Hi I am hope. I am a dog. My lovely human is Lizze. She has kidney cancer. Her dad left her once she was born. Her mom passed away a few years ago. She has not yet been adopted, but I hope she will be. She found me a few years back when I was begging for food from her mom. She loved me ever since. The doctors have been treating her cancer for two years. The doctors are so nice to let me inside to stay with Lizzie. Now that you know a lot about Lizzie and me, let's start the book.
"Hope!" Lizzie yelled. I came over and jumped on the bed she was on. "Hey buddy. Where have you been?" I licked her face and lightly jumped on her chest. She smiled and said "Hey stop that." Dr. Ron came in holding a cotton ball, alcohol, and a shot. "Lizzie it's time for you daily shot. I know it's not the best part of your day, but I have a surprise for you after." She didn't scream when she got the shot because she got used to it over the years. "What's the surprise can I see can I see!" She cried in excitement. Dr. Ron picked her up and brought her to a man and a woman holding each other's hands. "Oh honey. I think that's her!" She said very happily. "I am Kristie and this is my husband, George." The husband looked at Lizze and smiled. "Nice to meet you. We can't wait to adopt you." Lizzie looked very happy and hugged George and Kristie. "I am Lizzie and this I'm dog, Hope." The couple looked at her and said "We live in a n apartment. We don't have much money. When we have enough money we will adopt you and we will move to a house." Lizzie's smile faded a little. "Oh well come back soon please. Please adopt me soon please." They hugged her and left. Lizzie went back into her room and cried. I jumped on her and licked her face. She didn't smile. Dr. Ron came in and checked her weight. She was 42 pounds. He checked her temperature. She had a fever of 105. She was weak and very light. She payed down and she slowly fell asleep. Later in the night she woke up. She saw me one her bed and let me. "Do you ever wander what it feels like to have a family? To not have ccer? I do. That's all I dream about. I only wake up because sometimes I think it's real." I looked at her trying to say I am your family, but of course she didn't understand. She stood up and walked around the hallways of the Hospital. She looked Inside one door and she a little three year old boy, sleeping with a teddy bear. He looked like he had a fever. She went back in her room and I jumped back on her bed. In the morning Dr. Ron came in for her daily shots. "I can't wait for you to get better. Then you can go home with your family." He said. "I don't have a home nor a family. I'll never get better and you know that." Lizzie said. "Lizzie, if I knew you were never going to get better, I would never give you shots. You deserve a family and that's what you will get." He hugged her and later gave her the shot. I could sense that she was sad about not getting adopted though she tried not to cry. I licked her face and this time she smiled. Dr. Nicole came in and gave Lizzie water, apple sauce, a banana, and two vitamin gummies. She said thank you and ate it all. Thst was normally her breakfast. The last thing she would always eat were the vitamins. She loved them. Dr. Ron and Dr. Nicole left the room so, it was just Lizzie and I. She pet me and told me about the plces her and her mom when. "When I was about four, my mom and I went to a place called London. It was cold and it was lightly snowing. I can still remember the day when we first gor there. My grandma lived in London so she let us in her house. My mother and I went in the front yard and we saw a bird. It kept coming closer and closer until it touched my hand. My mom pet it and a few minutes later, it flew away. Every time we went to the front yard, the bird was there. One day my mom caught it a kept it a s a pet. We loved that bird. Sometimes I would let him go outside to fly and he would always come back. I hope my mom will come back." A tear fell from her eye and soon came two tears. She layed on my and pet my golden fur. I layed there for about a hour or so until she stopped crying. I lifted my head as I smelt a new scent. It smelt like dog treats and purfume. Soon a woman walked in and saw Lizzie. She walked to her and said, "I am Sarah. I am new and I am a nurse. I heard you have cancer so I got you this. She handed her a teddy bear and I sniffed it. She walked out and Lizzie fell asleep. When I was sure she was asleep, I jumped down off her bed and walked around the hallways. I smelled shots, chemicals, and doctors. I followed the scent of food and I found a whole glass container of food. I poked my nose through the glass opening and I grabbed a big piece of meat. I ate it all and looked for more food. I poked my nose deep inside and found a boul of dog food. I grabbed it and I tried to eat it, but it had an invisible barrier that smelt like plastic. I ripped it open and ate all the food. It was almost sun rise so I went back to Lizzie and I fell asleep. I didn't wake up early like I usually do because I was so tired. When I did wake up, I didn't see Lizzie. She was gone. I ran everywhere looking for her until I caught her scent. She was outside. With Dr. Ron, a man, and a woman.
