Chapter 1
After so long in hiding with these humans I have grown accustomed to them and have learned their ignorant ways. But my time of hiding has ended he has found me. The one I thought I had left in my distant past.
“Hey Luna some new guys in the office and he is H-O-T hot. Have you seen him yet?” She had brown hair and hazel eyes and stood at 5’2” a complete contrast to what I look like I had black hair and light blues eyes and stood 5’ exactly. “Hey Layla, No I haven’t seen him yet but hopefully I might see him soon,” I said. “Haha hopefully.” she said. The bell rang. “Oops got to go, see you after class” I said “See ya” She said. Off I went to my next class wondering who the new boy could be.
Right when I walk into my next class I stop dead in my tracks there he was right in front of me. I thought he was out of my life for good but I guess it was too good to be true. As soon as I gathered my wits I walk completely into the classroom. “Hey Luna,” said Benjamin. “What’s up Luna,” said Rodrigo. I smile at them “Hey Rodrigo, Hey Benjamin,” I said as I walked in and did my hand shake for both of them. When I look up after taking my seat he is staring at me, I stare back then he gives me a daring smile. Who knew I would see his face again (Jonah) after so long? “Hey Luna,” said Jonah. “You know her, I thought you were new?” Asked Rodrigo. “Yah, we go way back.” said Jonah while never taking his eyes off of me. All I could do was look at him still wondering how he figured out I was here in Vordona where it all started.
Class started but my head was in the clouds so I wasn’t all there with them that lesson, I spent the whole period staring at Jonah who thanks to my luck was sitting in front of me. After the bell rang for class to be over I confronted Jonah.
“Hey Jonah can I talk to you for a bit?” I asked. All the girls around him just stared at me while we walked away. “So how did you find me?” I said. Still wondering what I saw in him way back then. Maybe it was his beautiful grayish green eyes or his amazing body with his rippling muscles. Or was that he was taller than me and I had to look up at him to see his beautiful eyes, with his chin and amazing cheekbones in full view. And he always has his hair styled but messy looking. I was pulled out of my revere by him talking. ”I don’t know what you’re talking about.” He said. “You know completely well what I’m talking about.” I said. ”Why did you come here,” I said.
He just looked at me then he did something I never expected him to do. He KISSED ME! Out of know where kissed me looked deep inside my eyes and seen something and kissed me, and I let him. How could I let him, maybe it was the shock but that was no excuse to let him kiss me even for a second? Then I got my head working right and pushed him off of me.
As I was pushing Jonah off of me Luke was coming around the corner. Luke is my boyfriend and captain of the football and baseball team so he is always with at least one person from his passé preferably Brady his right hand man.
“Hey! What do you think you're doing with your hands around my girlfriend?!” Said Luke with rage and a very scary looking glare. “Sorry man I didn’t know this beautiful lady here had one boyfriend or friends.” Jonah said with a sheepish smile. That made Luke madder; he put his arm around me and pushed me behind him. Jonah looked at me and gave them a devilish grin. Luke saw the grin and got furious he started swinging at Jonah. I tried getting between them but was pushed aside. When Luke swung Jonah avoided very easily and that made Luke even madder. He gave a low growl and dove for Jonah. But Jonah was too fast and ended up on the other side of Luke so fast it was inhuman. That was when I knew I had to get Jake out of there. “Luke stop it!!”I yelled and lucky for me I was loud enough for him to hear me. I guess there is an upside to being captain of the cheerleading squad. He looked up and gave me an expectant look. “Leave him alone he’s not worth it.” I said.
He nodded and I grabbed his hand and started walking off with him alongside me. Not looking back at Jonah but I could feel his devilish grin on the back of my head I shivered. While heading to my next class I wondered what Jonah will do. Will he let me live my “normal” life (doubt it).Or will he make my life a living hell, now that he has found me and knows my secret. What will become of me? All I could think of that day was Jonah, wondering what he would do.
”Hey dad how was work?” I said.” Hey baby girl, work was good how about you how was school.” My dad said as he kissed me on my forehead. “Um dad I don’t know how to tell you but we got a new student.” I said. ”Oh really who’s the new kid?” He said one eyebrow raised in curiosity. ”Umm that’s the thing it sort of kinda is Jonah Cambal.” I said. As I was saying that he was grabbing a plate from the cupboard, he stopped dead in his tracks and put it back. “Jonah,” He said. “Yah,” I said. “I think I’m going for a run.” He said. “Ok, but watch out for hunters and make sure to stay in the woods... later can we both go for a run I need one after today.” I said. ”Yah later we can go.” He said. He got dressed in basketball shorts and a tee-shirt and left the house.
