Spooked

Dick Wilson lived about as deep in the Ridges of Muddy Fork as a man could get. There was just him and his good wife, Bertha. His next neighbor was old Silas Moore. In between these two places was an old mountain graveyard, where folk of long ago were buried. The markers were simple pieces of pointed field rock, stuck at the head of the long-gone dead.

It was the summer of eighteen and forty four when old man Moore asked Dick, his neighbor, to come over and help him fix his fence. The old timer was getting on in years, and was not able to handle much work. With Dick being his only neighbor for several miles, the old man rode his mule down to Dick's place and bid him to come the next day to help with some much needed repairs.
