The Beckoning Sun

Just before dawn on Simulacrum, a restless young man walked outside to watch the sunrise. Darkness became daylight as the brilliant ultraviolet sun illuminated the horizon. The young man watched in utter bewilderment as violet, indigo, and blue suns raced across the sky. Suddenly, a bright yellow sun shone directly on the young man revealing his completely clear skin and solid color blue eyes. The young man closely watched the yellow sun as orange, red, and infrared suns also traversed the sky. When the yellow sun was even with the horizon, a knight in shiny silver armor emerged from the sun. The knight extended his hand to the young man.

“You answered our hale! Welcome to Simulacrum! My name is Naso!” The young man exclaimed.

“You shall leave Dark Star Territory. Our brethren need you.” The knight said as solid color blue eyes and a smile glowed in his faceplate.

“What brethren?” Naso asked.

As Naso and the knight faced one another, a fleet of long and wide ultraviolet, Simulacrum Quadrilateral ships shaped like two isosceles triangles joined together at a common base attacked long and wide silver Diamond shaped vessels emerging from the yellow sun. The Simulacrum attack had no effect on the silver Diamonds. All Quadrilaterals inexplicably lost power. The lead silver Diamond fired a blinding white sparkling “pulsar” through the crippled Simulacrum fleet. Naso intently watched the pulsar race through an indigo solar system where a race of clear skinned Neanderthals with solid color eyes watched in awe. The pulsar later entered a blue solar system where a human like race with clear skin peered in confusion. In a green solar system, a wingless bat species chased the white “fireball.”

The pulsar ended its trajectory in a yellow solar system. Naso observed a great flood rushing through an enormous valley. Hominids and other animals scurried in vain to outrun the raging torrent. Once the great valley was inundated, the water soon fractured an isthmus to a lesser valley. Naso saw a man narrowly escape the rising water. Swirling dust devils obscured the man’s true appearance.

“You must hurry! Time grows short for us!” The stranger yelled.

“How will I find you?” Naso shouted from the opposite shore.

“The Bright Star will guide you.” The knight said as he hovered above the turbulent straight.

Naso awoke violently as the tumultuous water completely eroded the shoreline.

“Run!” Naso shouted.

“What happened?” Naso’s wife, Maea, demanded.

“I dreamed I was about to drown on an alien planet.”

“That’s it? You interrupted my beauty for a nightmare! I thought we had an intruder!”

“I’m just a little anxious about this Bright Star Expedition.”

“We’ve done interstellar journeys for three years, so why are you so nervous now?”

“Because we’ve never visited any of the yellow suns! There may be completely different life near those suns, if life is even possible under such bright light.”

“You’re giving it too much thought! I don’t even think we’ll find anything under such harsh conditions.”

“Didn’t ever cross your mind that there may be intelligent, but hostile species out there with technology equal to or greater than our own?”

“So far, the most advanced species we’ve seen are Idolon Neanderthals and Phasman primates. The Simulacrum-Idolon Hybrids are smarter than the Idolons, but they’re not as smart as us. Now goodnight, honey!”

“Those Hybrids will surprise us all one day! They’ve already made remarkable advances on Phasma! Don’t underestimate them! Now you can have your beauty sleep!”

Shortly after dawn, Naso met with his father, Gratian, to discuss the upcoming expedition.

“I just have to know. Are you a little ambivalent about venturing outside Dark Star Territory?” Gratian asked.

“You have the gift for understatement! I can’t help but wonder if yellow sunlight will kill us immediately! I also think we’re bound to find something intelligent and not so friendly in Bright Star Territory.” Naso commented.

“I’d rather happen upon a kind, ancient race with all the answers to life’s mysteries!”

“You’re still tenacious. You just might solve the secrets of the universe yet.”

“By the way, who else knows you merged grandpa’s genetic samples and ours with eggs from Saul, Nimrod, and Hadad’s female relatives’ on Idolon?”

“Just your mother. She knew the Hybrid offspring would have the same foresight we do. Besides, it never hurts to have friends in far away places.”

Naso and Gratian’s were interrupted by a video conference request from Senators Lexus and Heliodorus of Simulacrum’s twin moons, Severus and Drusus, respectively.

“Sorry to disturb you gentlemen, but we have some disappointing news.” Lexus said.

“Consul Raguel convinced the Senate to send a military expedition to the nearest white dwarf stars. The military’s bringing thousands of Hybrids on the journey. Our esteemed colleagues want cannon fodder in case we meet hostile indigenous
