesn’t know how to deal with me. Neither I nor my father knows what she is talking about, so here I am and I am happy.”
They chatted on the ride over to see Jamie’s mother in the motel on the other side of town. Jamie looked in her rear-view mirror and said,” we are here, I am sorry you guys. After this we can do something fun if everyone wants.”
They pulled into the” Red and Blue Inn” Tara smiled at Doug who was going to wait in the car with James. She climbed out and almost fell out of the car when her flip flop got stuck somehow on the floor mat. Her face turned red and she hurried out of the car, making sure to not look back so she didn’t see the boys laughing.
“What do you think of Doug? I saw you guys talking and you would giggle and cover your mouth so no one would hear you.” She wiggled her eyebrows at her.
Tara started to giggle again. She didn’t laugh much these days and she was having a good time with it today. “I have been having fun learning things about him. He is a nice boy you were right, I wish things were different but you are right he can be a good friend.”
They walked into the motel and up to the desk, “I am here to see Mrs. Spritsail, I am her daughter in case she needs to know that information.” Jamie told the man behind the desk.
We had to walk around the corner to the left and ride the elevator up to the third floor and then she would be in room 212. That wouldn’t be so bad; we got on the elevator and giggled while they chatted about normal teenage girl stuff.
Tara had a smile on her face from the time she got into the car with Jamie and she could not wipe it off if someone had asked her to, not that she wanted to either. She stood next to Jamie as she knocked on her mother’s room door. When Mrs. Spritsail opened the door Tara didn’t recognize her, she wondered if Jamie did.
“Mom what is going on with you? I am going to stay a while this time but I have friends in the car, is it okay if they come up? One is my boyfriend and one is Tara’s.” she told her mother.
Tara wanted to say something about Doug being her boyfriend but she held her tongue and went to get the boys so Jamie could have some alone time with her mother. She was going to have to tell Doug that they were a couple.
She walked over the car and saw the boys were in there still chatting but had turned the radio on so that you could hear it when you stepped off the curb that led to the parking lot. She opened the door scaring both of the boys, she giggled and said,” You have to come in for a while, Jamie is talking with her mother and she asked her mother if our boyfriends could come in, so come on.” She stated and started walking back towards the hotel when she felt his arm around her shoulder; she shook his arm off just to hear.” Tsk tsk tsk, we are a couple remember? I am not doing anything wrong but lightly touching you.” He smiled.
“Whatever just behaves yourself and do not try to kiss me or you will have my foot in your butt. Got that buddy?” she told him.
When Jamie opened the door you could tell she had been crying but Tara knew she could ask her anything here and now, she was going to have to wait until Jamie was ready to tell her about it. She smiled letting her friend know she was there for her when she was ready. They sat, Doug sitting in the chair and pulling Tara on to his lap, though he was a gentleman she was pissed at first, Jamie sat on James lap and they say on the edge of the bed.
Jamie’s mom insisted that all of them call her mom as well; she was such a sweet person. Tara couldn’t help but to think what could be wrong with her? She brought a DVD player from home and wanted to watch a movie with someone so Jamie asked everyone if that was okay.
They sat through some really old move that was still in black and white but they made it to DVD, it was a good movie but nothing that Tara would watch again. Saying good bye she saw Jamie’s mom had tears in her eyes.
“Do you want to just go back to my house? We can hang out in room and listen to music, play a game, or do something there.” Tara asked Jamie. Shaking her head no she hurried to add, “I think we should go play putt put or go swimming.”
They boys wanted to go swimming and who wouldn’t know they would see girls in their swim suits? She was not going for that, “I want to play putt put. It has been a while since I have been able to do anything but sit.”
Doug looked at her out of the corner of his eyes and was smirking at her but did not udder one word. She was happy for that, she knew he was thinking along the same lines as she was; there was no way she was getting into any swim suit. He didn’t know it, but she was getting a baby bump already.
Tara was glad there was not many people around she would be able to play better with less people around. They got out of the car, walking through the entrance said read: Greenest Putts, it was somewhere to have fun. Doug paid for everyone to pay, which surprised Tara; Jake didn’t pay for anything and he hated Jamie, he would never hang out with her.
She was having a good time swinging at the golf ball that she barely hit. She would giggle and feel her face turning red every time she missed she would look around and see everyone else smiling. Doug even tried to help her by putting his arms around hers and helping her hold the club but she stepped out of his arms and continued trying to play. When it was time to go home Tara was ready, she was tired and having this much fun today took its toll on her body.
Doug climbed out when Tara did and walked her to her door. She smiled at him when they got to the porch and said,” I had a good time today; I hope you did as well. If you would like you can text me later.” Before he could kiss her or say anything she slipped into her house, closing the door with a soft click. She leaned her back against the door and took a breath, what was she doing liking someone else already and in her condition.

