“You have
to do it, unless you want to be killed by your very own dad.”
The doctor was as professional as possible. She had to be brutally honest. She had to help Zaphyra make the right choice.
Zaphyra, once a carefree nineteen-year-old girl, was losing her breath. The delirium and dilemma over her current situation was very suffocating. She swiftly walked to the window. From there, she could see a particular street. Without uttering a word, she began gazing at it thoughtfully. Mauleen, her doctor and best friend, followed her:
- Please stop looking at that street from time to time. It will only confuse you even more. And suicide is not an option!
- I must have sinned very gravely in the past. That’s why I deserve all that is happening to me right now. If not, then why did God destine me
to fall in love with such a monster?
- Don’t be so harsh on yourself. Just relax, and prepare yourself for the next decision you have to take.
“Relax.”
A word that commanded her lifestyle, until a few hours ago, but now seemed to be the hardest task her mental and emotional capacity could take. However, she had to choose between going under the knife and slip back to normalcy… or risk death by her very own family. The choice was obvious, but not easy.
- I’ll do it. Just promise me things will look and be the way they were before. That I won’t bring any shame to my family because of what has happened to me.
- Yes, Zafy. I can promise you that it will look
the same, but I can’t vouch that you will feel
the same. Hopefully, with time, you will only learn how to stably deal with it. It’s part of your story now. There no going back and changing it. But what you can
change is your present. That in turn will change the outcome of your future. And I must say, I am proud you have chosen to go ahead with it. So, without wasting any more time, let us begin.
Within a few minutes, Zaphyra was able to calm herself down and prepare herself for the surgery. It was the only fruitfully viable option she had to get things back to normal. Most importantly it would prevent any further disaster from occurring. Mauleen then injected some local anesthesia, picked up her tool, and surgically gifted back to Zaphyra that which was inhumanely and illegally stolen from her – her hymen, her virginity, her pride.
Once the procedure was over, Mauleen briefed her about certain post-hymenoplasty dos and don’ts. She also promised to stand by her, should Zaphyra choose to press charges against her ex who molested her. Relived and reassured, Zaphyra hugged her doctor-friend and returned back home: with a second chance at being “new”
