In America, one of the most important parts of history in the world, in 1692 Salem, Massachusetts. People where hung, where burnt alive at the stake, or more if they were accused of being a witch or doing witch craft. It actually started in Europe and made its way into America. What people don't tell you is the story of two young adults, a brother and a sister, who were two guards a cottage from evil spirits and the witches.
The cottage itself sat next to a cemetery. It was always gloomy and foggy. It was a spooky and weary place to be especially at night. Spirits roamed around, some good, some bad, others who just wanted to walk around before they went back to their dark, coffin to sleep.
An almost twenty-year-old girl with dark brown hair and dark brown eyes to match was crying into a tall twenty-year-old, brown hair man's chest. She stood about up to the man's shoulders. She hugged onto him.
The man just let her cry as he stroke her head. "It’s okay, Amillet," he reassured her.
"It's not okay," Amillet replied. "We're together at last and now they want to take me from you, Christian."
"It's going to be alright. I'll come and visit and I'm sure you can come and visit me too. Besides I trust that your brother won't let anything happen to you."
Amillet shook her head and looked down at the dirt which she stood on. "Why me? I'm not a guardian and why did they choose me? A woman?"
Christian smiled. "Don't worry about it. We will be back together again and I think that they picked the right two. You and William make a good team."
They heard someone clear their voice. They looked over to see a man with somewhat long dark brown hair, like Amillet's, and black eyes walking over to them in the moonlight. "What are you two love birds doing?" he asked, smiling.
Amillet closed her eyes, tears falling down her cheek.
"Come on, Amillet. We have to go," the man said. He was about nineteen-years-old.
Amillet sighed at her brother's words. "Yes, William. Just one more moment, please?"
"Okay. But hurry up. The ghosts are probably getting restless and we must make sure they don't get out of the cemetery."
Amillet nodded. She looked up into Christian's eyes. "I will meet you here every night until...." She broke down into tears. "One of us is gone."
"And I'll hold you up on that deal," Christian replied. "I love you, Amillet. Now go and I'll meet you here tomorrow night."
Amillet nodded and walked over to her brother, looking back at Christian then to the road ahead of her.
William had looked around at the railings which surrounded the cemetery. He could see that none of the spirits were walking around. He was hoping that they were still in their graves. As him and his sister made their way to the little, old, wooden cottage he let her walk a head of him. He looked around to memorize the sight. He looked over and noticed a ghostly man, with dreary eyes staring at them. The man looked kind of pale and kind of if he weren't there.
"Excuse me, sir. Can I help you with something?" William asked the man, stopping in his tracks.
Amillet stopped when she heard her brother speak. She turned to look at him then in the direction of the man who he was talking to, but she didn't see anyone or anything. She didn't want to ask and just closed her eyes for a minute or so she thought.
"AMILLET, LOOK OUT!"
Amillet opened her eyes when she felt some one push her. She looked over to see William fighting a ghostly man. He had found a sword somewhere. She looked around, but there were no other spirits around. She was freaked out.
"RUN INTO THE COTTAGE, AMILLET, AND LOOK FOR WEAPONS!" William called as he fought with the ghost.
Amillet did as her brother had said. The weapons in the house were made to fight off the different spirits. It wasn't going to be easy, but it was effective. She looked for something in the house when she noticed a rope and a sword. She picked up the sword and decided to leave the rope.
She ran out to help fight with her brother. When she was outside, she looked over and noticed that William was holding himself up on the ground and that the ghost he was fighting was gone.
William was breathing heavy. He looked up at the porch and seen his sister standing there. He kind of smiled as he pushed himself back. "Come here, Amillet," he motioned to her.
Amillet dropped her sword and ran over to her dear brother. She cried as she hugged him. "We're going to die here. I just know it."
"Hey, don't worry about it. I'm okay."
Amillet looked up at her brother, kind of mad and smacked him.
They heard a ghostly laugh. They looked over at a tree and the ghost who was fighting William was cracking up. "You put up a good fight, kid," the ghost said. "I can see that the living had sent me someone I can train with."
They noticed that the man was wearing a uniform and that he was once a soldier when he was a live. "I'm General Bowergaurd. It's pronounce Bow-er-gaurd, just like it's spelled. Now I'm one of the good spirits and I'm here to help the two of you, but I will have to admit that you can't trust all of us. There are those you need to watch out for. Good spirits can walk freely in and out of that cottage whether the door is open or not where as the evil spirits can only enter if the door is open. Young lady, you should go back and close that door before you have an evil spirit walking in there. They are set to kill anyone and anything."
Amillet nodded and ran over to the cottage and closed the door.
"You two have a lot of spirits to worry about here. A few of the little well young ones like to pull pranks on people. Little harmless pranks, but some of them you have to watch closely it doesn't matter how old or young they are. I will be here to help you learn which ones you can trust and which ones you can't. You two understand?"
"Um....Yes sir," Amillet answered.
"We understand. Um.... Question.... Can we get something to eat around here?"
Bowergaurd smiled and nodded. "Yes, believe it or not the living has food in there for the both of you. Now before you go to eat, what are your names?"
William stood up and held out his hand. "I am William Trescott and this is my eldest sister, Amillet." Bowergaurd smiled at the names. "It is a pleasure to meet the both of you. Now if you excuse me, I have to get ready for another fight."
Amillet and William watched as the ghost bowed and slowly started to vanish.
Amillet awoke to a high pitch scream. She noticed that William wasn't in the dark room. She stood up and walked around, opening doors to other rooms, but no sight of her brother. She walked outside and realized that the sun was just starting to rise and that William was sitting on the edge of the porch. She walked over to him and kind of pulled up her dress to sit next to him.
"I was talking to Bowergaurd this morning," William said as he looked around. "He said that the ghost don't walk during the day. They only arrive at night so we can sleep then and wake up about sunset." Amillet looked at her brother and then to the graves. "Why is that?"
"Because they are free at night to roam whereas during the day the...."
They heard a woman screaming. When they looked out into the town the noticed men dragging a woman out of her home and over to a little stage which had a cross placed on it. They weren't close enough to see what was going on, but they knew.
Amillet ran to the opening of the cemetery. Tears filled her eyes. "They have Lisa," she told William.
William felt his heart drop as she said the name. Lisa was his love and now she was going to have to suffer. "No.... They have her on trial?"
Amillet looked over at the little stage and noticed how they had tied her to the cross. "It's too late. They think that she's a witch and now they're...."
Smoke started coming from the town and the town people had backed away to watch the woman burn to death.
"She's burning...." Amillet couldn't watch anymore. She turned away from the horrible sight. Her best friend, her brother's soon to be wife, was gone.
William dropped to his knees as he seen the smoke. He couldn't believe that the woman he loved was gone, all because the town declared her to be a witch. He knew her well enough to know that it wasn't true, but now it was too late.
Amillet looked at her brother and knew that he was heartbroken. "William, I am so sorry. I didn't think that they would do that."
"No she can't be gone, she has to...." William stood up and turned the cottage and went inside. He didn't want to see the sight.
Amillet ran inside to try and help her brother. She knew that he was angry with the town for what they did but she needed to talk to him.
Later that day, William sat in a chair, thinking about Lisa. He wanted to know if that was the reason why the town chose him for this job so they could kill his future wife.
Amillet walked inside with some meat, bread, and water. She knew that her brother must have been hungry. She lightly kicked the door close and carried the food to her brother. "Here. You need to eat. Lisa...."
"Lisa.... Why would they burn her assuming that she does witch craft? Why would they do that knowing that we were engaged to be married?"
Amillet didn't say anything. She didn't know what to say to her brother that would make him feel better. "Is this why they wanted me to work away from the town so I could not stop them?"
"I do not know and I do not understand, but try to forget about it.... I mean for now try to eat and not think about it please?"
Bowergaurd had appeared in the room. "The sun had set and I thought that I would check up on the two of you. The day is not something to worry about.... The night is when you have to worry." Amillet looked over at the ghost, while William just sat there not even bothering to look up at either one of them. "Two things that I have tell you two about this cottage. It is important to gaurd it to keep the evil spirits from taking over.... They can use the weapons to kill the living and that is why it is so important that you two make sure that none of those spirits get in here.... The other thing is that you two cannot leave this cottage. Well, the cemetery. Once the living set foot on the ground of the cemetery, whether day or night, they are stuck. There is a curse on this cemetery and it is important that you obey."
"What do you mean we cannot leave?" William asked, looking over at the ghost, who was next to the door.
"I am afraid that I cannot tell you." The ghost vanished without another word.
Amillet thought about Christian. She had to see him. "I have to go meet Christian."
"What?" William asked. "No. Amillet you heard him...."
