Fire spewed all around Cassini. She waved her arm in a line and it went out.
"I'm not in the mood Jasper!" She yelled at a boy running up from behind her. Her fiery red hair whipped around her face as she passed the hot geysers.
"Come on Cass! Your always up for training. What happened?" The tall boy with black hair asked, catching up with her.
"It's just that my dad won't let me go to the surface. He said I'm to young but I'm almost sixteen! What should I do?"
"He's your dad. He just wants the best for you." They walked on a narrow path to Cassini's father's castle. They stopped at the drawbridge leading over the lava.
"Yeah I guess so. I got to go. See you later Jasper." Cassini went into the castle, stormed right into her room, and slammed the door.
You see, Cassini isn't like most teenagers. Some teenagers have red hair, but Cassini's hair is like a burning flame. Cassini has orange eyes, she is a little on the shorter side, and she is skinny. Jasper however, is about a half a foot taller than her. His black hair always falling in his eyes. Jasper's eyes are a dark violet color, with a tint of blue in them. He wasn't skinny but he wasn't fat either, and he was very muscular. The thing that made them different from other teenagers, was that they lived in Hell.
Cassini laid on her bed, petting her Hellhound, Leo.
"How can he be like this. I mean seriously my birthday is in exactly a week!" Cassini was outraged. Her brother, Shard, walked into the room.
"Your mad about dad aren't you?" He asked. Shard was 21, and he has been to the surface many times.
"No duh I'm mad. What age were you when he let you go?"
"That doesn't matter right now. It's time to eat." At the mention of food Leo jumped off the bed.
"Fine. I'll be right down. Now get out of my room!" She yelled at him, shoving him out and walking out behind him. She walked down the stairs and to the dining room. There was about ten people sitting at the table waiting to eat. Most of them were party planners. Cassiana sat down and dinner was served. She ate quickly avoiding everyone's eyes. When she was done she got up and walked to the dragon stables. She stopped at one of the stalls and inside it there was a black dragon, its eyes gleaming gold.
"Hey Griffin!" The dragon snorted and she picked up a fish from a bucket by her feet. She threw it towards him, he snatched it out of the air, and he ate it.
"Good boy! Are you ready to go for a flight?" She asked it, and it nodded. Cassiana saddled him up and opened the gate. The dragon walked out of the stables and Cassiana got on his back. He launched off the ground and they were flying through the air.
Cassini flew over the demons walking around. She flew past the steaming volcanoes lava streaming out of them. Hell isn't what most people think. There is a pit of despair and endless torture yeah, but most people don't end up there. Only the ones who truly are terrible. Cassini flew back to the stables and led Griffin into his stall. She walked out, locked the stall door, an threw another fish into the air. He ate it as fast as he ate the first one. SW walked out of the stables and walked back to the castle. She went to her room and texted Jasper on her Hell phone. The text said, "Can you come over soon? In need of birthday ideas." Within a few minutes he texted her back, "Sure. Be right there." Ten minutes passed and there was a knock on her door.
"Who is it?" She shouted, getting up.
"A burglar! Open the door!" A familiar voice said. Cassini laughed and opened the door. Jasper was standing there.
"Come on in!" Cassini walked to her bed and Jasper closed the door.
"I'm having trouble deciding which to have. A black fire party? Or a regular fire party?" She asked him.
"I think you should have the black fire one." They drew up sketches of the party plans. Cassini got up and walked downstairs, Jasper following. She showed the plans to one of the party landers and they got to work in the grand ballroom. Jasper grabbed her arm and pulled her back to her room.
"Now, no peeking before the party!" He joked while looking at a text he got on his Hell phone. "I got to go Cass. More work to do." He said. Walking out o the room.
"Bye!" Cassini yelled down the stairs. She went over to her closet and dug through the pile of clothes on the bottom of it. She took a box out and opened it. Inside was a dress her mother wore on her 16th birthday. She carefully took it out and layer it on her bed. It was a long black dress that would go about to her ankles, with spaghetti strap sleeves and lace on it from the waist down.
"It's beautiful!" She whispered to herself. She carefully put the dress back in the box and put the box back in her closet. Cassini laid down on her bed, and fell asleep.
A few days later, Cassini was with her dress fitter, getting ready for her party.
"I can't wait to see what the ballroom looks like!" Cassini yelped with excitement. "I have no clue what I'm going to get!" Cassini walked over to the full-body mirror and twirled in her dress, smiling happily.
"You look lovely." A voice said, and Cassini twirled to see them.
"Anthony! I haven't seen you since I had to get my hair done the last time!"
"Princess, you look elegant. Are you ready for me to do your hair?" Anthony asked, motioning for Cassini to sit down in front of a dresser lined with hair supplies.
"Sure." Cassini agreed. She walked over to the dresser and sat down, Anthony coming over and standing behind her. He did her hair and by the time he was done, her hair was in an elegant messy bun.
"I look...amazing! Thank you so much Anthony!" She got up and hugged him.
"You're very welcome Princessa." Cassini stepped away and he left the room. She sat back down in the chair and looked in the mirror. A girl walked in and did her makeup. The blue, sparkly eye shadow complementing her orange eyes. Her red lipstick brightening her face. A boy in a blue suit and a dark blue masquerade mask on walked in.
