When Christ, the Lord still walked the earth, at one time he came through the forests and halls of westphalia with the apostle Petrus. The country was beautiful and fertile, but still entirely uninhabited and therefore deserted. Because ofthat Petrus spoke to the Lord: „Do you not want to create man to inhabit this country?“ Christ was not inclined to grant the wish of his disciple. But when he repeatedly asked to populate the country, the Lord stamped his foot onto a lump of earth lying before him and spoke: „Become a human being!“ Then the lump began to move and out of it grew a tall strong man. That one growled at the Lord with the words: „Wat stoett hei mi“* „ Why do you disturb me?“*

Since the 13th Century the middle class right punished saucery with death by fire and was pursued by the ecclesiastical and mundane jurisdiction. In 1530 under Emperor Charles the V.the Embarrassing court order appeared , the so called Carolina that pursued saucery äs criminal crimes. The French State Theoretician Jean Bochin wrote the book „De magarun danomona mia (about the diabolic things of the Wizards) and with his book he activated several waves of pursuit in the western part of Germany. After that all doors and gates were opened for the pursuit of withcraft, äs our case shows from the border of the Kurcologne Menden in the Sauerland. In the year Anno Domini 1628, in October it was already cold, äs the wagoner Peter Herrmann from the hessischen Kassel came urgently with his horses to the lower Town gate of Menden in order to arrive in the city still in time before the evening bells. At the gate the wagoner was stopped by the Town’s guard in order to search for suspicious goods and to cash in the due tax. Wagoner Herrmann had loaded goods for Caspar Scheda the landlord of the pub : 3 barreis of Brandy,2 barreis of train oil, l barrel of butter, for 400 pounds of cheese and 200 pounds of spices. Patiently the Wagoner waited until the tax was calculated up to the last Kreutzer and roschen, then at last he was allowed to pass. Arriving at the yard of the landlord, he called with loud voice for Caspar Scheda „Hey Scheda, the brandy is here, let‘s unload“.
The landlord stepped out of pub to welcome the wagoner and to unload the goods with his assistant. In order for the goods to reach the cool cellar quickly boards were put onto the cart and the barreis were rolled down . „Good that it‘s already cold“ said Scheda to Hermann, „then the goods stay fresh longer and I must not order so often . „Nevertheless I pass the Town on the return way from Dortmund again.” replied Peter Herrmann.
