Chapter #1
I could feel it. I could even smell it. There was a change that was going to happen. For what I do not know I wasn’t even sure if it was going to be in my life or to the world all I knew was something big was about to happen. And it was not good. The sense of dread told me that. I was dreading this change. I sighed I hate it when I got these feelings they always darkened up my mood. It was fitting that the sky was gray and that the sky was roaring with anger and as I heard that anger I felt angry to. Why was I always so paranoid. Yesterday I had been sure I was being watched everywhere I had gone even when I was in the shower. I shivered at that thought it was creepy that was sure. But I was also used to it I had always felt that way when I was little and my parents had always teased me about it. I smiled at the thought of them. My mom and her wide smile and her eyes that were as deep as the sea. When you looked deep into them you would find yourself feeling lost and confused. My mother was always confusing but my dad was the opposite his eyes were hazel and when you looked in them you always saw warmth they could melt the coldest heart. Thinking of them I walked faster I was eager to be home it was the only place on this earth that I felt like I belonged it was somewhere I understood and a place where I understood people. I always felt like I didn’t fit in with the people in my school I was as people would say a loner well sort of I did have one friend. I was ripped out of my thoughts again with the feeling I was once again being followed. I looked down the street I had only two houses down to get to the place I was walking but I still felt like it was miles away. Let me say this it was the longest three minutes of my life but despite that I made it and was soothed by the smell of my dads homemade chocolate. This meant we had a visitor. Just then my sister Lynn walked in giggling.
“you will not believe how cute dads new friend is” I rolled my eyes.
“Of course you would have a thing for one of dads friends. He’s probably what fifteen years older then you.” I teased. Lynn shook her head her eyes wide.
“He looks like he’s only twenty.” I had to admit I was curious I mean why was dad hanging out with someone so much younger then him?
“Autumn is that you dear.” My mom stood at the door twisting her hands. I frowned my mom only did that when she was nervous. But I decided to act like I didn’t notice and smiled.
“yup it is.”
“why are you home so late?” she asked. I felt a moment of confusion. I was always home at this time and it was only eight at night everyone knew I went to the library after school.
“I was at the library.” I reminded her.
“well I think you shouldn’t stay out after dark its not safe. Now you should go to the living room we have a guest.” before I could even reply she was already down the hall. I looked at Lynn who only shrugged.
“she’s been like this for the last week.” I decided to think about this later and see who this mysterious guest was. I was not prepared to see what I was about to because there on the couch was not a cute guy no lynns word cute did not give this man justice he looked like an elf that came right out of a fairy tale only he was tall. His hair was long and reached down to the middle of his back and was silever and his eyes was between blue and gray it was as if the colors were trying to over take the other only instead they were clashed together. His beauty left me breathless. I was snapped back at the sound of my sisters giggling and I realized my mouth was wide open. I quickly closed it and blushed. I was such an idiot I thought.
“Dimitri I want you to meet autumn.” I was surprised at the sound of my dads voice instead of friendly and warm he was cold and distant while talking to his friend almost as if he didn’t trust this guy. And when he got up to shake my hand I knew why, there was something disturbing about him as if he had other intens then to be friends with my dad. I shook my head what was I doing? I was judging him before I even knew him or let alone shook his hand so I pushed these thoughts away and shook his hand. He smiled
“it is so nice to meet you I have waited a long time to meet you.” I blinked he had? I looked at my father and silently asked him how long he had even known this man but he only looked away as if he were ashamed I felt even more confused and once again I felt like there was something off.
“Lynn go to your room and leave us for a moment will you?” my mother told her. She nodded and made her way to her room. I couldn’t believe how she wasn’t asking any questions or wondering why they had wanted her to leave but not me. I shook my head then again she did live in another world entirely. When everyone was sure she was out of hearing range my father motioned for me to sit next to him.
“What’s going on?” I asked. Dimitri looked at my father.
“Do you want me to tell her or should I.” my father looked at him angrily.
“I think she should hear it from us not you.” I looked back and fourth between them one angry one amused.
“very well then just please hurry I do not have much time.” my mother put a hand on my fathers shoulder stoping him probably from doing something that he would regret.
“Henry you need to be calm I don’t think punching him would be smart he could rip your throat out.” my father with a look of regret sat back in his seat. Even though I knew that what ever they were going to say to me I wouldn’t like my curiosity got the best of me. So I put my hand over dads and asked him
“what’s going on?” he looked me in the eyes and I saw pure heartbreaking sadness.
“you have to go with this man and live with him.” I was shocked I mean I was imagining lots of things he was going to say but not this.