It was too late; Amillet ran out of the cottage. William rushed out after her, making sure to close the door behind him. William chased Amillet out of the cemetery, when it started to grow dark for a storm and lighting struck. Then there....
It was now 2011, and a group of college kids where hanging out around an old cemetery in Salem, Massachusetts. They had heard stories about it being haunted but didn't believe it. Among the college students were three guys and three girls. One of the guys was tall and had somewhat long black hair which he wore in a ponytail. He had his arm around one of the girls. The girl was shorter than him and she had long black hair and wore glasses. They were one couple in the little group.
Another guy had short, brown hair and he held hands with a girl who had semi-long brown hair. They were another couple.
The next couple; the guy was a little bit talker than his girlfriend. He had bright blonde hair while his girl had darker blonde color hair which was long.
The three couples were cutting class. They had made their way to the cemetery.
"Anyone dares me to go in there?" the tallest guy asked.
"Yea," the brunette guy said.
"Man, I bet you don't have the guts, Thomas," the blonde boy said.
"Tommy, don't please. You know that they say this place is cursed. And besides it's really spooky.... And it's only during the day," Thomas's girlfriend had said.
"It's okay, Mia, I don't believe in curses anyways. Now, I believe that Jake's trying to challenge me. I bet I can go to that cottage and back."
"Yea, I would like to see you do that," Jake replied, kind of smiling.
"Ooo can I join this bet?" the other guy asked.
"Yea, go ahead, Mark."
"I'm with Jake. I want proof that you're stupid enough to go in there."
"Stupid? Dude, I ain't stupid."
"You two quit encouraging him. No Thomas."
"Mia, let the guys be idiots we'll stay out here and watch," the blonde girl said, kind of eyeing the three guys.
"Okay, Angela," Mia said, nodding. She still thought that it wasn't the best idea that her boyfriend had had. She felt a bad feeling about the bet the guys made. She looked over at the brunette girl and noticed that she had the same feeling. "You got a weird feeling too, Katlin?" she asked.
"Yea." Katlin nodded. "I wish the guys could think before they decide to do something."
The three girls watched as Thomas ran into the cemetery and over to the cottage then he ran back to them. He leaned against the metal railing so he could catch his breath. "Pay up you two."
"Man," Mark said as he pulled out his money as Jake did the same. They handed the money to Thomas.
A strange wind had hit them. They looked into the sky and noticed that it was growing dark. They heard the sound of thunder and see lighten hit the ground.
"Man that's so strange. It was perfectly sunny just a second ago."
"Let's go into that cottage until the storm blows over," Thomas said.
Katlin and Mia looked at each other the bad feeling was growing.
"You guys go ahead," Mark told them. "I'm going to go get something from the truck."
"Okay."
Mark walked away from the cemetery while the others made their way to the cottage.
Katlin wiped away dust from an old window to look out. She was kind of starting to worry because Mark hadn't arrived yet. She seen lighting and the sound of thunder roared, shaking the little, old cottage. So far the only thing missing was the rain. She took a deep breath.
"Don't worry, Katlin. Mark will be here," Angela told her kind of glancing at the sky. "Ooo.... Spooky weather, don't you think?"
"Yea."
The two girls noticed a shadow running toward the little house, carrying something. Katlin smiled in relief.
A moment later, Mark walked through the door with some kind of board game in his hand. "Hey, I'm here," he said walking over to a little table, placing the board game on top.
"What is it?" Thomas asked, walking out of another room followed by Jake. They went exploring to check out the little cottage.
"Come here and I'll show you. All of you."
"Man, there's no bathroom in here so if any of us need to go," Jake stated as he walked over to the table, "then we'll have to look for an outhouse or something."
Mark just looked at him. "Thanks for the info, dude, but who cares."
"What kind of lame board game do you have, Mark?" Thomas asked. He had made his way to the table and all three girls had surrounded one side, waiting to see what Mark had brought in for them to play.
Mark smiled. "This." He revealed the game to them.
Katlin and Mia backed away. They couldn't believe what Mark had brought, especially to a graveyard.
Angela dropped her mouth. "That's not a game." She looked over at Mark, shaking her head. "You better get that thing out of here."
"Awe, come girls," Jake said. "It's just a ouiga board."
"I'm with the girls on this you two," Thomas said, backing away. "Get that cursed thing out of here. Remember where we are?"
"Man you scared?" Jake asked.
"No.... But I know those things are of the devil and we'll be in big trouble when the demons come after us."
"Man, you know that's just a story.... I agree with Jake," Mark added. "I think you're scared."
"Tommy, don't listen to those two," Mia told him. She knew how much Mark and Jake liked to get her boyfriend into trouble.
"Mark, get that thing out of here," Katlin kind of yelled at him.
"Oh come on. We should be able to have some fun and besides I think that Thomas's a big sissy."
Thomas hated it when Jake and Mark always question his motives. "Fine, but one round."
"No, Tommy," Mia told him, kind of disappointed.
"You're going to listen to them?" Angela asked, getting ready to smack him.
"It's the only way to shut them up," Thomas answered.
"Well, that's a pretty stupid reason," Katlin kind of spit out.
The girls had to watch as their three idiot boyfriends, decided on who was going to go first.
Amillet woke up from a long sleep. She was actually ticked off because someone had woken her up from a deep sleep. She kind of ran through walls to get to the beginning of the cottage, screaming and yelling. "WHO WOKE ME UP FROM MY SLEEP?!"
The six college kids heard a woman around their age yelling from a back room.
The guys stopped what they were doing and rushed in front of their girlfriends. Thomas knew he shouldn't have listened to those guys.
Amillet made her way into the room, mad. She had seen the six kids in the room. "WHO WOKE ME FROM MY SLEEP?! WHO ARE YOU AND WHY HAVE YOU WOKE ME UP?!" She was furious with them.
"Angry ghost," Mark whispered to Jake and Thomas.
"Who wants to go first?"
Jake and Thomas looked at Mark. "You," they both said.
"Why me?" Mark asked, afraid.
"Because you brought that cursed thing in here," Thomas replied.
"But...."
"What? Are you chicken?"
Mark looked at Thomas. That was the first time he heard those words from his oldest friend.
"I bet you're chicken."
"Am not."
Amillet grew angrier and angrier by the minute. "Someone answer me."
"I bet you fifty bucks you can't do it."
Mark suddenly felt courageous. "I'll take you up on that bet.”
"Okay. Then go."
"Fine." Mark took a deep breath and walked over to the ghost. "Hello, I'm Mark."
"WHO WOKE ME UP?! AND SOON HE'S GOING TO WAKE UP AND HE'S NOT GOING TO BE HAPPY!!!"
Mark suddenly froze. The ghost was angry and he knew that she was going to kill him. "It was me and my two friends over there, Thomas and Jake. The girls had nothing to deal with waking you...."
Amillet kind of glanced over noticing the ouiga board. "Stupid living," she replied. "If things couldn't get any worst…. You used that devils weapon.... Throw it out.... THROW IT OUT NOW!!!"
Mark looked over at the board, confused to why she wasn't attacking him. "The ouiga board...."
"Yes get it out of my sight and because you all have pasted that gate and walked into the cemetery none of you can leave. None of you can leave...." Amillet rushed over to the window and noticed the dark, cloudy sky, hoping that they could find help.
"What's going on?" William walked out from another wall, moving his arms and cracking dead bones. He noticed the living, who were just staring at him, confused. "Oh hello. I'm William and I see that you met, Amillet."
"William, look at the cursed board that the living brought into this cottage," Amillet told him.
William looked at the board and then to the college students. "Throw it out. We don't need it hear. The evil spirits already walk around looking for living to kill. That just gives them an early wake up call. Which one of you brought this thing?" he asked, keeping eyes on the group of the living.
Everyone pointed to Mark. He dropped his head in shame. "It's mine."
"The living don't walk among the dead. The dead walk among the living." Amillet took a deep breath to release her anger. "We are the guardians of this cottage and we have to look out for you or else you're all dead."
"And none of you can leave. You leave well...."
"Well what?" Jake asked.
William looked at Jake and then to himself as if he didn't really have to say anything.
"I don't get it."
"I do," Katlin said, kind of moving to where she could see the two ghosts. "We leave we die. Right?" William and Amillet looked at each other then to Katlin with sadden eyes. They both nodded.
Amillet thought about something then looked out of the window. "It's time. I need to see Christian." "He can wait. It's been a long time, Amillet. He'll wait for you. Well, his ghost will. Right now, we have to deal with the living and keeping them protected from the restless spirits."
"Who's Christian?"
"I love him so much and I haven't seen him since the day before it happened."
"I know but you must wait."
