The night seemed dark and gloomy as the moon began to show itself through blackened sky. Drake Carrington had just arrived home from work, when he had received a call from a long lost relative, by the name of Mary Crane. He was surprised to hear that he had an aunt he never knew of, and that she, was his dad’s sister. He had no idea he had an aunt on his father’s side, and thought it was a prank call at first, but when he noticed the urgent manner in her voice, he he became quite curious on what she had to say, and realized that this may not be a prank call after all.
He decided to listen to the woman as she explained to him that he must visit her in Salem very soon, and that there was a matter that she needed to discuss with him that could not be explained by phone.
"Please, I must talk to you. It is rather urgent. I will even send an airline ticket for you if you need me to."
'Well I do have a busy schedule coming up. I’m not sure of when I would be able to make it over. Why can you not tell me over the phone now?”
“No. I must talk to you in person. Please try, it would mean the world to me.”
“Okay, I’ll try, but you don’t need to worry about the ticket. I can pay my own way.”
No, I insist. I will send you a ticket. Expect to receive it by the end of the week.”
“Okay, okay. Here is my address to send the ticket to. 1200 Beverly Street, California, suite 612, and let me write down your address.”
“Don’t worry about that now, I will send it to you along with the ticket.”
Once the conversation was over, he heard a click on the other side of the line, and then a beep. He then hung up, and went over to his couch to rest his feet after a hard days work.
As Drake lied lazily onto his couch he began to wonder why father had never mentioned that he had a sister, and became rather curious. He was even more curious as to how she got his number, and why he would be the first person she contacted; since he never met her before.
A week later when Drake went to his mailbox he saw an envelope with his name on it. Drake picked it up, locked the mailbox, and headed up to his unit on the tenth floor. Once in his apartment he quickly hung up his coat, removed his shoes and walked over to the living room to sit on his lazy-boy, and quickly opened the envelope. Inside was a plane ticket along with Mary’s address. 999 Salem, Masssachusettes. He realized that it was a one way ticket, so he would have to buy his ticket on the way back. He also noticed that the ticket was for this weekend of November 19, 2011. It was perfect timing too, since he was able to talk to his boss about an early vacation. He would be away from work for two weeks, so it would give him enough time to visit Mary, get to know her, and to discover what the urgent matter was, and what would be his involvement in it.
Two nights before his departure, he made sure his dog and cat Ruffy and Tomcat were cared for while he was away by calling a reputable pet sitting service called Comfortable Pets. By Saturday
