Caught Up in Disaster

July 4, 2001

What started out to be a great turned out to me an awful afternoon. So we are invited to a BBQ at a friends-okay not bad, so ofcourse we have to rush and feed the horses. So my sister an i are walking down to the barn because its right down the road, and i hear a horse crying in pain. this was a blood curdling sound. I sped up to see what was happening and molly, my 14.1hh haflinger was cought up underneith a round pen pannel. Her body was trapped underneith the pannel, and her head was stuck between the 2 bars. she couldnt get free. i was scared. my sister was crying, could this day get any worse? (famous last words) So i ran over to see what if she was cut or if anything was visibly broke. My sister used her android cellphone to call my mom and my dad; they came running up and they called the vet. in the meantime im on my knees trying to calm this 3,000 lb animal whos flailing around, and scared. Everybody who is driving by is seeing this. I start talking to molly, and im telling her 'everything is going to be okay, no need to be afraid. i wont let you get hurt, i promise'. she started to calm down. I normally sing to her when she gets nerveous when im riding her so i started singing to her and she became quiet; so did my parents. My mom told me that the vet and the firecompany will be here shortly (the firecompany to get the 'jaws of life' to cut the metal to get her loose). Everybody was silent; as im singing to molly y parents were in awe. They couldn't believe what was happening, their daughter; me, could communicate with a horse.
