Summertime

What does summertime mean to you?
If you are still in school it means no more classes,
Freedom,
If not it might just be the time of year when it is extremely hot,
You pray the air conditioner does not break,
And you hope for a chance to go swimming,
What does summertime mean to you?
Does it mean a lot of lost memories?
Every time the warm breeze blows,
Do you think of that one summer long ago,
Or when those summer thunderstorms start rolling,
Do you remember the ruined camping trip that was more fun than y’all could have imagined,
What does summertime mean to you?
Freedom,
Fun,
Memories,
All of the above…

Stand In Line

The cancer is spreading,
I don’t want you to die,
Our whole lives we stand in line,
Waiting for our turn at happiness,
Now yours has come,
And my turn at sadness,
Stand In Line,
We never saw each other often enough,
But I always knew we loved each other,
I get my inclination for music from you,
Amongst other things,
So when the call came,
It was a shock,
Our whole lives we stand in line,
Waiting for our turn at happiness,
Now yours has come,
And my turn at sadness,
We might not be blood related,
But I believe you cared for me more than anybody,
You taught me all the important things,
Respect, courtesy, and love,
You had been sick for a long time,
But I couldn’t watch you die,
Our whole lives we stand in line,
Waiting for our turn at happiness,
Now yours has come,
And my turn at sadness

Daddy’s Girl

We’ve had our ups and downs,
From yours and mom’s divorce,
To you remarrying,
But through it all I remain a daddy’s girl,
You may not always keep your promises,
You may not have always been around,
You have not always been the best dad,
But through it all I remain a daddy’s girl,
Now for some reason we keep the conversation light,
Now we keep each other at a distance,
Now our relationship resembles yours and papa’s,
But I will always be a daddy’s girl.

Wondering

Sitting at home,
All alone,
Watching tv,
Sneaking jack,
Smoking,
Wondering,
When my life became what it is,
When it became almost lifeless,
No one to hold,
No one to hold me,
Not long ago,
I had love,
Or what I thought was love,
What I do know,
Is I was truly happy,
The happiest I believe I have ever been,
But now,
I sit at home,
Every night,
With no one,
No one to talk to,
No one to kiss,
No one to hold,
Sometimes I wonder,
If I will ever have that again,
Something like that,
Something better,
Something that will last,
But for now,
I am sitting at home,
All alone,
Watching tv,
Sneaking jack,
Smoking,
Wondering.
