Christmas Wish

Prologue;

This tale is about two lovable male cats. Their names are Chewy and Tiger. Chewy has beautiful long black fur with a bit of brown highlights. He's a strong and loving feline who is always laid back and loves to snuggle. He's quite handsome too, but doesn't seem to know it. Tiger, however -- knows he is, with his short grey fur, black patches and stripes and white around his mouth. If you looked at him you would think he was Santa Kitty with his white beard. He would even strut in the company of the females. He's also quite determined in getting what he wants through his persistent chatter and playful charm.

The Escape

Chewy and Tiger lived with one human ever since they were kittens; until both ran away from her. She was always mean to them, and showed them no affection. Sometimes they would not, receive any food and water for many days at a time, so they would have to search for their own food once they were old enough to hunt, and they didn't have a problem with that though, since the basement of the house, was infested by rats.

One day when their owner was opening the screen door at the front of the house, they quickly darted out. The old woman tried to run after them to take them back into the house when they turned and noticed that she had stopped. They saw that she was trying to catch her breath, and realized that she can never catch up to them now. Chewy and Tiger continued to run far into the woods, so that they would not be found. They soon made a temporary home large enough for two in an old willow tree. Both boys slept on twigs and hunted for their food. Something, they did not expect at all. The twigs made them itch and the hunt for food were difficult, since the small animals in the woods were faster, and outran them. One night they sat in front of the willow tree looking up at the stars, until they saw a star shining brightly in the night sky and together made a wish; the same wish.

Storm

A few weeks later Chewy and Tiger woke up more energized than ever before. Suddenly, they heard the scuttling of tiny feet just outside their cave entrance and voices loud enough to wake all the animals that lived in the woods. The boys quickly ran outside and saw rabbits, squirrels, raccoon and a family of deer scattering about, as if they were running for their lives. A doe turned to them, and yelled out, as she ran.

"Find a safe place to hide. Quick! A storm is coming!"

The moment the deer spoke Chewy and Tiger were almost blown off their paws by a strong wind. Quickly, they ran back inside their cave worried that the wind would sweep them off into the pale blue sky, and they would be lost to each other for good. They huddled together, hoping that the tree was strong enough to keep its roots. Unfortunately though, they soon found themselves meowing in fear, as the tree ripped its roots off the ground, spinning towards the sky with them in it. Chewy and Tiger held on to one another tight, hoping that they would not be separated during this terrifying ordeal. The boys awoke and found themselves lying on a bed of snow. They realized that they were still alive. When they stood, they felt a little dizzy and just stood for a moment; at least until, they were sturdy on their feet. The snow all around them rested in layers upon the ground that went for miles into the woods, and the clearing.

"We're alive. We're alive," yelled Tiger, in excitement, just before he asked, “Where are we?"

"I wish I knew," replied Chewy, a little dazed and confused.

The boys began searching the area, and saw the tree they were living in lying twenty feet from where they were standing. Chewy and Tiger soon discovered that they were not in the same woods they had remembered. The woods seemed the same, except for the snow that was now added to the scenery. Chewy realized that the sun was going down and decided that they needed to find shelter for the night. They continued searching through the woods until they came to an old shack. They entered cautiously looking for any sign of life. Chewy realized that the shack had been abandoned. All the furniture was broken and lying on wooden ground. Even the air seemed musty.

"It doesn't seem like anyone had lived here, for a long time," commented Tiger.

"Well at least we have shelter until we figure out what to do next, but we'll worry about that tomorrow morning. In the meantime let's go hunt for food. I'm famished," said Gats, after he investigated the shack.

Tiger suddenly realized he was hungry too, and agreed. Chewy and Tiger both went outside to search the surrounding area for food, and realized that they didn't need to go far. They heard some scuttling under some dead leaves nearby. Tiger pounced, then lifted the leaves to look under and was happy to see his catch of the day. There were two scrawny rats lying stunned from the force of the attack. Chewy glanced at the mice and thought they were too scrawny to satisfy their hunger, but still commented.

"Well they would have to do for tonight, I guess."

The boys devoured their food within seconds. They went back into the shack and found some old blanket lying on the floor. The boys both kneaded the blanket -- before they snuggled up close and fell fast asleep. Elf The next morning Tiger was awaken by the sun shining brightly through the window and stretched while softly purring. He glanced over at Chewy and saw that he was still curled up and snoring. Tiger quietly walked over to the door and went outside to search for food. While Tiger searched the area he ran into a white feline dressed in green with a hat to match.

