Chapter 1 - The Land of Sunshine

Once upon a time, in a place far away, there was a wonderful land called Sunshine. It was ruled by a beautiful Queen, who was as nice as she was beautiful. Sunshine was like a paradise. As the ruler of Sunshine, it was the Queens’ job to ensure that everyone in Sunshine was happy and content with their lives.

Within the land of Sunshine there was a very special little girl named Sally Sunshine. She was special because she had the biggest smile in Sunshine. Because she lived in Sunshine, she was always smiling and laughing and very happy. Her devoted little dog and favorite companion was a little mutt named Mr. Happy. Mr. Happy followed Sally Sunshine everywhere she went and wanted nothing more than to make her smile. They had a very happy life, with no worries or cares in the world.

Sally and Mr. Happy woke up every morning with big smiles on their faces, excited about what was ahead. You see, in the land of Sunshine, every day was a new adventure, with so many fun things to do and new things to discover. Everybody in Sunshine was very friendly and filled with joy and excitement. All the little children had wonderful families who loved them and took care of all their wants and needs.

They never fell down or hurt themselves or went hungry. The trees were made of wonderful things that kids love like lollipops and gumdrops. Fences were made of tootsie rolls. The ponds and lakes had fishes made of many beautiful different colors all swimming around and smiling up at the children.

Their teachers in school were very nice and helpful and made sure they learned their lessons in a fun way. The teachers believed that children would remember things better if they had fun while they were learning, so they always made a game out of their lessons. All the children loved going to school and learning new things.

The children’s classmates and friends all got along with each other and played together during recess and after school. You see, in Sunshine there was no such thing as meanness or anger and certainly nobody was ever unhappy or sad.

Life was perfect for everyone is the Land called Sunshine. Then one day, something terrible happened that changed all that…

Chapter 2 - The Land of Frowns and the Evil King

What nobody in Sunshine Land knew is that there was another world outside the land of Sunshine called the Land of Frowns. They were two different worlds and none of the children in Sunshine land had ever heard about Frowns. Sunshine and Frowns were complete opposites.

For many years, the two worlds were separated by a huge wall so no one could see what was on the other side. In fact no one even knew there was something on the other side.

For many years, there was an evil King that ruled the land of Frowns. His whole purpose in life was to make his people sad, like him. That’s why people and children in the land of Frowns were very different than the children in Sunshine because children in Frowns were never ever happy. Their lives were gloomy. In fact, the sun would not shine in the Land of Frowns and the weather was always dark and gloomy.

The King of Frowns had rules that outlawed the parents in Frowns from being nice and they were even ordered to be mean to their children.

Because of the King’s rules, the adults were unhappy every day, children were always being punished or yelled at or completely ignored. They weren’t even allowed to care if their children were starving. Kids had to make their own meals. They never had new clothes, so they wore the same clothes that were raggedy and dirty.

And the Evil King even made sure that the teachers didn’t care if their students learned anything or not. They didn’t make learning fun and they yelled at them and punished them if they didn’t understand something in their lessons.

This terrible behavior by all the adults around them made the children very sad and very scared all the time. They had never smiled or had fun or