Lizzie was talking on a small machine on her ear and she said, " Hello. Are you my dad? Well then why did you leave me and now you want me back. Well just for a week then I'm going back." She took the machine off of her ear and gave it to Dr. Ron. She pet me and kissed me on my forehead. "I'll be back soon." She said. She left in a car I tried to come in with her but she wouldn't let me. In frustration I cried. Dr. Ron put me on a leash and brought me back in the hospital. That night I didn't eat nor did I sleep. Dr. Ron sat next to me the whole time petting me until he fell asleep. Did my girl leave me? I wonder when and if she would come back. I walked around the hospital with Dr. Ron as he treated patients. I went in on room that had a little boy. Yelled, "doggie!" And I came to him. He stroked my fur and I jumped on his bed. "His name is Hope." Dr. Ron said. A day after, lots of doctors came in and the were scared. I followed them and I saw a girl. It was Lizzie. They said that she would be ok and she and her former dad got into a car crash. Her dad died, but Lizzie thankfully lived. They did lots of surgeries on her and later she was better. I jumped on her and she lightly stroked my fur. I licked her hand and she laughed. One week later Lizzie was back to normal. Almost every day Lizzie was rushed in and out of the hospital. When she was gone, I would visit the kids in the hospital and sneak some food from the kitchen. When Lizzie came back, she ran to me and hugged me. I wagged my tail and licked her face. She laughed and ran to Dr. Ron. He picked her up and spun around. I sensed Lizzie was happy with Dr. Ron and she wanted him as her dad. He smiled and put her down. He said, "Let's get you some food." They walked to the kitchen and got a pizza. He bent down and noticed the missing fruit cup from the fridge. He looked at me and I wagged my tail. Was I a good dog? He laughed and pet me. I jumped on him and licked his face. Lizzie put me on a leash and walked me outside. I saw lots of cars moving and squirrels climbing trees. I jumped and clawed at the tree trying to get the squirrels. They were teasing me by shaking their tails at me. Lizzie loved squirrels. She would bend down outside and feed them nuts. They don't even do anything. They hate me so I would think Lizzie would stick up for me. "You guys are so cute." She said. I barked to tell the squirrels to get down from the tree, but they didn't listen. Lozzie walked farther and she sat down on a hill. I say down next to her while she scrached my ears. We sat and stayed there for a while, looking at the people at a park. Soon after, we got up and stroled down the park. I saw little kids playing and hanging on monkey bars. Lizzie said for my to stay. I sat on the edge of the sidwalk, w aching Lizzie run around on the park and making new friends. She was talking to a boy about her age and I sat up. My fur stood up because I could sense she liked him. There was no danger so I sat back down. After and hour or so, Lizzie came back to me. I jumped on her in excitement. We walked back to the hospital and she gave me water and food. At night, Lizzie was having pain on her side and the doctors rushed to her. The doctors wouldn't let me in her room. I was worried and I could sense she was worried too. Soon enough, I couldn't sense her pain or worry anymore. Everyone was quiet. The doctors let me in and I could hear Lizzie breathing very slowly. I jumped on her bed trying not to touch her. Her eyes were closed and she had a clear makk on that was called an anastasia mask. I jumped down and whined. Did my girl leave me again? I ran out of the room to find Dr. Ron who was crying. "She's gone! She's gone..." He trailed off and saw me. I saw the tears in his eyes and he started to cry again. I grabbed his short and pulled him to Lizzie who looked better. He touched her forehead and gave her a shot. The doctors were talking but I couldn't understand them. Then, I sensed Lizzie was awake. I jumped on her and barked. The doctors rushed to her and sat her up. Lizzie said, "Water. I need water." Dr. Ron rushed to get her water and he was shaking because he was happy she was alive. "Hope!" Lizzie yelled in excitement as she saw me. She was ok. My day was complete. It was midnight when Lizzie finally fell asleep. I got off of the bed and walked around. I visited kids and licked their faces. "Puppy or Doggie." They would call me. When I was finally tored, I went back to Lizzie and went to sleep. I woke up seeing Lizzie getting her shots. She was sitting on Dr. Ron's lap and she hugged him after. Lizzie got up and brushed her teeth twice today. She put me on my leash and we walked to the park. This time, I got the chance to meet the boy she liked. He smelt like french fries and milkshakes. "Hey Hope. I'm Issac." He scratched my ears and I thumped my tail. I loved him already. They ran all around the park together for hours. It was getting dark and Lizzie was still talking to Issac. I layed down and fell asleep. I woke up a few minutes later with Lizzie next to me. "Issac had to leave with his mom." She said. We walked back to the hospital and we went to sleep. Dr. Ron came in Lizzie's room late at night and picked her up. She was still asleep. He rocked her back and fourth and I wondered why. Soon after, he put her back in her bed and walked out. My head rested on her leg and I fell asleep.