"Cassini, time to go." Shard said. Cassini put on her mask and looked at him.
"Am I ready for this Shard?" She asked him.
"You were born ready Cassini." He led her out of her room and down the stairs, arm in arm.
Cassini stood at the bottom of the stairs, everyone clapping and looking at her. After the excitement died down a boy came over to her.
"You...look...amazing!" He said.
"Thanks Jasper," She looked at his red suit and his red mask. "You do too."
"May I have this dance?" He asked, holding out his hand. Cassini took it happily. They danced around, Cassini admiring the decorations.
"Present time! Cassini get over here!" She walked over to the table where the presents were stacked. She opened the presents, getting many things, until one last present was left. She took it off the table and opened it slowly. The tag said, "From Jasper." Inside was two daggers, the hilts like a burning flame. She screeched with joy and threw her arms around Jasper.
"Thank you so much Jasper! I love it!"
"I knew you would," He said. "They complement your eyes." He laughed. Shard came up to them.
"Dad has one more present, but you can't open it, so I'm just going to tell you..." Cassini stared up at him, confused and excited. "Well, dad is allowing you to go to the surface." Cassini screamed loudly and hugged Shard.
"Under some circumstances. You take the daggers that Jasper gave you, learn to use them, and Jasper comes with you." Shard said. "Or at least that's what dad said."
"Deal! But what about Jasper's parents?" Cassini said, looking at Jasper who is grinning.
"It's fine with my parents." He said. Cassini squealed with delight.
"This is going to be the best trip ever!" She squealed again.
Cassini sat in her room, going through her list on what to bring, the stuff strewn all over the floor.
"Boots? Check. Training outfit? Check. Clothes? Check. Daggers? Check. Human studies book. Check. Other stuff that I don't necessarily need but am packing? Check. Guess all I need to do now is pack it." She packed everything up in a bunch of bags and headed down stairs, putting them on the floor near the castle's doors. She had to make several trips as servants put the bags in a black carriage pulled by black horses with wings. After she was done bringing them down, Shard came and put other bags in the back of the carriage.
"Just some weapons. Nothing major." He said. Leo ran to the carriage and jumped in, sitting where Cassini was supposed to sit. She smiled at the Hellhound and hugged Shard.
"It's going to be strangely quiet around here without you Cassini." He said. Cassini smiled and walked to the carriage, pushing Leo over. She waved to Shard as the carriage set off towards the village.
When the carriage reached the village, Jasper was waiting outside. The carriage stopped and Jasper put his stuff in. He got in, sitting next to Leo. He nodded at her and she nodded back. They set off. Minutes later, Cassini marveled at the buildings outside.
"That's the Capitol building Cass. We're in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania." Jasper said. Cassini just nodded.
"Where do you want to go Cass?" Jasper asked, turning his head towards her. Cassini tried to remember places she learned in her Human Studies class.
"Umm...New York?" It was more of a question than an answer.
"Okay." Jasper nodded. He told the carriage driver and Cassini stared out the window. She noticed the clothes that the people wore. Their clothes and Cassini's were a lot different. They didn't even look at the carriage rolling by. Glamor, Cassini thought. The carriage lurched to the left and Cassini fell onto Jasper. He caught her easily.
"Thanks. They should really put seat belts it these." She scooted back to where she was sitting and Jasper smiled at her.
"What?" Cassini asked him.
"Nothing. It's just that...never mind." Cassini looked back out the window. The scenery changed. The buildings were taller and there was more people along the streets.
"Welcome to New York!" Jasper said, smiling. Cassini smiled back and nodded, speechless. Portals, very useful for quick travel. Cassini thought. They took back roads and ended up in front of a huge mansion. The carriage stopped abruptly and Cassini's head banged against the seat.
"Stupid carriage driver." She hissed. She got out of the carriage and gawked at the building in front of her.
"Nice right?" Cassini jumped at the voice, turning around.
"Damn you Jasper!" Cassini said.
"Too late. I'm already damned." He smirked at her and she punched his arm. He stifled a laugh. Cassini walked up to the grand doors and pulled it open. Inside there was a fountain and a grand staircase. She stood there, mouth open, as servants rushed down to get the bags. Jasper laughed, walking up behind Cassini.
"H...how...?" Cassini stuttered.
"Let's just say I know a guy." Jasper smiled. He walked up the grand staircase and Cassini followed him. He stopped in front of a door and opened it.
"This," he walked in, "is your room." The room was painted a gold color and the carpets were a deep purple. It was very large with a walk-in closet and its own bathroom.
"Get settled in and I'll meet you downstairs for dinner." Jasper smiled and walked out of her room, closing the door behind him. Servants brought her bags up and she unpacked. She hung her clothes in the closet, put stuff in her bathroom, and hid her daggers under her bed. She sat down on the bed and looked at everything. This is way bigger than my room. She thought. Cassini changed and went downstairs to eat. Having no clue where she was going, Cassini passed many doors and finally found the dining room. The table was set for two. Cassini sat down and waited for Jasper. He came in and sat down. They ate and Cassini went back to her room. Cassini turned off her laptop and fell asleep.
Cassini woke up the next morning to Leo barking at her. She walked downstairs.
"Morning Cass. Today's our first mission. There's some rogue vampires that we need to take care of off Broadway."
"Gotcha. I'm gonna go change."
