THE DINER WITH NO NAME
I’ve driven ten hours. I must stop to stretch, gas up, eat and relieve myself. I stumbled out
of my car feeling numbness and heaviness in my left foot. The more I walked, the more I felt the
cool blood oozing back into my left foot. My foot felt lighter and lighter the more I walked.
As I looked up at the rusty local diner sign which had no name on it, a small grayish glue like
substance fell on the corner of my mouth. I quickly wiped it off as the big crow flew quickly
over my head screaming out of control. While I was watching the crow fly away, a tall man with
boils all over his overly tanned face, bumped into me as if he had not seen me there. I yelled, “Excuse you!” He never looked back at me. As I walked closer to the diner with no name, I began to feel uneasy because the people inside of the diner had their eyes fixed on my every move. As they pierced through the window at me, the inner most part of my being alerted me to get back in my car and to keep driving. Instead of following my instincts, I continued to walk towards the dusty unclean diner. As I continued walking, I noticed the clutter of junk outside of the diner. However, I was in fact very hungry and tired. Hungry enough to eat the actual junk which was piled up outside of the diner. When I grabbed the door handle, I tugged on it as hard as I could but the door appeared to be jammed. I snatched the door one last time with all the strength that was within me. Finally, the door opened and the bell over the door rung. Then out ran a drooling, flee infested huge dog from behind the counter jumping right at my neck. At this point, I relieved myself. Soaked with urine, I ran and screamed for help but no one moved a muscle to help me. Immediately, I climbed on top of the diner counter which was covered with money. The filthy dog chased me and continued to jump towards me clashing his teeth as he growled. As I looked around the diner, no one changed their facial expressions they just stared at me with their piercing cold eyes. I grabbed the cake dishes and napkin holders and threw them at the vicious persistent animal as if they were bombs. As blood squirted from the dogs rear leg, down he went. Finally, a lady about 4 feet tall came from behind the counter and took the dog, then everyone in the diner stood up and clapped. When she returned, she placed the wrinkled soggy money on the counter into her pocket. I stood on the counter trembling in fear as everyone continued to stare at me. I wondered what in the world had I just entered into. I yelled, “What is going on here? What’s wrong with you people?” I shook with fear as I searched my jacket for my cell phone to call 911, but remembered that it was in my car. As I looked at the front door I jumped off the counter and attempted to open the door. Oh no, it was jammed again but I continued to pull on the knob until I heard a strange hissing sound which was getting louder and louder. I ran to the kitchen area looking for another exit. As I ran the crowd in the diner followed me. I just knew these strange people were about to attack me. After i entered the kitchen, the crowd of people did not enter but instead stopped at the entrance and continued to stare at me. As I searched for a way out, something long fell from the ceiling near the stove. God help me! It’s a snake! I opened the kitchen drawer and it was full of snakes. I looked at the ceiling and quickly grabbed one of the long knives that were hanging on a hook. Suddenly, there were snakes everywhere. I began to swing the knife as the snakes approached me making a hissing sound. I was able to cut up many snakes but there were just too many of them. I grabbed the broom from a corner near a table that was covered with money. I ran to the stove and turned on each eye on top as well as the oven. I lit the straws on the broom and used it as a torch. I was able to burn many of the snakes and use the knife to put many of them into the hot oven which killed them instantly. I turned around quickly with the torch because I heard the sound of someone or something walking in my direction from a dark area. I lowered my torch when I saw it was the 4 foot lady, once again, gathering the money from the table but this time giving a small portion to various people in the crowd. She was awfully strange, she never looked at me, not once. All of a sudden, everyone clapped. I yelled covered with fire ash, “You people are insane! I finally realize what you all are doing. You all are making wages against whether I will live or die! You mean my life is just a game to you creeps?” My anxiety level was extremely high at this point, so i looked with great desperation around the kitchen for an exit. Great! Right over there, there is an exit. I ran to the door and swiftly opened it. Then, the crowd of people followed me, once again, to the door. However, as I was about to run for my life, I noticed there were no stairs but instead there was a lake. Knowing that I could not swim, I still jumped into the lake. Splash! Into the water I went, sinking lower, lower and lower. Until I heard a loud recognizable voice yelling, “Honey wake up! Why are you screaming sweetheart? Wake up!”