"Hello my name is Kit. Your name is Tiger, right?" She paused to look around, and then asked, "Where is Chewy?"

Tiger was too busy contemplating as he glanced at the cat dressed unusually before him. He soon realized that she was talking to him.

"Sorry, did you say something," he asked.

The white cat appeared annoyed and repeated her question. "Yes, I said, hello, my name is Kit. Your name is Tiger, right? Then I asked where is Chewy?"

"Okay, okay, relax. How do you know our names anyways?"

"I have my ways of knowing these things," answered Kit, as she glanced around the area for Chewy before she asked, "Well, where is he," answered Kit,

"He's still sleeping," replied Tiger, now annoyed by her attitude.

"Well go wake him. I have a lot of work that I need to get back to," she said frowning.

Tiger was about to go inside to wake his brother, when he saw Chewy exiting the shack. When Chewy joined them he noticed the other cat before him, and turned to Tiger.

"Who is she? Where did she come from?"

"Chewy, this here is Kit, and Kit, this is Chewy," answered Tiger, in a blunt manner.

"Hi," said Chewy.

"Hi." replied Kit, before she continued, "Now come on, we need to get going, and I do not have time to waste. We should arrive within a half hour, if we hurry.

"Come on. We need to get going. We should arrive, within a half hour, if we hurry."

"Where are we going," asked Chewy, as both boys tried to keep up with Kit.

"We are going to Santa Clause’s cottage," answered Kit.

"Really, we are going to see Santa? Did you hear that, Chewy? We are going to see Santa, Alright! Did you hear that Chewy? We are going to see Santa," exclaimed Tiger, as he pounced around in excitement.

"Yes, I heard." Chewy then turned to Kit, "You are kidding us, right," asked Chewy, not believing what he was hearing.

"Do I look like I'm kidding? Santa sent for you boys early this morning," answered Kit, now frowning.

"Santa, here we come," exclaimed Tiger, now calm as he tried to keep is excitement down a little.

Chewy smiled to himself at the thought of meeting Santa, even though he did not fully believe in Santa Claus and that that a round jolly man with a red suit with a bag of toys really existed. He didn't want to disappoint his brother though -- seeing how excited Tiger was. It wasn't long before they were treading through snow, that would have been over their heads. There was not even a trail that they could follow, but luckily, the snow was a bit tough, so they did not sink too much with every step. Chewy and Tiger noticed a cottage not too far before them, and saw that it was decorated with lots of colorful Christmas lights. The boys admired the scenery, as they continued toward it.

The Cottage

:

Once they were standing at the front of the cottage, Kit knocked on the door, and then turned to the boys to speak, before she went on her way without saying, Goodbye.

Chewy and Tiger was about to say, Bye, but Kit was already gone. She was no where in sight. They then turned to see a woman in her 50’s -- with a dress that appeared, as if it was from the pioneer era.

"Come in, come in. Just don't stand there. Hello, boys, I have been expecting you," she exclaimed, with joy. She gestured them toward the kitchen, "Have a seat at the table boys while I fix up some goodies."

Chewy and Tiger both sat, and watched in excitement at all the wonderful food that lay out before them. Laid out onto the table, was grilled tuna from a can, baked chicken pieces, and lots of sweet goodies such as cakes, cookies, muffins and pies. The boys' mouths began to water, and they couldn't wait to get their paws on all that delicious food. The woman smiled warmly, and urged them on.

"Go on boys, eat up. Santa is at the workshop now, but he will return, in a few hours."

Chewy and Tiger devoured all that they could eat in one sitting, and then went over to the fireplace to keep warm. While they did so, Mrs. Claus tidied up in the kitchen. Moments later she joined them, and told them stories of the old days before Santa became the man he is today. As they listened, with sparkles in their eyes they both began to feel so tired that they both curled up and fell fast asleep. It was 9 pm at night when Chewy had awoken, and saw Santa enter the cottage. Tiger had woken soon after and was so excited to see that Santa was back.

"Ho, Ho, Ho," laughed Santa as he saw Chewy and Tiger running towards him. "Hello boys, I hope you both have been good this year. Ho, Ho, Ho."

"We have Santa; we've been really good," as they purred in contentment.