After a while alone in the house I got bored so I got my keys to my G37 Convertible and went riding around the town. I live in a small town called Vordona population 5,698. As I was driving I saw someone that looked a lot like Luke so I pulled over and there was Luke all bloody I got out and ran to him. “Luke what happened to you?!” I said in shock. He just looked at me with pained eyes and a drooping posture. He looked at me for a while we stayed like that then he kissed me and I kissed him back. After he pulled back I asked him “What happened and don’t tell me it was nothing.” I said. He hugged me and all I could do was stand there and let him do it. After a while in silence “You need to tell me what happened.” I said. He let go of me and wiped his tears. He opened and closed his mouth like a fish gasping for water. After he carefully considered his words he began to speak. ”I-I’m sorry I didn’t mean to.” He said “What did you do,” I said. “She pushed herself on me I wasn’t able to control myself.” He said. All I could do was stare at him and stepped back getting my distance from him as understanding dawned on me.
“Who was she; I thought we were doing well what was I not good enough for you that you had to go with another girl!” I said. “I am sorry I didn’t mean for any of this to happen.” He said while he looked at me to see my reaction. All I could do was look at him with a total look of shock and pain mixed together plain on my face. I looked down and gave a sigh “I don’t know what to think anymore I can’t believe you could betray me like that,” I said trying to keep the tears out of my eyes. “Luna I’m sorry I…” “I think we should brake-up,” I said cutting him off efficiently. While keeping my head down not able to hold back the tears as an involuntary sob came out and that was my undoing. I ran off to my car looked back at him saw the misery and then I saw Jonah behind him. I looked into his eyes and saw the pain there, I don’t know what he would be sad about I was the one betrayed, but it was gone in a flash replaced with a look of nothing. I couldn’t get that glimpse of what I thought was pain on Jonah’s face out of my head. I don’t know if it was about, either that we broke-up or that I was completely miserable that Luke could betray me like he did. Getting in my car I drove to my house just remembering that I was supposed to go running today. So when I went in the house and into my room I was surprised to see Jonah, lounging on my bed looking at my pictures on my dresser of my parents and me before my mom died five years ago. Also there are pictures of me and my friend Layla when we went to Hawaii last summer.
“So how was it with lover boy,” He said. I snorted and walked to my drawer grabbed some clean dry clothes and walked into my bathroom, closed the door and locked it. While I was changing he kept talking. “You know it was despicable what he did with that other girl,” He said. All I did was listen not trusting myself to talk, because I knew I will either burst into tears that I was holding in or I would say something I would regret. So I stayed silent pretending that I didn’t hear anything. I looked in the mirror saw that my mascara was running I grabbed my makeup remover, went back to the mirror and started taking it off. After I finished taking off my mascara. I turned around and Jonah was right in front of me, I stepped back and ran into the sink Jonah started walking toward me he was so close to me that I can feel his warm breath and smell his musky cologne I can touch him with just a flick of my wrist.
I finally asked the question that was going around in my mind since the first time I saw him that day. “What do you want from me,” I said He gave me a devilish grin and said “What makes you think I want something,” He said. “Why else would you be here,” I said. “I liked the curriculum,” He said. “No not school and not town either, what are you doing in my room?” I asked. “Nothing I just wanted to see you but it is obvious you don’t want to see me though,” He said with that daring smile just like the wolf tried to deceive little red riding hood. “What else would you be doing here, after all this time after the war I left to get away from it and then you show up,” I said. He was quite for a while after a bit of silence I snickered and started to walk off saying “That’s what I thought.” He let me walk a little past him and then grabbed my hand and pulled me back I tripped and ended up against his chest. I stared up into his eyes and said “Well then speak up, unless you pulled me back for no reason.” He stared into my eyes as well and I felt my heart pick up speed. “I came back because I missed you and wondered how you were.” He said. I snickered and couldn’t help but think of that disastrous night.