Going To The Doctors

“Mom just come with to the doctors please, god why are we always arguing now?” she stomped off to her room and slammed the door. She use to get along so well with her mother and now she can’t be in the same room with her for more than five minutes and she was tired of it.
“Tara, come baby I am sorry. I just wanted one day off where I didn’t have to run but for you I will go, I will sit in there with you as a mother should. Please come out, I am really sorry.” Her mother sounded like she was almost in tears and Tara couldn’t stand that much better than being mad at each other.
She opened her bed room door and walked into her mother’s arms, she needed this hug from mom and this made the world seem okay at least for a little while. Her mother worked hard to keep a roof over their heads and keep food in the house; she deserved a day to stay at home.
“You don’t have to go with me mom, I can do this I got myself in this mess you didn’t do it, I will let you know what the doctor says what I get home, okay?”
“Thank you Tara, I will go if you need me I can go with you, that is what I am here for.”
They were interrupted by a knock on the front door down stairs. Lana went to answer the door so Tara could finish getting ready to go; besides it was probably Jamie and she would come straight up stairs. When no one appeared in her room she admits it she got curious and headed down the stairs; she could hear a male voice that she did not recognize then it hit her like cold water in the face, it was Doug and she was starting to know his voice, smell, and get goose bumps when he would speak with her. Oh no this is not supposed to be happening to her right now, she was having someone else’s baby; then she heard her mother ask him,” would you do me a huge favor Doug? I think you’re a sweet boy and I would love it if you would take or ride with Tara to her doctor appointment in a few minutes?”
“Sure it would be my pleasure to be able to help out. Where is Tara anyways?” he asked.
“Tara is right here, why do you ask now? You seem to be having a good chat with my mother.” She told him.
Tara loved the way Doug smiled, he lit up her life and she really needed some color in her life; she has been seeing in black and white far too long. She was just being friends with him but he was a handsome and nice boy. That didn’t mean she wanted him to take her to the doctors but since her mom already asked him and he said yes, she was letting him take her but there was no way he was going in the back with her.
“Are you ready to go since my mother has made you the designated driver for me?”
Doug at least looked embarrassed as he should, he knew that he was not playing for and Tara didn’t know how else to keep him at arm’s length.
Tara got into his black blazer with shiny rims, she didn’t know much about popular rims but as shiny and nice as these looked she knew that the rims cost Doug some money; that would make it worse for her to like him, his family had money and hers well they were poor by the standards but really they weren’t poor they had a roof, food, clothes, and other things either of them wanted. She just didn’t ever see herself with a rich kid.
Jake was not rich, he was a trouble maker and he had criminal already at 17 and that is what drew Tara to him in the first place. He was cute in his own way but to think back on it, he was really just average; brown hair and eyes, he had an okay body but a little on the skinny side, he did the same thing every day and that is party. Tara was happy to be out of that relationship he was no good and she should have stayed away from him when her mother warned her about him.
“We are here my dear. Sorry that was corny huh? We are here and I will wait here to go in with you, that I will let you decide for yourself.” He said.
Tara giggled but tried to hide it behind her hand, acting as if she had an itch. She looked over at him, “Please stay in the car I will be right back as soon as I can. I will try and not leave you out here for too long.” She climbed out of his blazer and quickly walked inside the building, she didn’t care how stupid she looked, she was getting to close to him and she needed to be able to breathe.
Thankfully Tara didn’t have to sit in the waiting room for long, she didn’t like to wait and she would snap her gum when she chewed it or she would tap her toe on the floor. They tried to get Tara in and out no matter what kind of doctor appointment it was.
“Hello Tara, how are you doing today? Please come on back Dr. Jacobson will be with you shortly. But let’s get your weight first and you could pee in this cup, write your name, and leave it on the sink the bathroom.”
Tara smiled and followed the nurse Karen to be weighed and to use the rest room, when she was finished she was to go into room two. She walked into the room and sat on the bed with that noisy paper that is across it; she hated that paper. She sat there kicking here feet back and forth waiting for the doctor to come into the room. She was not sure what they were doing today but she was nervous every time she went to the doctor’s office.
Her head snapped up when she heard the Doctor open the door and walk in. She smiled and waited for to tell her what was going today.
“Hi Tara, you look well. How has it been being pregnant?”
“It has sucked but I don’t know what it is supposed to be like but for me I feel like I am growing too fast, I am moody, and I am just tired of being pregnant. I would like to be done already.” She laughed.
“Well that is what we are going to do today; we are going to measure your stomach and I need to check your cervix. It should be painless but some women have a discomfort after their cervix is checked ad they bleed sometimes.”
Tara was scared she just wanted this doctor appointment to be over with. It didn’t take long for the doctor to do her thing and get done so she could sit down and talk with her. When she sat Tara sat up and asked,” how’s it going?”
“When was your last menstrual cycle? I think you are further along then you originally thought because your cervix and the measurement from your stomach tell me you are already three months along, almost into your fourth month.”
“What does that mean, the baby is going to be born in April?” she asked.
Tara was glad that she was closer to having the baby then she thought she was but now it was becoming to real, she is going to have an ultra sound next month, she wanted to know what she was having but she didn’t know if she could do this now. She walked to Doug’s Blazer in a daze, she climbed in her seat, and stared ahead saying,” looks like I am having my baby before I thought I was going to, I don’t know what to do Doug. I never thought I was going to do this alone and here I am doing it alone.” She started crying.
She felt Doug put his arm around her and pull her to his chest; she laid her head there and cried. She know why she was crying like a baby but she was having a hard time being a pregnant teen and the boy that you thought loved you and you loved back was just gone.