In the morning, I couldn't see Lizzie anywhere. I caught her scent, but it soon disappeared. I walked out of the hospital and cound Lizzie on a slide at the park. Then, I saw Issac next to her. I ran to them and I sat down next to them. They talked for hours non stop. Lizzie would stroke my soft fur from time to time and Issac would throw a ball that he had brought for me. I sensed that Lizzie was feeling queezy so, I barked and signaled her to go to the hospital. Lizzie got up and Issac asked, "What's wrong?" Lizzie answered, "I...." She walked by a tree and put her hand to it. Two seconds later, she passed out. Issac ran to the hospital while I licked Lizzie's face. I nuged her hand, but she wouldn't move. I saw Issac come back with a set of doctors. They strapped Lizzie in a gurney and wheeled her away. I followed, but they wouldn't let me in her room. I missed her so much. Seconds passed into minutes and minutes passed into hours. She was still in the room. I layed right in front of the door and I fell asleep. I woke up seeing Lizzie. "Good morning you little hero." She said. She looked all ready to go for a walk. We walked up a hill and I smelt a lot of lizards and other dogs. Lizzie sat down and closed her eyes. "Do you feel that?" She asked. "That is the wind." I sniffed the air as many sents filled the air. Lizzie got up and we went on a bus. I smelt lots of new smells. I smelt gas, gum, and tons of people. When we got off of the bus, we were near the woods. Lizzie walked into the woods and I followed. I saw a squirrel and I cased after it. I could hear Lizzie yellin, "Come back!" I think that meant that she wantediluvian me to run faster so I did. Soon enough, I stopped and saw the squirrel run up a tree. I barked and jumped up trying to get to it. It was no use. I turned around and I didn't see Lizzie. That was ok. I knew her scent and I caught it. I followedher scent and it led me to a near by river. No Lizzie. I went into the water and I found her scent on the other side. I sniffed and walked for hours until, I lost her scent. I heard some baring and howling and I thought it was a dog. It wasn't. There were about twelve wolves and they were hungry They chased me down to river and I hot a fee rocks while running. I trampled and fell down. The wolves were catching up with me until I saw a shadow come over me. It was Issac. I could sense he was scared and concerned. I closedan my eyes as he lifted me up. I was in so much pain but I didn't let him know. I smelt Lizzie and I could hear her crying. I woke up at the vets and people were rushing toward me. I felt a pinch and I was back to sleep. I woke up again with a big cone on my head. I felt something on my left paw and I tried to lick it, but the cone prevented me from doing so. Lizzie came in the room and hugged me. A vet said, "Keep him away from the woods for now and don't let him run to much for about a week." Lizzie nodded and said thank you and left. Doctor Ron came in and gave the vet some green paper that had a person's head on it. People called it "money." When we got to the hospital, Lozzie wouldn't let me run around. No fun. Minutes felt like hours and hours felt like days. Soon enough, I could run again (after the vets took my stitches out and my big cone got taken off too thank God ) I ran around and chased squirrles. It was very fun when Lizzie and Issac would bring me to the park and throw my favorite ball . Today, Lizzie and Issac went up a hill with me and set out a small blanket. They sat and talked for hours until they threw my ball and I zoomed passed them to get it. They kept throwing it and throwing it until it was Nguyen time. Issac's dad picked him up and Lzzie and I went home. I could barely sleep because I was so excited about tomorrow. Lizzie said that tomorrow we would go to a dog spa. In the morning, we walked a few miles down to a light blue building that said, "Spa Paws." It smelt like dogs, dog toys, wet dogs, and people. I pulled on my leash to go inside. In the entrance, a woman was sitting in a chair holding papers behind a counter. Lizzie and the woman talked and the woman gave her a piece of paper and she signed it. Soon enough, I was laying down while people brushed my fur. My tail wagged because it reminded of how Lizzie's mom would pet me.
