The Short Second Life of Bree Caterpillar
Peeking out from the nearly transparent cocoon, Bree blinked in the muted light of dawn. She saw things differently now, colors were more vivid and appealing. A yellow flower caught her attention, and she knew food was to be found there amongst the sweet petals.
All she had to do was extract herself from her chamber, crawl out onto the limb of the plant, and wait for her wings to dry enough to carry her where she wanted to go. Half way out, her long slender legs just grasping the limb, something hard snapped around her and all went black.
Sneezing Espionage
All I had to do was walk into the General’s office, take the file off his desk and walk back outside to where my contact waited in the Cadillac. Simple, except for the guard station and they were frisking everyone coming and going.
Getting in was easy. I had clearance. The general was distracted elsewhere and his secretary was away from her desk. I walked in, took the papers out of the manila folder, and as I walked out I snatched the tissue box. I shoved the papers under the tissue, and out I went with a sudden sneeze attack.
Dumpster Haven
Dashing across the parking lot, our hearts in our throats, Lofi and I spotted a pair of rust colored dumpsters at the other end. Safety from the pursuing beasts was only moments away. I reached the dumpster first, scrabbled up, and then grabbed Lofi’s arms to haul her up. Her shoe flew off as the first dog leaped, snapping at her bare leg and missing.
Shaking with fear, we huddled on top of the hot metal dumpster lid watching the red-eyed monsters leap and bark furiously at us. Eventually, they grew bored and wandered away. Eventually, so did we.