After The Ultrasound

Tara had her ultrasound two weeks and she was told she as having a girl. She wanted a little girl to have her fiery temper and looked like her as she did her mother, she didn’t want her daughter looking like her father. She was so excited she was having a girl and she was going to go crazy with pink. She has been buying little things here and there like the bottles, pacifiers, bibs, diapers, and of course the lotions and shampoos. Doug did help her pick some of the things out and he has also bought her daughter stuffed animals already.
She needed to sit down and talk with her mom for two reasons, she needed to let her know she was having a little girl they both could cherish and two she needed some advice about Doug. She walked around the house yelling, “Mom! Where are you? MOM!?”
“What is wrong? It cannot be time already, is it?” her mother asked worried.
She didn’t want to scare her mother out of her wits, she felt bad for that.
“Nothing is wrong I need someone to talk to and I can’t talk with Jamie about it. Could you come and talk with me?” she asked.
She followed behind her mother she didn’t know why other then she thought she was not going to come into the living room. Tara and her Lana sat on the couch together. Tara was playing with her hands in her lap and letting her eyes roam the carpet.
“What is going on? I haven’t seen you this nervous since you told me you were pregnant, nothing can top that.” She smiled.
“Mom, what do you think of Doug? What I mean is, I know I am pregnant but Doug has wormed his way into my heart and I don’t know what to do. I am pregnant and I should not be dating.”
Tara was taken back when her mother started laughing at her. What was so funny? She was being serious right now.
“Honey, you two are not dating right now so it does not matter, when the baby is born well that is up to the two of you. If you the two of you want to date then go for it, who cares what others think? Tara, he loves you and he wants to be around you even when you yell at him, tell him to leave and not come back. I think that you should date him but not at this time.”
That made Tara feel at least a little better but not by much because they have gotten close. She did not let him kiss her or anything beyond friendship but that could change so fast, she should know. She vowed that she was going to be nicer to Doug; she was not going let him slip through her fingers. He is the best thing that has happened in her life, well her daughter is first but that is a given.
She heard her cell phone she looked down at her phone that was on the table. It was two text messages; okay she thought as she opened them, they were both from Doug. The first one read: I was thinking of you, hope you are feeling okay today and the second one was a picture of him with his shirt off with his tongue stuck out, and his eyes crossed. She started laughing until her stomach hurt.
Tara looked up to see a confused look on her mother’s face, she didn’t know if she could tell her what she was laughing at without going into another fit. “Mom Doug is too crazy; he checks in with me to make sure that I am doing okay or that I don’t need anything. Today he has done the same but this time he sent a silly picture with it. He is a great friend.”
Lana didn’t say anything she just leaned over kissed Tara’s cheek and left the living room. Tara watched as her mother left the room, she didn’t know why she just left like that but she knew sometimes that there is just nothing to say so you walk away. She took this time to text Doug back and asks him for something after all; she was getting fat enough she didn’t needed anything that would make her fatter.
The text read: “Would you please bring me some ice cream? I would like some cones, chocolate syrup, marshmallows that are in a jar, butterscotch, and cherries. Oh that sounds so good and I will share with you.” She said adding a smiley face. She sat her phone on the coffee table and stretched out on the couch.
She knew she was being lazy lately but she ran out of breath fast and she was awkwardly shaped being pregnant. Four more months and she would be a mother holding her new born baby, she was ready to give birth though she knew it was going to hurt; she was tired of being big and waddle all over the place.
She felt her eyes closing when she faintly heard her phone going off, she was reached for the phone so she could check to see whom it was texting her but she was already sleeping before she could snatch her phone from the table.
She felt something tickling her face which she thought was her hair but it wasn’t. When she opened her eyes she was staring into Doug’s face. She smiled and stretched; he showed her the ice cream and toppings and she jumped up from the couch grabbing the ice cream from him, and heading to the kitchen.
Tara walked into the kitchen with Doug hot on her heels; it was like he was lost when he was in her house; when he was in Jamie’s he would go all over alone. She thought he was going to ask her about the doctor’s appointment but he didn’t. she reached to get bowls when she felt Doug behind her and he grabbed the bowls before she could even stretch up; “I know that much about someone being pregnant, they are not supposed to stretch when they are trying to get things. “ he told her and smiled.
Tara was getting irritated but she bit her tongue, he was only trying to help so why should he get his head chewed off for that. She opened the jars of chocolate and butterscotch, twisted the plastic top from the plastic jar of marshmallows, when she turned to ask what else she could do he handed her a bowl of ice cream with the jar of chocolate in his hands.
“Are you ready? Hold your bowl and I will add the toppings just tell me when to stop.”
She loved having Doug around he was great to talk with and he would do anything for anyone, which was something that you didn’t find every day. She turned to walk away when he added all she wanted but he grabbed her arm as he leaned back against the counter with his legs crossed at the ankles he said, “So what happened at the doctors today? What did they say? I have been waiting for the news all day and you didn’t even tell me when you got home.” He pretended to be hurt.
Tara felt better that he asked. She wanted him to be interested in what was going on, not her just always telling him things that he doesn’t care about. Her heart felt more love for Doug after he asked. “I had the ultra sound today. I thought that it was going to take longer than it did but it was interesting to see the baby on a small computer monitor. They can tell what the sex of the baby will be, I am having a….” she didn’t finish that sentence because he was holding up his hand.
“Wait I don’t know if I want to know the sex of the baby. Maybe you could just know and I will find out when you have the baby.” Doug told her.
She was looking at him funny and she turned to walk out of the kitchen so that she could go back and curl up on the couch where she is more comfortable at when Doug stopped her again.
“Okay just tell me, I can’t take the suspense.”
Tara smiled big, “I am having a girl.”