We were in the middle of war us facing our opponents I was next to Jonah like always, what else was I supposed to do when I was betrothed to him. All the men were lined up I was the only girl on the battle field. We were waiting for the signal for us to attack from the general in command and that was in front and able to be seen by all on an elegant black horse. I grabbed Jonah’s hand for confidence he looked at me and gave me a ‘we are going to be ok’ smile and I gave him one back. “Just follow me I will make sure nothing happens to you,” He said. I nodded and said “Okay.” My heart started to beat faster and faster with more and more time that pased until the signal was made. I was equipped with a shield and a sword with throwing knives in my sleeves and boot a bow strapped behind me and about twenty-four quivers and two extra hidden in my other boot. I was also equipped with body armor enough to protect me but not so much where I was not able to move reflexively and elegantly. When the general gave the signal for us to advance we did it with poise and speed but we wasn’t fast enough for us to look like barbarians. I stuck to Jonah as I was told and stuck as close as I could while advancing. Once we were half across the battle field did they start advancing after they started to advance we started to run and they started to run then we started yelling our battle cries.
Each side met together fights springing everywhere, I lost Jonah while in the process I was on my way to go find him when all of a sudden there was a guy three times the height that I was 5’5. He was in complete contrast to what I looked like where I had black hair as black as night he had blond hair as bright as the sun. My green eyes a complete contrast to his brown. What little I saw of his skin was covered with tattoos where all I had was a birth mark on my collar bone in the shape of what others would say looked like a wolf other than that he was the complete opposite of me.“What is a pretty little thing doing in a bad place like this,” He said. I got in my stance and he was astonished either that I was standing up to fight when I’m like an ant to him. “Hahaha,” He laughed and that made me mad. He stuck out his hand either in a mocking submission gesture or to try and grab me, but either way that was a mistake and I slashed at him and was satisfied to see blood and a howl escapes from him. “You bitch,” He yelled. “Now, now is that a proper way to speak to a lady,” I said in a mocking tone and a childish grin on my face. He gave a growl and lunged at me which I dodged easily because he is a big oaf that doesn’t know how to coordinate moves. He got up and took another lunge at me; I took a step to the side and slashed at his leg saw more blood and heard another howl. Another man stood up to help his friend another mistake he came running. I threw my hand down and felt my throwing knife slide into my hand I grabbed it correctly and threw it; it struck home in the middle of his chest he fell dead instantly I did this in under a second. The big oaf, stood up again limping. Never underestimate your opponent, no matter size or shape you never know what they can do I always say. He didn’t lunge like he did the first time he came upon me smart move there. He circled me and I circled him he did not see me swish my hand and take out my other throwing knife. I threw it and another strike home not in his chest to much muscle to really do any damage in his chest, but in his neck it protruded from his neck he had a shocked face when he fell dead. I went up to both dead bodies grabbed my throwing knives cleaned them and put them back in the holster. I took off looking for Jonah again when I was running someone grabbed me I turned fast and was ready to strike but I saw that it was Jonah that grabbed me. “I thought I told you to stay next to me,” He said. “I did then I lost you in the middle of all the fighting,”
“Well from now on stay right next to me okay,” He said. “Okay,” I said. He gave me a serious look that said ‘don’t play with me’ so I repeated myself but louder. While we were having this little conversation in the middle of the battle field three guys came up behind Jonah. I threw my hands down and my throwing knives came rushing I threw two and struck home, grabbed my sword and defended the first attack whirled my sword with the flick of my wrist and sent the opponents sword flying in the air. He kept running and ran past me so I turned and cut him down. Jonah looked at me with a shocked face. “I didn’t know that you can move like that or had the elegancy to go with the skills either,” He said. He said that when I was bent down getting my throwing knives from the bodies, I didn’t know whether to take that as a complement or an insult. “Now you do,” I said with a wink. He held out his hand and I took it then he took off and I followed him. As I was running after Jonah I ran into more soldiers, again asking why a girl was on a battle field. So again I had to do what I needed to do and showed then what a sweet girl like me was doing on a battle field.
I could tell that Jonah was just imagining what I was imagining, when I looked into his eyes. Then I heard my dad calling me downstairs in the living room. “Luna are you home,” “Yes dad,” I said. “Just a minute,” I went down stairs told him I had to put some stuff up in my room and went back up. Jonah was gone and the window was wide open and the blinds where fluttering about. I went over to it and closed it shut.