"I'll be back." Amillet walked through the wall. William stuck his head out of the wall. "Amillet, wait 'til we help these people first...."
"I am but I'm going to look for some help."
"Okay." William stuck his head back into the room.
"Dude, you're just going to let her talk about another guy?" Mark asked. "If she were my girlfriend, I'd dump her."
William laughed at Mark. "Girlfriend? I'm her brother."
"Oh."
"Awkward," Jake sang.
"Who's Christian?" Katlin asked again.
"Amillet's husband. The last time she seen him was the day that we had started this job. That was in 1692."
"Awe," the three girls sighed.
"It would be so cute to get them together again, even though we don't really know him and we just met her," Angela said.
"Oh yes," Mia nodded.
"I totally agree," Katlin laughed.
The guys just looked over at the girls as they started to get into some girl talk.
"Look," William said, "there are a lot of other ghosts. The good spirits can come and go as they please and they can walk through the walls. The evil spirits on the other hand can't come in unless that door is open. So if you want to live leave that door shut at all times."
"But there's no bathroom in here," Jake blurted out, "how are we going to go if we have some business to attend to?"
William just looked at Jake. He was a ghost so he didn't have that problem, but he didn't know what to tell the living. "Um.... No idea."
"What about food?"
"No idea about that either.... I might be able to work something out though."
By this time, Bowergaurd had appeared into the room. He noticed the college kids and smiled at them. "Hello."
They just looked at him.
Mark just stared at the two ghosts, trying to make since of everything. Maybe it was all just a dream and he'd probably be waking up soon.... Or maybe it wasn't a dream. Him, his girlfriend, and all of his friends where stuck in a cottage.
"I'm Bowergaurd," the new ghost had introduced himself.
"I'm Thomas, that's Mark, Jake, Angela, Mia, and Katlin," Thomas replied. William didn't know any of their names until then and Mark had introduced himself and the other two guys to Amillet, but not the girls.
"It's nice to meet you, Sir Thomas," Bowergaurd said with a smile. "And the rest of you for that matter." He looked over at the cursed board and closed his eyes. It was something he didn't want to see. He knew that it meant the work of the devil was at hand. "Thomas, could you please get rid of that cursed board?"
"Yes, sir." Thomas nodded. He had respect for his elders, whether they were dead or alive. He walked over to the table and picked up the ouiga board. He made his way over to the door. He had placed his hand on the doorknob when he heard William say something.
"Try not to let any of the evil spirits in." William didn't want to sound rude or bossy, but he didn't want anything to happen to the living.
Thomas nodded. He opened the door and walked outside, closing the door behind him. It wasn't too long later that he had walked back into the cottage with empty hands. He made sure that the door was closed.
"Hm..... What are we going to do now?" William asked, looking at the kids then to Bowergaurd.
Bowergaurd placed a couple of fingers around his mouth, thinking. "I don't know. I don't know how to deal with the living it's been so long since the last time I've been around the living. The last time was the first time I met you and your sister. What year is it to the living now?"
"Twenty-eleven," Mia answered.
"Wow. That long?" William thought back to the last time him and his sister where alive. He remembered everything from that day. He closed his eyes to forget the next part that was coming next.
Amillet was wondering around the cemetery. She needed to find help because a war was coming between good and evil and she needed to find as much help as she could. So far none of the other spirits had awoken yet, which was kind of a good thing. Then she heard a shrill laugh from behind her.
"So the spirits of the cottage have finally awakened." The voice was scratchy, rough, and high. It had been a woman's voice. Amillet turned around to face a dirty, ghostly, old, poor, messy black haired woman. The woman wore a torn up, old, black dress. She had burnt marks in her dress and on herself and her hair had an ashy look to it. She was one of the women accused of witch craft and had been burnt to the stake. The living did do the right thing by burning the woman because unlike the others who were accused, she actually did do witch craft. The living thought that she would save herself from the fire, but she didn't she let it burn her to death. She knew she was going to have to burn in Hell anyways for her evil deeds, but also knew that she would get her revenge on the living for what they had done to her.
Amillet eyed the woman. She knew the witch was trouble and didn't plan on letting her win.
"Why can the good spirits go into that cottage, but us evil spirits are stuck out here?" the woman asked. She knew the answer but liked to see if Amillet would actually reply.
"Why are you up? You should be sleeping right now."
The woman sighed. "Of course, you have to answer my question with another question. Amillet, you worthless soul doomed to the life of a guardian. Why did you choose such a life? Away from your husband and your little baby boy."
Amillet closed her eyes. The flashback of when she last seen Christian played in her head. They had left the baby with Christian's mother that night.
"Such a horrible life to have.... Don't you agree?" the woman asked.
Amillet kept her eyes closed. She knew what the woman was trying to do and she wasn't going to fall for the trap.
"Don't you just hate the living for taking you away from your husband and your little baby boy?"
"Shut up, Bethaney."
"The anger's growing inside of you. I can feel it. Let it...."
Someone had smacked Bethaney with a cane from behind. Amillet looked up and noticed another woman with golden blonde hair which was placed in a bun. The woman was about Amillet's age. She dropped herself in between Bethaney and Amillet. Like Bethaney, her dress and her skin had burnt marks from when she was placed on the cross to burn to death for witch craft. Her blonde hair had ash mixed in and the bun was about ready to fall out. She looked up at Amillet and smiled.
Amillet returned the smile. She remembered the woman from a long time ago and remembered when she heard her screaming. "William's going to be happy to see you again, Lisa."
"I can't wait to see him as well. How are you two doing by the way?"
"Um.... Do I really have to answer that I mean after all we are dead?"
Lisa kind of laughed. "True."
William was kind of starting to grow impatient, waiting for his sister's return.
"Calm down, William. Amillet will be here soon. Besides you don't have to worry much about her."
Mia had made her way over to Bowergaurd and William. "How long before we can go back home? To our dorms?" she asked.
William and Bowergaurd didn't know how to answer that question. "Look, I would love to say as soon as possible," William replied, looking away, "but you six doomed yourselves when you entered the cemetery. The three guys really doomed you all when they decided to play with the devil's toy. It may seem like some kind of sick game, but it's not. It's a war for life. We're going to do the best we can to protect all of you. Okay?"
Mia nodded, then she walked over to Thomas and hugged him. She was so afraid of dying. She didn't want to die now.
Bethaney pushed herself up after the unexpected attack from Lisa. She noticed that Amillet and Lisa were too busy talking to even care if she were still there or not. She smiled, knowing that it could be her chance to attack Amillet. She whispered something to herself, holding out a hand. A ghostly sword formed in her hand and she decided to go ahead and attack.
Amillet didn't have to pay any attention to know that the witch was about to attack her. She held out her left hand and a ghost sword appeared, blocking the attack. "So that's how you want to fight? Huh?"
Bethaney pulled back, mad. She wasn't expecting Amillet to block the attack.
"Lisa, go and look for more help. I'll stay and fight this witch."
Lisa nodded. She flew off as Amillet prepared for a battle against the wicked witch.
"Give me my book of spells."
"I don't have it and if I did I would have burnt it."
"I wasn't talking to you, lost soul."
Amillet eyed the old ghost. "You want to fight, then fight. Spells don't count you evil, old witch."
"That's it. I know you can't die, but I don't care I'll find some way to destroy and your brother."
Bethaney attacked again and grew angrier when Amillet blocked the attack again. It started to sprinkle, but the thunder was sounded pretty threating. Once the roar of thunder sounded, it was as if it were a bell telling them to begin the fight because that's what they did.
Lisa roamed looking for any spirit, human or animal, which could help fight. She noticed two spirits rising out of their graves. She stopped. She didn't know if she should go over to them or not.
One was a man in his mid-thirties, and the other was a man in his early twenties. They both had light brown hair and looked to be related somehow, like father and son or uncle and nephew.
Lisa waited, trying to decide if she should talk to them.
Once both men were out of their graves, they each sat on the tombstones as if they were stools. They started talking and laughing.
Lisa swallowed and decided to walk over to them. "Excuse me?" she asked, making her way over to them.
They both stopped in the middle of their conversation and looked up at the woman.
Lisa noticed that they both had light brown eyes.
The older man's hair was short than the younger man's was. The younger man's bangs dropped over his forehead and almost covered his eyes.
"How may we help you, miss?" the older man asked.
They seemed to be nice but Lisa knew that she couldn't trust them just yet. "Um.... There's a war coming and I'm looking for spirits to help.... Would you...."
The older man sighed. "Look, miss, I'm sorry to disappoint you, but I don't want to be placed in the middle of the war."
"Sorry," the younger man replied, "me and my uncle don't want to fight."
"Oh...." Lisa made herself cry. "I see.... It's just that the guardians need help to.... To protect the cottage.... The living are in the cottage...."
