It's a cold night and you're fast asleep, warm and cozy. Snuggled down into the sheets your eyes are resting behind tired lids. Your ears, always alert, are listening to the buzz of the baby monitor lying on the nightstand, for a mother is never truly off duty.

Suddenly picking up the sounding alarm your startled from the precious sleep. Eyes fly open as you glance at the clock 1:37 am. Sighing, you hear the mommy cry of help and shake your head thinking "what could it be?". As your brain checks through the possibilities of what awakened him you pop quickly to your feet. At 8 PM you left your babe warm and snuggie in a blanket of his own; lying on his back and a full tummy to keep through the night. Knowing the short wails of frustration could quickly turn to tearful loud crying you hurry down the hall hoping to get there before he wakes up the house. Frustration is one word of many that comes to mind. You reach the door and taking a deep breath say a quick prayer for patience.

Opening the door you walk over to the crib saying aloud "Shhh, it's okay baby". You find your babe, who is now on all fours, peering up to find your voice. The flash of recognition crosses his face and he immediately grins. Pure joy spreads across his face, a smile only meant for you. As he looks up expectantly. You see that suddenly everything is right in his world again. Scooping him up you shake your head; it's impossible to be upset when he is so happy to see you.

Reminding yourself that he has no watch and can't read the clock you rock back and forth soothing with touch and sound. Thinking there will come a day where he won't call for your help and will no longer wish to be held, you take in the moment and caress his small back. Placing a soft kiss on the top of his head you breathe in his sweet scent as you listen to his breath slow to a steady rhythm. Bouncing your body with your babe's nestled into your chest you feel him relaxing. You can't help but smile because for in this moment everything is alright in your world too.