Then I went back down and we left the house. On the drive to the forest I couldn’t help but thinking of that day I first found out about myself and my heritage. The car stopped and we both got out and walked to the old Mc. Garnet house we walked straight into the house and started getting supplies we might need when we go running. Shoved that all in a back-pack and left to go running. After we found our spot we took all the supplies we brought out of the back-pack (water, extra clothes, salve, first aid kit, and a map). Once we got all the supplies out of the back-pack I looked at my dad we nodded at each other and got down all fours then the change came on. The agonizing pain of the change where your bones feel like they are splitting into two and your skin is being ripped into millions of pieces. As if your brain is splitting into two different parts, where one part of your brain is in control and the other is in stand-by mode and you’re seeing through different eyes, hearing through different ears. Then finally the pain ends and we take off running through the forest. The pain will subside with time but right now im still a new to the werewolf side of life so the pain is still there. I have seen my dad change a couple times and he doesn’t seem to be going into pain when he changes so I know there is truth to the saying. It hasn’t been long since I found out that I was a werewolf.
I still remember that day when I followed my dad to these very exact woods and saw him change, I changed that exact time. As the transformation finished and I was a wolf I followed him from a distant. It was weird for me the first time the sights the smells and the sounds, I was able to see in the dark and smell and hear miles away from where I stood. As I was following him he all of a sudden started to run I tried to follow but he was too fast for me and my new body. I stopped and looked around for him but he was no were in sight then out of the corner of my eye I saw a flicker of light. I turned and there was a man with a gun staring at me with the gun pointed at me I growled and he gave a gasp and took a step back but never put down the gun. He was shaking but kept the gun still right when he was about to shoot, out came a bark and a growl and something lunged at the hunter. I turned around and ran; I ran as fast as I could away from the man and the thing that attacked him. When I couldn’t run anymore I stopped while panting. I heard the rustle of leaves and turned around as fast as I could but not fast enough I was jostled by a body and was pinned down by another wolf. I kicked my hind legs and sent the other wolf flying I got up in a flash and stood growling at the wolf. He was black with a little bit of brown blotches all over his coat and a white patch over one eye his eyes where the same as my dad’s but I didn’t put that in notice till later and was twice the size I was. I was black with a white line going all around my neck and half way up the back of my neck and the same eyes I have had. I growled and let out a bark with a lunge towards the other wolf to let him know that I was not going to give up. He tilted his head like I was a joke to him and took a step towards me.
Then I heard a voice in my head. “Do you not recognize me dear daughter,” said the other wolf. I couldn’t help but gape at him I didn’t know we could communicate like that basically being a pup in this new world. “DAD!” I said. As realization took place I went up to him and gave a sniff. It smelled just like him and then I remembered I was following my dad in the woods and lost him this wolf looked exactly like the wolf I was following. “I didn’t mean to scare you,” He said. Then dawning hit me the hunter that was going to shoot me. “Dad we have to go there is a hunter in these woods he was about to shoot me but something attacked him,” I said. “It’s alright hunny you don’t have to worry about that, I was the one who attacked him when I noticed that you were following me I took off and started to follow you. I saw the hunter so I went behind him and attacked him, when I looked up you were gone. So I followed your scent and met you here.” He said. I looked up at him in surprise. “You knew that I was following you,” I said. “Yes after all I have had practice being a werewolf longer than you have and also you don’t have that much skill at stalking prey yet.” He said. “Can you teach me all the secrets of being a werewolf dad,” I said. “Yes but I have some things to settle… You can come if you want,” He said. “Sure, where you headed,” I said. “Oh you will see when we get there,” He said.
So then we took off to an unknown place that I didn’t know. The first thing that hinted me off that there was someone or somebody near was the scent I could smell it everywhere. “We are just passing a border line so you will be able to pick up a strong scent,” He said. “Okay I got it, is it that easy to smell even for me,” I said. “Yes it will be,” He said. So we kept on moving when we finally arrived I stuck to my dad as close as I could. There was a ridge with two wolves on it and then a plain with about I’d say seven maybe eight wolves. “Luna this is what we call the den” My dad said. A wolf on the ridge the bigger of the two saw us and called us over. “Lucius come over here,” Said the wolf. He was a bit taller than my dad with brown fur and a scratch on his cheek. We walked over when we were on the ridge I noticed that everybody was looking at us specifically me but one pair of eyes stuck out more than the rest. They were grayish green eyes and they stared at me with a bit of curiosity. I stuck my head out a little higher.