"The living?" the younger man asked. Lisa nodded, pretending to wipe tears from her eyes.
The younger man looked at his uncle. "I'm sorry, uncle, but I don't want to see the living suffer."
The man's uncle looked at Lisa then to his nephew. "Okay, Logen." The older man stood up and turned his attention to Lisa. "Then it's settled.... We'll help you, miss. We don't want anything to happen to the living."
Lisa smiled. "Thank you.... Thank you so much."
William walked over to an old, dusty chair and sat down. He was getting tired of waiting for his sister to show up.
Jake walked over to a wall and leaned against it as he pulled his cell phone out to check the time. "Man, it's already 6:30 pm."
Thomas looked over at him then to his watch. "Dude, it's only 2:00.... You set the phone time to the computer time, didn't you?"
Jake thought about it. "Oh man that's right the time on the computer isn't the right time."
Angela and Katlin started laughing. "Jake, you are a moron," Angela told him
"That hurts coming from my girl."
Everyone started laughing. There was a little whimpering noise and no one knew where it was coming from.
Mia walked over to one of the rooms and opened the door. She smiled at the sight of a little, black and white, husky puppy. "Awe...." She walked over to it and kneeled down. It kind of backed away from her in fear. "Hi there, little guy." It leaned against the wall the back end of the little puppy was outside of the wall. "It's okay...."
"Awe, Rascal. What are you doing here, little guy?" William asked, making his way over to the dog. By that time everyone was in the room, looking over at the ghost puppy.
When the dog seen William, he moved into the room, wagging his little black and white tail with his tongue sticking out. He barked a couple of times before jumping up. He wanted to play.
"What happened to him?" Mia asked.
William looked at the puppy and then to the gang. "The living who owned his mother didn't want to deal with the litter of puppies she had. They decided that it would be best to drown them in the river rather than looking for good homes for them. Rascal and his brothers and his sisters suffered a terrible fate. Amillet found him. My sister loves animals, especially dogs, and she just had to keep him. He loves peo--- well spirits, seeing that everyone who’s usually here are dead." He smiled as the ghostly puppy ran out of the cottage and then run back in with a stick in his mouth.
Amillet and Bethaney kept fighting as the rain started pouring down. Light shone from each of them. Amillet was a bright gold color whereas Bethaney was more of a black color. The sound of metal ran through the grave yard as their swords hit against each other. It didn't matter if they were dead or alive but the fight had dragged out long enough that each of them where losing energy.
Bethaney swung and torn Amillet's dress which quickly fixed itself.
"Give up, Amillet," Bethaney told her.
"No...... I will not let you win."
Then they heard the sound of howling in the distance. Bethaney knew she was in trouble the spirits of warm blooded animals weren't on her side. A ghostly grey, light golden wolf attacked the witch from behind, causing Bethaney to give up. "Fine. I'll be back later." Bethaney vanished without another word.
The wolf howled as Amillet fell to the ground. "That witch."
The ghostly wolf walked over to Amillet, licking her face. Amillet laughed.
"Thank you." She stood up and Lisa had appeared with the two men.
"So far these are the only two I could find to help."
Amillet looked over at Logen and his uncle. "Hello."
"Hello," Logen replied. "I'm Logen and this is my Uncle Craven."
"It's nice to meet the both of you."
"You are one of the guardians, aren't you, young lady?" Craven asked.
"Yes, sir. I'm Amillet. My brother's inside of the cottage. We must go and let him know that we have help from two spirits, plus this wolf. He can call his pack to help us. Bethaney can't use him or other warm blooded creatures which works to our advantage. Let's get to the cottage...."
"You can't just go without me...." A voice said from behind Amillet.
She turned around to see a man in his late forties. He had lost a lot of his hair and had sky blue eyes. "Quinn?"
"Yes, my young cousin.... Did you forget me or something?" he asked.
"No, it's just been so long since I've seen you. Me and William where placed here before you came back from New Hampshire."
"Well, it's a family reunion. What's so important about protecting the cottage now anyways?"
"The living are among us.... They have done some things that they shouldn't have had because now we have a problem. The spirits are waking up before time allows them to. It's a real problem."
"Well count me in." Quinn smiled.
Rascal had been playing tug of war with the three living girls while the guys had made their way back into the small living room.
William looked out of the window, watching the rain. "Man, everything was so peaceful until you guys came and woke us up." He turned his attention to the three guys. "I don't know if you're going be able to leave."
"Because we'll die if we do.... We know you and you're sister already told us," Thomas replied.
"No you don't get it. If the spirits don't kill you, that storm will."
"Well, we're not stupid so we're not...."
"Thomas," Bowergaurd gently said, "listen to William. He knows what he's talking about. Him and Amillet had fallen victim to the storm. He knows what he's talking about so don't blow him off as if you understand. He's warning you, like I had tried to warn him and Amillet."
By this time, Amillet and the others had walked through the walls, even the wolf had followed. He howled at the ghost and the ghostly howl had a frighten sound that made the three guys jump.
"So far this is our help," Amillet said.
William hadn't noticed Lisa. "Quinn, you're going to help?"
"Of course, anything for my cousins," Quinn answered with a smile.
"William, these two are Craven and his nephew Logen."
"It's nice to meet you two."
Lisa flew through Mark and hugged onto William as tears went streaming down her face. "I thought I'd never see you again."
William smiled and returned the hug. "I'm so glad you're here."
"Let me guess, you're girlfriend?" Mark asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Lisa, these are three of the living...."
"William, where are the girls?" Amillet asked, worried.
"Don't worry, sis. They're in your little room, playing with Rascal.... I think they fell in love with him."
Amillet sighed in relief. She didn't want to have to go back outside after her battle with Bethaney.
"Amillet?" Mark asked.
"What?"
"What's the deal with wolf?"
"Warm blooded animals work with us. For the smallest mouse to the biggest bear, they work for use no matter what. He's on our side."
"Oh...."
"And Bethaney can't use them against us. It's hard to explain to the living."
The wolf howled again.
"Listen as he howls. He's calling for help from other pack members who have died along with other furry creatures which can work along our side."
The wolf listened to see if he could hear the call of others.
"The spirits of the animals can walk around any time of day where as we only roam at night."
The girls walked out from Amillet's room with Rascal running in front of them.
Lisa walked over to Amillet noticing that the girls were wearing pants and t-shirts. "It's a weird time."
"What do you mean?" Amillet asked.
"The girls are dressed like boys."
Amillet nodded. "You're right. I think we've been dead for too long." She smiled.
Lisa returned the smile.
"I think that they have a good idea though."
"What do you mean?"
"Well, maybe it's a lot easier to fight dress like a man rather than in a dress."
Katlin walked around introducing herself the ghost who have arrived. She made her way over to Amillet and Lisa.
"Maybe you're right."
An idea popped into Amillet's head. "Maybe we should change."
Angela heard what Amillet had said and was confused. "But you're dead how are you going to change into something else?"
"Yea, because you only have that outfit," Mia said, walking over to them followed by Angela. "Besides, why would you want to change in front of all these guys?"
Amillet and Lisa laughed. They were amused at the two questions. "Like this," Amillet replied. She spun around and her long, black and white, long sleeves dress had changed to a black and white long sleeves shirt and black jeans. Her hair changed as well from a bun to a poinytail.
Katlin, Angela, and Mia dropped their mouths in amazement. "Can you teach me how to do that?" Katlin asked.
Amillet and Lisa laughed again.
"Sorry you have to be dead in order for it to work," Lisa replied. "Now it's my turn." She spun around and her long, light blue, long sleeves, dress had changed to a light blue, long sleeves shirt and light blue jeans to match. Her hair had changed from a bun to just straight down. The ashes in her hair were more visible than when her hair was up in a bun.
"That's so cool," Angela said.
"I will have to say that I feel more comfortable in these than in that dress," Lisa replied, looking down at her feet noticing that her heels had changed into white sneakers.
"I agree and these shoes are much more comfortable as well." Amillet liked the feeling of the black, leather boots that had taken the place of her heels as well. "I wish they would have thought of this while we were alive."
"Oh yes. I agree with you."
"Ladies, instead of talking about clothes we have bigger things to worry about," William stated as he looked over at them. He sighed.
Amillet looked out at the window. She looked into the dark, stormy sky. The spirits weren't the only things to worry about. The storm looked to be pretty threatening as well. "I don't like this. Even though it's a storm, it looks like night's coming way to fast." She looked down at the graves. "More spirits are waking up before time. This isn't how it’s supposed to work." She quickly turned to face the living. She pointed to the three guys. "It's your fault this is happening. You had to try that cursed board. You condemned yourselves to death."
