Acknowledgments

I would like to thank the many writers’ groups on Facebook, where there had been many constructive suggestions for anyone to become a legitimate self published writer.

My previous works, which were edited entirely by myself, and even got stocked up in 14 Singapore library branches all over the country, made me feel that editing was probably very easy and I slipped up.

My English deteriorated over time, after my previous out of print works. I was wondering why the libraries did not pick up my book again, even though this time my name had changed. I had highlighted to the libraries that I was having a few pen names but I did not realize my grammar was the problem in the latest book.

That book was the first edition of this book. Now I am republishing this second edition after hiring a freelance editor to work on it. I also hired a book cover designer to redesign the cover. Thank you, writers’ groups and people from the writers’ groups on Facebook!

The next one to thank of course is my friend and book cover designer, Jennifer Wilson-Niskanen. She is dedicated in her work and I hired her from oDesk, now called Upwork, the freelancer job portal website. Thank you Jennifer!

Christopher Williamson and Mandakini Poddar are two writer friends from USA and India respectively, who hang out in the writers’ groups on Facebook and have inspired me to constantly improve my English. Their endless thoughtful writings on Facebook and encouragement have kindled and kept the desire of improving oneself going for me. Thank you so much, Chris and Mandy!

I have many Facebook writer friends and they all inspire me in their own ways. Thank you all!

Thomas Heng from Multipreneur International Pte Ltd (Singapore) is like a brother to me, even though he is only a good friend. He is my guide and teacher in business matters being a business consultant as one of his many multi-careers. Being a fellow author, he also discusses book matters with me. He constantly encourages everyone he meets through his inspirational books and posts on social media. He is someone I can go to everyday, if I needed to, for advice on anything. I am thankful for his constant encouragement in all areas of my life. Thank you so much Thomas, my brother!

I want to thank everyone who has encouraged and supported me even after hearing about my personal life story and my struggles with schizophrenia in the past.

I also want to thank those who are on my side about my choice of multi-careers. These are the people who understand that even being mostly stabilized from my schizophrenia, I need a flexible working time environment as a career quality when in search for various income streams.

Lastly, I would like to thank CreateSpace.com, Lulu.com and BookRix.com and many other kinds of self publishing companies who are free to use and only charge a commission from the book royalties! They help make it possible to widely distribute self published works whether it be in print or ebook versions. That is totally amazing! Thank you so much!

Thank you to anyone at all who have helped!

From my heart,

Yuna Angell

Chapter 1

The people of Nunos, the phoenix kingdom, loved communicating with the Nunos phoenixes. It was the tradition of the kingdom that the phoenix queen and the phoenix king were guardians of the human royalty. The Wizard Hugh and his wife, Wizardess Solia, were High Priest and High Priestess of Nunos. The current Nunos phoenix bird royalty were Alera and Avitor and they trained the human royalty in healing powers.

Wizard Hugh was worried about the message he had received that day from the phoenix oracle stones. They foretold that someone important would be lost and it will cause quite a commotion in the kingdom’s palace. Wizard Hugh passed the word along to bolster troop numbers at all watchtowers across Nunos. Wizardess Solia comforted Queen Gilda who was distressed by the news. Queen Gilda was afraid someone might be kidnapped, and considered Wizard Hugh’s security measures wise. Queen Gilda was deeply grateful for Wizardess Solia’s presence. It made a huge difference to her.

Alera and Avitor flew over the city in Nunos, then hovered over the royal palace. They could see the unrest in the nervous movements of the soldiers. They then altered course for the outskirts, landed near Wizard Hugh’s cottage sanctuary and approached him to find out the cause of the commotion. Wizard Hugh hung his heavy head down, looking thoroughly disconsolate.

Alera bobbed her head in acknowledgment, “Wizard Hugh, Avitor and I noticed that all the soldiers in Nunos appear anxious. Are you going to war? With whom?”

“Alera, the phoenix oracle stones warned of someone important going missing. So we have simply stepped up the security.”

Avitor nodded in understanding and said, “Wizard Hugh, we will ask our phoenix brothers and sisters to be on the lookout for any humans who are lost in Nunos. I hope that helps.”

