Chapter 1

“BEEP BEEP BEEP” I quickly reached over to stop my alarm from blaring in my face. Ugh 5:30 in the morning I thought to myself. This, for most people, was a very important day: my first day of high school. For me though, it wasn’t that big of a deal. I had never been the type of girl to be in the “it crowd” and I usually stayed to myself. I also was very shy, so high school would just mean more people to think I am weird. Great.

I quickly got out of my bed into the cold, brisk air. I live in Echo Lake, Washington so the climate here is always cold, cloudy, and wet. I went over to my closet and got a pair of jeans, a cropped jacket, and my converse. Once I was done getting dressed I brushed my natural blonde, straight hair and let it sit across my shoulders. Hmm now for makeup I thought. I grabbed my makeup back and decided to go for a smokey-eyed look and clear lip-gloss. Right as I am about to go out of my room my brother runs through the hall knocking me down.

“Ouch!” I say.

“Oops sorry sis, I didn’t see you there.” My brother Kyle said.

“Its fine, just help me up please?”

As he helped me up he asked “Do you need a ride to school? Don’t wanna be late on your first day.”
As much as I want to say no, because he is such a careless driver, I end up saying yes just so I can get to school early. I quickly grabbed my backpack and coat and headed out the door to the car.

Chapter 2

As we finally approached my new school my brother dropped me off and was gone just like that. Here we go… I think to myself. I walked through the main doors and started walking to my first class. As I was about to enter the room I realized I was on the wrong side of the school.

“Crap!” I say to myself. To make things worse the bell went off, which meant I’m late.

Could things get any worse?

As I spun around to walk to my actual room I walked right into a guy and being the klutz I am, I fell down.

“Oh, I’m sorry” he said in such a deep, mysterious voice.
I couldn’t help but stare back at him.

He was tall with broad shoulders and short, brown, spikey hair. He was wearing a tank top and saggy blue jeans. To make this guy even more over the top he had both his ears pierced and a tattoo on each shoulder.

“O-oh its fine”

Ugh, I sound like such an idiot.

As he helped me up he asks “So, you gotta name?”
Of course I “gotta” name who does this guy think he is?

“Annabella” I say tucking a strand of hair behind my ear.

“Oh..that’s great..im Darren..don’t wear my name out though.” He says with a smirk.

Right before I could respond he was already walking down the hall. I rolled my eyes and began to walk to my class.

Chapter 3

The first day went by okay I guess. I mean everyone left me alone so….it was a usual day of school, for me that is. The only thing that kept going through my mind though was the run in with Darren. What made this guy so interesting? I mean he acted like a self-centered, rebel, wanna be and yet I still couldn’t stop thinking about him. Maybe it was his bad boy persona or his insane good looks.
Ugh. I shook my head and got up to take a shower. Right as I was about to get in my dad came in my room.

“Bell? Are you in here?” he asked.

“Um yeah I was just about to shower, what’s wrong?”

“Oh, well your mother and I were going to go to dinner with your brother and were wondering if you wanted to come along?”

“No, I have...a lot of homework to do so just go on without me.” I lied.

“Okay well bye…” I could tell this was an awkward situation for him.

“Bye” I said and I jumped in the shower.

After I was done, I put my wet hair in a messy bun, but on shorts and a tank and went downstairs to make myself some dinner. I decided I would make myself some Mac & Cheese because it’s easy and it’s my favorite food. As soon as it was done I put it in a bowl and went to go watch some T.V.

As I sat down, I quickly glanced outside and spotted someone in our neighbor’s yard.
Hmm I didn’t think anyone lived there…but they probably just moved in. I continued to watch T.V. until I heard a knock on the door. I quickly got up and opened the door.

"Hey you left your…oh… haven’t I seen you before?”

It was Darren. DARREN is my new neighbor! I couldn’t believe it! Stop standing there you idiot say something!

“Oh…yeah we…well…I ran into you during school today” I said quickly.

“Oh right…so how about I come in and we can hang out?” He said with a smirk.

Don’t do it Annabella…. You barely know him!

“Sure come on in” I said as I motioned him into my house.

You’re such an idiot!

After I closed the door, I hung up Darren’s coat, which he threw on the ground, and went over to where he was standing.
Oh my gosh…he’s wearing his tank top again…
I tried not to stare at him, but I just couldn’t. Something about him just drew me in and I couldn’t understand it.