They heard scratching coming from the door.
Katlin ran to the window and looked down at the porch. "Awe it's a cute little black and gray cat." She started for the door when Lisa pushed her back. "What did you do that for? It's going to die out there."
"You going to die if you try and say it," Lisa replied.
Amillet hurried through the door and picked up the cat. She stared into its dark green, evil, cat eyes. "Get out of here, Bethaney. You're not welcomed here and you can't get in."
All six of the college students were watching through the window to see what Amillet was going to do.
"She's hurting that cat," Mia cried, worried.
The ghost didn't bother to say anything. They just waited for Amillet to get back in.
Everyone in the room watched as the cat went flying across the window. All three of the girls were angry at Amillet for throwing the poor little animal. They heard Amillet say something but couldn't understand her. Amillet made her way back into the house.
"Why did you throw that cat? You should have just let it come in. Opened the door for it," Angela yelled at Amillet.
Amillet was angry with the living. They didn't want to die, but that's what would have happened to them she let that stupid cat in. "That cat wasn't a cat. That cat was a witch. It didn't want in here to be saved from the evil spirits. It wanted in here so she could transform back into her human form and murder all of you. I don't want to here. I just saved your lives.... All of you. Got it?"
The students just stared at Amillet. They didn't know that she had just saved them. It looked as if she was trying to kill a little animal, but how were they suppose to know?
"If warm blooded animals are alive in the grave yard, most likely it's a witch, trying to break in," William replied. He moved from a wall to a window. "That's why we didn't want you to have that board in here. Thomas, what did you do with it when you left it outside?"
"I just kind of threw it. It was too heavy so it didn't go too far from here."
"He got rid of it like you asked, what's the problem now?" Mark asked.
"It has to be destroyed," Bowergaurd answered, "not just thrown."
"Craven, can you and your nephew go and see if you can destroy it, we can't have it around much longer?" William asked.
"Of course, sir," Craven answered. "Come on, Logen." He held out his right hand and a golden ghostly sword formed in it.
Logen did the same.
"Before, the evil spirits are much stronger than we are," Bowergaurd told them.
Craven and Logen nodded then vanished.
"Now that was cool," Jake said in amazement.
The wolf started howling again. Then the sounds of more wolves were getting closer.
"Go, boy, get your pack and the other animals.... Come back with them as soon as possible," Amillet told the wolf.
The wolf stood up and ran out of the wall as if he understood what he was told.
"Well, if we can't get other spirits from the graveyard, then we can still count on the animals to help," Lisa said, looking out of the window.
"Yes," William replied, "but right now we need to prepare for battle." He turned his attention to the three guys. "Jake, Mark, Thomas, the three of you must make sure that nothing happens. None of the six of you are to leave, when we're gone. If you any of you feel that you're in trouble," he told them, "there are weapons that can fight against the evil spirits in that box." He pointed to an old wooden toy box. "But that's only if, and if you feel that the evil spirits are going to be trying to get in here, then use the weapons and quickly get out and close the door. They can't get in here at all. Do I make myself clear?"
"Yea," all three of the guys answered.
Bethaney stopped at the far end of the cemetery. It was much darker and an eerie feeling crept around the area. The ghost was angry that Amillet had ruined her evil, little plan on getting into the cottage. It was time for her to get some help of her own. "Ghostly spirits of the Earth rise from the grave," she whispered in a low, scratchy voice. She waited for them to climb out of their graves.
A spirit of an old man with droopy green eyes popped his head out of an old, wimpy, willow which looked to be falling down. The ghostly old man looked tired. "What's going on? I was sleeping." The old man was very grumpy and just wanted to go back to sleep.
"I will tell you when the others wake up," Bethaney replied, kind of rudely.
The old man just eyed the witch. "I don't see what was so important that you have to wake us up. I've been dead for over 300 years.... I don't care about anything else but staying dead and by that I mean a sleep in my grave."
"Would you shut up? If you're so tired, then go back to bed."
"I would," the old man replied, "but you woke me up."
Bethaney closed her eyes, angry. She couldn't believe it. The first spirit who could help and he has to talk back. How rude was that?
William walked over to a window on the far right. He looked at the sky and then to the graves. "We should be able to get more help, but it all depends on who all Bethaney has working for her."
Amillet stood by William, also looking out of the window. "I agree.... William," she whispered to her brother, “I agree with you that we all need to fight, but I still think that we're going to need someone to stay and keep an eye on these kids."
William looked over at Amillet. He heard the worry in her voice as she spoke.
"I don't think that it's such a smart idea to leave them by themselves. They're so naive.... They were going to let danger walk right in. I think that...."
"I know you're worried, but I think that they understand now.... About the danger around this little cottage.... I know what I'm doing and I have faith in them."
Lisa was looking out of the window on the left side of the room. "I don't like that rain or that sky. It's more trouble for us."
Thomas walked over to William and Amillet. He wanted to know more about the trouble that they had put themselves in. "Can one of you tell me about what had happened about the stormed? How it killed you two?"
"It was...." Amillet looked into Thomas's eyes and she wanted to cry. There was something about them which had made her feel like she'd seen them somewhere before. He kind of resembled someone she had once known. "You look just like him."
Thomas was confused. He had no idea who the ghost was talking about.
"You.... My baby.... My son...." Amillet had broken down into tears. It was the first time she had thought back to when she was alive.
"You're son?"
"Amillet, he's not your son.... We're from an earlier time period.... He can't be...."
"I know, but he looks like him.... I never got to see my baby grow up...."
"Um.... I can act like your son if you want me too."
Amillet closed her eyes. Tears crawled down her cheeks. "No.... He's gone.... Along with his father."
Bowergaurd moved out of the cottage then arrived back in.... A few ghostly squirrels had followed him. Each squirrel carried an acorn with them.
"Awe.... Squirrels...." Mia walked over to them and sat down on the ground. "They're cute."
"The animals are funny," Bowergaurd smiled. "They like to follow people dead or alive. These four little guys are going to help us."
They heard ghostly howls from the outside. Three or four different wolves howled from all around the cemetery.
Bethaney grew angrier at the sounds of the wolves. She knew that met more trouble for her. "Stupid animals."
"You were a stupid cat," another woman said from behind her.
She turned to see who it was. The woman looked like her but a few years younger. She had a ring around her neck for where she had been hung for witch craft. "Of course, Courtney, I could use your help."
"I don't know, Bethaney. I believe that the last time I tried to help you, I wound up hanging from a tree." Bethaney shook her head. "You didn't have to deal with flames ruining your dress or hair. I would of rather have been hung then burnt."
"Why are you two always arguing?" a third woman asked. She also looked like Bethaney, but a few years older. She wasn't hung or burnt, but she had been drawn.
"Erika."
"As the eldest sister, I think that you two should make up and then plan to destroy that cottage; because that's the only way any of us are going to get in there."
"Yea, by the way, Bethaney, people don't like cats anymore," Courtney told her sister.
"No one asked you."
Lisa sat on chair in a little bed room, thinking.
Amillet walked in followed by William. "Any ideas?" she asked.
Lisa looked over at them. "Not yet.... Did any of you think of something?"
"No.... Still thinking. I have a bad feeling that Bethaney's going to try and get her two sisters involved."
"I agree.... They're bad news by themselves but worst once they all get together."
"We'll stop them and save the living, you two," William had jumped in.
Animals of all kinds started walking into the room packs of wolves, black bears, birds, sheep, mice, rats, etc. It was as if the little cottage had changed into a ghost zoo.
"This is good news for us," Amillet said as she watched the animals walk in.
"Wow.... Good thing we're all dead because this cottage would be filled to its weigh compassidy," William laughed.
The two girls couldn't help but laugh at his words.
"We better start getting out there," Amillet told William.
"Yea." William turned toward Quinn and Logen. "You two come with us along with the animals." He looked over at Lisa, Bowergaurd, and Craven. "You three stay here. One of us will come back to get you three."
They all nodded in agreement. Logen and Quinn left, followed by the animals. Amillet and William where about to leave when Thomas stopped them.
"Before you two go can you tell us what's so dangerous about the storm? You keep saying that we put ourselves in danger, and besides the ghost who want to kill us, we have to worry about the storm too.... What's so dangerous about it? What happened to the both of you?" Thomas asked.
Amillet looked over at William. "They do have a right to know. We didn't know what would happen to us, even though Bowergaurd warned us.... Well, I didn't know.... You were just trying to stop me."
William nodded. "Well, it was a normal night.... Except I was just depressed because I had lost the love of my life early that morning and I couldn't do anything to save her because we were here too far away from the town to get to her in time...." He looked at Lisa. "I'm so sorry.... I didn't know they had planned to do that to you. It was a horrible thing."
