"Hello?", she whispered, her voice coarse and faint. She knew someone had to be there with her. Someone always listened, right? If not, was she even making any sound right now? She was sure, some entity was there, watching, waiting for what would come next from her. Maybe even testing her. Something bigger than gods. Something way bigger than fate. Something infinite and something finite. Something. For sure.
"I will tell you how I got here", she started again, but her voice crackled. She straightened herself. Nothing in this space reminded her of anything. Nothing made her believe she wasn’t alone. Every crack in the dark ground beneath her, every small glitter in the alien-looking stone walls around her screamed for silence. Her voice echoed when she spoke. Her steps, her movements, and her breath did, too. But there were no other sounds than that. No other heat, other than that coming from her body.
Unconsciously, she had steadied herself on one of the walls. It felt almost icy to the touch, no sign of life anywhere. She took a deep breath, wondering what she was breathing in, how she was still alive. She cleared her throat to the best of her ability.
"I will tell you how I got here", she said, this time her voice was bolder, almost cunning, "I will explain myself and you will have to listen. After I am finished", she paused for a second to catch her breath, "after I tell you how I ended up in this – whatever this is, you might as well decide what happens to me next." Her limbs were waking up, she started to feel slightly more energized by her words. She took a step forward, looked straight ahead into nothing, and introduced herself.
