Chapter 1 - Introduction

Obesity has been a problem for many people for a long time due to a variety of factors, including a sedentary lifestyle, a lack of exercise, and overeating. As a result, many obese individuals are eager to lose weight, as failure to do so will undoubtedly result in a slew of negative side effects. The health factor is one of the unfavorable side effects that many people experience. Due to the fact that obesity is strongly associated with lifestyle diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and stroke.

Since I was in elementary school, I've displayed signs of being overweight, owing to my insatiable appetite. Consuming a single portion has always been deemed insufficient, and there is an innate desire to increase portions or intervals between meals. That is why my childhood friends referred to me as "fat” or “fatty.” I don't consider it painful because I believe it is my friends' affectionate way of reaching out to me. And as I grew older, the nickname was affixed to me, and I enjoy being called that. I had no desire to change anything, as I feel that everything is fine with me.

However, when I reached an unhealthful weight of 94 kg, the situation began to change. This was in 2013, following my return from a month-long trip to the United States. At the time, my weight skyrocketed as a result of the high-fat diet and the constant frequency of eating. I did change my diet for 2 months and was able to lose weight to 83 kg, but the weight loss lasted only two months before it bounced back. In 2015, I returned to the United States for a second time, and my weight soared back to 94 kg. And this time, the weight stayed on for four years before I lost it again to 83 kg, but only to gain it back to 89 kg by mid-2021.

At this point, I believe that there must be a shift in the way I live my life. Additionally, the world is currently afflicted by a pandemic, and so many people have fallen ill, and not a few, as far as I am aware, have died as a result of the covid-19 virus. According to the information I read, many people died from COVID-19 as a result of a congenital disease, with obesity being one of the causes.

Personally, I've felt some of the consequences of my unhealthy weight. I am easily fatigued, constantly sleepy during the day, frequently dizzy, and have an uncontrollable urge to eat. I recognized that if I did not make lifestyle changes, the disease would strike sooner or later. This is, of course, a very real problem, and it's easy to see around us, given how many people share the same experience. Particularly now that I and my wife have a daughter, Emma, and we need to live long enough to raise her.

This served as a "wake-up call" for me, and this time I had the unwavering support of my wife, Deanna Beryl Majilang, who shares my commitment to a healthy lifestyle. As a result, on June 5, 2021, we began a six-month healthy lifestyle challenge. Praise God for the blessings He has bestowed upon me; my weight has decreased from 94 kg to 71 kg.

There are so many people who want to know the secret to my weight loss, and I'm always happy to share my lifestyle with them, while also praying that more and more people adopt a healthy lifestyle. Then there are two of my friends who suggested that I write a book about my weight loss journey, namely Dr. John Shimray and Ganda Sihotang. At first, I didn't think that far, but after some reflection and prayer, I decided to write this e-book, not only to motivate people to lose weight in a healthy manner but also to serve as a reminder to myself to stay healthy. Maintain a healthy
