Defining Cloud Computing The term "cloud" pertains to a network or the internet. Cloud computing is a technology that employs remote servers on the internet for storing, managing, and accessing data online, rather than relying on local drives. Data types include files, images, documents, audio, video, and more.

Operations in Cloud Computing Cloud computing facilitates various operations, including:

  1. Development of new applications and services

  2. Data storage, backup, and recovery

  3. Hosting of blogs and websites

  4. On-demand software delivery

  5. Data analysis

Reasons for Adopting Cloud Computing Both small and large IT companies traditionally rely on establishing extensive IT infrastructures, including server rooms equipped with database servers, mail servers, networking components, firewalls, routers, modems, switches, QPS (Query Per Second) measurements, configurable systems, high-speed internet, and maintenance personnel. However, this approach incurs significant costs. Cloud computing emerged as a solution to these challenges by reducing infrastructure costs.

Cloud Computing Characteristics Cloud computing exhibits the following characteristics:

  1. Agility: Cloud systems operate in a distributed computing environment, sharing resources efficiently and responding swiftly.

  2. High Availability and Reliability: Cloud servers boast high availability and reliability, minimizing the risk of infrastructure failures.

  3. High Scalability: Cloud offers on-demand resource provisioning, enabling rapid scaling without the need for dedicated engineers.

  4. Multi-Sharing: Multiple users and applications can efficiently share common infrastructure, leading to cost savings.

  5. Device and Location Independence: Users can access cloud systems via web browsers from any location or device, be it a PC or mobile phone.

  6. Maintenance: Cloud applications are easier to maintain, as they don't require installation on individual user devices and can be accessed from various locations, reducing costs.

  7. Low Cost: Cloud computing reduces costs by eliminating the need for companies to establish their own infrastructure. Costs are based on resource usage.

  8. Pay-Per-Use Services: Users can access cloud services through Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) and pay based on their service usage.