“Lucius what brings you here and who is this right next to you?” He said. “Marcus this is my daughter Luna,” My dad said. “Your daughter! But you said it wouldn’t happen until later on,” Marcus said. I turned my head and saw the same shine of light that I saw in the forest. I got up from sitting down and walked down the ridge, past every wolf in the den. I could tell all the eyes were on me, I could hear my dad calling my name behind me. “Luna… Luna…Luna,” He said. But I kept walking mesmerized by the light. As I got into the woods I would see the light then it would disappear, when I got to the light a second time. I saw the man with the gun he saw me and raised his gun; I growled and crouched ready to pounce on him. He fired at me but missed I pounced knocking the gun out of his hands, I saw him run to the gun but I beat him to it I pounced again biting onto his arm I heard him yell in pain. As soon as I felt my paws hit the ground I yanked at his arm and he flew. He fell right next to his gun he grabbed it and shot I felt a hot pain in my front right leg I yelped. Then I heard leaves being tasseled by running feet I turned around to see a wolf I couldn’t see clearly who it was but he was running straight at the man. The wolf pounces and knocks the gun out of the man’s hands lands softly on all fours, then pounces again knocking the man down growls in the man’s face then grabs ahold of his neck and rips it out. The wolf walks towards me. “Are you alright,” “I nodded, but by nodding my head all the blood drained from my head I felt a pulse then I felt the ground come rushing towards me.
The wolf grabbed me and threw me over his shoulder. As soon as he stepped foot in the den my dad comes running towards us. “What happened,” He said. He nodded and started to explain what happened to my dad. My dad took me and put me into a cave under the ridge where a she wolf tended to my wounds while I was still asleep, she told my dad that it was just a graze. He asked her why I passed out and she explained that it was just shock.
The next day I woke and found my dad lying down beside me still in his wolf state I got up and walked out of the cave. I looked around and saw the wolf that saved me yesterday I walked over to him and he stood up. “Hey sorry for not thanking you the other day,” “It’s alright after all you did pass out,” I looked down in embarrassment. “Yah, anyways thank you for saving me last night I am still new too all this,” I said. “You’re welcome,” “By the way my name is Luna,” “Jonah,” He said then I heard my dad call me “Well it was nice meeting you,” I started to walk off but turned around and said “I hope to see you again,” He smiled and I walked off with my dad and took a glance back at Jonah saw that he was still looking at me, and turned around and walked into the woods and home.
Once we were out of the forest and changed back into our human forms, my dad started to explain what the den was for and what we do there. “The den is for meetings so basically there is a council for wolves, it’s like when you hang out with friends or have a meeting for a school curriculum,” “Okay” I said. Deep inside my head I was wondering when I could see Jonah again. Would I have to wait until a meeting or must I think of something else just to see him. “There is a system to us just like the president, vice president, and then there is the population. There is the alphas aka the president, Beta aka vice president, and then there is the omegas the population.” He explained. “So who is who?” I asked. “We are the omegas, Markus is the alpha and his son Jonah is the beta.” He said. “Oh, okay” I said contemplating what I just learned while I was pondering I didn’t even notice that we pulled up to the house I walked up to my room changed and went to bed as soon as my head hit the pillow I was out cold.
We ran through the forest not a care in the world heading for the den. As soon as we got there Marcus called to us we took our spot on the ridge and the meeting began. “We have a problem on our hands…Jonah has come back to Vordona,” My dad said. As soon as my dad mentioned the name Jonah there where whispers heard all around the den. “How do you know that Jonah is back have you seen him,” Marcus said. “No but Luna has, he is in the same school as her,” I nodded in agreement to my dad’s words. “It is true I have seen him, and I think he pulled some strings to be in every one of my classes,” I said. “Yes, well we are going to have to wait and see what Jonah wants until then let’s keep it on a down low until we figure out what else to do,” Marcus said. We all agreed and the meeting was finished. After me and my dad said our good byes we took off and ran into the forest, it always helps me clear off some steam when I run.