“So do you want to go upstairs in my room and talk?” I said quietly.

“Yeah…sure that would be cool.”

When we reached the top of the stairs I led him into my room and we began to talk.

“So…how was your first day of school Darren?”

“Eh… it was better then last year.”

“Oh that’s cool you’re a sophomore?”

He stared at me for a minute and then burst out laughing.

Did I say something funny?

“No Annabella, I’m a senior this year.”

My heart stopped. I couldn’t believe this. He was a senior!!!

“Oh” I said nervously. “I…” but before I could finish he cut me off.

“Don’t worry Bella…I won’t hurt you I just find you very…attractive and interesting. I want to know more about you.”

I couldn’t help but blush. He noticed and he quickly shot me a cute smirk. I almost died.

“So…” he said as he cleared his throat. “ How about I pick you up at the end of the week at eight and we will go on a real date?”
I couldn’t believe this. Darren, probably one of the cutest guys ever, wanted to go out with me!

“Yeah…sure I’d love to.”

“Cool well I’d better go. See ya later.”

He quickly shot me one of his smirks and headed down the stairs and let himself out. I spun on my bed to turn and watch him walk to his house. As soon as he was in I laid down and screamed into my pillow.

Chapter 4

My first week of school finally was done and tonight was my big date with Darren. I was so nervous! I mean I’m just a little freshman so what will Darren expect? Should I wear my usual clothes? Or should I wear something a senior girl would wear? Ugh I couldn’t decide!!

I got up and though I’d call my friend Cathryn, the only girl I met during my first week. I waited to the sound of the phone for what seemed like forever until I finally heard her talk.

“Hey Annabella! What’s up?”

“Um, nothing much. Can you come over? I need help with something really big.”

“Sure! I’ll be there in twenty minutes okay?”

“Sure that sounds cool. See ya soon.”

“Bye!”

I hung up my phone and waited for Cathryn to arrive. In the meantime I decided I would go outside and take advantage of the only sunny day in Echo Lake. Once I got outside, I laid out on one of our lawn chairs and closed my eyes. After about five minutes I heard a sound coming from behind the fence. It was Darren!
I peeked my head through the fence to get a better look at him. He was lifting weights in his garage and all I could look at was his chest. It was tan, muscular, and so sculpted you would think he was a sculpture.

"Annabella!"

"Ah!" I screamed. It was Cathryn.

"Don't scare me like that!" I said to her in a hushed voice.

"Why are you whispering?"

"Sshh! Just follow me into my house and I'll explain everything while you get me ready."

"Alrighty"

I opened the back door, and to my surprise, found my dad sitting at the dining room table.

"What are you doing here?" I say a little too quick.

"Well I do live here..so I am reading the paper. Why?"

"Oh..no reason..Cathryn and I are going to get ready..for the movies."

Cathryn gives me a strange look and just before she speaks I say

"Well, movie starts soon! Gotta get ready!"

I quickly give my dad a reasurring smile and pull Cathryn up the stairs and shut my door.

"Dude, what was that all about? You brought me over here so we can go to the movies? Is that the big news?"

"No" I said in a hushed tone.

"Okay, have you ever heard of a guy named Darren Roy?"

"Hmm..oh yeah he's a senior! I saw him go down to the principle's office on the first day..can you believe that? I mean someone already got in trouble and school basically just started. However, he is so hot though! Anyone would be lucky to get with him...why do you ask if i know him?"

"Well..the reason that I called you over tonight is so you can help me get ready for a date..with him."

I saw her eyes instantly light up.

"OH MY GOSH YOU'RE GOING ON A DATE WITH DARREN!!!!!!!"

"Sshh!!" I say.

"So let me get this straight..you, a freshman, is about to go out with one of the hottest seniors at school!"

"Yeah..I guess I am.."

"Well what are we doing sitting around! we have to get you GORGEOUS!" She says with a laugh.

"Okay let's go!" i say with a smile.

An hour later Cathryn had my usually straight hair curled to perfection and gave me a smokey-eyed look with sheer lipgloss. As for my wardrobe, she convinved me to wear a black mini-skirt, blue sparkled tube top, and heels. I , however, was reluctant on the heels and I decided to wear my black converse.

"The converse is going to ruin my whole look for you!" she said jokingly.