Getting Close To The End

She could not believe it she was going to have her baby in a month. Being pregnant for nine months sucked, she was too big to move around with ease, she hated that she could not fit her clothes, and she wanted to wear her tennis shoes again. Her feet and hands have swelled up so much that she can’t wear shoes or rings.
She was sitting in her room waiting for Jamie and Doug to show up, she didn’t want to go out but they thought it was a good idea for Tara to go to Jamie’s for movie night. She wanted to have movie night here where she would be comfortable and she could go to sleep when she wanted to.
Doug came to the door and knocked, “Come in” Tara yelled from the middle of her bed. In walked Doug with a big smile as usual. He winked and said, “Are you ready to go? I came to get you alone so that Jamie could go pick up James.”
Tara shook her head and scooted off the bed, she hated not being able to move like she use to, “Figured she would have to go pick up her boyfriend.” She said.
Doug helped her down the stairs, she looked around the lower floor for her mom but she didn’t see her so she walked out the door and to Doug’s car. “I didn’t even know you owned your own car. You are usually with someone else or walking.”
She looked at his white Cadillac and smiled, “Fits you, though why did you get Cadillac?” Doug opened the car door for her and shut it.
When he climbed in he said, “I hope you have a good time even though I know you didn’t want to come out tonight.”
Tara rubbed his leg before he started the car; she pulled back, and folded her hands in her lap. She was nervous again being around him and she didn’t get it, she thought she was over the shyness with him. He has been around since she was two months pregnant so it’s been almost a year.
They were quite on the ride to Jamie’s house; she could have probably walked there if she wasn’t pregnant as close as they lived together. She smiled a little when they pulled in the drive way, she wanted to see Jamie so bad, it felt like too long since she hung out with her.
Doug helped her out of the car and held her hand up to the door as if they were a couple, any other time she thought he would have been her boyfriend. “I never knock, every since we were little girls we have been just walking into each other’s houses. Tara opened the door and walked in with Doug still holding her hand. She looked at him with her eyebrows arched and then looked down at their locked fingers.
“Sorry I didn’t think you would mind, I guess I wasn’t thinking. Are you mad?”
He asked her if she was mad a lot and it got annoying but she wasn’t going to be rude about it. “I’m not mad; we never held hands in public before.” She said looking at the floor.
“I would have held your hand in public if you had gone out with me. You never wanted to go anywhere so all I could do is see you at your house. You haven’t seen anything yet, wait until you have the baby and we can go out together.” He winked.
Tara turned her head because she heard Jamie laughing; she was coming closer to them. “What’s up Jamie? What are we watching tonight? Am I staying here tonight or are you taking me home later?”
“We are watching a few movies tonight, I would like you stay the night. You two sit in the living room and start watching whatever you want, I will be back with James in a few minutes. She walked out of the room leaving Tara and Doug to do as she said and go into the living room and pick something to watch.
“What is wrong with her?” Doug asked her when they were seated on the couch next to each other.
“You have to just know Jamie, she is a wild one but she doesn’t hurt anyone and she doesn’t ask anyone else to do it with her.”
She started looking at the TV as if they were not talking. “What do you mean? I think I am more lost now.”
“She gets high and of course she drinks more then she should.”
Doug shook his head and sat more in the corner of the couch so he could pull Tara closer to him. He smiled when she looked over at him but he still held his hand on her thigh. She didn’t care that he was doing this but with the look she just gave him made most boys pull back.
They decided to wait on Jamie to come back to start the movie so Doug was flipping through the channels, he made sure it was okay with Tara; she thought that was sweet. She felt herself nodding off but she couldn’t she could keep her eye lids open; Doug was too comfortable to lean against. She felt him try to get up and that is what made her wake up.
“What’s the matter?” she asked in a sleepy voice.
“I need to use the rest room and I don’t think neither Jamie nor James is coming back out here. I will be right back.”
Tara stood up and walked around she didn’t want to go back to sleep yet; she was sleepy but she wanted to lean against Doug again. She knew that this was a bad idea but she would have to deal with that later.
She heard him come back into the living room. “Did you see them?” she asked.
“No, sorry you’re stuck with me.” He wiggled his eyebrows making her giggle. She loved that he could make her giggle and he does anything for her to make her smile. “I don’t mind being stuck with you, I was just asking. I sort of knew this was going to happen. She has been trying to get me to date you for awhile.” She covered her mouth instantly; she didn’t mean to say that.
She saw his eyes widen in surprise and she didn’t know what to say. “I don’t know why I just said that, I am so sorry. I….”
“Don’t be sorry, I like to know that she feels that I am good enough for you. I heard her tell James if his boys even try to get close to you she would; let’s say make them into woman. I would love to date you but I know that it is not the right time for you to be dating. I just want to be your friend until it is time; then I better be number one on your list.” She hugged her to him.
“Thank you Doug, which was the sweetest thing that I have ever heard. I would never think of dating someone over you. You know sometimes I wish I would have met you first, things would have been different.”
They sat on the couch for an hour or so when Jamie didn’t come back they decided to lie on the floor together and sleep. Doug laid out a thick blanket and held his hand out; Tara smiled and let him help her to the floor. She was on her side and let him hold her against him, he actually spooned.
“Goodnight Tara.”
“Goodnight Doug.”