“Oof!” I said as something ran into me and knocked me off my feet. I got on my feet faced the intruder and gave a low growl baring my teeth. But it was gone nowhere to be seen. I stick my nose to the grown trying to catch a scent and caught one right away it was really strong you can smell cologne, I swear I have smelt it somewhere before but I cannot put my mind on it. I follow the scent until I lose it. When I lift my face from the trail after following it, I notice that I am in the den and that there is someone on the ridge looking up at the sky. I approach slowly then I hear a howl I know it is my dad trying to figure out where I was but I do not answer back. I got about three feet the wolf when he said. “Don’t come any closer,” I didn’t even think he saw me.
I sighed “And to think that I was improving on my stalking skills.” He didn’t answer me but stared up at the sky taking in the view. I looked up to see what he was looking at but it was a normal moonlit night. “It wasn’t your stalking skills but your scent, next time do it down wind,” he looked at me. I gasped he had the most gorgeous eyes; they were a very dark royal blue with the outside a light blue they were a sight to see. “May I ask, who you are,” I said. He looked at me and stared, “You can just call me Adam.” “Hmmm Adam ok well hi Adam my name is Luna,” He looked at me and gasped “Your Luna, you’re the she wolf every bodies talking about” He said. “I guess, I don’t really know what you’re talking about,” I shrugged then I heard my dad howl again this time longer probably getting worried. “Well I guess I better go, nice to meet you Adam I hope to see you again,” He nodded at me.
I took off running toward where I heard my dad howl. I stopped at the edge where the trees start growing and looked back at Adam I smiled and howled telling my dad I’m going turned around and ran into the woods. I couldn’t stop thinking about Adam and what a mystery he was and what he said why was everybody talking about me I’m not that important.
I found my dad and he came running toward me asking me where I was and what I was doing while checking me over for any wounds. “I’m fine dad I just got side tracked in my thinking, you know how I am and what running does to me,” I said. “Yah your right, you ready to go home it’s about to be light hunters will be out,” “Okay, let’s go” we took off as fast as we could racing each other to the car like we always do he always wins he is the fastest one in the pack. I got to the car before my dad for the first time in my life and in the millennium that the pack has been alive. I was so ecstatic that I even called my dad old which led to a round of rolling in the dirt with him. It was fun and once we got into the car in human form we were laughing our butts off and couldn’t stop talking about how I won well I couldn’t stop talking about it. Once we got to the house I went to my room and passed out on my comfortable bed lucky me it was the weekend and I didn’t have to wake up early or didn’t have to see Luke.
When I woke up it was three o’clock in the afternoon I can’t believe I slept for so long I walked into the kitchen all groggy from just waking up. My dad was on the table doing something for work. “Good morning sleeping beauty,” I looked at him and smiled at him in my pink fluffy slippers and grabbed a cup of coffee that was just brewed my dad I can drink this all day; I inhaled the sweet smell, took a sip and sighed. Then I heard a knock my dad got up and went to go answer the door I went up to my room and got changed into a cute blue button up blouse with some miss-me-jeans and my favorite light blue pumps. Then I heard my dad call my name, I went down and saw Luke at the front door. “Luke go away I don’t want to see you,” I said while still on the steps my dad looked at me surprised at what I said to Luke he liked him, he thought he was a good boyfriend for me to have. I snorted and walked back up to my room I was lucky my dad didn’t come up to check on me while I bawled my eyes out. After I was about done crying my dad came up and saw my red face I hated that about myself, my cheeks turn red when I cry.
“Sweetie what is the matter,” He said with a look of concern. “I’m sorry dad I meant to tell you yesterday but I forgot, but yesterday when you left I took off in the car and saw Luke he looked depressed so I stopped and I could see the tears in his eyes I got out of the car and he told me what happened so I broke up with him when he told me,” I explained. “But why did you break up with him he was such a great gentleman…” “He slept with another girl dad!” I basically screamed at him, he seemed taken aback. “That son of a bitch, how could he do that to my little girl,” He said grabbing me and hugging me finally letting it out I sobbed into his chest, when I was done crying he grabbed me by my shoulders and made me face him. “If anybody ever does that to you again you tell me right away and I will deal with it, okay?” I nodded and smiled at him. He hugged me again and went to his room he came back with some cash he handed it to me and I looked at him with a puzzled look in my eyes. “Here you take this and take Layla with you and you go buy yourself something to get your mind off of things ok” I nodded took the money called Layla hugged my dad good-bye and drove to the mall.