They both joined Santa at the table for a snack while Santa had his dinner. While Tiger talked and laughed Chewy just couldn't take his eyes off of Santa. He just couldn't believe that this really could be the man everyone had made a fuss about. Are we really in Santa's cabin? No, it couldn't be he thought, after all where is he's not wearing a red suit. After Santa had done eating, and the boys headed over to the fireplace Mrs. Clause cleaned up the dishes, and it wasn't long before she them. Tiger snuggled up to Santa and his wife while Chewy stayed on the floor by the fireplace, where he curled up in warmth. Santa then told them stories of how he became Santa, and how he met Mrs. Claus. It wasn't long before Chewy and Tiger fell fast asleep. Mr, and Mrs. Claus, quietly went off to bed, leaving the boys sleeping. Early next morning Chewy and Tiger woke up to the smell of pancakes. Chewy and Tiger first groomed themselves -- then each other, before they walked over to the kitchen table. Santa was already sitting at the table waiting for them.

"Ho, Ho, Ho. Good morning boys. I hope you had a restful night." Still a little groggy they both answered, "We did."

Once breakfast was ready, Santa called the boys to sit on his lap and they both jumped up. Chewy sat on Santa's left knee and Tiger on the right. "I bet I know what you boys would like for Christmas." The boys just looked at Santa with sparkles in their eyes. Santa looked down seeing the eagerness in both boys, and began to speak.

"You want a new home for Christmas. Isn't that right?" Chewy answered curiously, "How did you know? Do you read minds too?"
"No boys,” replied Santa, with another hearty laugh, and he paused for a moment before he added. “I send my elves to visit the homes of all the children. They then return with the letters of all the boys and girls with a list of all their wishes,” replied Santa, after he gave a big hearty laugh.

“But, we can’t write letters, so how do you know what we want,” asked Tiger, curiously.

“Well, boys, I have a special globe that is filled with magic. It shows all the animals all over the world, and that is how I know that your wish is to have a home for Christmas.”

“Wow, can we see it, please,” asked Tiger, excited by the thought of a magical globe.
“Sure, come on.”

Santa then led them to a small office to the back of the cabin, where he then unlocked a cupboard, and picked up a large globe with caution. He then rested it onto his desk, and they all gazed into it for a moment. Soon, they saw a lost little deer wondering the forest, in search of his mother after a horrible storm. Then the image on the globe showed the mother deer at the other end of the forest. She was weeping, because she felt that she had lost her son for good.

“We have seen that deer before. She is the one who warned us of the storm that we go caught in,” exclaimed Tiger.

“Yes, I remember her,” added Chewy.

“Are you going to reunite them, Santa,” asked Tiger.

“Yes, I am, and it is going to be in the early morning of Christmas. Mother and son would soon be together again,” replied Santa with a joyful smile.

Santa then returned the globe into the cupboard, and guided the boys back to the living room, where they continued their conversation.

“Can I ask, Santa? How are you going to reunite them,” asked Chewy, still not believing what he was hearing and what he saw in the globe.

“I have my own little magic my dear boy,” replied Santa, with a wink.

“Well it doesn’t matter how he does it, Chewy. I think, it only matters that the two is reunited, and they have a happy ending. I like happy endings.

“You are right, Tiger,” said Chewy, before he turned toward Santa, and added, “I’m sorry for asking too many questions.”

“Not to worry, dear boy. I understand why you need to ask all those questions. Anyone who do not believe in miracles or anything else, usually ask many questions. It is perfectly understandable.” Santa then added, “Now, if you have anymore questions, I would be happy to answer them,” replied Santa, with a warm and joyful smile.

“I think, that’s all the questions I have for now, Santa,” replied Chewy.

“Well, I have more questions,” exclaimed Tiger, as he jumped up onto Santa.

Santa smiled at Tiger’s eagerness -- while Chewy, also jumped onto Santa lap, Once the boys were sitting comfortably on his lap, once again, Santa laughed, amused by Tiger’s excitement, and thought with a smile, ‘These boys would be adopted in no time. They are both such sweet wonderful boys,” before he spoke again.

“Ask away.”

"How do you read all those letters on time to deliver their wishes? You must get thousands upon thousands of letters, right,” asked Tiger, curiously.

"I have a scanner in the warehouse that just scans all the main wishes on each letter and who had wished them along with the addresses, so we know where to deliver the presents. It makes things go a lot quicker. If you like, I will give you a tour of the warehouse, before you return home."