Tara's father calls

Tara woke from something heavy pushing her down, when she opened her eyes it was Doug’s arm laid over her stomach. She was relaxed that made her feel better, though now she had to get up and go pee. She tried moving Doug without waking him up but as soon as she lifted his arm he popped his eyes open.
“What’s the matter? Are you hungry?” he asked then stretched his arms above his head.
“I need to go use the bathroom and then I think I am ready to go home so I can take a shower and change my clothes.”
Tara walked down the hall to the bathroom bumping into something strong, she bounced back, and would have landed butt first on the floor if James would not have grabbed her hand. “I am sorry; I didn’t think anyone was up yet.”
He smiled at her and walked away from her but kept looking over his shoulder before he entered Jamie’s bedroom; closing the door softly. Tara hurried into the bathroom and went pee as quickly as she could so she could get back to the living room with Doug.
“I am ready to go now. Do you have school today?” she asked him.
“Hold on one sec. and I will be ready. Yup I have three classes today and then I have to go to work, I wouldn’t go to school but I need my last four credits so I can graduate.”
Tara was glad Doug was still in school and he got himself a job. He has been working since he was in the 9th grade then he had to move and he got a job two weeks after settling in. He is a great young man and he will make something of himself someday, that brought a smile to Tara’s face.
She waited on the couch for Doug to finish doing whatever it is he was doing. Tara kept rubbing her lower back. She should not have slept on the floor because her back was already sore and now it feels like there are knots in her muscles. She was going home to take a shower as hot as she could stand it.
“I am sorry for making you wait, I needed to chat with James and let Jamie know that we were going to head out. I was thinking of stopping off at Burger king for an egg croissant, do you want one?”
Tara nodded her head yes and headed for the door. She was ready to go home and change, she had to ask her mom if she remembered to stop by the school and get her work so that she had something to do and she would not fall behind in class. It was too much for Tara to move around, she was getting big fast.
The last time she went to the doctor she actually told her she was getting big faster than most of her patients but not to be alarmed because it would be fine, that just means the baby is eating good. All she could do is listen to the doctor and try not to worry that she was gaining weight to fast.
She watched as Doug pulled through the drive thru and ordered their breakfast. This was nice being out and about this early; she hasn’t been to school in at least a month. Tara could smell the food wafting through the building out into the parking lot. It smelled so good it made her stomach growl.
Tara was embarrassed and tried to hide her face by looking out her window instead in the car around Doug, but he pulled her chin with his first finger and thumb, turning her head so she had to look into his eyes, and said” it’s okay I knew you were going to be hungry this morning, as I am starving and you are eating for you and the baby. Relax you don’t have to worry about so much.” He told her.
Neither one of them ate when they got their food; she wanted to wait until she got home and could enjoy her sandwich after her hot shower. “Thank you for bringing me home and for the breakfast. I will call you later when I know that you are out of school. Have a good day.” She told him getting out of his car.
She walked into her house and went straight to her room for a change of clothes; she needed a shower so bad. Tara was up every morning in the shower as soon as she crawled from her bed. She knew her mother was home because she saw her car in the drive way.
“Mom, I am home. Where are you?” she called out, going from room to room looking for her mother. She found her up stairs in her room, lying on her bed; she wasn’t doing anything but staring off into space.
“Mom what is wrong? Are you okay?” Tara cried out and ran over the bed kneeling down next to her mother.
“Hi Tara, I didn’t hear you come in. Where were you last night? I tried calling but it went straight to your voice mail.”
Tara’s cell phone died around ten last night and she didn’t know until it was too late to ask someone for their phone to call home.
“I am sorry; I forgot to charge my cell phone and didn’t realize it died until it was late so I stayed the night with Jamie, Doug, and James. I didn’t see much of Jamie to be honest with you; she was in her room forever.”
Tara stood up and looked down at her mother; she knew something was wrong she just didn’t know what it could be. She got in bed with her mom, Tara crossed her arms behind her head while she stared at the ceiling and crossed her legs locking her ankles and wiggling them back and forth. She felt her mom giggle and she let out her breath slowly so her mother didn’t know she had her sweating.
“Tara your father has called me and he said he will be here tonight at 7. I am sorry; I tried to talk him out of coming here. I even told him you were doing fine, not even thinking of him.”
Tara’s mouth fell open and her eyes got big. She didn’t understand, he didn’t want to be in her life and she didn’t want to be in his so what was the deal? She sat up in bed and asked, “What could he possibly want? I thought we said our peace.” She trailed off.
“I do not want to talk with him; he is not here for me. I bet he has something planned and I do not want any part of his crap. Tell him to go play daddy with his new family and leave us alone.” She had tears coming from her eyes as she got up and left her mother’s room to go to her own.
She got her clothes out as planned; Tara was tired of wearing stretchy clothes. She wanted to start wearing her tight jeans, her shorts, and tanks tops again. She grabbed a pair of sweats and a plain T-shirt and of course her panties and headed for the bathroom. When she first got up she thought it was going to be a good day, boy she has turned out to be wrong so far.
Steam from the shower has made her aching body fell better though she still had to think about her father. She didn’t get why he wanted to come and talk to her now, it has been months since she has seen her father last.