"I forgive you," Lisa replied with a smile. "I know you would have done something if you could of."
"Blah, blah, blah, I love you, you love me...." Angela smacked Jake.
"Let them talk.... Sorry about him, he's incentive. Please continue," Angela said.
"Sorry for going off topic," William replied. "Anyways, it was about the time for the spirits to start waking up. Bowergaurd had come into the cottage and chatted with us when he warned us about how we couldn't leave the cemetery because something bad would happen. I didn't want to know what he meant, but I didn't want to find out then...."
"I had planned to meet with my husband," Amillet said, cutting off William, "at the same place, same time. I didn't listen to Bowergaurd's warning; I just wanted to see Christian so bad.... I had to go a whole night and day without seeing him and all I wanted to do was run into his arms and hug him.... William tried to stop me...." She moved over to the window next to the door and looked outside. The whole night played back in her head. "It wasn't dark, but the sky was changing. It was the pink and purple sky when it was changing from afternoon to evening.... As soon as I ran pasted the gate the sky quickly changed into the cloudy, spooky, thunder storm like it is now.... I was about to the tree on the right side of the gate...."
"Your right or the right from the gate where my car is parked?" Mark asked.
"Why do our boyfriends have to be the two idiots?" Katlin whispered to Angela.
"I don't know, but Mia's lucky that Thomas is much smarter than those two put together," Angela replied. "Except when he's hanging out with Mark and Jake."
"I agree."
"My right," Amillet said, still looking out of the window. "William wasn't far behind me.... That's when I felt a sharp pain in my left leg.... I couldn't run anymore. I looked over at William and he was lying on the ground in more pain than me...."
"I heard Amillet scream and as I looked over at Amillet lightening had struck her three times. Once on her left foot, once on her right hand, and once on the top of her head. It was the strangest thing.... Then I watched as she took her last breath.... The same thing had happened too then I finally took my last breath.... Then I wake up to hear my sister yelling at people.... I come in here and there you six are.... Around the same age we were when we died.... Believe it or not.... This is a serious matter and it means life or death.... Even if we stop the other spirits from killing you six.... We can't stop that storm and you'll be lucky to get out of here alive."
"I think that they should all be come the new guardians of the living," Bowergaurd stated. "I don't know why I didn't think about it before.... Oh never mind.... It has to deal with the evil spirits trying to steal the weapons from them."
"Wait; tell us what you were going to say...." Thomas wanted to know what the old man had to say.
"Sorry, kid, but I don't know how well it'll work."
Bowergaurd stood next to the door, thinking. He kept looking around as if he had a bad feeling about something. He looked over at Lisa. "Lisa, get outside."
"But they told us not to leave yet.... Not until they come to get us," Lisa replied.
"I know, but I have a bad feeling that they're going to need one of us real soon."
"What do you mean?"
Bowergaurd closed his eyes. "I have a bad feeling that Bethaney's having a family ruin with her two sisters."
"Not until they come for us. I can't leave now. I'm going to wait with you two."
Amillet, William, Quinn, and Logen stood in the middle of the cemetery. All of the ghost had awakened. Some of them were on their side and others were against them. It was hard for them to tell who they could trust and who they couldn't trust.
They looked around the graveyard. Fog was starting to from.
"The living doesn’t stand a chance here," Amillet told the three guys shaking her head. "They're going to die and we wouldn't be able to stop it...."
"Amillet," Quinn replied, "don't speak like that. That gives the evil spirits a better chance at breaking into the cottage and killing the living.... From the six in the cottage to people on the other side of the world. I know we can win."
"That's not it." Amillet looked into the sky. "We can win this war but when the six in the cottage step out of that gate.... Then the storm will kill them and that's not...."
They heard someone laughing behind them. They turned to face Bethaney.
"You will not win this."
"Actually, me and my two sisters are going to win no matter what. We know about the six kids in that cottage. The living are among us. Revenge for what they did to us will be sweet."
"They didn't do anything to you," William replied.
"What do you mean they didn't do anything to us? They're alive aren't they while we're dead...."
"It's a different time period," Amillet told Bethaney.
"Ah that doesn't mean anything.... They're going to get what they deserve thanks to their ancestors.... You know who's great-great-great-so on and so forth grandchild that boy is in there and you know the one I'm talking about, Amillet.... I mean after all he does remind you of your son doesn't he."
"What?" Amillet thought about who she had seen when she looked at Thomas and thought about her son.
"You know what I'm talking about. I mean after all you his grandmother of course I'm not going to try to figure out how many greats it takes to get to grandmother but you get the picture."
Amillet looked back at the cottage. She didn't know whether or not she should believe the wicked witch or not.
"Quit trying to explain to the guardian and just destroy her, Bethaney," a voice had said from out of nowhere.
Bethaney balled up her fist, mad. "I'm trying to make a point, Courtney."
"Well you're taking forever." Courtney had appeared out of nowhere. Her and Bethaney started arguing with one another while the two guardians, Quinn, and Logen just stared at them, confused.
"ENOUGH!" Erika exclaimed as she moved her way in between her two sisters. "You two are worse than children."
"Well she started it," Bethaney stated.
"Because she was just talking instead of doing what we had planned."
"I swear if I could kill the both of you then I would."
Thomas walked over to the window and couldn't see anything but fog. "Man it's so foggy out there.... I want to know what's happening."
Jake raised his hand.
"What, Jake?" Mia asked.
"I'm hungry.... Who wants pizza? I'm buying."
"I do," Mark replied.
Katlin shook her head as Angela smacked her forehead.
"Do they not pay attention to anything?" Katlin asked.
"No.... we could die today, but all they're worried about is food."
"Oh and don't forget the bathroom."
"Um.... I don't think that we can get any...." Mia started to say as Jake pulled out his cell phone.
Then Jake thought about something. "Wait.... I can't cause my phone died.... Man." He sighed. "Sorry, guys but we're not going to have anything to eat.... Wait I can order some Chinese."
Angela kind of bowed her head in embarrassment. "Of course, out of the two idiots, I'm dating the moron."
Katlin patted Angela's back. "It's okay. I'll pray for ya."
"Thanks."
It was time and all of the dead where roaming the cemetery. They noticed different kinds of lights shimmering in the rain and went to see what was going on. All kinds of spirits from men, woman, and children gathered around the three dead witches and the ghostly guardians, plus the two who were working with the guardians.
"The spirits are all awake now," Quinn said, pointing out the obvious. "They want to see this fight."
"Hmm.... But why?" Logen asked, looking around at the gathering spirits. He found it to be odd that they would all gather for any fight.
"So who am I going to fight first?" Bethaney asked, somewhat sarcastic.
"Well, Amillet," William asked, "do you think that we should let Quinn or Logen fight first? That way we can save our energy."
Amillet looked over at the three witches. "It depends.... If the other two fight then three of us will have to fight and I don't want to go back to get help just yet."
"I agree." William turned his attention to the three witches. "How many are to fight in this round?"
"Only one," Bethaney replied.
"But I want to fight you, cutie," Courtney answered, appearing right in front of William's face.
William kind of backed away, feeling a bit uncomfortable. "Ok-ay."
Amillet kind of turned her head away so she could laugh to herself. She quickly went back to business. "Logen, you can fight Bethaney.... But be careful.... I fought her earlier today and she will drain your energy if you're not careful."
"Cool.... I get to go first." Logen took a few steps toward the wicked, old witch. "Ready to fight."
"Of course."
It wasn't long before their swords were clinging against each other as they blocked and attacked one another.
"Boy, time flies," Lisa said, watching out of the window.
"See anything?" Craven asked.
"It's hard to tell, but I think that the fight has started."
"Ooo a fight can we watch?" Jake asked as him and Mark made their way to the window.
"You can, but it's hard to see what's going on."
"Man too bad we don't have a TV," Mark said.
"TV? What's a TV?" Lisa asked, confused.
"It's a box with a screen and you can flip through channels."
"A box with a what and you can flip through what?"
Mark and Jake looked at Lisa. They could see that she was confused and that Bowergaurd and Craven were confused as well.
"Well, it's hard to explain to people who aren't from our time period."
Lisa just stared at them still pretty confused.
"Sorry about our boyfriends," Angela had stated.
"Yea they haven't got it into their heads yet that you three are from the 1600s," Katlin agreed.
Thomas made his way over to the toy box and bent down. He wanted to find out what kind of weapons were hiding inside.
"I wouldn't open that box unless needed to if I were you." Bowergaurd stood behind Thomas. Thomas looked at the ghost. "What's in there exactly?"
"Weapons."
"I know that, but what kind of weapons?"