I bought myself a whole new outfit and then took Layla to go get a smoothie at Barneys our favorite place to get a smoothie and anything we want. Once we were done we went to the house and dropped off our bags in my room and just sat down. “So what was with your dad giving you money to go shopping,” I looked down at my hands and explained to her what happened to me and Luke.
When I was done explaining to her and the shock on her face turned to understanding she grabbed me and hugged me. “Do you want to go running,” I nodded Layla was one of the few people that understood what I have been going through and knows my secret after all she is one just like me. So we took off in my car and I told her about how I met Adam but I did not tell her about what he said. “Oooh mystery man don’t you see its fate that you two met first you brake-up with Luke then you meet Adam. I think you and Adam where meant to be,” She said all I could do was smile and shake my head. We arrived at the forest right when the sun went down I had left a note on my dad’s laptop back at home telling him where we were. “You ready,” I asked Layla nodded. We got out of the car got undressed and shifted we looked at each other. Layla was grayish with white splotches all over her pelt and a black muzzle. I was the first one to start running with Layla right behind me. I led her to the den and we took a break panting. I walked over to the little creek behind the den and took a long drink.
When I looked up Adam was right there looking at me. I growled a low growl deep in my throat then died it off when I notice that it was Adam. “Oh, Hey Adam where did you come from? I didn’t see you when I got to the creek.” “From over there,” He pointed with his snout at a bush. “What are you doing here?” “I was just in the neighborhood and heard running feet from here,” “Yeah me and my friend Layla were running today so I thought we would stop here to take a break and cool down,” He looked at me with a curiosity that I haven’t seen in any bodies eyes ever since, I was a cute little girl trying to sneak cookies from the cookie jar on the top of the fridge and got caught. “What,” I said. He looked at me again after taking a sip from the creek. “What, Oh nothing I was wondering about some things.” He said. “Oh, hey would you like to meet Layla she’s just around the den. She’s nice and I promise she won’t bite.” I said with a smile. He smiled back and said “No I must go I have a few errands to do before I can meet anybody or do anything.” I nodded at him and told him good bye while I headed back to the den. I couldn’t help but smile back at him.
When I walked into the den Layla wasn’t there she was gone. I looked everywhere around the den and couldn’t find her my heart was picking up beat as I got worried. I howled for her but I didn’t get a response and that worried me even more. I heard a howl and I was so worried for Layla that I ran straight from where I heard it. I didn’t even bother to hear if it was her or if it was another wolf or somebody else.
I arrived at the spot where I knew I heard it but there was no one to be seen anywhere. I put my nose to the ground and got a good sniff everybody told me that I was the best tracker in the pack so I wasn’t surprised that I found a scent. But the scent wasn’t Layla’s but it did smell familiar. I heard a snap and gave a growl then I noticed something silver on the ground. I went towards it and smelled it, it smelled of pine and soup. Then I remember what my dad told me that hunters can make themselves sound like us and can mimic us. I heard another snap and picked my head up from the ground. I saw something that I haven’t seen since I had just barely arrived at the den. I gave a growl and lowered my head and barred my teeth. Then it disappeared and came up somewhere else. It got closer and closer and as it got closer I went rigid with tension. I heard a click to my other side and knew that there was more than one. BAM, I felt something scrap by my side and across my cheek. Then I felt a hot stinging pain in my back and let out a yelp. I crouched and pounced on the first one. BAM he sent another one flying but this one hit his companion in the leg. And I bit his shoulder he gave a cry as my teeth sank in and I gave a pull blood started to splatter across my paws. I turned around to the other one growled and crouched I heard a click and pounced BAM I felt a pain in my hind leg. I grabbed the gun and yanked it free from his hand. The last thing he did before I killed him was gasp as I ripped his throat out. I looked around and I saw dots my vision was blacking out and then I saw Layla and Adam running together toward me yelling my name. The weird thing was that I think Adam reminded me of Jonah. My vision went blurry and then completely black as the ground got closer to me, then all a flash of red as my head hit the ground.
Layla’s POV

“How do you know Luna?” She asked as she and the teenage boy watched over Luna while her dad was getting some sleep. “Let’s just say that I have known her since she was little but she never knew of me,” He said. She gave him a weird look “Well that doesn’t sound creepy or stalker like at all.” He looked at her smiled then winked. She backed up a couple steps he laughed then she looked down with embarrassment at not noticing that it was a joke. She started to laugh then stopped Luna had said a name but she didn’t catch it. She said it again but it was lost to the air the boy and I had to lean closer to her to see what she said. As we leaned in closer she gasped and convulsed once again while a look of pure agony came across her face, and her back leaving the bed as she came up and went back down. I looked at her with regret while if I hadn’t left to see what that new scent was maybe she wouldn’t be in this situation. “Hey It wasn’t your fault, so don’t think it,” Adam said. I looked at him with shock and he just looked at me passively and shrugged his shoulders.