“What why?” this time it was my mom who answered.
“Because you arent like us.” she walked over and ran her hand through my hair to I guess atempt to soothe me. I frowned more confused then anything else at the moment to process anything else they had said.
“how am I any different then anyone else?” dimitri was the next to speek it seemed everyone was takeing turns.
“they call you a child of the moon.”
“and this is?” I asked dimitri looked irritated.
“I was getting there. They are are rare or as most had believed impossible it was when two human parents have a vampire child.” I was shook again this was not something I had been expecting.I was expecting it to be at least something more normal then this. This man was deranged.
“Is this some kind of joke?” Dmitri sighed
“I always did hate this part of the conversation. And no child it is not and before you even think of going on about how your not craving blood or have no supernatural powers blah blah. I will point out that you have had a very dry throat am I correct?” I was speechless. How could he have known? So ok he had me there I had been experiencing a dry throat for the past few weeks but I wasn’t about to admit that. Because maybe if I lied I wouldn’t have to go with him. All I had to do was convince him I was normal so with that I frowned.
“No actually I haven’t.” I lied as smoothly as I could. His only response was to burst out laughing.
“you know I am a vampire I can read your mind so I know your lyeing. You have to come with me. Now you can chose to come with me the easy way or ill drag you out myself.” he shrugged.
“Either way you will still be coming with me.” I felt myself begin to shake with helpless rage. Who was he to say what I was to do and not to do. One of the things I had always hated was when someone tried to control me. If this had been another situation a more normal one I would have done the exact opposite but even I knew that this was a battle I could not win. Dmitri smiled when he saw my shoulders slump in defeat. I heard a movement behind me and when I turned around I saw my sister behind me. From the look in her face I knew she had been listening the whole time. Her face was a cross between wonderment and horror at the very thought of me being a vampire.
“when do I leave?” I asked as calmly as I could.
“You leave tonight.” My father answered before Dmitri could speak. He glared. My sister took my hand.
“I can help her pack.” I was surprised how in control and strong she sounded. I had always thought I was the strong one but once again she surprised me. My mother nodded in agreement. I numbly let Lynn lead me up the stairs to my room and when I got there all I could do was stare at the place I had always know it was then that it struck me. I would be soon staying in another room.
“I always did no you were different.” my sister whispered with a small smile.
“Even the way you saw the world was different.” there was tears in her eyes.
“I know your scared but I don’t think you should be because I know deep inside that where you are going will bring you a happiness that being here could.” she paused and took a shaky breath and lifted her head and looked into my eyes.
“Even if it takes you a long time to figure it out one day you will realize that is where you are suppose to be.” I wasn’t sure if I should have been angry or sad. I leaned towards being sad. I didn’t have enough energy to be angry. So all I did was sit there and watch as she threw random things in my trunk. It only took her about ten minutes to pack all the things I needed. Just as she was zipping up my bag my mom walked in. I could tell she had been crying but now she wore a face of determination to be strong. She sat next to me and put her arms around me and smiled sadly at me.
“I know this is hard but I know you can do it plus Dmitri said we could visit.” I felt a little better when my mom told me this at least I would see them again. I knew that if I was going to live with Dmitri I would be living with other vampires. I sighed and looked at my mom before getting the courage to grab my bag from my sisters shaky grip and make myself go down the stairs through the hall and out the front door. It was my moms courage that gave me strength to do so. I felt like I was fearless walking out that door head held high and back straight. I knew that this was only a breif I would go back to being scared but at least when that time came I could look back and know that I was strong at this time and I could be again.
Chapter #2
We were finally here at last. It had seemed like an eternity since we had drove out of my drive way with me looking back glancing at my parents for one last time not knowing when I would see them. I felt anxious to be there. A part of me wanted to get there and get it over with another part of me wanted to stall getting there. But now that I was here I had the I wanted to jump out of the car and run the other direction. That however became hard when I looked at the mansion in front of me I was Momentarily breathless before entering the driveway there was a stone bridge the driveway there was a stone bridge but that wasn’t what left me breathless it was the water fall under it I wasn’t sure if I should be scared of it or awed it was magnificent it was the bluest water I had ever seen and the mansion (I think castle would be a better word to describe it) was had a gothic Victorian look to it As much as I didn’t want to be here I couldn’t help but admire it. But what I saw next was even more beautiful then everything else. She was standing on the stone steps that lead to inside the house. Her hair was long and curly it reached to the middle of her back, it was pure gold. It put my mothers favorite gold necklace to shame, her skin was smooth and pale. But her eyes were the best part about her, when I looked into her eyes it reminded me of a lion who was about to pounce. But at the same time they reminded me of honey. I sighed wanting to stare into her eyes and never stop Dmitri’s chuckle brought me back to reality and it was then I realized I had somehow walked out of the car and stood in front of her. without even realizing it, I felt myself blush and I looked down embarrassed.
