PROLOGUE: Ever since the dragons have come, things have changed around our den. Broken families, depression, everything.
--
Sunny, day in the forest. My pack went out for hunting. "Come, Alex. We must train you to hunt." I said, beckoning my little son. "Daddy, is it really time?!" Alex said, enthusiastic and frantic. I nodded, seeing him come this way. "Be careful, Jason. Alex, you too." My wife, Vera said. "Don't worry." I say, smiling. I was going to give her a gentle lick, but Alex was getting in the way. I looked down, seeing him tugging on my left paw. "Daddy, daddy, I need to learn!" Alex pulled with all his might. I laugh, walking outside the den. Alex closely followed behind. He'He'd my boy!
Spotting a deer, I quickly beckon him to my stance, prowling. I hide in the bushes, Alex does too. Copying every move I do, my back lean. My teeth ready to sink in. "Ready?" I whisper to Alex. "I was born ready!" Alex said. I sighed in agreement. "Stay close behind." I say to my son. He nods angrily. He is ready for anything. I do admit.
I step out of the bushes, prowl mode. "Pounce on your prey." I say to Alex. I quickly jump up toward the deer. It looked shocked, its leg wobbly, it tries to run,but the deer can't. Having this food in my grip, I beckon my son. "Alex, help and get this thing dead." He comes over, biting the stomach. "At-a-boy!" I whisper yell. As the deer finally stops fidgeting, I set it down on the cold, dirt, ground. "Did I do it?" Alex said. I looked up, him jumping all about. I nod, "yes, you did!" I say, smiling. "You are my boy." "I'll carry this back to the cave, now follow." I say, turning back around to the cave. My son has improved well.
Seeing the sun shine, I see a shadow. "Is it starting to rain?" Alex asked, scared to look up. My shadow looked like a yin and yang. I drop the deer from my mouth, in fear. I look up, seeing three dragons in the sky. Forming a yin and yang around us. "Get on my back, boy! We have to go NOW!" I yell. Alex pounces on my back. Picking up the deer, I run back to the cave. This was terrible!
Running inside the cave, I set the prey down, what is now food. "Eat up, quickly!" I say, roaring. "Jason, what has gotten into you! Your frightening Lydia and Lilly-Anne!" My wife snaps at me. "Vera, we need to find a cave. Farther from here! Possibly now!" I snap. "Vera, the dragons come back." I mutter this time. Vera got up from sitting. "You don't mean-.."
"Yes."
"Why have they return?"
"What?" Alex asked.
"A long time ago. The dragons were and still are evil. They wanted to destroy habitats. They wanted to kill the Alpha leader, Ray." I continue with a sigh. "He had died many of those years ago. I would tell the dragons, but they cannot cooperate with me telling them." "So, they return. I don't know why they waited so long."Vera looked sad. She stared at Lilly-Anne and Lydia, our other children.
"Don't worry, daddy! I will get them for you!" Alex said, laughing. "Son, there's no time for games here." I said, staring out the cave den.
"This means war." I say to my family. "I need backup." Turning around, I look at my wife. "Hell! You don't mean your old.." Vera said. "Antonio, Ceazer, Jacob, and Mal?!" "Jason, you're crazy!" "I know. I need to reunite with them. Many have died last war. More have come and joined them. Now, revenge."
"Revenge?" Alex asked.
"After invading us, we invaded them. War at Peak Mountain." "Bloody, bad, depressing." I say, staring down at the floor. "I'm sorry, I need to save us, again." I look back out the cave.
"Jason wha-.."
"This means war."
"Jason, not again! No! If only they would listen about what happened to the Alpha..they would have never come back!" Vera said, putting her paws around the cubs. "Even if they listened, they'd come kill me. I said it. They had hatred of us for years. They would kill me, then the rest of the Shimmer Pack." I say, sitting by my wife. "If it must you do," she says. "Do it. I believe in you, Jason." Vera said, hugging me, I feel her tears slide down my back. "It hasn't started yet."
"What?" Alex asked.
"War."
"War?"
"It's dangerous son, you must not go." I say, looking down at his sad face. "B-but..I can handle them!" Alex said, getting angry. "Alex, you must understand this is a serious threat to our pack and you need to protect your family!" I yelled, hoping it knocked some sense into him.
After a while, nobody said anything. We all just stared at each other.
"When will I be like you?" Alex finally asked. "Someday, son, someday." I smile down at him. He smiles back. "Really?!"
"Yep."
Then, I heard a loud shake. "What was.." Vera tried saying. Then it got louder. The rocks from the walls started falling down. "Everybody huddle up, I'll protect you!" I demanded to my family. They huddled, I put my arms around Lilly-Anne, Lydia, Alex, and Vera. "I'm scared." Lydia said. "Me too!" Lilly-Anne added. "It's alright." Vera said. "Damnit, the eagles know we're in here." I whisper under my breath, protecting my family with all of my might. "Dad, I'll be like you someday. I will be there to protect you." Alex said, courageous. "If dad doesn't die." Lydia joked. "Now isn't the time to be joking!" I roar. "Jason, shh." Vera said. "Kids, hush and stay still."
We stay still, we don't talk, I protect. I see a long head and neck coming to the cave.
"The dragons have come in our cave!" I whisper shout. "Nobody move. They didn't give us time to move out."Everybody nodded, afraid. (End of Prologue)
I'm that kind of author who makes one whole story with split chapters in one. I was afraid the chapters might be to long or short, so I labeled them. Please find the word in bold, "Prologue, Chapter 1, etc." So, thank you for understanding.
