The Interspecies Treaty
Following the successful Human-Neanderthal Summit, Andrew Maze along with Democritus and Adrianus, his counterparts from The Aesculus Neanderthal Republic and The Lamian Union, urged their governments to negotiate an interspecies Treaty. On August 23, 2982, Human Alliance representatives from the Earth, Amazon, and Orion Solar Systems and Neanderthal Republic delegates eagerly awaited the arrival of Lamian Union ambassadors. To overcome language barriers, delegates from the three races attached micro translators to their earlobes. This measure was taken due to the Lamian language. Humans and Neanderthals spoke the same languages. At 8:00 a.m., the Lamian flagship, Vindex, landed at Aeacus City in the Commonwealth of Orion. The Vindex’s escort ship, the Dreadnought Illinois, hovered in the distance for security. As Andrew and his wife, Serina, exited the Vindex along side Adrianus and his wife, Adria, the crowd briefly gasped then fell silent.
“This is probably a curious reaction like Democritus, his wife, Cassandra, and their pet lynx, Felis, receiveded 10 months earlier upon descending from the Juggernaut Helena.” Andrew said.
“Or maybe apprehension best describes the mood people feel upon seeing our bipedal wingless bat species.” Adrianus mentioned.
“We are equally wary upon seeing hominids in intense yellow sunlight emanating from the companion stars Orion and Merope. After all, we nocturnal Lamians evolved under a green star. That’s why we wear these sunglasses.” Adria explained.
Spectators briefly smiled as Andrew’s dog, Aussie, and Adrianus’ pet raccoon, Lotor, followed on opposite sides of the procession.
“Can’t you three feel the excitement in the air? Our three species are preparing to ratify The Interspecies Treaty! Let’s be happy today! We deserve it for once!” Serina said. Treaty stipulations included cultural, medical, and scientific exchanges, and a non-aggression pact.
Once the signing ceremony was complete, the delegates began their week long tour of the Cluster of Orion’s 10 habitable planets-Aeacus, Britomartis, Dardanus, Concordia, Glaucus, Kalypsó, Cenarius, Klymenê, Triton, and Fortuna.
“In the following months, signatories from each species will visit the five solar systems under the Treaty’s jurisdiction and the Draco Solar System.” Andrew said.
“Both the Neanderthals and the Lamains want to see Draco’s humongous flying lizards for ourselves.” Democritus said.
The Lamian Union consented to give our human and Neanderthal friends a tour of other habitable planets near green stars.” Adria informed.
The Crimson Sun
At 3:00 a.m. the following morning, Andrew was dreaming about early space flights. Andrew envisioned himself as a lone 20th century astronaut in an Apollo Lunar Module. Just before dawn, Andrew landed the module at a lakefront heliport. He thought he was in Chicago’s Meigs Fielduntil a red sun rose above a yellow lake. People immediately approached him from all sides. Andrew removed his helmet then the crowd gasped at his fair complexion, brown hair, and bright blue eyes. Andrew himself went silent at the sight of sulfur colored people with red hair. Their eyes had red scleras and irises surrounding black pupils. Police quickly whisked Andrew away to the nearby military base. Military doctors began examining him. One couple treated Andrew with complete kindness. The kindness was short lived. Guards forcibly removed the couple while an unscrupulous doctor sedated Andrew. As Andrew lay delirious on an examination table, the doctor interrogated him.
“How big is your invasion fleet? When will they arrive?” The doctor asked.
“I’m lost. I’m not supposed to be here. This isn’t Earth.” Andrew answered.
“Is Earth the name of your planet?”
“Yes. What’s the name of this planet?”
“The name of this planet’s not important. What is important is that I am a physician. I’m here to see that everything works. If it doesn’t work, I cut it off.”
Andrew awoke in a cold sweat with the doctor’s diabolical face etched into his mind.
“Don’t tell me. Let me guess. You were dreaming again.” Serina said while trying to rock their son, Richard, to sleep.
“It was more of a nightmare than a dream. I have a nasty tingling in my spine and kidneys.” Andrew answered as Christopher initiated a video call.
“Hey Dad, you read my mind. I was just about to call you.” Andrew said.
“You saw another battle just like last time. Didn’t you?” Christopher asked.
“Actually, I was about to be tortured. Who was at battle?” Andrew responded.
“I saw human ships and Lamian cruisers fighting triangle shaped ghost ships surrounded by a blue aura. But more importantly who was about to torture you?”
“It was a demonic man with yellow skin and fiery red hair and dark red eyes. Who else dreamed what you saw?”
“I don’t know! That’s why I intend to ask the Easts,