“Autumn this is my wife Helena she is also my eyes and ears here.” I gasped I couldn’t believe this women in front of me was his wife. I had to admit he did good but I wondered what she could have seen in this guy. I had only been with him for a few days and I already knew he was arrogant and stubborn. But the girl in front of me I somehow knew was gentle and sweet. I was proved right when she smiled and put her hand up.
“merry meet autumn daughter of the moon I have waited for your arrival.” she then put her fist over heart and bowed her head. I gasped I rembered how when someone greeted me like this it was to show loyalty and respect. In other words she was showing loyalty and I had the feeling she was really respected. I was speechless. She smiled in understanding.
“you are wondering why someone as high up as me is swearing loyalty.” she stated more then asked. I slowly nodded.
“it is because I consider all the kids who moved here as my children and since you have moved here I consider you more important then my life.” her eyes were soft and I felt tears form in my eyes. She reminded me of my own mom she was gentle yet strong it made me almost happy to be here. almost
“thank you, but I was also wondering how many other people live here?” I asked dreading the answer.
“we have thirteen others that includes you. I understand you are not thrilled about living with the other supernatural beings but I think you might find them quite nice.” she smiled and then clapped her hands together.
“I think we have talked enough here how about I show you your room.” I nodded in agreement. She turned around and started to lead me inside I sighed I guessed there was no stopping it I had to enter the house I would call home sooner or later. Helena looked back at me.
“you wont have to worry about meeting anyone tonight I sent them all out to hunt.” I frowned.
“I thought that not everyone here was a vampire or werewolf.” I said. She nodded
“you are correct but the witches and physics’ make sure no humans are harmed.” I nodded that did make sense.
“I made sure your roommate was a witch I thought maybe it would be easier then with a vampire. I think you will get along with her well. She has only been here for three weeks her name is Brie.” I only half listened to what she was saying I was distracted by a door that stood in the middle of the room. It was about eleven feet tall and was stone on it was pictures of gargoyles. It wasn’t the door that was calling me it was something behind it. I felt like all I wanted to do was open it. I walked towards barley even knowing what I was doing all I knew is that I wanted that door open. I was just about to put my hand on the door handle when I felt myself being pulled away. I looked up and saw Dmitri’s pale face. His face if it was possible had gone even paler then it had been before. Him and Helena exchanged a look. Then he looked back down at me his face grim.
“You need to stay away from this door you are forbidden unless we give you permission. Do you understand?” I nodded speechless. It wasn’t their reaction that confused me. It was mine. What was behind that door that had made me act like that? I turned around and vowed I would find out even if I had to sneak in there and disobey orders. I shuddered I would likely not do that but maybe I could find some other way…
***
My room was absolutely amazing the carpet was deep dark purple, the walls were black, and next to one of the beds was a fire place. It was amazing I had to admit this girl had good taste. I smiled we did have some in common. My favorite colors were purple and black and she had nothing but purple and black even her cloths were purple and black. ( I hoped she didn’t notice I had looked in her closet) she also liked the same books as me she had all the eragon books. I felt my eyes grow heavy I was exhausted. I found the nearest bed and collapsed on it my eyes were closed before my head had even hit the pillow.*** Dmitri and Helena
Helena passed the room frowning muttering to herself as she often did when she was frustrated. She looked at Dmitri’s amused face and growled.
“How can you be amused at a time like this!” she demanded.
“Because we aren’t even sure if it is really her.” he answered calmly. She threw her hands in the air.
“ how can you say that when the proofis right there. The prophecy says that a child of the moon would wake up…” she stopped unable to say the next words. Even saying them in her head made her feel nothing but dread. Shewasn’t sure if she could do what she had been told to do. If it was true she would have to make sure that the child did her duty. Even if she had to force her. She hoped that if it were true the girl would except her fate. She knew though that was not likely she had only just meet her but she could tell she wouldn’t like that.
“ we should wait until we know for sure before we seek the councils presence. We don’t want to make a big deal of nothing” he suggested although he knew deep down in his heart his wife was right she had been drawn to the door that held the sleeping vampire. Even though he would not willingly admit it he was starting to care about her like no other person besides his wife of course. He never cared about this place or what happened to them he was as people so much called him cold hearted. She sighed.