It is Not Going To Happen

As soon as Tara’s father left she jumped on her cell phone and wrote a text to Doug,” When you get a chance I need you to get back a hold of me. I am so pissed. I am sorry, I usually don’t curse but my father just left here.”
She paced her room for a few minutes before her phone started ringing, “Doug I am so mad. I can’t believe he even came here then he came to ask some BS. I can’t, well he is a jerk and he thinks he owns the world, which is his problem. Okay, bye.”
Tara went down stairs and sat on the couch waiting for Doug to come over. He was going into work an hour late for her, which was telling her more and more about him every day. By the time she got down the stairs and sat down her back started to ache and the she started having menstrual like cramps. She grabbed her stomach and rocked herself back and forth. She really needed Doug now, she was scared to death.
All of a sudden she was soaking wet. Tara got to her feet and looked down; she had to change her pants again. When she got half way up the stairs she felt something trickle from her again. She didn’t know what was going on so she started yelling, “MOM!”
Lana came running to the top of the stairs. “What is it?” she yelled back.
“I am soaked. I don’t know what happened, I was just sitting on the couch waiting for Doug to show up and then when I got up to walk up there stairs I felt more liquid. What is going on with me?” she cried.
She watched as her mother’s eyes got huge and she ran into Tara’s room, she didn’t know what her mom was doing in there and she was scared to move.
“Tara, I need you to go back down the stairs and wait by the door, I will be down there in a minute. I think Doug will be here by the time you get down there anyways so you will not be alone.”
Tara turned around and went back down stairs. She has never seen her mom look so panicked; does that mean she should be worried?
Before she made it to the last step she heard her front door open and in walked Doug, she was never so glad to see someone in her life as she was to see him. She smiled at him but he moved quickly by her side.
“What is wrong? Why do you look so worried or sick?”
She slide her hand into his and said, “I am not sure but my mom is acting weird and told me to go back down and wait at the door for her to come down.”
“You’re going to have your baby. Tara, it is time.” He told her smiling.
What could he be smiling about? She hurt at first and then all of a sudden wet with no more pain, she thought maybe she peed on herself to be honest. She was wrong and now that she let Doug’s words sink in she started to shake uncontrollably, she had to tighten her grip on Doug so she didn’t fall.
“How about you tell me what your father wanted? That way you keep this off your mind.” Doug said with a wave of his hand.
He helped her continue to walk and she told him,” MY father called my mom and told her he was going to come over here today, he had something he wanted to go over with me. He has not talked to me since I first told him I was pregnant; he had the nerve to ask me to give him and Stephanie my child. They want to raise her has theirs. Can you believe this crap he is pulling?” she asked.
Doug was staring at her with his mouth open, “He had the nerve to come ask you that? I will go over there as soon as we get you to the hospital. I am sorry Tara, I am here for you now and no one and I do mean what I am saying, will take your baby.” He smiled and kissed her forehead.
“Thank you for everything, don’t go over to his house. He is not worth a grain of salt.” They both turned to watch Lana fly down the stairs. She was flushed, with sweat on her face.
“We are ready to go, Hi Doug. I got the bad you need, the insurance card, and your notebook so you have something to do when no one is there with you.” She was pushing them gently out the door towards the car.
“Mom do not call dad. I do not care what he has said to you, I want to get the hospital and have my baby, and back home before him or Jake find out okay?” she asked.
She saw the worried look that crossed over her mother’s face when she told her what she wanted to happen. Her heart sank; she knew her mother called Jake or maybe both of them.
“What have you done? Whom did you call?”
She noticed her mother was speeding and barely stopping for stop signs. They were going to get there before the fifteen minute drive there. Her mother did not say a word until she pulled into the parking lot and found a spot to park near the entrance. “I am sorry Tara; I didn’t know you did not want me to call anyone. I called Jamie and Jake; I swear I did not call your father.”
Tara had no choice but to get out of the car and walk into the hospital with a heavy heart. She did not want Jake here or anywhere near her right now, she had Doug by her side and that is all she needed, well be sides her mother; she needed her at all times.
They got on the elevator that would take them to the maternity ward; Tara was moving on shaky legs and holding Doug’s hand as she approached the desk. She smiled at the nurse behind the desk and said,” Hi my name is Tara, I think my water broke about thirty minutes ago.” The lady smiled and stood up, coming from behind the desk she held her arm leading her down this narrow hallway, and turning left at the end of the hall then first room on the corner.
“The doctor will be in soon to check you, please put this gown on and make sure that the opening is in the back. Thank you so much.” She left taking Doug with her until Tara was dressed.
“Mom is this going to hurt a lot? I am so scared now that it is finally time to have the baby. I hope I am not in labor for 24 hours.” She had tears in her eyes talking with her mom.
“I am not going to lie to you, it is going to hurt. I don’t know how long you will be in labor as every woman is different. I think you are strong and you are going to make it through this just fine. Do you want me to have Doug come back when you are through dressing?”
“Yes I want Doug in here, mom please stay here to and do not let anyone in here besides the doctor. I love you mom, thank you for everything.”
Tara got undressed and finally got the gown on that tie in the back. She could keep her socks on but she had to take her under clothes off. She sat waiting on the bed for the doctor to enter the room. The door to the room opened and she looked up to see Doug walk through with a smile on his face; she could tell he was worried but he would never admit that to her.
“Are you going to be okay? I need to run home for a minute, check into work, and I will come right back, before you know it.”
Tara shook her head yes, secretly hoping he would make it back before the baby was born.