"Weapons that can kill the living and destroy the dead. Really, only the guardians are able to use the weapons, but in cases like this then others who aren't the guardians are to use the weapons. The weapons usually only kill the living if the carrier isn't a guardian, but like I said, it's different in cases like this." Bowergaurd looked down at Thomas. "There's something about you, kid. I think it was met for you to be here.... I don't know why though, but in time everything will come out."
Thomas shook his head. He couldn’t deal with waiting any more. “We need to do something…. Something besides waiting around here.”
Craven and Bowergaurd looked at each other. Craven turned his attention to Thomas. “What are you thinking, kid?”
“I’m thinking…. We need to fight.” Thomas walked over to the chest and went to open it.
“No,” Bowergaurd objected.
“Tommy, listen to him,” Mia spoke.
Thomas turned toward them. “Look, they’re fighting to protect us…. And I believe that we should at least help….”
“It’s dangerous for you,” Lisa replied.
Thomas shook his head. “It’s our fault that we’re here…. It’s our fault that you guys have to fight to keep us alive…. I want to do something to help.”
“You can help by staying out of the way,” Bowergaurd replied.
Logen swung his sword at Bethaney as she dodged his attack.
Erika did some kind of hand motion and a big black book appeared in her hands. She opened it and started reading a spell, mumbling it.
Amillet and William caught onto the sisters’ plan.
“LOGEN! IT’S A TRAP!” William called to him.
Just as soon as William spoke, ghostly vines worked their way out of the ground and locked around Logen’s limbs. Logen dropped his sword which had vanished in mid-air.
By this time, Amillet, William, and Quinn were ready to attack.
Bethaney laughed, evilly. “You’re such a cute, charming, young man, but foolish.” She turned her attention to the others. “None of you can stop us…. Dead or alive…. We will prevail….” She continued to laugh.
A ghostly wolf attacked the witch, biting her arm.
“Get off of me, you stupid mutt.” Bethaney threw her arm back, sending the wolf flying.
“Let him go,” Amillet said.
“No,” Erika replied. “Let this be a warning to all of you…. No one can stop us….” She walked over to Amillet and William. “No one…. Not even you two…. The guardians…. Ha…. Without the help of black magic, you will never stop us.”
“We don’t need magic,” William replied.
“Oh but that’s where you’re mistaken.” Erika vanished, along with her two younger sisters and they’re followers, taking Logen as a prisoner.
Quinn shook his head. “This is bad, you two. How are we going to stop them?”
Amillet closed her eyes. “I don’t know.” She opened them and looked at her cousin and brother. “I don’t know…. And now they have Logen as a prisoner.”
“Prisoner?” William asked. “I have a bad feeling that they’re going to do something to use him against us.”
“Like what?”
“Mark him with the death mark…. You know the evil one….”
Amillet’s eyes grew wide as she realized what he had meant.
William nodded.
Quinn looked at them, confused. “What is that?”
“Something that only the evil can place on dead spirits,” William said.
“We might have to fight him,” Amillet replied. “We lost an ally.”
Quinn stood, processing what they had told them.
Thomas went to open the chest but a cold dead hand stopped him.
“At least wait,” Bowergaurd’s voice came from behind him.
“How long?” Thomas asked.
“I don’t know, but I’m sure that the time will come…. Just be patient.”
“Okay.”
Amillet, William, and Quinn arrived back into the little cottage. Each of them had a disappointed look on their faces.
“Where’s Logen?” Craven asked.
“They took him,” William replied.
“What?”
“The witches…. The three witches…. They took him….”
“No,” Craven said, shocked. He shook his head. “No…. No…. It’s not true….” He stuck his head out of a wall, searching for his nephew. “He’s coming back…. He’s coming back….”
Quinn placed a hand on Craven’s shoulder. “No, he’s not coming.”
“This…. This isn’t right…. We need to go get him….”
Amillet dropped her head and closed her eyes.
“Sorry, Craven,” William replied.
Craven sat out on the porch, thinking and upset.
Amillet stepped outside to see if he was going to be alright. The living believe that the ghost had emotions and feelings. They had figured that the dead lost all human capabilities after they had died. “How you doing out here, Craven?”
“Confused.”
Amillet looked at the ground.
“Why did they have to take Logen?”
“I don’t know.”
“He was a good kid. Now they’ll turn him into a puppet. They’ll have control over him.”
“I’m sorry.”
“It’s not your fault.”
Thomas stood, staring out of the window. “There’s no way to leave. We’re going to die here. Why can’t we just let death take us now?”
William walked over to Thomas. “Because live is worth fighting for no matter how dangerous it might be. Besides, think of your friends…. Your girlfriend. Don’t give up the fight just yet. Believe me, the time will come for you, whether it seems like it or not.”
“Easy for you to say…. You’re already gone.”
“It’s because of my death I know what I’m talking about.”
Thomas looked at William.
“Besides, my sister wouldn’t want to loose you just yet. I think somehow it was meant for you to come here. All of you are here for some reason. It’s fate.”
“What do you mean?”
“You’ll find out.”
Bethaney stood, laughing at Logen. “Another lost soul.”
Erika flipped through the spell book. She listened as her sister spoke.
“You’re not bad looking at all, boy.”
Logen eyed Bethaney.
“Stop talking and give him the mark already,” Courtney said, bored out of her mind.
“Let me have my fun. It’s been a long time since I’ve met a cute, heroic swordsmen.” Bethaney chuckled.
“He is cute but this is boring.”
Bethaney touched Logen’s hair line and kind of brushed it back. “Beautiful locks of hair to go with that handsome face of yours.”
Logen jerked his head back. “Just kill me…. I know you have a spell to kill the dead so just get it over with because I am tired of listening to you…. You ugly old witch.”
Bethaney moved her hand, disguised with Logen’s words. “Well then. I was being nice to you but whatever now. Besides, we’re not going to kill you, my little pet.”
“Why not?”
“Because my sisters and I have a better plan…. We’re going to use you against those dumb guardians.”
“What do you mean?”
“What do think I mean?”
“I will not fight them.”
“I know that’s why we’re going to give you the mark of the dead.” Bethaney started chuckling again and this time her two sisters had joined in.
Logen stared at them, helplessly.
Amillet walked back into the cottage. “It’s almost time.”
Bowergaurd and William nodded.
“What are we going to do with the kids?” Lisa asked.
“I don’t know,” Amillet replied.
“Let us fight,” Thomas said.
“No, we can’t---“
“Let us…. It’s our fault for this whole mess…. We need to do something about it…. Mark, Jake, and I will fight…. The girls can stay here.”
“No---“
“Please?”
“Bowergaurd, stay here with them. It’s time,” Amillet told everyone.
Bowergaurd nodded as he watched the other ghost leave.
Thomas stood at the window, wishing he could be out there fighting too.
“It’s for the best,” Bowergaurd spoke, softly.
“For the best?” Thomas turned his attention toward the ghost. “It’s our fault for this whole mess.”
“Some of it, yes…. But most of it has been going on for centuries…. This isn’t your fight so back down.”
“Back down?” Thomas shook his head. “No…. It’s not right.”
Logen traveled through the rain. Dark flames of light shone around his ghostly body. He had a black mark above his head. His eyes had turned to black sockets of nothingness. He carried a black flaming sword in his right hand, searching for the others.
Craven and William noticed a figure walking in the distance. As the figure drew closer, Craven recognized him. “LOGEN!” he shouted as he rushed over to him.
Logen stared into the dark cemetery. He hadn’t noticed Craven or William in the area. He just kept moving.
“Logen, it’s me. Your Uncle.”
Logen ignored Craven as he walked past him.
“Logen?”
“It’s too late, Craven,” William told them. “The witches changed him.”
Logen suddenly stopped as if William’s words meant something. He turned to face Craven and William. He held up his sword and readied it in his hand.
“We have to fight him.”
“I can’t, he’s family.”
“Then I will.” William held out his hand as a golden ghostly sword appeared in his hand.
Logen swung his sword and William blocked the attack.
“If it’s a fight you want then it’s a fight you’ll get.”
Logen swung again and William blocked the attack.
“Is that the best you’ve got?”
Logen swung for a third time and William went to block but it was too late. Logen had hit William’s shoulder, cutting through him like paper.
William looked at his shoulder then to Logen. “That’s it,” he said as the wound healed itself. He brought his sword up into the air and sliced into Logen’s head. He moved the sword away and watched as Logen’s head glued back together.
Amillet, Lisa, and Quinn heard the sword fighting from a distance. They turned toward the sound. “Sounds like William and Craven found a target,” Quinn said.
“I wish we could find out who it is,” Amillet said.
“It’s probably Logen because the witches use tricks when fighting and all I hear is swords,” Lisa replied.
Amillet nodded.