“your right and even though she was we should give her sometime to seatle in.” Dmitri pulled his golden headed wife in his lap and put his arms around her and nodded.
“Then wait we shall”
Chapter #3
I woke up to the sound of voices. Even though I was awake I didn’t open my eyes. I knew I had slept through the whole day and that it was around eight at night. So that ment everyone was back. I was not eager to meet them just yet.
“Her hair is so pretty don’t you think?” I heard someone snort.
“yes well she’s still in your bed. Where did you sleep?”
“In her bed see now were even.” answered a cheerful voice. I realized they were talking about me. I blushed ashamed I had took her bed wishing I had been paying more attention to where I was laying down. Finally my curiosity got the best of me and I opened my eyes and looked at the door where the sources of the voices had came from. One girl was small with curly brown hair, her eyes were a hazel and wide witch made her look innocent. The girl next to her was the exact opposite. Her head was bald witch made her more rough looking, her eyes were pure black, and to top it all off she had to many piercing to count. They both stopped talking and looked at me. Sense I had no idea I just smiled sheepishly at them I couldn’t believe I had slept in her bed. Before I could try and brake the silence I felt a force knock me down.
“You woke up! I cant believe I finally get to meet you. There’s been rumors of a real life moon child.” her cheerfulness stated to rub off on me and I found myself smile a real smile for the first time in what felt like ages. “Yea its nice to meet you to sorry I slept in your bed.” she waved away the apology.
“It’s no big deal the other bed was just as good.” she threw a glare at the bald girl.
“My name I’m sure you already know is brie and this is my friend Dee.” shelooked at her in away that said she was to say hi. The girl lifted and waved at me half heartedly. I had a feeling this girl didn’t like me very much. Brie rolled her eyes.
“your going to have to excuse her rudeness she kind of holds a grudge against vamps so don’t take it to heart.” she giggled when Dee glared at her. “Anyways we should go to the conman room so you can meet everyone else.” I felt a sudden urge to get up and run out the window but was able to refrain from doing so. She was just being so nice and I just couldn’t say no to those big brown eyes. So I merely nodded at her and let her take me by the hand and lead me out of the room. As we made our way to the common room we once again passed the same door that had been calling out to me yesterday I shivered.
“Hey brie do you know what that door leads to?” I asked as innocently as I could. She just shook her head.
“No one does except Dmitri and Helena we aren’t even allowed near it and I would suggest asking about it either it’s a touchy subject.” we walked in silence the rest of the way. When we entered the room was buzzing with the sound of people talking only to growsilent when we entered. They were all looking at me. I fidgeted under their piercing gazes. It was one gaze that made me the most uneasy. I could tell she was a vampire just by looking at her. She had short black hair, pale skin, and gray eyes. She was sneering at me. She hated me for some unknown reason. I had the feeling we would not be painting each others nails anytime soon. I sighed I hated it when people randomly hated me before they even meet me. I was saved by the sound of Dmitri’s voice.
“ah so I see you have meet everyone.” I looked behind me to see him standing there looking amused.
“well I think you should get ready for the morning you are after all going to be going to school.” wow wait did he just say school?
“wait I have to go to school? I mean should I even be going out in the day aren’t I turning into a vampire?” Dmitri chuckled.
“that may be so but you haven’t turned fully anyways plus when you do turn into one there’s charms you can wear so you can go into the sunlight.” I sighed I guessed I wouldn’t be getting out of school anytime soon.
“oh don’t worry autumn me and Dee and everyone else will be there.” A guy with blond hair and green eyes grinned. And hit me playfully in the arm.
“yea and ill show you around.” he winked.
“my name is Elliot by the way and in case you haven’t noticed I’m a vamp.” he was stating the obvious but I still like him. He was really hot. I blushed when I thought that I mean you could tell this guy was a player.
“Elliot you should stop scaring the new girl.” said a smooth voice. A blond came up behind him. I instantly knew they were twins they looked just alike. I looked closer trying to size her up to see if she was nice or not. I had always been careful on who I talked to I had always been the type to be intimated by people but was relieved to see her give a warm smile. Her green eyes were filled with laughter.
“He’s going to be hitting on you every waking minute its not every day a girl as pretty as you comes around.” I looked around confused there were five beautiful girls in here.
“um thank you I think.” I said hesitantly.
“well I think since its going to be your first day tomorrow at Spartans high you should look your best.” she answered ignoring my baffled look. Before I could even protest she was already leading me to a room were I asumed she would torment me.