Wizard Hugh offered firefruit to Alera and Avitor for their help. Firefruit were fruits like apples but they glowed and had nutrients and powers which helped phoenixes. They were quite the delicacy for Nunos phoenixes. Alera noticed that Wizardess Solia was absent.

Alera asked, “Wizard Hugh, where is your dear wife?”

“She’s with Queen Gilda now. She was already expected by the Queen. Solia promised to help her with some gown fittings, and so they are having lunch together.

Avitor and Alera remained at the cottage sanctuary for a while to discuss some details regarding the upcoming summer solstice festival. Deep in discussion, they did not notice Prince Kyle ride past the cottage sanctuary. Prince Kyle stopped at the city shop and purchased a guide to the mysterious, and unfamiliar modern world that awaited him outside the closed, protective palace walls. The cottage sanctuary was part of the royal palace plot of land.

Prince Kyle sat down on the bank of the river that meandered through the countryside before flowing through the city. He rummaged in his pack for a snack of rye bread and the guide to the modern world. The guide advised shopping for modern clothing, so as not to appear provincial or strange to citizens of the modern world. The Nunos kingdom style of dressing was medieval, and so to fit in and avoid unwanted attention, Prince Kyle needed modern clothing.

Prince Kyle got up, dusted the bread crumbs off his clothes and rode to the clothing shop that sold modern world clothing. The shop had taken out a huge advertisement in the guide, so he easily found the place. He bought two sets of clothing and left, having bought two t-shirts, one pair of trousers, one pair of jeans and two spare pairs of underwear.

Prince Kyle changed into modern clothes at the inn while his horse enjoyed a well-deserved feed in the stable. He was one hour’s ride away from the stone circles in Nunos that allowed dimensional travel. The modern world was in another dimension just as Avalon was in another dimension of England. Nunos was primarily a medieval world except for a smattering of rifles and other modern weapons imported from the modern world in case other dimensions got up to no good. King Samuel spared no expense when it came to protecting his kingdom. There had been instances when Nunos had come under attack from other dimensions which wanted to capture the strange and majestic phoenixes. Queen Gilda was so angry at the invaders’ audacity, she won together with King Samuel every time for the sake of Alera and Avitor, the royal phoenix birds of Nunos.

Prince Kyle’s aunt, the Duchess Matilda, had been known as the kindest woman in the kingdom and it would be the anniversary of her death in a few weeks. Her favorite servant had been Eliza Gouldings, who had been her seamstress in her manor when she was alive. Prince Kyle had found Eliza’s modern world address and wanted to invite Eliza to visit the grave of his aunt, Duchess Matilda, for her death anniversary. He had heard that Eliza moved to the modern world with her son Mike a couple of years ago because Mike had taken an interest in the modern world. Eliza’s husband had passed away for years and she decided it was time to change their environment and lifestyle to forget the pain of losing her husband.

Though separate, trade with the modern world was not unheard of, and a cloth merchant managed to secure a job for her. She took up teaching dressmaking in the modern world and Mike, her son, was offered a place at a nearby school. Prince Kyle wanted to make it up to Eliza. She must be lonely in the modern world, or so Prince Kyle assumed.

Prince Kyle had his lunch at the inn, sitting in the sunshine at the front, while watching a group of soldiers milling around outside. He wondered what they were up to but he had to rush; the afternoon, for magickal reasons in Nunos, always appeared the most effective time to travel using the stone circles.

Dhoby, Prince Kyle’s horse, would be dropped off at Dakola Stables. Opened specifically for inter dimensional trade, the nearby stable kept the steeds safe whilst Nunos travelers were about their business. Prince Kyle arrived promptly at Dakola Stables and booked in his horse, requesting that the owner ask the royal palace to come collect Dhoby. Seeing the Glensville Stone Circle up close was quite an experience, the largest of the thirty or so dimensional portals.

Holding the oak wand that Wizard Hugh had gifted him since he became Wizard Hugh’s apprentice in his childhood, Prince Kyle summoned the vortex, using an ancient mantra taught to all royal children! Prince Kyle closed his eyes and felt the breeze lift around him gently massaging his skin, until suddenly it stopped. He then opened his eyes and saw a building around half a mile away. The stone circles that surrounded him now were identical to the ones that were around him