Sadly Chewy and Tiger looked up at Santa and reminded him that they don't have a home yet. Santa then smiled at them.

"Don't worry boys, by tomorrow afternoon you'll have one," Santa paused for a moment seeing how sad the boys truly were, and quickly cheered them up by adding, "Well boys, if you want a tour of the warehouse, we better get going. I have lots of work to do still."

Chewy and Tiger appeared excited once again, and put their boots, and coats on that Mrs. Claus had made for them before they left on Santa sleigh. When they arrived at the warehouse, Santa gave them a guided tour. First they went to where all the toys were made, then to the office to the scanner room. There were other cats with ears that looked like elf ears -- just like Kit.

They boys noticed that all the elves wore the same style clothing with same colors, green and white. Santa then showed the boys how the scanner works, and had the boys try it out for themselves. Tiger tried it out the scanner first before Chewy had a chance.
Once they both had a go at it, they were amazed by the results. Soon after, Santa led them back to the warehouse to help the elves build toys for the rest of the afternoon.

The boys noticed Kit at the back of the warehouse and waved. She then smiled and started toward them. When they were face to face with her, she had apologized for being impatient yesterday and rude.

"It’s alright. We understand, and we forgive you,” replied Chewy with a warm smile.

"Thank you, boys,” said Kit as she then headed back toward her post, and continued working.

By the end of the day the boys were exhausted from all the hard work, so when the boys arrived back at the cottage, they had dinner and soon fell fast asleep.

The Wish

:

The next morning Chewy and Tiger had awakened, to discover that they were lying in soft beds, curled up with one another. They heard many voices and looked around. The boys realized that they were in a large cage with food, water and their litter boxes nearby. Moments later, Chewy and Tiger saw a couple peering through the cage and smiling at them. Tiger quickly rushed over and began purring. When Chewy saw how nice the couple was as they picked up Tiger, and took turns as they nestled him in their arms, Chewy strolled over – in hope to receive the attention that Tiger was getting. Within an hour they were in the back seat of the couple's car. Chewy and Tiger were purring and meowing softly feeling quite content. It wasn't long before the car stopped and the boys looked out the window.

They saw a beautiful little house with white shingles, and red brick. The next thing they knew, they were inside, and it appeared larger than the outside. The boys were even more excited, because it meant more space to run around in. Chewy then realized that they didn't know the names of the couple until they heard the couple talking to one another. Their names were Harrison, and Cynthia. Chewy and Tiger investigated the house some more, and then walked over to the living room where they found two kitty beds. Chewy walked over to one of the round beds and Tiger ran over to the other. The boys also noticed a little red bow tied around the beds. Within moments when the couple saw that the boys found their beds -- they untied the bows for Chewy and Tiger. As Chewy and Tiger both curled up in their beds, they discovered how soft and warm they were; it was heavenly.

Then the boys decided to get up and walk to the kitchen where they saw two bowls. One was filled with water and the other, with kibbles. Once Chewy and Tiger had satisfied their thirst and hunger they strolled up to the couple, and brushed up against them as they purred. The nice couple then played and snuggled with the boys throughout the day until it was night and the couple went off to bed.

While the boys slept soundly in the living room, they heard a sound, and opened their eyes and to their surprise, saw Santa sneaking about, adding presents under the Christmas tree. The boys watched quietly as Santa added some presents under the tree and climbed up the chimney. The boys went back to sleep and awoke the next day which was Christmas day. When Chewy and Tiger each received a stocking full of toys, along with edible goodies their faces lit up like never before. There were even presents from Santa for each of the boys. When their new parents opened the presents for them, the boys could not wait to try the collars on, that laid inside the boxes. The collars had red rhinestones on them with their names engraved in a green metal charm. Chewy and Tiger glanced over at each other, while their new parents put the collars on for them. It was then; the boys decided that, they are going to be very happy here in their new home – as they purred contently, while snuggling up to their new, mommy and daddy.

"Santa is real after all,” thought Chewy, as he smiled to himself, with a gleam in his eyes.

Epilogue

Tiger soon became the vet mascot at the animal hospital where Cynthia works at, and Chewy worked p/t with Harrison, as they visited a Senior Residence -- to brighten up the faces of all the seniors that lived there, and all lived, happily ever after.