Tara Is In Labor

Tara closed her eyes for a brief moment thinking of the course her life has taken her. She thought she would be with Jake forever and raise their child; she never thought he was cheating or that she would find someone like Doug. This is not what she thought her life would be at all, 16 with a baby going to be born in any time now.
She opened her eyes because she could feel her mother staring at her. “What? You are just staring at me as if I have become some form of a monster.” She said feeling awkward.
“Nothing, I am watching you and looking at the monitors. I want to make sure you are okay.” Her mother smiled at her.
Before Tara or her mother could speak again the room door opened; she figured it was Doug and she plastered a smile on her face though she was feeling tired and she wanted to sleep.
When she locked eyes with the person in the door way she immediately got mad. She knitted her eyebrows together and her lips were a flat thin line. “What are you doing here, Jake?” she asked.
She watched him as he came further into the room, she didn’t know if he had seen her mother or not but he closed the door the heel of his foot and kept walking closer to the bed like he was in a daze. They both turned her head when Lana cleared her throat.
“What do you want Jake?” She repeated.
“I had to come check for myself if you were in labor or not. I can see it is true that you are. I am staying here Tara, until the baby is born. I want to know what we had together and I want visits.” He stated as though he had any rights.
Tara’s eyes got huge, her blood was boiling, and she wanted to get up and knock the crap out of him. “What makes you think I would ever let you see my child? I have not heard from you in nine months. What do you want?”
He stood there for a moment as he was trying to look as he was thinking. “Can we talk alone Tara? I mean damn you are not a child no more; you’re a mother.”
Tara shook her head yes at her mother when she saw her about to say something. She didn’t say anything until her mother was out of the room. Jake was right this was between them and she knew he was mad about something.
“Do you think I am stupid? I know all about you and this Doug character that has been hanging around you; you even stayed the night with him at Jamie’s house. You are a little whore aren’t you?” he asked her in an evil voice.
“I don’t see how that has anything to do with you first of all and second I didn’t sleep with anyone; I have been the one pregnant. You on the other hand have been screwing whatever moves.” She spat out.

“I want to see this child when it is born. I will not let you have sex with whomever you want and tell others that this is my child. If you don’t know who the father is just tell me now, got that.”
“You a….” the door opened and in walked Doug and the doctor. She has never been so happy to see someone in her life.
“I am here to check on you Tara, do you want everyone in the room with you when I do?” he asked eyeing everyone in the room.
“I want Doug for this part, then my mother to come back in when we are done.”
The doctor made sure Jake left, though he was complaining the whole time. My word was gold today and he did as I asked.
He sat on that black stool that is on wheels and checked her cervix again, Tara hated this part. She would have cramps when they did a pelvic exam.
“You should be feeling contractions any time and when you do I think your cervix is going to open up fast. I am going to give you another thirty minutes and check on you again. You are having your baby tonight.” The doctor walked out of the room and let her mother back in. She was glad they were able to keep Jake out.
Doug and her mother wanted to know what Jake said to her but she refused to talk about it. This was between her and Jake and she was not going to let him get away with talking to her like that.
“Mom is it possible to get a blood test done as soon as she is born? I just want the papers just in case it comes up later. You know what I mean?”
Lana’s eyes got big but she didn’t say anything and Tara was grateful for that. They were making Tara laugh, Doug was making silly faces or cracking jokes and her mother was talking about when Tara or Lana was born, the difference and all with the ages of time. Tara was having a good time even though she was in labor.
Lana excused herself; needing something from the cafeteria. When she was out of the room Doug turned to Tara and asked, “What did he want? I know he said something to you that he shouldn’t have. I could tell from your face when I walked in.”
Tara didn’t want to tell him the truth so she told him part of the truth instead. “He wants to have visitation with my daughter. Can you believe that?”
“That is not going to happen. You will fight him every step of the way and you have witness that says that you have not seen nor spoken to him in months. Believe me the law is more for the mother then the father so this will lean more in your way. You will have to work and go to school.”
Tara finally felt her first contraction start, it was pressure on her lower back and cramps as if she were going to start her period. She looked at Doug and said, “I think it is time, the contractions are finally starting.”
It did not take long for the cramps to turn into something much worse, it felt like she was being stabbed repeatedly in the same spot. She doubled over and clenched her stomach. Her forehead was beaded with sweat and her skin turned a pale color. She started to cry as the contractions came like a wrecking ball. She didn’t want to cry in front of Doug but she couldn’t stop the tears from falling down her face.
He stood up and walked over to stand behind her, she felt him start rubbing her back. That made some of the pain a little better, she groaned when he massaged her back and she would have a contraction. She wanted this to hurry and get over with. “Maybe we should let the doctor know that they have started. I think he should come in here and help me.”
Ten minutes later the doctor walked in and looked at Tara. He checked the machine. “It is time, I need to know now do you want to have an epidural or not?”
“I need the epidural; this pain is out of this world crazy. Please just make it stop.” She cried.
“They will back in less than five minutes to give you the shot and then it will be time for you to push your baby out and hold her.” He smiled walking out.
“I am so glad it is time for me to have her but I am scared to death to do this. I didn’t think it was going to hurt this bad, I really thought grownups told us that just so we wouldn’t have sex.”
Tara and Doug both laughed as if it was a joke. Maybe it was wrong that she wanted Doug here with her so bad, but she wasn’t going to say anything now that Jake was out there.

