Finally it was time. The moment she had always been dreading, it was finally here. He sat in a small chair in front of her, locked in place, trapped so there was no getting away. He twisted and turned, banged his fist, even had the nerve to curse under his breath. She noted that. There will be punishment later. Now however, she had other plans. She approached him slowly, eyes never leaving his face. His face contorted in disgust and repulsion. She grabbed his chin with firm fingers, and inserted a spoonful of steamed vegetables through her son’s struggling lips.

Snap of a gunshot. Linda stared in horror at the limp body of Ryan hitting the solid floor, blood pooling out in a crimson puddle. The revolver slid off her trembling fingers, thudding on the floor beside his frozen eyes. She flashed back on the day they first met, his childish smile, that sparkle in his eyes he always had. Their first kiss under the shelter of a tree on a rainy afternoon, everything came crashing back. She wanted to cry, wishing that other girl never came. But now she did not have time. She had evidence to clear up.

“Will you go to prom with me?”
She stared at him without blinking. She tried to understand what he was thinking, tried to look beyond the depth of his eyes. She was finding it rather difficult though, what with his hazel eyes penetrating hers, and that perfect stern face never betraying a single hint to his thoughts. She did not dare say a word, but her mind drifted back to all those times she wanted him to notice her. The day was finally here, the moment she had always been waiting for.
“Yes, I will”. Surprised, but smiling, Kevin answered.