Evil laughing came from behind them. “Seeing the three of you all confused makes me laugh…. Hahaha,” the witch’s voice came from behind them.
The three of them turned to face Bethaney who was holding a sword.
“What? Cat got your tongue?”
“What did you do to Logen?” Amillet asked, knowing the answer.
“I think you already know.”
“Where are your sisters?”
“Around here somewhere…. We all decided to split up.”
“Why?”
“Because I was getting annoyed with them…. That’s why.”
Amillet glanced around consciously, knowing it could be some kind of trick.
“Don’t believe me?”
“What do you think?”
“Well, believe it.” Bethaney’s sword appeared in her hand. “I want to fight you again, guardian.”
“Fine.” Amillet held out her hand as her sword appeared.
“Be careful, Amillet,” Lisa said.
“Yea, remember what happened to Logen,” Quinn agreed.
Amillet nodded as she prepared herself for battle.
William sent his sword wielding into Logen’s heart. Logen let out a ghostly scream than vanished.
“Did you destroy him?” Craven asked, worried.
“No, this sword isn’t made for that. He’ll be back but for right now I guess he needs to train.” William turned to face Craven. “Don’t worry; I don’t plan on destroying your nephew. We need to destroy that book the witches have though. It’ll break the spell and Logen would be back to normal.”
Craven sighed in relief. “Are we ever going to get those kids out of here safely?”
William shrugged. “I don’t know. We’ll have to see how things go.”
Craven nodded.
Amillet swung her sword into Bethaney’s blade. Bethaney laughed. “You’ll have to do better than that, guardian. Hehehehe.”
Quinn noticed the ghostly veins where appearing from the ground. “AMILLET! THE VEINS!”
Amillet jumped into the air and watched the veins move closer and closer. She slashed into the veins as they reached for her legs.
Quinn and Lisa prepared themselves and started cutting through the veins with their ghostly swords.
Bethaney stood by and watched as they fought.
Thomas was tired of waiting to see what was going to happen. He moved over to the old wooden toy box and went to open it.
“Wait for the---“ Bowergaurd began.
“No…. I’m done waiting,” Thomas replied as he opened the box.
Tons of swords of all kinds filled the box. There was a slim, silver, samurai sword. There were a couple of long silvery swords knights carried. One sword caught Thomas’s attention. It had a long, round, sharp blade and the handle looked to be made of pure gold.
Thomas went to reach for it. He was in awe by the beauty of the sword.
“Remember there’s no guarantee that it will work for you…. You have to be a guardian for it to really do you any good,” Bowergaurd told the young man.
Thomas ignored him and picked up the sword. Brass armor built itself around Thomas as he held the sword.
Everyone watched in amazement as the armor formed.
Thomas was too busy checking out the sword as the brass armor shielded his arms, legs, head, front and back. A gold light shone off of the armor.
“I don’t believe it,” Bowergaurd whispered to himself, in amazement.
“Thomas?” Mia asked, shocked.
Thomas looked around at everyone. “What?” he asked, confused.
“Child, you’ve been chosen to guard this cottage from evil…. You’re a guardian,” Bowergaurd said.
Thomas looked down and noticed the ghostly armor around his body. He looked back at Bowergaurd. “Will this protect me?”
Bowergaurd nodded.
“Okay. Then I’m going to help the ghost. Jake and Mark, stay here with the girls and help Bowergaurd. I’ll be back.” Thomas went to the door and Mia grabbed his left arm, tears filled her eyes.
“Please be careful.” She wanted to cry at the thought of her boyfriend fighting ghost, knowing that he might not survive.
“I’ll be fine.” He kissed her forehead.
Amillet landed on the ground and helped Quinn and Lisa fight off the ghostly plants. William and Craven had arrived. They both pulled out there swords and started fighting as well.
“Thanks for the help,” Amillet said as she backed up into William.
“No problem,” William replied. “I was fighting Logen but he vanished.”
“Well, that’s good cause we could us the help.”
Bethaney moved one of her hands and a vine followed her motion and worked up Amillet’s leg wrapping around as it made it’s way up her body and wrapped around her neck.
“AAAHHH!” Amillet let out a ghostly scream.
“HANG ON, AMILLET!” William shouted as he cut the vein to release his sister.
More ghostly veins arrived out of the ground as the ghost kept fighting. Bethaney stood up, making hand motions which controlled the veins.
Eventually, the ghostly heroes and heroines were trapped by Bethaney’s plants.
“Try to get out of this,” Bethaney said, laughing evilly.
“You can’t keep us trapped forever, Bethaney,” Amillet spoke, fighting off the veins.
“Really? Well, it sure looks like I’m winning.” The witch let out an eerie laugh that filled the air. “I have the upper hand.”
“Not anymore,” Thomas said as he jumped into action.
Bethaney turned her attention toward the mortal. Her eyes grew wide at the sight of his armor. “No.”
Thomas took his ghostly sword and cut through the ghostly veins, destroying them.
Bethaney backed away from the young adult.
Amillet looked at Thomas, confused. “You’re one of us?”
Thomas nodded.
“Alright.” William jumped out of the ghostly cage of broken veins. “Thank you, Thomas.” He turned his attention toward Bethaney. He eyed her. “You’re going down.”
“I’ll take it from here.” Thomas swung the sword as if he had been trained by a knight.
Bethaney tried her best to fight the living teenager off but failed.
When Thomas’s blade hit Bethaney’s sword, Bethaney’s sword dissolved into nothing.
Bethaney backed away. She knew that the sword could destroy the dead. It was created to kill and destroy any spirits that fought against it.
Thomas stood face to face with the ghostly witch.
Amillet floated over toward Thomas and stood next to him. “That sword is death to any spirit which fights against it,” she whispered to him. “Kill her now.”
Thomas looked at Amillet and nodded. He swung the sword and the blade went through Bethaney’s ghostly skin.
Bethaney let out a ghostly scream which filled the air. Her ghostly body transformed into bones which fell to the ground.
Thomas picked up a bone which vanished in his hand. “What happened?”
“She’s gone. She can’t ever come back. Not even her sisters can bring her back. You’ve destroyed her.”
Thomas looked at toward the rest of cemetery. The rain continued to hit the ground. “Are we safe?”
“No,” William replied. “Not yet. Her two sisters are still out there and there’s no telling what the storm will do to you and your friends.”
“I’m up for another fight.”
“For now you must rest,” Amillet told him. “A living guardian can’t last long in a battle with a spirit no matter the outcome. Come on, let’s get back to the cottage.”
Thomas nodded.
Erika stood, looking down at where Bethaney’s bones had fallen. She shook her head. “Tsk, tsk, tsk. She should have known better.”
“I knew this would happen,” Courtney said as she looked the ground. “I hope your enjoying yourself down there, Bethaney.”
“Have respect for our fallen sister.”
“Respect? HA! She doesn’t deserve it. I bet I would have won the fight against that guardian.”
Erika eyed Courtney. “Not with that attitude. You and Bethaney are arrogant. You’ll be the next one to go if you’re not careful, Courtney.”
Courtney kind of laughed. “Yea right. I’m much more smarter than she was look at what happened to her…. I would never be that dumb.”
“It’s not about being smart or dumb it’s about the both of you being arrogant. Arrogance gets you nowhere in life but death.” Erika shook her head. “Don’t blame me for your troubles when you’re next because you’re just as bad as Bethaney was.”
Courtney stared at Erika. She didn’t like the fact that her sister was doubting her.
Thomas placed the sword on the table inside of the cottage and the ghostly armor vanished.
Mia ran over to him and wrapped him up in a hug. “I was so worried about you.”
Thomas smiled. “I’m fine. Didn’t even get a little scratch.”
“Don’t celebrate just yet,” Amillet said as she looked out of the window.
William did the same. “We still have the other two to worry about and that storm…. It’s getting worse.”
“Yea. You kids must be careful but for now you can rest,” Bowergaurd told them.
“Yes rest,” Lisa agreed. “Especially Thomas. A good, strong guardian is needed to fight and that can’t happen if the guardian is exhausted.”
“That’s great and all but he needs food,” Jake said. “And he’s going to need to go to the bathroom sooner or later as well… As do we all.”
Angela smacked Jake in the back of the head. “Moron.”
“He does have a point,” Craven agreed.
“We’ll figure something out for you kids,” Bowergaurd said.
Erika looked around and stopped when she was a good distance away from the cottage. She eyed it.
Courtney wasn’t far behind her. “Have they won?”
“Just this round but it’s not over yet,” Erika answered.
Amillet and William appeared outside on the porch of the cottage, looking around. “The war is just starting,” Amillet said.
“We’ll stop them,” William replied. “And now we have another guardian to help fight.”
The End