Holding Baby Tia

Tara had to sit up when the doctor came in to give her a shot, she crossed her ankles, leaned her head into Doug’s chest, and she had to cross her arms over her breast. They said it was so the patient didn’t jump so much when the needle penetrated the skin.
He said it was going to pinch and hurt some. It did pinch but it did not hurt nearly as bad as her contractions felt. The medication started working instantly and she was glad for that. She did not feel the pain in her stomach no more; she was not sweating so badly right now either. She was actually relaxed.
“How are you feeling Tara?”
“I do not feel the pain no more; I hope this does not wear off before the baby is born. I am in peace right now, I could fall asleep if I closed my eyes but I know the doctor will be in here soon.”
Lara was sitting near the window smiling, Doug was sitting in a chair next to her bed, and she was excitedly waiting for the birth of her baby.
“I see that you are feeling better. I am going to check you and make sure it is time for you to start pushing.”
He called in the nurses and they had a table type thing that had blankets and some other assorted things in it and pulled it near the bed.
“I am going to tell you when to push okay? Do not stop pushing until I have counted to ten then blow out your breath, count to five, and then pushing again.”
She did as she was told to and she felt like she was drained, there was nothing else for her to give. The doctor coached her through the end until the babies’ head popped out. When the baby fully came out the doctor yelled, “It is a girl!”
Tara collapsed on the bed, she was ready to close her eyes and sleep for a few hours but she knew she had to at least hold her daughter before she went to sleep.
“What are you going to name her?” The doctor asked her.
“I was thinking about Tia. What do you think mom?” she asked smiling; the look on her mother’s face told her she didn’t like the name, but she wanted to keep Tia as the name.
“Well you have until tomorrow at least to think it over fully, as of right now we are going to put the babies’ last name on the bedding she will be sleeping in.”
Before the doctor left the room she asked him the same question she asked her mother, “I was wondering is there a way we could do DNA right now? Before we leave the hospital I mean?”
“Yes, we can have that done by morning as long as all parties can be here.” The doctor said.
When the doctor left the room Lana walked over to the bed and looked down at her granddaughter then said, “Do you really want to name her Tia? I mean she has to keep this name the rest of her life.” She stated.
“Mom, please don’t start. I picked Tia and that is what her name is going to be. Now, what do you think of her? She looks like an angel to me. She looks more like me then Jake and I am thankful for that. I would like to see her eyes but she isn’t opening them right now.” She laughed.
Lana started snapping pictures galore of Tia, she was a proud grandmother even if Tara was too young, and she knew that her mother was not happy that she had a child so soon but she was not going to take it out on the baby or her daughter. Tara could not ask for a better family, they didn’t need Jake or her father.
“Mom I am so tired now, I am in need of some sleep. Does she stay in the room with me or does she have to be taken to the nursery?” she asked.
“As long as we are here then she is fine here. I think they take her when it is time for test or you are alone and go to sleep.” Lana told her daughter.
“Get some sleep; I am so proud of you. You did great.” Doug said.
Tara closed her eyes drifting into a heavy sleep. She was wore out from the whole the day, she didn’t want to deal with her father, she had her baby already, and now she was a mother but could not enjoy her baby because she was too tired to move.
She didn’t wake up until a nurse came into the room and checked her vital signs and pushed on her stomach. Tara opened her eyes and looked at the nurse; it was dark in the room now. She turned her head to the left and there was no one there either. “Where is my baby?”
“She is in the nursery; right now probably eating. We can go see her as soon as I am done checking you out. Your mom said she would be back in the morning.”
Tara didn’t want to be in the hospital all night by herself. She has never been away from her mom over night, not even at a sleep over; she had them at her house.
“Do you know what happened to the young man that was here with me?” she asked.
“He has gone to get something to eat. He should be back in a few if you would like to wait for him.” She smiled.
Tara laid her head back down, she wanted to go see her baby and she wanted to hold her but she also wanted to wait for Doug to come back in the room before she went to see Tia.
She ran her hand down her stomach and it felt weird to not have a lump there no more, it felt like jelly. It looked funny and it is to hard to explain, but she didn’t like it and told herself as soon as the doctor told her she could she was going to start exercising as soon as she was cleared to do so.
Doug walked in the room and Tara’s face lit up, she got happy every time she saw him. She said, “Do you want to go see Tia?
“Of course I do. I would love to be able to sit and hold her for a minute or two, if you don’t mind.” He said, looking shy all of a sudden. She had never seen him like that before.
The nurse told her she would bring Tia to her it would be easier but she did have to get up and start walking before she could go home tomorrow with the baby.
Neither Tara nor Doug said a peep waiting for them to bring Tia into the room with them. She didn’t think she has ever been this excited, not even when she was a child and it Christmas, and it was time to open the presents. This was the greatest gift she could ever receive.
“We forgot to ask you and we are sorry for that; are you doing to bottle or breast feed?”
“Bottle!” she screeched out.
She heard Doug laughing at her but she didn’t care, she didn’t want to breast feed. Delivery was bad enough and she heard stories about breast feeding your baby.
Doug bought a disposable camera that Tara didn’t know he had until he asked her, “would you take a couple pictures of me and Tia together?”
Tara knew she was going to fight tooth and nail to keep Doug in her life. When the time was right she was going to have Doug as her man. She was not letting him go to no other woman; she was going to be his woman. She secretly hoped.