I wonder how he knew what I was thinking, but I would have to leave that and think about it later. I do not have time to worry about this now she needs me more than ever. “By the way my name is Layla” I said while holding my hand out. He smiled took it and said “Adam” I gasped feigning shock “So you are the mysterious Adam, that Luna told me about meeting.” He laughed with a look of curiosity in his eyes “The very one,” I started to laugh but I noticed the bowl needed more water. I grabbed the bowl, and went to go get some more.
Luna’s POV

I don’t remember much of what happened all I remember is a flash of silver then it going black. I kept going in and out of sleep not sure of my surroundings and who was in it and or what was in it. I didn’t really care actually all that I registered in my head was the dreams and the beauty of it. I was running just plain running not running for stress or because I was running away from what I don’t like or danger either way I was running and it felt really good the wind in my hair the smells of the forest as I zoomed through it, the feel of the earth under my feet as I kicked up dirt and dug my claws in. It was the best feeling of my life I didn’t know where I was going I just knew I had to get there fast before I lost it, not knowing what it was. Following my instincts I ran until my feet hurt and I couldn’t run no more. I stopped for a bit catching my breath loving the feel of the forest scent running against my tongue as I tasted it. As soon I caught my breath I started at a trot and worked my way up from there to where I was running at a straight sprint.as if time was running out and I was left to the final second for me to do something for me to save my life and finally get the weight off my shoulders. I ended up stopping out of nowhere not sure what to do, working on my instincts and pure instincts I walked until I finally stopped dead in my tracks. Looking around to see if anything will pop up that I may need to see or if there was any entrance of any kind that I was looking for. I had no idea what I was supposed to be looking for no clue as to what I was to heading to or to what extent I need to be searching for. I just knew I had to get there before someone or something not knowing what or who I had to beat to whatever I had to be going to. I sped up and ran at full speed until I couldn’t breathe. Then all of a sudden I didn’t feel anything my instincts just disappeared I didn’t know what to do I just stood there. Then I got the sudden urge to howl I brought my snout to the sky and sang to the glory of the moon. Suddenly the earth shook and it felt like I might collapse into the core of it. It stopped out of know where and the rock I had been facing just a while ago became a giant cave. I sniffed at it then cautiously walked in on full alert, inside the cave was quiet except for the scrap of my claws against the rock floor and the drip of water from the stalactites above me. I continued to walk when the floor turned to dirt and a sudden black looking floor surrounding another patch of dirt. In the middle of that patch was something like a pole, but I could not see clearly because on that pole came a very bright and large ball of light blocking my vision. Not able to see clearly at what it was I approached cautiously. I stepped up to the black looking floor noticing it was water I stepped up to it feeling the water it was warm which was strange. I thought I could leap across it so I stepped up couple ways back and started to run. I gave as much of a bound as I could and barely made it. With just my hind paws in the water I stepped up to the light and that’s when I saw it there was something laying around it. It moved a bit and I saw a head it was big as it moved and stretched I saw how big it really was. What I presumed to be wrapped was actually just part of its neck. It picked up its head and yawned I crouched some and let out a growl from deep inside my throat. It looked at me and I could see more clearly it was a dragon! An actual dragon I never thought they existed but apparently they did. The dragon looked at me and smiled a kind smile and said “Do not be afraid little one, for I will not harm you but am here to relay a message.” I got up slowly letting out one last growl before straightening I looked up to him “and what might that be if I may ask,” I approached cautiously. Sitting in front of the so far giant beast I waited for it to answer and before it did answer I remembered that I didn’t ask its name. “Oh, yes and before I forget my manners my name is Luna.” I said with as friendly of a smile as I could manage with being near such a dangerous companion. “My name is Azilor, and for your information I am a female.” I gasped how could she know what I was thinking? “I am a 8,000 year old dragon, you learn things when you have time on your hands.” Azilor chuckled and looked at me. “What is it that you had to tell me?”
